Bruce gave up flying the plane for the current tour because legally he is close to mandatory retirement as a commercial airline pilot. Once a commercial airline pilot reaches 65, he or she must retire. Bruce said that he decided to retire early due to the riggers of the road. He can still pilot his planes but he can no longer do so for pay.
I am from Brazil. I've been to about 9 of their shows. Every show is a surprise. The energy they pass from the stage to us is something indescribable. Bruce is from another world.
Indeed and there's literally over 500,000 of yall just inside the huge arena to see them during the Rock n Rio festival.. You all absolutely bring it every single year!! I would love to come down there to see them play instead of anywhere else during their tours. Mad respect for all you Maiden fans down in Brazil!! Up the Irons!!!
The Rock in Rio live CD was more or less a drug for me when I was in my late teens, the energy and performance is probably one of the better ones throughout metal history! I'm Swedish btw. Love your Brazilian metal, I'm a huge fan of Angra!
I am 19 actually and 1st time I heard them is by stealing an album to my father (brave new word) for discover and now I just love their musics it's so lovely to hear
As a die hard maiden fan I think it’s the greatest metal song ever. If I’m being unbiased I could live with Heaven and Hell at number 1 but for me this is the peak of the entire genre.
Hi it's Michael from Australia here. So glad you chose to watch Iron Maiden. One of my favourite bands. I was lucky enough to see them live in Sydney, Australia around 2005.
Most of the band are in their mid 60's, the Drummer Nicko is now 70, and they're still touring with the same energy you see here. Welcome to the world of Iron Maiden, I've been a fan since the early 80s. Great channel. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bruce is a commercial pilot and flew for Astraeus Airlines & he also pilots "Ed Force One" their passenger jet. This song came out in 1982 and is the last track on the the "The Number of the Beast." album. Steve Harris, the bassist & song writer, created the band in 1975. We have all been wanting Bruce to turn his mic up since forever, lol. My second concert ever (First was Kiss) was Iron Maiden, we drove up to Seattle (Portland had/has a ban on pyrotechnics so a lot of bands did not play there) to seem them in 1884 I think. I have seen them quite a few times since then.
Bruce and Rob Halford are two vocalists that are truly amazing. Not only to be so good, but to be that good for as ling as they have. Both have blowing minds and kicking ass for 40 plus years. Their energy and passion is infectious.
Iron Maiden has been around since 1975. Hallowed be thy Name was on an album released in March 1982. The Flight 666 concert DVD was filmed at concerts between Feb and March 2008 (the Toronto show here was on 16 March 2008). In reference to the time between the release of the song and this live performance, it is a period of almost exactly 26 years (a period that Iron Maiden was continually active, touring and releasing new material). So I'm betting a significant number of fans in that Toronto crowd were listening to a song released before they were actually born. Iron Maiden and the quality of their live performances is justifiably legendary; they are hugely influential for setting the benchmark (rarely achieved) for what is expected of a live heavy metal band in a concert performance.
"Live After Death" is still one of my favourite live albums, ever. They where in their "prime". If possible, check a few songs from that album. There's great footage from that album/performances, too. Hope to see more reactions from Iron Maiden.
You have just witnessed easily the best / most successful Heavy Metal Band that has ever existed. They are a one off, I suspect it will be a very long time before a Metal band this great. You have to remember how old they are here.. They are all Grandads!! It's hard to believe how this still perform to this level.
I went to see them in 1984 at the Philadelphia spectrum. Twister sister opened for them. It was the craziest concert I ever went to. I went with to the concert with my friends Joe B. Jerry P. who just passed away last month, Frank C. and my cousin Todd I. Joe brought a 1/2 pound of weed and rolled a join every minute or so and lit it then passed it down the row. We had a blast. Dee Snider from Twister Sister got the crowd going wild. It's a night I will never forget.
Thanks for your great reaction video of this fantastic song! Iron Maiden is just one of the greatest band on this planet. I love them like i never loved a band before, and i believe that all theyr fans not just love them, it's a huge passion. Listening to maidens music is breathtaking, something you never want to miss anymore. It's really worth to listen close to all theyr albums and all these great songs. For me personally there was a gap in the whole 90's when blaze bayley was the singer, until bruce dickinson returns to the band in 1999. It wasn't really good, but brave new world (2000) was a great slbum again.
