Thank you. We have a family member going through end-of-life food and water minimizing--just enough to take medications.
Also had a friend with stomach cancer that could only take in little sips of water and he lived another 3 months. It's amazing how the body can adapt on its own.

I’ve been intermittently fasting for months, recently started fasting over the weekends, not eating from Thursday night all the way to Sunday night, it’s tough but it gets easier every time I do it. I am coming to a year now since I started my health journey, I lost 40kg of fat, and feel my best. God bless you Dr. Sten Ekberg.

I’m carnivore and have been fat adapted for almost a year now and I do really well at the OMAD fast, but the last couple of 3 day fasts I’ve tried have been miserable and by day 3 I’m so dizzy, weak, and sick that I have to eat. I have a keto mojo and by the morning of day three, I’m at glucose of 71 and ketones of 4.9. I drink my electrolyte fasting drops, but I still get dizzy.
Since I’ve been eating zero carbs for months and feeling great, I thought fasting long term would get easier, but it’s getting worse. People say they love the mental clarity when they long term fast but I get brain fog. I seem to be experiencing the opposite of normal. I want the benefits of a long term fast, but maybe I’m just someone who can’t do them. I still have 50 pounds left to lose, so plenty of fat left to work off, but I’ve lost almost 100 pounds so far!
I wish I could say the more I do my 3 day fasts, the easier they get, but I’m one of those that keeps getting worse. It also creates stomach issues for me when I start eating again (even though I start slowly with introducing food)

@@tb54321 it’s my third weekend in a row now, by Saturday I will be dizzy and feel like I want to faint. I found resting is essential, drinking water, tea and coffee, the later two with coconut cream really takes the edge off. I’m sorry to read it isn’t as easy for you as it may be to me, but know it’s not “easy” it’s definitely effort to keep it going. My goal essentially for me is to lose as much of my left over fat as I can, and be able to go without food for at least 3 days a week while only eating dinner for 4 days. But I also been thinking maybe eat every 48 hours that could also be powerful. About that mental clarity, I’ve had it throughout up to Xmas where I took a “break” from the diet, it was really really bad and I wish I didn’t take that break it took me a whole month finding back to it. But you’re doing the right thing, defeating the hunger and food addiction is the best thing you can do. I feel free

I have cancer and take weekly chemo treatments. I have had 13 treatments. I watched an oncologist UA-cam video and she said she recommends fasting for 48 hours before chemo treatments to her patients. The ones who do so have less side effects from the chemo. So I have fasted all but two times. Those two times I felt much worse. I was exhausted, had blurry vision, some chest pain, and back ache. I went back to fasting and feel fine after my treatment. I get a little tired but nothing like the times I didn’t fast. There is also the possibility that the chemo treatments will fight the cancer better when it’s given in a fasted state. My prognosis is good. Fasting rocks!

@@jactac838 Sorry, just saw this today. You can do a search on "high histamine food" to answer your question; it's extensive. Beef is especially high because it's all aged at the butcher before it's sold and that allows the histaDine to break down to histaMine and become a big problem for the histamine intolerant folk. But lots of spices, vegetables, and fruit have histamine, too.

I guess it won’t hurt to mention the key part: 63 is Low! 80-90 is normal. But if your blood sugar is 63 after 4 days of fasting and it is stabilized there, that would make sense. But if you are eating normally, NOT fasting, and the bloodsugar is that low? You don’t want to do anything that could drop it even lower.

My husband and I required IVF to conceive. We did 2 egg retrieval/embryo creation cycles and we got 0 healthy embryos. My third egg retrieval I only had two eggs from during stims.. my results were getting even worse! So after some research into fasting I wondered if it could help me. I've fasted for religious purposes in the past, so I knew I could comfortably fast for 7 days. So I did. My next egg retrieval we got 15 eggs, made 10 embryos, 6 became blastocyst and 3 were healthy blastocysts.

