And the most reliable.

@Percy Holtzclaw Were you defending the movie or what?
It all makes sense now, and as a fan of all music genres except for trap music (depending on how it was handled, like Kenan Thompson Troll’s song in the movie being shameless pandering to kids), teen pop (when their production is boring, their lyrics are one-dimensionally tweeny or both like some of Shawn Mendes’ music like Sweatshirt by one of the most untalented and death-disrespecting people when he was relevant in the late 2010s, and around the same time, Treat You Better which is about him demanding a young woman to break up with her boyfriend not as a friend, but am just so he can treat her the same way with his Bice Guy Syndrome, and when it comes to his racist comment about black people in the last decade, it shows!!!!), I trust both sayings! XD
I'm an introvert who likes rock n roll. What should i do, seriously...
Correct me if I'm wrong here but wasn't the whole point in the movie that denying the differences in the music cultures is denying who they are as a person and that Poppy needed to understand that you can embrace your differences without changing them and that her way was not the only right way to go about things. I could have swore that at the end the movie she even said she was wrong and differences do matter. Not really trying to defend a kids movie just trying to make sure I understood the plot.
In fact, as for DreamWorks Animation in general, how the mighty has fallen.
A lot of people give Branch crap for “singing killed my grandma”. The thing is, he’s traumatized. His singing got him exposed to a Bergen, and his grandma made a self-sacrifice to save Branch at the cost of her own life. Now, whenever Branch hears singing, he’s reminded of his grandma’s death, and he doesn’t want to feel that pain. Why they didn’t do more with this, I don’t know. But I love how just when everyone thinks the situation is hopeless, Branch is the first to step up. The main thing I wish they’d done is give a lot more importance and relevance to said trauma, which would make the already-good moment of Branch singing again even better.
That’s just my take, feel free to agree or disagree.
I absolutely agree
The idea was fine, the execution was just bad. And it really didn't help that the rest of the trolls were singing at the end of the flashback.
@@SkillEsau yeah that actually makes a lot of sense why i burst into laughter the first time i heard that

Say it with me folks: Being introverted is not a flaw that needs to be “fixed”. Some people would rather be by themselves and it’s rude to assume they’re just depressed and need to be changed.
Even if they are depressed, it's not something that can just 'be changed'. Forcing someone who is upset or depressed to be social can make them feel worse. And especially so if it's something you want, and not what they want. When trying to comfort a depressed person, different things work in different scenarios. But never force them into it.
I’m an introvert, I also have autism and bad anxiety, I’m not that type of person who always wants to be around people,
Me even being in room with only 10 people will start to give me an anxiety attack, and I’ll just start crying, it’s horrible,
And when people force me into something I don’t like, or try to force me to be really happy, I just feel angry and even worse than before, all people should know that just because you may be the type of person who like being around people, and is always loud and happy, doesn’t mean that everyone else has to be like that, and being an introvert is not a bad thing,
@@Julia_Mwa My grandma's sister said (idk what she would be to me, another aunt?) said there's something wrong with me when I went to meet her with my family for the first time ever(I didn't know she existed until this summer) in the Virgin Islands while we were in the car with everybody. Just because I didn't laugh and carry on. My god it's like extroverts want us to strangle them. Being Introverted and having low self esteem that hit me hard. How are you gonna tell your niece there's something wrong with their child, I felt insulted for my mother and myself at the same time. I feel Branch in this movie cause people singing around you 24/7 is annoying asf. Like do your thing but please stfu once in a while. Being around a lot of singers in Middle School, I think you can guess how that went in my head.
A little interaction is good bc total isolation is bad. Just one or 2 good friends should do it if ya don't got a family
Wasteland Legoshi I think some interaction is good for me, but it’s not for me to decide if someone else shouldn’t be isolated.
Fun Fact: Before Trolls, as a kid I used to get excited when animated movies in theaters. When this movie was announced, it marked the moment I stopped caring.
When I watched the movie I felt, yeah I'm officially too old for this type of things.
Then I stood corrected by other animated movies and realize Trolls was bad by itself and didn't bore me simply because I was 15.
Damn same
What bothers me that the most is that Branch was desaturated in the second movie. Like him finding his colors again meant absolutely nothing.
I feel like this film could've worked perfectly if its message was "It's okay to not be happy sometimes". This could've easily complemented the villain's plan of "making everyone happy", as she could have embodied toxic positivity and, if she succeeded, would demonstrate how bad life would be if we only expressed one emotion: naive, oblivious happiness.
I saw it more as tying happiness to something materialistic and superficial like a food that tastes good.
Inside Out got it right.
Yeah... cause sometimes I don’t wanna be happy