Iron Maiden was one of my first bands to listen when I was introduced to rock and metal...It was 2003 and I was just a kid to become a teenager. They just released Dance of Death, my first album from them and my third one in general (The Golden Age of Grotesque from Marilyn Manson first, and then Fallen from Evanescence) and it marked an important moment in my life, my golden age of discovery of rock and metal music, what a time to be a teenager, lots of bands in their prime, Maiden, Manson, HIM, Nightwish, Slipknot, Rammstein, Stratovarius, Muse, gosh, I miss the 2000-2010's...But Maiden is always going to have an special place in my heart, and if you have the opportunity, go to a show from them! It's absolutely worth it, it what you said, the energy, they have great and amazing music, of course, but it's all about the vibes, the feeling of being surrounded by various generations of fans. Unique. :D Last year I saw them for the second time, and WOW, you can't say that all of them have more than 60 years (the drummer passes the 70's) they sound like always, even better! Ah! and by the way, the singer, Bruce Dickinson, have a solo project that it's very worth to listen at! I suggest Tattooed Millionaire, Shoot at the clowns, tears of the dragon, killing floor, Inertia, Man of sorrows and abduction!
They formed in the 70's Bruce was not with them at that time, however he was in another band called Samson and Maiden opened for them in 1980 and that's how they met. Bruce joined Maiden in 81.Which this song was originally recorded on the 82' release The Number of the Beast. This performance is from the "Somewhere Back in Time World Tour" My wife and saw this show on her Birthday in Phoenix, AZ what an amazing night it was. Anyway, this song was 26 years old at this performance. However, they're back on tour right now and still playing it. Which it is now 41 years old. And they're still killing it out there live.
I had the pleasure of seeing them when i was just 14 years old and didn't know much about them... Holy Moly!! They Totally Blew my Mind, with their Stage show and Musicianship!!! 😎,Been a Fan Ever Since!!!😘🤘,Great React Beautiful young lady.. Much Love
I was live on a concert of iron maiden and I can tell you they are absolutely insane live. Even now when they are older they are absolutely burning down everything 😁
Right near the end, the back of my 17-year old head can be seen; blew my mind when I got the dvd. What an amazing show; the whole concert was the best event I've ever seen. If you ever get the chance, see this band. Bruce lost his voice temporarily due to cancer, but he is back in full force. Cheers.
Iron Maiden is a legend. Bee around since 1975! Bruce Dickinson is phenomenal in the way he could hit the high sustained vocal range. Especially in his earlier performances He is 64 years young! And yes, he was a commercial airline pilot before he joined Iron Maiden. He was a pilot for Astraeus Airlines in Canada. The plane you see with Iron Maiden on it is flown by Bruce. it is a Boeing. 747!
Although Iron Maiden was formed in 1975, Steve Harris (bass) is the only member (being the band leader + primary songwriter) from that original pub band from the West End of London... From the current Iron Maiden, Dave Murray (guitar) joined in 1976 and became a permanent member in 1977 (after some changes involving an early vocalist)... Murray was friends (and bandmates) w/ Adrian Smith (guitar) who had his own band Urchin; Smith declined to join Iron Maiden, but finally joined in late 1980 as Urchin folded. Bruce Dickinson (vocals) was in a band called Samson in the late 70's/ early 80's and had done shows w/ Iron Maiden (when Paul Di'Anno was the vocalist)... When Di'Anno parted ways w/ Iron Maiden in the fall of 1981... Bruce Dickinson joined Maiden and made his debut on their 3rd album 'The number of the beast' in 1982 (which 'Hallowed be thy name' is on) In 1989, Adrian Smith left Iron Maiden, burned out by a decade of touring... Janick Gers (guitar) played on Bruce Dickinson's first solo album in 1990 ('Tattooed millionaire') and Gers replaced Smith in Iron Maiden that year. Bruce Dickinson left Iron Maiden in 1993 for a solo career... he was replaced by Blaze Bayley (vocals) for 2 albums. However, Maiden did poorly w/ Blaze as the singer... Dickinson's solo career also tanked... So, when the offer was made to reunite both Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith to Iron Maiden in 1999, they both accepted... Murray, Gers and Smith became a triple-guitar team in Maiden. This video was from their 2008 tour ('Flight 666') which revisited their 1984/ '85 tour for their 5th album 'Powerslave'.
