I think what makes Bing Bong's sacrifice all the more depressing is that Riely forgets about him, and we all know we have to say good-bye to our imaginary friends someday.
I really loved the Iron Giant. It teaches a very good lesson. The movie was made after Brad Bird’s sister, Susan Bird, died. She was killed by her husband with a gun. “It’s bad to kill. Guns kill. And you don’t have to be a gun. You are what you choose to be.” -Hogarth Too bad people don’t even listen.
For the Iron Giant, I always thought it was his programming that made him react that way, like how he reacted to the dead deer, he sees something dead, something needs to be killed, his sacrifice was him acting against his programming and his purpose. like how Brad Bird said "what if a gun did not want to be a gun"
It's not ONLY the giant's fault, Kent mensley too! He is the one who told the soldiers to send a missile on the giant. This man doomed the entire town 😨
I personally would have ranked the Iron Giants sacrifice at at least number 5 because I really enjoyed that movie and the reason he fought back was because the military kept shooting him for no reason
Gurgi's sacrifice in The Black Cauldron was very emotional and redeemed his character. Though I personally think it would've been stronger had it been Taran who made the sacrifice. Obviously, characters in Disney movies often get revived but it doesn't take away from the emotion IMO. Future video idea: Ranking Some Of Will Vinton Claymation specials [Claymation Christmas, Meet The Raisins, Raisins Sold Out, Dinosaur, The Little Prince 1979, The Creation, Mountain Music, Rip Van Winkle, Claymation Comedy Of Horrors, and Claymation Easter]. IMO, most of these are good, but Comedy Of Horrors and Claymation Easter aren't very good due to the main protagonist Willshire Pig being an unlikeable greedy jerk.
Putting frigging Baymax's "death" over the giant? I feel like you're baiting us... and you know what I'll be one to bite The sacrifice for the town wasn't entirely his fault. Yeah he "shouldn't have" attacked the military, but 1. He was expressedly built to do just that the whole reason he never begins his annihilation of earth is because he gets amnesia and can't remember why he's here or what to do. 2. the situation only escalates to nuclear levels because agent Mansley continued to make the situation worse and worse. By the end, the giant had finally stopped his rampage and gone back to his senses and the army had stopped firing and were about to abort the nuclear strike when Mansley ordered the strike, needlessly sacrificing the lives of everyone in the town. 3. The giant wrestles with the concept of life, meaning, death, and the concept his own soul and existence and the incredible power he has for destruction and protection. so this is his moment of realizing that he can save everyone even if it means he has to die to do it. Brad bird boiled down the movie as "what if a gun decided it didn't want to kill people?" So this is moment where it pays off. The giant refuses to kill anymore people and instead save everyone.
I was thinking about that for the future I've only seen Death Note but maybe I could make a poll for everyone to vote on it. Would you have any suggestions for sacrifices?
Anna is higher on the list than the Iron Giant? Oh, come on. The Giant started attacking people because he was driven by instinct, he couldn't control himself. But Anna, instead of kicking Hans in the back, put herself in front of his sword so that he could apparently k!ll both rulers of the kingdom with one blow and become king.
