- Welcome to VLOG 5! This is an interesting video i've been meaning to make for a little while now. Ever since getting my Pro V2 and really putting it through it's paces i wanted to better explain what i think in regards to buying and upgrading or spending the money and just getting a pricey printer. I'll take you through some price points and why one might be better than the other!
Below is a link to nearly everything i've discussed!

Guys can we just take a moment to appreciate how helpful and smart Frank is? I mean he is so knowledgeable and his vids are my go to if I have an issue or a question I need answered 9 times out of 10 Frank has a video on it. Thank you Frank 🙏🏼
Its nice how you were able to talk in your print room and your machines werent even noticable. Gotta love silent boards.
Yep! Also though the boom mic was like. IN my mouth the whole time lol 😂
Finally, an honest review from someone who actually knows what they're talking about from personal experience. Awesome video man. Made my decision to get the CR10S Pro. Cheers!
Oh hell yeah!
I agree with what you said about upgrading your printer. I knew nothing about 3d printing. I purchased an Ender3. Just a plain Jane ender3 not a v2 or anything along those lines. I put direct drive ,silent board, dual z axis, microswiss hotend, hardened steel nozzle and I've recently added a rasberry pi and did a full linear rail upgrade and doing all of those upgrades myself and doing the research to complete those upgrades have taught me so much about 3d printing. I'd go with the upgrade version every time lol. I'm now refurbishing an old anycubic kossel linear plus. This is going to challenge every bit of my knowledge to do this but if I hadn't learned so much from doing the other upgrades I'd still be where I started. Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work!!
I just got my first printer as a hand-me-down from a friend who upgrade. So now I have a CR-10S. I updated the official firmware to current and did the Capricorn upgrade when the original Bowden tube kept clogging up (the end was in rough shape). I don't have anything to compare it to but I'm really happy with the prints and really enjoying learning how to be good at it.
The silent board upgrade.... When my CR10 did its first print, my wife kept going around the house at 10pm at night looking out all the windows, upstairs, downstairs, north, south, east, and west.
She kept complaining to me that some terrible neighbour is leaving their dog outside and the poor thing keeps crying trying to come back inside (it was January and cold.)
She asked me "don't you hear that poor dog? I can't find it though, I looked everywhere I can't find him but he keeps crying."
I told her "I don't hear anything, I don't hear any dog crying or howling."
She then told me to listen "see... There it is, it's crying, it just cried."
I then laughed and realized it was the printer in the basement. I told her "go look in the basement, the poor dog is stuck in our basement." 😂
Best 3D printing channel on UA-cam. My son who is 15 got a printer when he was 11 ;we had many tears and failures and didn’t know how to get him a complete print . Out of Frustration it sat on the shelf for 3 years. However since discovering. Frankly Built and following his excellent advice my son is now getting brilliant successful prints and has grown in his confidence around 3D printing . So thank you 😊Ps he has the CR10 s .Great review we will keep this in mind when looking for his next printer .
Frank, you have inspired me to jump into 3D printing for cosplay. I bought a CR-10 for my first printer. You are a great content creator, and it doesn't hurt that you're a fellow airman 😎. Keep up the great work!
Legit, amazing review. People need to watch this. I’ve had an ender 3v2 for 2 months that I’ve fallen in love with and I’ve been wanting a bigger build surface. I found the cr10s pro v2 for 438 shipped from Banggood and jumped on it. Keep up the great work!
Been going down a rabbit hole of 3d printing with your videos. I'm very interested in getting my own and starting a new hobby. Not expecting pro results to begin with but with your videos and tips, I think I can get there. Awesome videos man please keep it up.
Thanks a million! You've answered almost all questions that I had about my CR10!
Man! This is a great video. Full of great advice. I liked the stickers!
Wish this video came out sooner! I've had issues with my stock bowden tube in the past, and just upgraded it a few days ago. I think I'm going to look into those metal extruders too. I'm running a standard CR-10, so there's lots of upgrades to consider. Great video!