You failed to mention the late, great Clive Burr, who played on the first three albums, replaced by Nicko McBrain in 1982, and who is still with the band.
@@brianferris8668 I only touched on the current members and didn't mention Dennis Stratton (guitar) or Paul 'Mad Mac' Cairns (guitar) who did the Space ward demos (He was not credited)
Iron "FN" Maiden There is nothing better than a Maiden concert ever.... My favorite band since the 80's ....... \ More Iron Maiden Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw Maiden for the first time when I was 13 - I saw them for the 6th time last year - almost 38 years to the day from the first time (I,m 52). They are incredible live even after decades and they give 110% to their fans every time - they thrive as a live band on stage more than anything. They are starting a new tour in the next week or so and will be back on the road just a few months after finishing a super long tour that was interupted by the pandemic. PS - love your shirt - saw the Phantom performance at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto in the early 80's and a few more times since. Iron Maiden also has a song called Phantom of the Opera - nothing like the Lloyd-Webber version tho. You should check it out!!
This is from an absolutely awesome rock documentary called "Flight 666." Well worth a viewing. It follows the band on a worldwide tour where the singer flies their custom 747.
another song you will like from Iron Maiden is Rime of the Ancient Mariner, you will love it! By the way, the singer Bruce Dickinson is also a commercial pilot, he is the pilot for this world tour.
Bruce Dickinson is one of the most talented guys around. He has done so much in his life. One of his skills/jobs in the 'off-season' is professional pilot. He flies for a small company in Europe and when he asked if he could use one of their planes for their tour, his bosses agreed and even let the livery be added, so yeah, they have their own plane, piloted by their lead singer. and, in one case in the US, when he heard there were fans in a nearby city that could not get to their concert, he flew over to pick them up and flew them back to enjoy the concert. AMAZING guy, not just an awesome singer.
...you realize, these guys were doing this well before you were born, this performance is past their prime, but still great...they are legend...first time I watch you, you are cute, I will subscribe
I was at this concert in Toronto. It was their Somewhere Back In Time tour. A documentary was filmed based on this tour, and it was done by another Canadian named Sam Dunn. And yes, they prefer as even a sound mix as possible.
Hey Rachel I saw them last year live my 7th time in teh last 20 years of going to concerts. And even last year the have the same energy, fun and sound as in this Video. An I'm thinking about to going to watch them this year my 8th time because they are fucking awesome.
That was a great reaction. You get it! Camaraderie, energy, passion... It's a recipe for perfection when you combine that with awesome musicians, songwriters, and a great vocalist/front man. It's why they are the greatest. Check out Hallowed Be Thy Name (Live) Hammersmith for a better vocal performance. It's the best version in my opinion and many others. You'll appreciate the vocals more with that version. :)
If you watch the Flight 666 video/movie/thing... I was terribly impressed that every town they visit he skates in the parking lot while singing the whole concert the morning of the show.... very serious about his craft, and a pretty nice dude too. ;)
You will always want more after listening to one of their songs. So I would go with a couple of many peoples favourites Rime of the ancient Mariner and Paschendale
I have watched this performance many times and have never had the audio imperfections you had might have been a copied version anyway just found your reactions today and been going through them and watching them at least the bands I recognize and enjoy thanks
The original studio version can be found on the 1981 album "The Number Of The Beast" IRON MAIDEN was originally started in 1975 with a different lead singer. Bruce became the lead singer in 1980.
The band will celebrate there *** 50 YEARS *** In 2025... They are simply THE BEST !! Nothing are better than Maiden live... NOTHING. I have seen many many band over the years ( Pink Floyd, Metallica, Foo Fighter, Slayer, Rush, Paul McCartney, Muse, Deep Purple, Rammstein, Motley Crue, Deff Leppard, Bon Jovi, Genesis, and many many others.... ). NO ONE are close to Maiden ... Her show was almost a Wolrd Cup Final OR a Superbowl each and every time i have seen them... Simply THE BEST !!!