How to get to heaven? It's simple. Is not by being good or doing good, not by good deeds. Not by baptism. Not by asking forgiveness of sins. Not by following the laws. It's just by faith alone, by believing in the Gospel of Christ.
Believe and trust that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died on the cross for all your sins, then was buried, and 3 days later God the Father raised Jesus from the dead, came back to life, that's the Gospel. Believe that, and you will 100% go to heaven.
We were never good enough to go to heaven, we can never be bad enough to lose our salvation. It is a free gift by the grace of God, through our faith in Christ, that we are redeemed. Stop relying on your good works, stop thinking you are a good person, trust in Christ alone, and you will go to heaven.
That's literally how and only way for all people to get to heaven. Gospel means good news, and that's the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord, the Son of God, the Messiah, which means the chosen one.
Once you are saved by believing in the Gospel, there is literally nothing you can do on earth to lose your salvation, nothing, God will punish you on earth while you are still alive but at the end of the day, you will 100% go in heaven. Once saved, always saved. Salvation means you are going to heaven.

Dr. Ekberg, extended fasting also reverses periodontal disease as well. Over a number of years, my pockets were getting deeper and deeper, my periodontist increasing the frequency of my treatments until they were every three months, costing me boat loads of money. When I conducted my first 14-day fast, I noted my gum health was improving, they being very tight, no redness, an especially no bleeding. A few appointments ago, when my periodontist asked me how things were going since the last treatment, not wanting to bias her, I said, okay, but I would discuss the details after she and her assistant collected the numbers. As they called-out previous numbers and collected the new numbers, it was more than evident that there was a marked improvement, an improvement that left her bewildered. Afterward, she asked, "okay, what have you been doing?" Then I told her that I was extended-fasting to treat my hypertension and found that my gums were improving as well. Apparently, she had never heard of this novel approach.

I had stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma. While I admit that the immunotherapy got rid of the cancer, I probably lasted the 8 months before I started getting the treatment because of fasting. It wasn't voluntary fasting. I felt so much pain when I ate because it was effecting my pancreas. Basically, I was taking 45 milligrams of morphine just to eat and the constipation was so bad, I sometimes didn't eat. Fat was the worse. Needless to say, I had no visible body fat by the time I was getting treatment. Anyway, I believe fasting helps keep cancer away.

@drekberg , could you please create an in-depth video about breaking a prolonged fast? I believe it merits as much attention as the fasting period itself, due to the potential benefits of protein and fat intake when levels of HGH and other hormones are elevated towards the end of the fast. This contrasts with the intake of high glucose/fructose, which can result in a significant insulin spike and drastic changes in electrolyte balance, potentially leading to issues with the kidneys and heart.

My biggest takeaway is that all my unhealthy food/carb cravings vanished on the morning of the 3rd day, and my entire craving structure changed. I no longer veiw sugar and carbs as primary food and my energy levels skyrocketed to heights I didn't believe were possible. I feel great, and everything I eat tastes better, and I sleep better.

It has yielded surprising results for me-I've gone from 220 to 167 pounds. I've also been weightlifting, which has helped me burn fat while gaining muscle mass. Those who claim you cannot make gains while following the OMAD diet are mistaken. While you may not gain as much muscle as with bulking, I prefer to build lean muscle mass and maintain a lean body rather than becoming bulky.

I then learned how bad they are for some people’s muscles. I decided to modify my diet and am finding these videos so illuminating and inspiring. Thank you so much💖

I’m 62 and I just finished a 48 hour fast. I could have easily gone another 24 hours as my hunger pains had vanished halfway through. We had relatives coming to visit and that’s the only reason I didn’t extend it. I love the benefits of fasting, although I do feel weird for a day or so after I resume eating. I do this about once a month, but I practice 24 hour fasting (one meal a day) most of the time. I love the way it helps me maintain my weight.

I'm literally just about to make it 100 hours. 4AM CDST tomorrow morning, I'll hit 100 hours and will get up, eat eggs, and meat. Later in the day, some cheese. I started both at 12:15AM on May 1st, I started my fast and at 8:30, I started walking again. I feel sure I actually made a couple of weeks straight of this back around 1989, but that's so long ago, that I can't recall. It's a whole lot harder when you don't have a handy distraction. I can't tell that I've lost any weight or fat, but as far as walking goes, I'm not even quitting.