Fantastic video. You are soo right! I learned so much from wrestling with an old monoprice maker select v2, modding it with every possible upgrade. It really gave me a firm foundation.
On the binge watch grind! Got a printer in December and Frankly, (get it) these videos help me so much.
Man, gotta say best and most helpful 3D printing channel with FDM printers. Great job!
Hey thanks so much!
Hell yeah Brother! Great info! Especially, keeping your printer tight and calibrated.
Thank you for this informative video!! Thanks from Puerto Rico!! :)
Brand new to 3D printing as of last week. Got the 5 plus for printing large items. Can confirm that it will take some time to get it right, but now that I’ve got it dialed in, it works like a dream. Can also confirm that the stock tube and extruder are not the best. Had the white tube fail after about 20 hours of printing, (melted/backed out and clogged the nozzle). No issues since making those two upgrades. Great video.
Great video, helped me make my mind up on a printer finally, got a CR-10s on its way, along with a metal extruder, capricorn tube & carborundum glass plate :D can't wait to get started!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was so confused when looking at all the models and they to figure it out and then I came to the Ender 3 Pro and liked it but was worried the bed was going to be to too small for bigger projects like Iron Man Armors.
I got a CR10s because of your review it was a great investment for me. Thank you
would be an awesome concept of videos for your new channel Frank!
Great video as always
Answered the exact question I was going to ask on the Discord. Thanks Frank!
Thanks for the great video. Very educational and has helped me make my purchase decision
This is super helpful. I had an Anycubic i3 Mega, and upgraded to the cr10s Pro v2, and have had so many problems. I think I may be dialing it in, but still wrestling through.
Great video. I’ve got into 3D printing in the last year through work as I need to create machine tooling and have been using a pair of Ender 3 Pros (did extruder, Capricorn and spring upgrades on both which made a big difference). Have been really wanting to get one for myself to get into as a hobby and start making some cosplay too. Was torn between a Cr10 pro v2 or an Ender 5 Plus - have gone for the 5 Plus in the end and just waiting for it to arrive! Find your videos really helpful. Thanks!
13:11 "I was sleeping on this bed"
I don't think that's what they're used for...
I don't even have a 3d printer but I'm watching the whole video. I love the content, man, this is so interesting. Who knows, maybe this will become a hobby for me in the future 😁.
My first printer was the Prusa Mini and I can’t stop printing things. It’s been non stop. I’m looking at getting one of these printers next. It’s fun even if it’s just a hobby.
2:06-2:26 straight fire loved the wording I hope to be in that realm soon.... Also that just made me a subscriber.
Your video was very helpful in my purchase after watching, thanks.
I learn something new every time! I think it's worth noting that the cr10 v2 (not the pro or s) is 452$ US and comes with all the upgrades minus the Bowden tube and bl touch. Not sure about the bed springs though. Loved the vid frank, keep it up!
Just watching this now after my own printer, I definitely agree with being against glass beds. I've had to learn to deal with it but I'll take your advice and do a bed upgrade
Awesome video. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Great info brother. I bought a ender 3 pro did some upgrades like you mentioned and taught me how too work on these printers. I'm more hands on when it comes to fixing things then trying too understand the firmware and coding part of 3d printing sometimes even the slicer software trips me up. Haha. Keep making great videos. And thank you for your service. 👍👍
Great vid, great passion, would be nice to see your thoughts on layer heights, speeds and temps! Thanks for the vid🤘
I'm new to the hobby thanks for the information you have given 😀!!!
Excellent insight... I own 2 CR10Ss and 2 Ender 3s, and I agree with everything you shared. You earned a Like and Sub!!!
I never thought I'd subscribe to a channel like this, but this review and the effort you put into helping the community made me feel compelled to sub.. I'll be sharing this page with my friends and family.
Thank you so much! I’m glad my videos could help!
