- Who could have predicted this?? A full length film about the apps in your phone and the emojis as characters with cringy dialogue and dumbed down cliches is destined to FAIL?? While we usually cover yellow characters coming back with a sequel in the works for the next couple years, today we're flipping to the reverse as we divulge into the collection of yellow Emojis who I can certainly tell you will NOT be coming back in 2020 or 2021... Come and re-experience one of the worst films of 2017, if not, the entire decade.

Others with Autism might not get it so good. But even then, I'm not without problems. I'm still different from most people. My creative and logical thinking is likely one of the good results I got from being high functioning, but be careful not to overlook all the other details.

I feel so bad for the Animators who had to animate this. It’s just sad they wasted their talent on this garbage movie and Animation is definitely not easy to do. I’m in school to be a animator, and literally for maybe 10 seconds of animation would take WEEKS so finish.

I think the movie would be better if it had no noise
My biggest problem with the movie is the logic of Textopolis itself. You’d think the writers of this would be smart enough to realize that EACH INDIVIDUAL PHONE having their own separate Textopolis, is actually a horrifying thought. Do they know how many people change, crash, destroy, and wipe their phones clean often? So just picture how many Emojis have been horrifically wiped out from existence, each time someone just up and reset or got a new phone.
They could’ve made Textopolis a singular world connected to all phones (like Wreck-It-Ralph’s video game world), but instead we have mass genocide almost on a daily.
Also, the most popular Emojis having to step into a big frame doesn’t make sense either. The big machine being for the most popular emojis is clever, but lacks logic too. Do they forget other emojis exist? What happens if the person decided to use one they never use, and doesn’t exist on the wall? Wouldn't it mean that emojis would just vanish randomly like a State Farm employee?
Edit: I don’t have an issue with them using Emojis for a movie. If they could make an entire movie out of Legos, a product that doesn’t come with a plot or even a narrative, then I’m open minded to the Emoji idea too, but the problem with said Emoji movie is how generic and formulaic the story is at best, and boring, predictable torture at worst for those who have already seen it before.
The only scene that got a slight chuckle out of me, was when Smiler approached one of the other emojis and said “I’m so ANGRY right now, ahahaha!” I feel dirty admitting it, but the way she emoted her frustration through sheer gritted, joyous chuckling got me.
Edit 2: So I rewatched this, and forgot that he mentions that the director of this movie wanted to send a message about it being ok to be “different and unique,” being a gay man himself. Uhhh…ok yeah, that’s nice, but there’s a difference between subtlety and shoehorning that message in the most painful way.
One of ParaNorman’s director is openly gay, and that movie managed to deliver the “different and unique” narrative properly; from the bullying, outcast, and outright disdain for what he is, instead of just condescending. Hell even Mitch turning out to be gay was a twist, but the subtle hints throughout the movie now make more sense. The Emoji Movie thinks its audience are idiots, and didn’t think they’d be able to think properly because apparently the message would’ve been too subtle, so they decided to drive the message of “it’s ok to be different” to a point of almost just writing it on the screen itself.
ParaNorman is what happens when you’re a good and smart writer. The Emoji Mohie is what happens when you have condescending writers, who think kids and adults are too simpleminded for understand anything.
AND PLUS, the emojis could have just walked around the entire phone without any consequences whatsoever

Small opinion on Jail Break. As someone who considers them self pretty "girly," sometimes I get a little scared that people will take it very stereotypical, which doesn't do so well in my school. I think she was wearing the wig and beanie as a way to hide it all, because she doesn't want to be seen as just a princess. Because of my personality I am a target for bullies. Maybe that is how jail break thinks as well.

@@zeeyadb77 Forst of all, the character designs weren't... That nice to look at. The animation was okay I guess, pretty smooth, but the plot was really dumb. Also, using emojis for a plot like this is also not the best idea. Accepting yourself for who you are as a message is also wayyy too overused, the characters aren't likeable at all and it was just plain boring
the director saying the meh's are a gay allegory somehow manages to be a bit insulting to both gay and straight people.
it basically says straight people are bland and emotionless, while also playing right into the stereotype that gay people have to be flamboyant and outrageous.
19:49 I could see a story where a character acts subversive of societal roles simply to follow peer pressure or popular trends (like the "strong hyper-aggressive woman" trope), only later on realizing that it was not what they really think/feel, and end up rejecting the rebellious act to find their true self somewhere in between. The message could emphasize the importance of compromise between apparent opposites, or learning from history and tradition, or simply "don't rejecting one stereotype just to fall into another"... all of which are things the modern world could use reminders of.
But that would require actual thought and good writing, which were nonexistent in this movie.
I love that they so oblivious that Jacksfilms was being sarcastic with his 'love' of the movie. That they sent him a box of merch and a ticket(s) for the premier. XD

Jail Break going back to her femme look could be seen as her saying femme doesn’t mean weak, less intelligent, etc, cause a lot of women who go through the Tom boy phase(sometimes not a phase) do tend to look down at femme women so it’s like she’s embracing her femme side, like you can still be femme and not fit into gender roles but it’s the emoji movie so I doubt it’s that deep.
I agree with your assessment of that plot point, but also think that it was likely unintentional. Because I feel like a lot of times people "express their individuality" they take it too far and end up just trying to stand out from everyone else more than they're expressing what they actually feel. And that's kind of what I feel like Jail Break was doing with the way she was dressed. Because a lot of people, including a lot of women, see being strong, being yourself, and being feminine, as things that just don't go together, which is completely false in my opinion.

if i'm being totally honest, I liked the movie when I first watched it and now I just watch it every once in a while cus that time period in my life was really nice (i was in a great school with chill friends in a country I liked). It's not liking the movie at this point, it's nostalgia and longing.

That's because they had Lord & Miller really talented and passionate filmakers and Sony genuinely didn't give a shit about it Venom was the movie Arad cared about so didn't poke his nose into Spider-Verse and Lord & Miller could make the movie they wanted to again when Sony Pictures genuinely involve themselves you get Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man movies and Venom that's also why the MCU Spidey films are good because Sony have no creative control
The main character is literally supposed to be emotionless. Well played, Sony. That is by far the best way to make a complex character.

I'd argue that Jailbreak abandoning her hat and wig is about learning to appreciate and accept whatever you are, whoever you are, rather than being "not like other girls" (which is what she reeks of) and trying to be something you incorrectly believe to be "cool"...
... but that gives the movie way too much credit that it very much does not deserve.
But she can accept herself for who she really his and still keep her hat and wig.
