For all of you wondering, the Vet is Dr Jim Schmidt. He’s a local vet that has a brilliant talent. I had the honor of knowing him & having him as our vet for 20 years. He’s reasonably priced, has brilliant talent, he’s LOVES to chat, he’s always willing to listen & to come out in all elements at all hours. And is silly, stupidly in love with Great Danes! But ladies…..he’s HAPPILY MARRIED. Sorry to disappoint.

I am so happy the six horses went to an amazing adopter - especially Bismark! So, so happy! Paulie is definitely the hero of this episode. I am so glad the two Standardbreds are doing so well - and Daphne, too!

With all the issues you encounter with rescue horses you are so truly blessed to have such a knowledgeable, committed and caring farrier. I've worked with many different farriers throughout my life and he's a true gem. I put him up amongst the best. Every video I watch I'm continually so impressed with how you all, as a team, face every challenge and just keep pushing on thru. You've truly got my deep respect. 🥰 ♥️ 🤗

I loved and hated seeing the horses go… especially my fav Bismarck, but I know they will be so happy!!! Tazio’s story is so sad, I feel sad for his owner too, it must have been a hard realization that she had to let go…. Now he is my favorite, although really having a favorite is hard with all of those wonderful horses! Glad to see the Standies are doing better, they deserve it!! Y’all take care and many blessings to you!

What a great ferrier you are young man - you should be teaching others this important part of horse care. We are hurting so bad here in N Michigan, for both good ferriers and large animal veterinarians, heck veterinarians in general.

My husband has been a farrier for quite a few years. He absolutely loves horses. His grandfather was a farrier... his great grandfather was a farrier. They both told him, “Treat each horse as if it were your own”….& if you should EVER feel you’re starting to get desensitized? Hopefully, someone will tell you, OR, give you a good backhand smack in the head, & holler “WAKE TF UP YOU FOOL!! EITHER DO IT RIGHT, OR GTFO & FIND ANOTHER PROFESSION!!!”. My Cowboy loves Pauly! He’s seen his share of BAD farrier work, & says it’s REALLYYY GREAT to see another fellow farrier w/the same passion he has!! He says to thank Pauly, & he is a truly a breath of fresh air…after the shower of a longgg day!! LOL!! We’re ranchers of more than one. We are barefoot & bitless riders. There are times when shoes may be needed…& where a bit may be needed. It just depends on the situation. But, bitless♥️is AMAZING!! As is, barefoot♥️. ANOTHER PRODUCT that I wanted to put my 2¢ in on is: There are these hoof covers called “Scoot Boots”. We ALL have a set of Scoot Boots in our saddle bags!! They’ve become a staple to have with us. Check them out! My Cowboy was SUPER skeptical of them, until a good friend of ours gave me a set. They’ve worked WONDERS in certain hoof situations! I was amazed…I thought, “Ah geez🙄another bs hoof product…”. But, I was wrong! They’re wonderful!
My husband is STILL a farrier, but, mainly just OUR horses. We have more than one ranch. So, he has more than enough horses to take care of. My Cowboy(been married going on 31 yrs…been together going on 32 yrs. we married quite young. We’ve been SO BLESSED throughout our marriage. We have a daughter who will be graduating soon so, we’ll also have a Vet!! She wants to be our personal Vet(MUSIC TO OUR EARS!! LoL!!)…& for people who love & want to keep their horses…but, vet bills aren’t easy to afford. So, she wants to help people w/the cost of things. Like give discounts, or even barter. She ESPECIALLY wants to help the people of the Pine Ridge Rez w/their horse issues. We are Oglala Lakota, & live in the northern Black Hills of SD, now. We use to live about 22 miles from where you guys are! I had 4 horses, when we moved. Our daughter has BIG DREAMS, & I KNOW she will fulfill EVERY SINGLE ONE!!
We would LOVE to visit your refuge…when there’s green grass! Maybe sometime this summer or fall. We ALWAYS bring a trailer😁!! Ya never know!!
Sorry that this was soooo long! I apologize!! I get started , sometimes go longer than I should!! I’m working on shorter comments, but….🤷🏼‍♀️. I am who I am😁.
    ✨Y’all Take Care✨
Now, that I found you guys? I’ve been binge watching your episodes!! THANK YOU!!! SINCERELY… THANK YOU!!! For ALLLLL OF YOU WHO HELP THOSE WHO WOULDN’T Have HAD A CHANCE WITHOUT OUT YOUR TEAM!!
    MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL✨💖✨

I was so sorry to see Bismark leave, as it appeared he had settled in so nicely at the selter and being blind I thought he would have had a home for life with you. You can't help but worry about their future and wellbeing

    • @PonyTalesRefuge
      @PonyTalesRefuge  Рік тому +2

We are a shelter, not a sanctuary. As sweet and kind as Bismark was, and how a lot of us would have loved to give him a forever home, he is making a little family very happy and even went to that home with the pasture mate he had here at our shelter. He is living a spoiled life and while we do worry about them after they leave, it is the reason we have the contract we have when adopting. To guarantee they are always safe. Thank you!

You need to get some stone dust to put in that mud. If you tamp it in while it's muddy and let it dry it will not get muddy like that again.

This may sound silly and if anyone can help them out please do, I recommend ordering lots of rubber mats. Why rubber mats? they are heavy enough you can set them easily in the mud and they shouldn't slide too much (with the amount ofmud you have going I would say it wouldn't do any harm to get some quick-crete too) put the quick-crete under the mats if the mats slide, but you can make a walkway with the mats- so during muddy season you can have a solid place for you and the horses to walk. A channel called "Think like a horse" put a ton around his place, some in gate areas (cause foot traffic is so heavy mud gets softest there) and made like sturdier areas for his horses to rest if the mud got too slippery.
Of course you wouldn't have to force your horses onto them, you let them figure out on their own. They are soft but still sturdy enough for them to stand on. Some horses will use the spots to rest their feet if they are a bit sore, or just go to chill on more solid ground for a bit.
Unfortunately I am a broke person who doesn't own horses but I grew up with them and always look for ways to help. While I can't afford this stuff for you guys if anyone is willing to help them out or if they are willing to give the rubber mats a try themselves I think its a good idea.
I am saying to try this cause I see the horses slipping in the mud, I know you have many still working on feet problems, so it may be easier/safer for all of you not to mention helpful for the horses with tender feet. Just solid, flat rubber mats, nothing so hard it feels like a rock but has some bounce to it so the horses hooves can move over them without being on a rough hard surface.
Oh yeah with the amount of mud and concrete they have to walk on at the rescue, talk to the Ferrier about some good rubber mats to use to help the horses. "think like a Horse" really had a good idea with those, and I think you should invest in that idea. (best yet is rubber is hard to biodegrade, but still easier on feet then concrete or mud, and if it isn't cemented down -like how I recommend doing the outside mats- you can move the mats around at your own whims!)

If this exists already, please point me to it, but what I'd love to see, as I'm getting to know you, and watching all the back videos, is what's happened to each of these wonderful horses? I've been thinking about it, then it came up again watching the premiere when you compared one of the horses here to Envy. I didn't know who Envy was and I didn't have a place to look.
I've got to think on that great computer of yours you are tracking your horse data-- you've probably already got a spreadsheet or a database or something that could generate a spreadsheet/table that would display the name, breed, origins (auction, surrender, etc.), arrival date, departure date; type of departure (including, unfortunately, death) and a notes column. And it would be double wonderful to link to their video(s)/playlist but that's probably not so easy.
Anyway, something to look at when watching a video, so I can see what their current status is or where they ended up (generally)...
    Like, what happened to Envy?