@@FranklyBuilt so. I can get a cr10s v3 400mm with a micro swiss upgrade for about $375 used. Should I chose that over a pro V2? I need to print at least 300mmx300mm for some prints.
Great information, I agree the Ender 3 origiinal is an amazing printer, everyone who asks me I always recommend it versus any other printer.
Thank you so much for this video bro help me a lot! God bless you!
Good info, man. I just ordered an Ender 3. My first 3D printer. I'm nervous, but according to you, it's all a matter of getting it set up and dialed in. I hope to print small stuff and maybe a couple of helmets. But thanks for your help.
Nice video, I thought it was very informative to hear about several different printers.
brooo, thanks you so much!! you are awesome.
thanks you for sharing all your knowlege.
Thanks so much Frank! Its so funny how we talked all about this a cople days ago lol
Great info thank you for laying all that out.
TY I been doing 3d printing for about 3 months I started with a ender 3d pro and yes to start off with a printer that has all the bells and whistles im glad i was like whats going on totally glad to upgrade and become one with a printer its a art form but TOTALLY worth it
I just bought the V3 and I do like the quietness of it. The only thing that makes noise if the fan and the retraction feature. The direct extrusion is nice as well
me too those dam fans are Noisy
Good video with good points. I actually managed to snag a cr-10s pro v2 for $420, and I'm very happy with it so far.
What would you recommend, cr 10-s or ender 5 plus
Ender-5 plus
Agree with everything you said, especially about the glass bed, I struggled for months with the bed on my cr10s until I realised it was warped and bought an IKEA glass mirror tile, it works almost perfectly but i think I'm going to replace it with the ultrabase that came with my (now dead) anycubic printer
For years I thought the glass is the problem. I bought a mirror. Didnt help. Bought an Anycubic Ultrabse, didnt work. Then I got the tip from a friend that the bed is the problem and that a tape in the middle helped. And that was it. The aluminium bed was the problem.
i just added BL touch, Micro Swiss Hot End and Direct Drive to my 3 year old 10s ProV1 and it is a new machine. I also had put on 10S Max Z axis Struts and Synched Z axis Belt and Pullys. Updated Firmware makes the machine a Tank and reliable, Great sturdy and solid build. Prints smooth and precise. All it needs now is Flex Bed for part removable. Total Investment $500 today. My 10s Pro V1 was a refurbished unit. Dennis
I work for a scaffold company designing scaffold on AutoCAD for 10 years now. I have jumped into the world of Fusion 360 to learn the programme before buying a printer. So after watching this video and a few others, it seems the Creality 3D CR-10S PRO V2.0 is the one to buy! Wish me luck!
man I was torn between these two and thought I wrote the ender 5 off talking to people on your discord then bam you hit me with thats the best of the 3 with minor upgrades.
Thanks for the video, I pulled the trigger on a CR-10s Pro V2. I was almost swayed to go with and Ender 5 Plus. But after 5 years of fighting a Maker Select V2 for every print that came out of it. I wanted something a bit more plug and play. I'm going to try and pick up a used Ender 5 at some point though..
Thanks as always Frank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Waiting on my Cr10 s v2 to arrive 😱😍
I paid $302 for my CR-10s Pro V2 in August 2021. Best deal I've seen for this printer. Bought it from NewEgg. And I agree 100%. The CR-10s Pro V2 is an awesome printer. It was a great upgrade from my Anet A8 and Ender 3. My favorite upgrade I did to it was to stop using the stock heavy aluminum print surface and replace it with FR4 epoxy board.
thats a freaking steal. i ever see that deal i am buying 2 more of them.
Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with us - that is very generous of you. If you don't mind my asking, how would you characterize the difference between the Ender 3 V2 vs the CR-10S?
Thank you
I picked a sunlu S8...basically a decent cr10 clone for 159 bucks, and an anycubic i3 mega S for about the same. All in with the upgrades ive done im still cheaper then the regular cr10 s for both printers. BUT the sunlu does require upgrades to be a good machine its just a very solid base. And the anycubic is a great out of the box machine.
