Knew exactly what the lady meant when she spoke of Seattle Slew. Can't fool some by mispronouncing a name. Congratulations on the horse you took in. He will be A-ok. Lotsa love and patience. Some race horses are meant to be just loved. Most folks wouldn't want to know what goes on behind the barns at a race track.

OMG, I remember Seattle Slew's races quite well! Great breeding. If this horse is going up for adoption, there should be no fuss in finding them a forever home with this pedigree. I have a another story about a famous racehorses line. This horse was in the slaughter pipeline. So emaciated it would bring tears to your eyes to see. She couldn't even stand. While nursing her back to health, they happened to a tiny tattoo under the filth.
I hope that "thing" that did this to her feels the misery of his pockets, for the rest of his life, learning the money that could have lined them had he of not been the cruel monster he was to her! I love a sad story with such a happy ending. I just had to share seeing this video.

I took over a 17 year old mare, and decided to keep her barefoot, it took me 2 years to get her sound on all surfaces on all 4 feet, about a year for the hind hoof, and another year for the front hoofs.
I used boots for rides during these years, in the end, just when I knew the terrain would be rough or painful for her.
The progress it had on her body was incredible.
The way her whole "skeleton" had a positive progression.
In the 3rd year, she didn't even need to be trimmed, because she was "self trimming" her posture was so right, that just her way of walking, would trim the hoof correctly.
The farrier was really impressed, and I learned a lot about how food impacted her hoofs too.
I was borded in a stable, where the hay was so good, it actually made her hoof to soft.
And I learned that it's natural, because horses in the wild, will adapt their hoof to the situation, so in seasons when the grass is lush and therefore, the ground also is soft, their hoof needs to be softer, or it would easily grow to long, and same as when the grass is sparse, the ground will probably be hard, so they need harder hoofs to withstand the tear.
Which seems to speak truth for my horse too. You could see rapid change in the hoof hardness, in just a few weeks.
She is now a happy retired pasture pet.

If my memory serves, Seattle Slew was also a "cinderella" horse who was not expected to prosper because of his slewed leg running, and was originally bought for a song by a new horse race couple. The excitement was electric as he conquered the Triple Crown. Wow, what an amazing horse - sure hope he does well with the new shoes; it sound and looks right that his entire conformation, health, and comfort will improve as the toes shorten and, hopefully, the heels get higher. Great farrier! Great video!

I had a mare who's daddy was Old Chronicle. So that made her related to a lot of famous Thoroughbreds. She was my first horse and my favorite as well. We were just 2 peas in a pod and I miss her so much. Although she's over the rainbow bridge she holds a special place in my heart and memories.

Kudos to your media team. You have come such a long way and I am so proud of you guys how much you have grown. I remember watching the first HPHS featuring Pony Tales when Cindy was leading horses through a garage and could barely hold herself together. Fabulous work you do, pls keep it up and always remember what it is worth and why you are doing it. Every single one of you (volunteers included). Garnet is royalty when it comes to bloodlines. His feet being so far off and rocking him back would really mess him up. So hoping that getting his feet in shape with proper angle will get him rideable! I had reg. QH and purebred Arabs for years and have seen my share of improper hoof care. Was told my one horse was navicular...he was not. Once his feet were right he was fine. Fingers crossed and prayers for Garnet! I am 75 yrs old and I remember Skipper W...he was really something to wish for!

Another really, really amazing episode, thank you so much! Stanford really needs his own little show 😂 Oh it is so special to see how far Envy has come. The farrier? Amazing! Brave and strong for one - but also very, very knowledgeable. And that so important! And oftentimes you can see such bad jobs on horses feet…. My heart goes to the Thoroughbred, to Garnet. They have a special place in my heart. When I was still able to ride we took them after their racing career ended and trained them to become riding horses. Also Standardbreds. I really hope he gets a lot better with his feet! The chiropractor was amazing, too. You could really see how much relief Daphne and Captain got from her treatment!

I just learned that bale barns with slow feed nets save users a lot of money because the horses can't bite off a chunk of hay, throw it on the ground and then don't eat it. Also they protect the hay from the elements. They will pay for themselves. I saw it on a horse channel in Michigan.

Omg, having to run with the hose to fill tanks before the hose freezes solid... I remember that! Usually partway through the winter, I'd have to give up on hoses and just carry buckets. And buckets. Three times a day, buckets. Luckily I only had 5 horses at the most to deal with. I'm so happy to see how well Envy and Daphne are doing. They really pull at my heartstrings. Loved this episode. 🥰

Omg! Garnet is GORGEOUS!! Why so many surrenders?? 7 in seven years is so hard on the horse to form bonds. He's special! If his withers and back hurt, maybe if he was ridden a lot he had an ill fitting saddle? On top of shoeing issues? I can't stress the importance of finding a saddle that fits the horse properly and even having it re-stuffed to fit perfectly to prevent sore spots. Especially Thoroughbreds because of their high withers and sensitive backs. I rode and owned many!! Though I ride English, not sure what they do for Western. It made a huge difference in my last horse's overall comfort, movement and performance. And a gel pad helped too or a foam key pad to raise up the cantle. SO glad you're doing chiro!! That's amazing! That works miracles! We combined that with masso-therapy, hydro therapy and even Reiki and before things really tanks, it all helped really well!
I can't believe the improvement in Envy's back hoof!! It's beautiful and she even has a frog now!! I was so worried about her!!! She's got dinner plates for hooves!! Stunning girl!!

Just a little nudge to those who wish they had a horse or those who are learning about horses.
Horses are not something you just put up on a shelf and ignore as it becomes convenient to you. They have to have vet care, vaccinations and such, farrier work, and stalls bedded and cleaned daily. Sometimes I think of it as a 24/7 job. You always have an ear or eye open to help them with their needs.
Winter time is especially difficult. When temperatures get down low enough, if you spit, it freezes before it hits the ground.
So dig deep and try to donate for feed, chips, electric bill, and those certain to happen emergencies. Just $6.00 can buy a small bale of hay. Rule of thumb is 1 ton of hay per horse for over winter. God bless you all. Give up that latte for a day and donate that money to help a horse. Thanks.
    Sis

Daphne is pretty dang cute. I like her a lot she’s real flashy looking. those big old drafty hooves look like salad plates, so big I’m surprised Paulie even does those. It’s hard to find somebody to do those kind of hooves. Not every Ferrier will work on drafty feet. Usually the Amish work on those kind of hives.

    My God, poor Envy! :(
Trust the horse, not the farrier!
The extremely high heel and short toe on that hoof really hurts her, she can't walk straight! She couldn't hold up the other hind hoof for long because of the pain in the other hind hoof :(
The farrier said 3 -4 trims the first time and said exactly the same the second time, no clue at all!!
He really liked to brag about his own foot massage experience...
Envy has big, strong, good hooves (except for one hind hoof) why is he talking about put on shoes then, it's not for the horse's well-being anyway!!
Hope she finds her forever home soon and gets better hoofcare