Trolls World Tour: *Why are the antagonists considered bad?*
Trolls: *Why are the protagonists considered good?*
Shark tale: *Why are the protagonists considered good?*
When I first watched this movie, I hated it. I absolutely hated it--the character design, the color palette, even some songs (except Sound of Silence, that cover was actually pretty good but I hated how it's "mocked" with it being a sad song and putting some "happy" twist to it, but the harmonies were awesome). I also got extremely annoyed with Poppy throughout the film. I tried to be patient, but it tested me a lot. I guess you can say we all relate to Branch.
But revisiting it now, I think I either didn't watch the full thing in full comprehension because of how much it tested my patience (they could have deleted that annoying high five scene with the cloud but they didn't), because the message is actually there, just not well-anunciated.
I think the message was that the toxic positivity of Poppy and the trolls literally led to their downfall. They lived in the privilege of being in a very safe environment and never had to face hardships and negative emotions. Branch, the only "woke" person in the community is ignored even though his reasoning is on point. That would have been an amazing reference to the cave allegory, but the way it's written is very biased to the cave side of the story.
It's only during the climax where they all get depressed that the outcast gets heard, and that would have been cool if it were written a different way.. I believe what the writers wanted to say to kids was "The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and it's necessary to be cautious to be safe and even use that negativity as important lessons; but when it gets to that darkest point, you still need to have hope."
That's a great lesson to learn, but it wasn't written in the best way given how ambiguous the motivations of Branch are through Poppy's eyes. I think the biggest writing mistake here was that the main character was Poppy and that we see through her POV instead of Branch's to get a clearer message. We just seen Branch suddenly change his mind in the climax and without necessary exposition or show to process his trauma and emotions, we're left with another "aw, cheer up, it's gonna be okay, I was wrong for being sad, sorry".
TLDR revising Trolls now, it has a fine message. Just a terrible delivery and kid-pandering, but given Dreamwork's Shrek did better than Prince of Egypt, I'd see why they'd invest on this instead of actually amazing films.
TLDR?

I understand it's a kids movie and it sounds like I'm being way too sensitive, but this movie honestly made me feel so alone. It just confirmed that introverts who don't like overstimulating music and crowds have a societal expectation to just "get over it and be happy". Also, the Bergen's were so done dirty. I really hate the whole message of "Stop being depressed, be happy!"
Branch was a realistic character, sometimes people just want to be left alone and aren't happy, it's a shame they had to ruin it at the end.
i think it would be interesting if poppy was the one with the "singing killed my father" trauma (i know its 'grandma' but i switched for a family member that we see in the movie, which is poppy's father). it would be so nice to see how the queen of a society always was taught about being happy when she carry something like this with her. idk, its just something that i thought it would be nice to see, mainly in a kids movie, showing that everyone loses someone, but the love is not gone, it stays with us here. and because of this, we have to give the best of ourselves and sometimes, let the pain into our hearts and let ourselves cry, feel deeply the sadness that is losing someone you love. i think it would be powerful. its even reminding me of disney/pixar movies.
I remember watching this in theaters and since the bergens sound like awful drunk abusive parents, I heard a little boy say, "Daddy's a bergen." I only realized that the second time seeing this movie on TV.

If the Cloud Guy kept pushing for physical contact, like a hug, and Poppy stood up for Branch because he didn't want to hug a stranger. Then the Chef is a more forceful or aggressive character that tries to hurt the trolls, before they fight her off in self-defense. And Bridget and the King could show clear consent of receiving affection, like asking for a kiss or to hold hands. It's incredibly important to teach children that they don't have to do everything adults tell them to if it could hurt them or make them feel weird, and I would love to watch a movie about that with my niece

Think about it.
You're a little kid living in a area with people that eat you.
You were singing a song that makes you happy and as we know, bergins eating trolls make them happy.
You were singing and catch a bergin's attention. They think. "Oh, this troll sounds really happy, so if I eat this one, I'll be just as, if not, happier."
The bergin goes to reach for you, only to have your grandmother, who you probably really close with and possibly living with because your parents got eaten too, save your life by trading you for herself to get eaten.