I saw these guys for the 3rd or 4th time in Tacoma Washington in 2019 and they have not lost a bit of energy or stamina on stage! Maiden is one of my favorite bands and in fact I happened to be wearing a Maiden shirt today.
I seen them live in 2016 and even though they were all pushing 60, Nicko was already in his 60s, they fucking killed it. Running around the stage, going wild, all while old enough to be my grandfather 👌🤘
They have the own plane and the singer is the Pilot. This is simply awesome! And also, you can try ANY music from this concert Flight 666 that will be incredible!
The DVD of the "666" tour was released in 2009, theese guys are still running strong, the quality of a great show still is nothing to worry about. They are all very close in age, but I know Nicko said, the day he dont feel he longer he can keep up , he will end his time in the game. I think they all feel the same that day comes, but still... One of the best and healthy bands on the run..F****ng the gratest true time in my mind!
Iron Maiden has not let up at all. In the past, some bands would just try to live off their past hits. Iron Maiden still puts in the work; their newest albums are great too.
This is a brilliant live performance. If you want to hear Bruce in his absolute prime listen to the Hammersmith version from 20 years earlier. You get more of his voice cutting through. And of course theres one less guitar as Janick was yet to join. I saw them in 2023 and am seeing them in June 2025 they are still nailing it even though Nicko the Drummer is getting on and a 2.5 hour set with the bands relentless schedule is taking its toll. Bruce's voice is still brilliant despite throat cancer 9 years ago but obviously the energy of the running around is down a bit but hes a fitter man than i am and im 13 years his junior. When you compare him to say, Rod Stewart whose voice has completely gone now and really shouldn't be touring anymore, hes quite awesome. Bruce, Jagger and Brian of ACDC are still on their vocal game.
The story of how they got their “own” plane stemmed from planning this particular tour (Somewhere Back In Time Tour 2008/09). Bruce worked as a pilot and marketing director for a now defunct airline called Astraeus. While the band were discussing the logistics of touring certain countries, they were on the verge of abandoning a world tour due to costs and travel, he pitched an idea to them along the lines of “I can ask my boss to lease us a plane, and we can use it to get the band, the gear, the crew and everything else from A to B in one go. We’d be able to do a world tour on a European tour itinerary and budget.”, and they said “yeah go for it”. So he spoke to his boss and he said “yes, but it’s coming out of your wages.” So for that tour they leased a Boeing 757, converted to carry the additional cargo of the stage gear along with the band, crew, management, and a couple of film maker fans from Toronto (Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn) who filmed a documentary for the first leg of the tour (Flight 666), and occasionally Bruce would even fly the plane himself, as long as he wasn’t performing within 12 hours of that flight. The first leg of the tour finished in Toronto, so Scot and Sam were able to get straight into editing for the documentary. It’s definitely worth a watch if you get a chance, even just to see how big a following the band has worldwide… the first show was in Mumbai, they had never played in India before, but you wouldn’t know it by how the fans reacted. It’s when they get to the Latin Americas that it gets crazy though (Fear Of The Dark in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Wasted Years in Monterrey, Mexico are great examples of how crazy the fans can get).
Not only did they have their own plane, but the singer, Bruce Dickinson, was often the pilot of Ed Force One on world tours.
I was so ready to point this out!👍🤘

Bruce is still more than capable of hitting every note as do the rest of the band as confirmed seeing them in concert 28 June 2023 in Leeds, UK.
Iron "FN" Maiden There is nothing better than a Maiden concert ever.... My favorite band since the 80's ....... \ More Iron Maiden Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
from the Rio live, "fear of the dark" is just magic !!! welcome in 70's - 80's metal world !
I love that there is a big variety of different ages of fans in the audience.
I grew up with these guys…I wanna hear more, too!!!
Saw them last year in Frankfurt Germany. Still great as ever.
another song you will like from Iron Maiden is Rime of the Ancient Mariner, you will love it! By the way, the singer Bruce Dickinson is also a commercial pilot, he is the pilot for this world tour.
1 of the best live versions, good on ya :-)
Another band that is brilliant live and the amount of Energy Bruce has at his age running up and down the stage is class!
