      U don't even know horses that r under ur barn.
      Gelding/stud....?

      Blacksmith shouldn't b doing what u should hv been doing b4 he got there.
      What a shit show.
      Let's stand there instead of caring and grooming.
      Scared of a horse that has vices.
      🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
      Get some blankets on those skinny old horses...instead u leave them out in the bitterness.

    This is so frustrating and heart breaking to watch!! And I don't mean all you absolutely AMAZING PEOPLE doing the work of angels.... your tireless kindness and patience is so admirable. But to see how these horses were so neglected, untrained, seemingly rarely handled if ever and just not looked after at all. And the fact that the 3 unnamed black Quarter horses are that head shy.... that tells me something else was going on. I 'm worked with head shy horses and it was clearly due to abuse. A sugar cube often helped me get my Danish Warmblood/Giraffe get his bridle on...at 17'.2.5 hh! But nothing like these poor boys. I know this is a stupid question with zero answer but....WHY buy horses and let them rot and run wild in a field??? It's so cruel and makes them so vulnerable in terms of their future possibilities. Not everyone has the experience and know-how to handle such green horses like you guys and it can be extremely dangerous for people who are not capable. And tragically, I can't even imagine how many are just sent to auction and their horrific fate is sealed. 100% out of sheer neglect and or abuse. Why do people do this?? It infuriates me to no end!! Thank GAWD you get surrenders, many still want to make a few bucks.... nauseating.
    I'm a life long equestrian (show jumping and FEI dressage) and die-hard horse lover. My horses were always my entire life and got the BEST treatment possible and so very loved. It shatters me to see the level of neglect and clearly abuse many of these gorgeous horses have endured... right down to basic hoof care and vet care. That's horsemanship 101!!! Non-negotiable!!! If you can't afford to take care of a horse properly, don't put one through the nightmare. Get a plant instead and try to remember to water it!!!!
    I truly admire what all you guys do, I'm binge watching and getting rather emotional...ok..I'm a sobbing hot mess....seeing how terrified and confused they are. It breaks my heart! And missing my own horses, just aching to just be able to snuggle up to one right now and just shower them with love and affection. I'm battling a rare bone disease right now but I'll never lose hope that I'll one day be back in the saddle or at least adopt a rescue or 2 and spoil them rotten...in all the responsible, loving ways a good horse parent should.
    Bless you guys so much!!! I wish I lived closer, I would love to volunteer and give you all a huge hug!!
    Quick question, have you thought about putting rubber mats down or non-slip coating on the cement isle floor? It sure helps with the spastic outbursts and slipping! I'm always so afraid of a bad fall and seen it happen too many times. And I'm not trying to be annoying and b*tchy like I'm sure some 'know it alls' are, just an honest and sincere question out of concern and many years of experience.
    Much love to you all!!

    Tazzy REALLY needs work in a round pen with high sides. It limits his overstimulation from everything around him... and they can't bolt and run away from whatever he thinks is scary in a round pen. I had a rescue horse like him who had learned that bolting and running away was a great way to get away from pressure. He got so bad he went through fences and onto a road and got hit. He lived... obviously .... but that only added to his list of terrifying things that made him bolt. I spent months working with him in the round pen with various equipment as we went along. They can't bolt and run away when there is nowhere to go. Eventually, we were able to work with him outside of the round pen doing the things that previously had sent him through fences. When he left... I wouldn't call him a 'safe' horse (not that there is ANY horse that should ever be referred to that way... ALL horses can spook... but he was worlds better than he was when I first took him in. Time patients, and appropriate tools/equipment and places to work with hoses are needed... and I don't see this place using them which is... odd. We made our round pen for something like 300 and that was mostly for cement for the posts and we did buy new posts rather than using older reclaimed ones. the sides were solid up to I think it was 7 or 8 feet. I can't remember at this point. It was safer for the horses. A bit of a risk for us if we can't dive under or go over... but it's a calculated risk.

    It hurt to watch you guys and the horses sliding in the barn aisles. Someone is going to get hurt bad! What can we all do to fix that? Anywhere there to pick up used matting? I know new is expensive

    • @pjk1714
      @pjk1714 Рік тому

      They certainly need more of it but textured.

    • @PonyTalesRefuge
      @PonyTalesRefuge  Рік тому +2

      The aisle concrete is textured, but when you add snowy feet to it, well, it gets slippery. We would like to get permanent matting in the barn, but for an area less than a 1/4 of the barn, it costs close to $9k. Goals!! For now, we do our best to be careful and if the horses don't pull, etc (like Stout was) there generally is not an issue.

    After my novella below and a bit nostalgic aka weepy, I just wanted to share a condensed video montage of my amazing but at times very painful equestrian journey, especially with my last amazing FEI dressage horse. I hope it's ok to share. Although he was stunningly gorgeous, super talented and not exactly a bargain, I chose him mainly because I could tell he was being abused and wanted to rescue him and I did just that and more. We both were so happy together and formed and incredible bond. And in the time we had together, he changed my life in so many ways! I thought you would appreciate the title as well....
    'A Horse Tale.' ....Much love and gratitude to you all for everything you do! You are my heroes!!

      If it was a business, it would not take a draft that does not lead to the point of being dangerous and would sell all three of those head shy horses to meat buyers asap instead of trying to give them farrier care. That guy was getting the job done. So was the vet. They could use a talented trainer for sure, but it is no quick fix if difficult horse comes in.

      You do realize these horses had only just arrived at our shelter and needed to be vetted as is? Additionally, we have trainers and handlers that did a wonderful job handling these barely handled horses to get the much needed vet and farrier work done so they can now begin learning all the things they were never taught. As far as the mentoring, none of it is about handling unhandled horses.