Alternate plotline:
Poppy and the other trolls embody toxic positivity, and the Bergens are a depressed race who are misunderstood as villains for not being happy all the time. Poppy’s father dies, and as she assumes the role of queen, everyone around her tries to brainwash her into believing that happiness is the only acceptable way to be and anyone who isn’t happy should be forced into happiness, like branch. Poppy and branch go on the quest to save their friends because of the evil chef, and along the way poppy learns that it’s ok to be serious and sad, and branch learns that it’s ok to lighten up and be happy. In the end the other trolls are trying to be happy and positive and loud when it clearly isn’t warranted and is antagonizing the Bergen’s even more, so poppy stands up and says that the Bergen’s were right and they were wrong, and it’s ok to be sad sometimes and happy other times. There was a lot of things that upset me in this film, like hiw no one listen to branch about how the noise would get them found, or the time when poppy had all of the trolls invade his bunker and make him prone to getting caught because he didnt want to risk his life the way she did, or how branch clearly doesn't like hugs or being touched yet everyone ignored him and continued ignoring his boundaries, or when poppy continuously ignored him all the time, or when branch didnt want to sing but everyone kept pressuring him until he said it killed his grandma, but they ended up singing anyways! In the wnd they covered all that yo and changed branch into one if the happy go go trolls like the rest which irritated me a lot because i liked his character before.
Kinda annoyed they didn’t call the movie “Rock and Troll”
Should've been the villain in the sequel
Do u mean the second movie?

Branch throwing the guitar/ukulele into the fire and curling up under the bed is honestly peak humor to me for some reason.
It was honestly the only thing in the movie that made me laugh harder than Branch revealing why he acts the way he does
The face makes it funnier
He’s kinda like me fr
I cackled so hard
branch: singing traumatized me, my grandma died because of it.
poppy: *what song was she singing?*
The fact that they used a Gorillaz song for the bergens seems like a crime. Song is Clint Eastwood (also the line "I got sunshine in a bag" said in the movie is talking about weed)
I was laughing when he said “cuz singing killed my grandma” when I saw it the first time 😭 I thought it was just a joke but it was a corny ass sob story.
Even by the time the movie ended I still thought that was a joke.
Damn you were that bad
The first time I watched it I thought his singing was that bad ;-;
Vocalization murdered my dowager
could have said that she died from a horrible illness
Trolls: *basically sets off a beacon in the sky in a troll shape*
Chef: *finds them*
Trolls: *surprise pikachu face*
Lol
How did Poppy and the other Pop Trolls (oh wait, Poppy is just Pop with py appended onto the end) not see that coming? Because they're nutbrains.