I saw them in Madison Square Garden in the 80's, best live band I ever saw
Bruce Dickinson is one of the most talented guys around. He has done so much in his life. One of his skills/jobs in the 'off-season' is professional pilot. He flies for a small company in Europe and when he asked if he could use one of their planes for their tour, his bosses agreed and even let the livery be added, so yeah, they have their own plane, piloted by their lead singer. and, in one case in the US, when he heard there were fans in a nearby city that could not get to their concert, he flew over to pick them up and flew them back to enjoy the concert. AMAZING guy, not just an awesome singer.
...you realize, these guys were doing this well before you were born, this performance is past their prime, but still great...they are legend...first time I watch you, you are cute, I will subscribe
a video you should definitely check out is Fear of the Dark from their 2001 Rock in Rio concert. 250,000 fans singing along is amazing.
I was at this concert in Toronto. It was their Somewhere Back In Time tour. A documentary was filmed based on this tour, and it was done by another Canadian named Sam Dunn. And yes, they prefer as even a sound mix as possible.
Better late than not arriving to the show at all . Up the Irons my friend
Hey Rachel I saw them last year live my 7th time in teh last 20 years of going to concerts. And even last year the have the same energy, fun and sound as in this Video. An I'm thinking about to going to watch them this year my 8th time because they are fucking awesome.
Imagine being in your late 60's/early 70's and not only having this much fun, but also being able to move like that.
Iron Maiden peaked in the 80's. Then just got better and better.
So I would go with a couple of many peoples favourites
Rime of the ancient Mariner and Paschendale
I have watched this performance many times and have never had the audio imperfections you had might have been a copied version anyway just found your reactions today and been going through them and watching them at least the bands I recognize and enjoy thanks
The only musicians to wear they’re own merch🔥
The original studio version can be found on the 1981 album "The Number Of The Beast" IRON MAIDEN was originally started in 1975 with a different lead singer. Bruce became the lead singer in 1980.
Pure talent and energy Bruce is amazing at 65 years old still gives it 150 %
One of the few artists I recommend watching most of the songs live.
I cried when i listen this song alive.....the best song of Maiden!!!!
Austin, TX they had an actual plane come out hanging when they jammed Aces High 🤘💥
Iron maiden is just that amazing!
That is the Power of Heavy Metal Music , no Kidding or Boring
This band is my happy place! They are so fun!
I saw these guys for the 3rd or 4th time in Tacoma Washington in 2019 and they have not lost a bit of energy or stamina on stage! Maiden is one of my favorite bands and in fact I happened to be wearing a Maiden shirt today.
They are in their 70s now, and still on tour, seeing them in November
That was the last song of the last concert of their world wide tour in 2008 in Toronto. And for the plane, it's Bruce Dickinson himself who fly.
Uh no, the planes were leased and Bruce has retired from piloting
It's really cool to see a young lady become an Iron Maiden fan in an instant...way cool
Yet another reaction on YT to this version where Bruce was clearly tired. Rock in Rio from 2001 has to be the best one. Be sure to check it out.
Iron Maiden has not let up at all. In the past, some bands would just try to live off their past hits. Iron Maiden still puts in the work; their newest albums are great too.
For energy and stage presence, fear of the Dark is a must :)
YES they have their own plane "ed force one" AND the singer of the band is the pilote!
Go back to a video recorded live in the 80's for this song with a much better audio quality. This band has been my favorite since the late 70's.
This Song ( 1982 ) is 2023 41 years old and is still in the Liveset , all Member are older than 65 years
Maiden loves Canada, and Canada loves Maiden. Up the Irons! Loved your reaction!
Not only do they have their own plane (callsign: Ed Force One), but until recently, the vocalist Bruce Dickinson used to pilot it.
This was in 2008. I saw them last year. He still it's those notes.
So he spoke to his boss and he said “yes, but it’s coming out of your wages.”
So for that tour they leased a Boeing 757, converted to carry the additional cargo of the stage gear along with the band, crew, management, and a couple of film maker fans from Toronto (Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn) who filmed a documentary for the first leg of the tour (Flight 666), and occasionally Bruce would even fly the plane himself, as long as he wasn’t performing within 12 hours of that flight.
If this isn't played at my funeral, I'm not dying.