Going for 100 hours right now, longest i've ever gone is 69.5 hours. Day 1.5-2.5 is the hardest but once you make it to day 3 its quite easy, been doing if for around 1.5 years now and done multiple 24, 36 and around 5 or so 48 hours in that year or so time frame. I never get hungry anymore and usually on a fast only feel my stomach begin to grumble around 28-32 hours in, so my body is definitely mastering utilizing ketones as an energy source. I have under 50 grams of carbs each day too, i eat purely carnivore, with fruit 1-2 times a week for added nutrients and minerals etc, and to introduce carbs into my body as a re-feed. I'm lean af and healthy af, around 9-11% bf, 179 cm tall and 73 kg.
Doing this longer fast i hope to have a total clean-out of my system, and the stem cell growth too which is crazy.

Here is a summary of the key points from the video:
    - Fasting for 100 hours can have many health benefits like weight loss, reduced inflammation, improved mental clarity, lowered insulin resistance, and possibly reversed type 2 diabetes.
    - When fasting, the body primarily burns glycogen stores for the first 24 hours. This releases water stored with glycogen, resulting in initial weight loss. It then transitions to burning more fat.
    - Fasting lowers insulin levels, helping the body become more insulin sensitive. This promotes fat burning over storage and reduces hunger.
    - Fasting activates autophagy, the process of cellular cleaning and rejuvenation. It also increases growth hormone and BDNF levels, both beneficial for tissue repair and brain function.
    - Fasting may reduce inflammation by lowering pro-inflammatory immune cells and free radicals. It can improve gut and microbiome health as well.
    - Electrolytes like sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium should be supplemented during extended fasts to prevent symptoms from their loss.
    - LDL and total cholesterol levels may rise with fasting initially but LDL particle counts fall, reducing heart disease risk.
    - Most people will not lose muscle during shorter fasts due to growth hormone elevation. Bone and organ reserves also allow fasting without nutrient deficiency.
In summary, intermittent or extended fasting can provide various health benefits by inducing metabolic changes like autophagy and ketosis. Electrolyte supplementation is recommended for fasts over 24 hours.

Just one thing to clearfy ldl levels irrelevant or relative in atherosclerosis. The real issue is oxidised ldl and it has lower volume than normal ldl,you need to look for ldl size distrubution to see that tho which no one really looks for although when when oxidation of ldl is high ldl cant clear trigliserids body produce more ldl to clear trigliserids only to get more dysfunctioned ldl that accumulates and do nothing increasing dysfunction even further so if you have high ldl and low trigliserids it just means you just eat a lot of fat thats it.. Trigliserit numbers is a clear indication of both oxidised ldl and atherosclerosis along with hba1c levels.

Hi Dr. Ekberg! I'm wondering if you can do a video about what happens to body when you donate blood during fasting? (If there are benefits or disadvantages of it?) I've been doing OMAD (5x a week for more than a year (not strict), but I'm used to it. The other day, I came to pass by a blood donation drive, when I was about 23 hours in fasting, and did weights workout in lunchtime. I did it without feeling lightheaded or anything. I'm just wondering though if there is an effect to the body when doing it while fasting. Love all your videos!
PS: Also, does it bring benefits to the donee, like the autophagy? I'm curious.

    • @drekberg
      @drekberg  11 місяців тому +5

Thank you @jdp5974. Interesting question. I'm just shooting from the hip here. I think a healthy body can adapt to a whole lot more than we think. I don't think it's a big deal to donate blood whether you are fasting or not. You do give away some resources though, which is why they don't let you do it very often. It's possible that by giving away some blood protein, you increase the autophagy effect. I don't see how the donee would receive any additional benefit, since the benefits are due to limited resources in the person who is not eating. It is an adaptation response. Even if there are some compounds in the blood to be transferred, I don't think there is enough of them to create significant benefit. 😄