Great video! Always fun to see a fellow service member doing something fun. Did you end up not liking the all-in-one conversion? I don't feel like it's in your newer vids. I'm new to this hobby and got a CR-10 V3 a lil while back and I hate the massive control box, cabling that goes with it, etc.
Thanks for the great video as always, The question I'm asking myself is ender 5 plus or cr 10s ?
Cause price wise the ender 5 plus is cheaper and has a bigger build
Since I see you have both, can we have a comparison on those 2 machines?
Excellent video, thanks a million!!
Which one do you use to print armors?
Ok man it’s time for a how to on the stand-alone on the CR10S
great video. fixed the BL touch on the ender... silent board upgrade fixed it lol
I like your perspective and I’m hoping to get things set up so that I don’t have to worry about settings anymore. Right now I can’t even print PETG cause of the nuances associated with the material(second month maker) Love your lab and your work is awesome.
Day 2 of thanking Frank for his service
Great content
I agree I have an end at three because I didn’t know about the pro version or version two and I think my end at three and I’m morning about it I am upgrading the extruder gear to dual extruder gear and PVS tubing the blue tubing because my stock tubing for the filament clogged up in the tube so in the future I might get a C10s Version and angel my food panda in the 3-D printing community but thanks for letting me know about the upgrades I can do to make to my ender 3
Could you do a tutorial video on the cr-10 standalone kit? Or is it simple enough to put together?
Thank you again! I am learning so much from your videos. My CR10 V3 shows up tomorrow and I am pumped! 2 quick questions: 1) When you say don’t use any adhesion to the ultra base bed, just clean it with alcohol(wipe it down), heat it up and go does this mean after every print or every so often? 2) Since my V3 is direct drive and there is not a long Bowden tube, should I replace the very small section of factory tubing inside the hot end(I hope I am using the correct term) after the direct drive unit with the Capricorn tubing?
Thank you again for your help!
I needed this video.
I picked up an Ender3 v1 3 years ago. upgraded the bed, board, tube, hotend and so on. but now i want a bigger printer. been debating between the Ender5, Cr 10s, Cr 10 v2 and the Cr10mini. i enjoy doing the upgrades myself.
V2
My ender 3 taught me so many problems that made working with my cr-10 easier I've been printing two years the cr-10 to me was a great investment for what I do
Is the cr-10 better than the ender 3 and ender 5 ? I want accurate printing, bigger printing volume than the ender 3, maybe resin printing
Resin is next level accurate but the 10s is bigger than the 3 and 5
@@FranklyBuilt can you resin print on the enders ?
I upgraded my cr10s too Ender 5 v2.2.1 silent board mute, and Hot end Silent Fan and direct drive and new Extruder its a very big Difference on the noises its totally silents and Creality glass plate now all I need is Creality Touch
Good job
i started off with an ender 5 pro. so i learned my bed leveling with that ol thing. tho i did upgrade to a cr-touch after 4 months. now i also have a E5 plus. they are a couple of pain in my ass machines. but i do love em
i turned my ender 5 plus to what you could call an ender 5 plus pro. added a flexi filament extruder, from macewan3d, silent board, noctua silent fans, p3d hercules .6 noz, cap tubing , leds, a camera and the last thing is being shipped wich is a flex build plate. after that I am done. the machine is silent, sturdy and reliable. I have my setting in cura dialed in to my preffered filament (hatchbox)and she prints like a dream, failed prints are rare.
The arc reactor intro gave me chills
What about the CR10 V3? It looks like it's got all the nice things too: double Z axis, direct drive extruder (which I think is a plus) and while it doesn't have the BL Touch, it can be upgraded (as a drop in upgrade).
great video, to the point. I'm struggling to find a tutorial on converting a standard cr10 to an all in one, any useful links? Thanks
Hi got here from tictok you inspire me bro
Great video! I agree with 90% of it. I bought an Ender 3 Pro last July knowing that it could do nice prints out of the box. There was also a great userbase and established upgrade path. Hasn't let me down so far. Today I'd buy a v2 and save printing all the common upgrades. I loved my glass print bed until I got a spring steel PEI sheet. There's nothing better for PLA.