Poppy: *picks up poop* cupcake?!😁

Fun Fact: By there being K-Pop in the trolls universe, this implies there is a Troll Korea. In addition to Troll Korea, that implies there is also a Troll North Korea. Troll North Korea implies they have an army force. The army force of Troll North Korea imply that Troll World War II has happened. Troll World War II implies there was indeed a Troll Hitler.
You know one very, *very* simple way this movie could've been 100x better? If Branch didn't sing... *because he just didn't.* Because it just wasn't something he was interested in. I know, wild idea, right? Someone who doesn't conform to societal norms? No no no, we can't have that. Because uniqueness bad I guess? The message behind this movie is basically "Be just like everyone else. Fit in, even if you don't want to."
Also, if Branch were less "I'm edgy and depressed because of the Bergens" and more "I'm subdued and quiet because that's just the way I am, and that is okay and doesn't mean there's something wrong with me." I'm sick of this trope with introversion being directly related to depression. I'm heavily introverted and it's not because I'm depressed. It's just how I am. I don't hate people, I just prefer to keep my own company most of the time. But whenever there's a character in a movie who even remotely embodies similar traits, the story almost always forces them to change and become an extrovert.
That bunker raid scene was made to just be a “lol we are gonna take your stuff”, but in reality that’s his whole life savings and she literally broke into his house and let hundreds up strangers prance around, take his stuff, destroy his bunker, ect. She is a disgusting being for this and honestly it infuriates me.
Mm hm
Yeah I never understood how we were supposed to be on her side
@@literallymythirdaccount7950 yeah. It’s not even like he did anything to deserve it. I think her whole reason for doing that is because he wouldn’t share with them. That’s understandable. I wouldn’t wanna share my life savings with some random people. Just imagine if someone broke into your house and took the only things you had, and absolutely destroyed your house while doing it. You would never forgive that person and it would affect you for years. Not just financially but sentimentally as well..
She literally stole all his life stock for 10 years up to 2 weeks with all those trolls there, like he didn’t give you consent to go and steal everything in their house.
And it’s the fact that they painted Branch as the bad guy for being upset about it. It would be like if someone were to show up at your house, you reject them away, and they not only invite themselves in but also flow in another hundred or so people who just start ransacking your space and making themselves at home
Ngl an introvert and someone who struggles with anxiety I kinda find this film a little offensive near the beginning but maybe that's just me being sensitive
Nah you’re sensitive
honestly its an awful thing to tell children of that target audience because the little kids will see someone who's alone or maybe anxious and immediately invade their space to try and magically cheer them up like the trolls. it's probably not their intention to send that message but its still really obvious that was what it came off as
@@urielgonzalez900 probably rude to call people with GAD sensitive because its a genuine medical condition and affirms their fears but okay
@@leilasanderson5148 🤣🤣🤣 I know that exists tho. I suffer from anxiety too but the film not that bad and people are taking it a little too serious.
@@urielgonzalez900 I'm not saying I'm annoyed at the film and cry about every night lol I'm just saying when I watched it it kinda offended me a little and then that's it
3:53
fun fact: Bergen is a real town
"singing killed my grandma"
It's the excuse I would use in choir class
The troupe I always hate is when that force the introverted character or literally a person that just wants to be alone to be social being introverted my self this terrifies me so badly it's unreal thank you for listening
Yep
im an introvert but i can talk to people i just dont want to and that would be annoying
I disagree I feel like for kids it’s better to show social relationships because little kids are going to be at the age where they first start school, get friends and stuff like that. As much as it’s fine to be introverted I don’t think it’s good to be alone (I don’t mean liking to be by yourself but more so isolating yourself from everyone else and building no relationships) that’s literally a lonely life. And as someone who is introverted and pretty antisocial, being outcasted or isolated is one of my biggest fears
But the movies still sucks
@@XiaoIsMyHusbandBTW But toxic positivity shouldn't be taught to kids, you can't force depressed people to be happy by harrassing them and singing them song that's not how it works in real life someone like Branch would need therapy not someone telling him to " be positive" all the time. If it was so easy everybody would be happy.

*Oh god no*
I think that Poppy is trying SO hard for EVERONE to be happy that she doesn’t even REALIZE that she is actually hurting the trolls by making them feel like feeling sad is bad, feeling sad is completely normal, we can’t ALWAYS be happy 24/7, Poppy doesn’t want the Trolls to be sad, because when the Trolls are sad, Poppy’s immediate response is to FIX it not ADRESS it, Poppy is VERY emotional, even “empathetic” if you will, so sadness isn’t her forte, so she doesn’t KNOW HOW to address sadness in a HEALTHY way, she REALLY needs to realize that happiness isn’t always the BEST emotion.
Trolls ending is pretty much
Bergens: "We are bad"
Poppy: "no"
Bergens: "ok"
the trolls ending in a nutshell
bergins: We're bad
poppy: no
bergins: oh okay lets be good now
Bergins: Understandable have a nice day

I’m just mad that they dragged a good Gorillaz song into this

EXACTLY
Well Gorillaz’s Clint Eastwood was ok, it’s just the rapping I didn’t like.
sad. It was the first time I heard that song.
the only reason i praise the gorillaz part of this movie is because that scene got me into gorillaz cuz i thought the song
was cool but i agree it doesn’t rlly belong there lol
"because singing killed my grandma"
Ok now imagine if singing actually had that ability, and make it into a movie.
Now that's a movie I'd want to see, imagine it:
Instead of gang shootouts you just have people singing at each other.
Instead of nukes, Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just concerts
this movie is the definition of "oh you have depression? just be happy"
I feel like this is the kind of movie that Dream works is just forced to vomit out every once in a while to keep Universal happy and then produce a film they actually want to make.
What was the last “actually want to make” movie they made?... I can’t think of anything that good (besides from the How to Train your Dragon series)

Honestly even if the burgans would try to eat him, branch would probably be happier with them then with the trolls.

I'm still convinced that the only reason they had Justin Timberlake play Branch was because they wanted to play Can't stop the feeling at the end
Honestly,I liked the Troll movie. It’s colorful characters and happy songs made me feel better when I was sick and when I heard the song “Can’t stop the feeling” on the radio while going to the hospital or going home from the hospital it made me feel better. Well, that was a few years ago.