Another argument for upgrading is initial cost. 3d printers are modular by design. If you like and use it then you can always upgrade it and make it better. Biggest factor on which machine to buy is what print size you need.
I agree with the capricorn tube, however you MUST change the couplers too, because the stock ones are very low quality...And dont be cheap on filament, because capricorn tube as less toleranses than the stock one, so if you encounter a filament with no consistency on diameter capricorn+cheap filament will give trouble.
Hey Frank love your videos. Very informative. Much respect. I realize this video is a year old but have a question. I have a CR10 V2. My biggest complaint is not having a touch screen. First world problems I know. Do you have an opinion on the Creality 3D PAD? Do you know if it would be compatible? Thanks for any feedback.
Frankly Built.. great video, thank you for your knowledge. I just ordered a new CR10S!! I am very interested in that cool all in one base you have it sitting on. Any links or info for that? Cheers
Just got a Cr-10s pro v2 for $500 to my door on Prime day 😀. It's been a fun week so far!
It was such a good deal!
Quite cool covering the prices, quality, upgrades ! A real comparison.
But small question, at the same price (280€) CR-10 V2 vs CR-10s pro, which one would you pick ? The pro i guess ? I just wonder if it's as reliable, if it has problems/lacks features
Thanks for all advices! In other news - how much time it takes to print such a helmet?
Don't forget to share the details on the standalone mod! I want the details on that for sure.
Love your video. Very informative. Yet i'm still struggling on which one to get. Now it seems to be between the ender 5 plus and the cr10s pro v2
Same...
@@caseymcdonald5171 I went with the cr10s pro v2 and love it. It already has all the upgrades he speaks of in this video
I just found your channel. So far I'm loving it! I am a 3D printing virgin though have experience with CAD/CAM and 3D modeling. Why I just started looking into 3D printing at 30? No clue. My issue is my maker space has horrible heat control (old house). I'm afraid to throw it in an enclosure due to the electronics being in the base. Could I rip all that crap out and make one anyway? Yes. Do I want to? Not sure honestly. I'm a bit torn. Could I buy all the needed upgrades for a regular cr10s? Yes. However small things like the single y axis rail concern me. Opinions?
I passed on the BL touch. (Seemed fragile to me.) Instead, I did a direct swap of the "crapacitve" stock sensor with an $8 INDUCTIVE sensor from Amazon. That upgrade, along with PEI coated magnetic spring metal printing surface, has made printing with my CR10s Pro an absolute joy.
That’s great!
Wish I had watched this before I ordered a CR-10. I guess ill have to do the upgrades. Is there anything else thats major other than what you talked about in this video?
Hey Frank been looking at this very closely, Is the CR-10s better than the CR-10 V3? I cannot find a regular CR-10s on amazon in canada. Thanks for the great videos and help!
4:32
hey frank, like the Dum-E hat on the right
After this video im sold on getting the CR-10S.. but what about the V2, is that worth the extra few quid or is it more problems then rewards?
Hey Frank. I know this is an old video.. But i'm interested in the standalone kit you did for your V2. I followed the link in the description and I'm sure i could get it all together... But would be nice to take a look at it before putting it together. Any chance you'd do a video showing that mod?
Great video Frank, I'd highly recommend to anyone Frank's discord channel everyone helps each other great resource.
Thanks for the wealth of information!! I do have one question though, what's the lcd upgrade on the CR-10S?
I don’t have an lcd upgrade haha
FYI regular glass beds you get from like lowes, work amazing. i don't know what peoples problem are with them. I have never had an issue whatsoever.
When you buy used CR10s for like $200 its definitely worth upgrading
