O yeah, these guys are consummate musicians. They all have been honing their craft for literally decades, and it's plain to see that they practice _a lot._ Bruce Dickinson's vocals are always on-point, Steve Harris's and Dave Murray's guitar playing can elicit chills up the spine of anyone who isn't ready for it, and Nicko McBrain's percussion work never disappoints.
As to a suggestion, I recommend Iron Maiden's cover of Hocus Pocus (by Focus lol). The only vocals are done by Nicko 🤣
      🤟

    • @Arkryal

Yeah, though he held it for 14 seconds on this one. There's an older live show where he holds it for a full 28 seconds, enough that you can see a "WTF" expression on Harris' face as they kinda skip back in the song to keep things on track, lol. Though he did get 25 seconds at the end of this one, albeit at less of a belt and in a lower tone. Still insanely impressive, especially considering they usually play this one towards the later end of the show, or for an encore. He'd doing this after an hour or more of singing and his usual jumping-around-the-stage cardio workout, lol.
I just wish people would react to Bruce's solo stuff. Iron Maiden is great, but a little formulaic (which is a big part of their success)... lots of repetition and a catchy but simple hook makes the music accessible, especially for non-English speakers, one of their big demographics. But his solo stuff really shows off his vocals so much better, and in so many different styles.
These reactors don't know what he's really capable of until they've heard the following:
      Tattooed Millionaire
      Born in 58
      Ballad of Mutt
      Inertia
      Omega
      Taking the Queen
      The Chemical Wedding
      Killdevil Hill
I'm in a Band with an Italian Drummer
      1000 points of light
      Dracula
      Shoot all the clowns

Iron Maiden is on the bucket list. Was in Navy away when they did all these tours. The only singer I can think of similar is Jeff Tate (Queensryche) in his prime, Ronnie James Dio, James LaBrie (Dream Theater,) Ray Alder (Fates Warning).

Good of you to comment on the drummer: Nicko McBrain. He's fantastic, and unusual for a "metal" drummer in that he uses a single bass drum & pedal, but does patterns with one foot that many drummers struggle to match with two. Other pro drummers used to watch him backstage, he was so good.

Thanks for reacting to Iron Maiden! I think they surprise many people who know of them but have never heard them. Maiden isn’t the dark satanic death metal band they might think from their album covers. Maiden’s on stage musical cohesiveness during live shows is something to behold. Dickinson’s mastery of, not only his voice, but the audience is shocking. Seeing Iron Maiden live is isn’t just a viewing event. It’s an active participation in singing, screaming and jumping concert experience. One doesn’t need to like their music to have a good time at their show!

You mentioned the drummer, Nicko, 71 years old, suffered a stroke in January of 2023 which left him partially paralized. Through physical therapy he was able to back to about 70% when they went back on the road in early summer of 2023. He has continued to get better. Nicko is a great drummer. As for Iron Maiden, seeing them on video is great but actually seeing them live is amazing. The music, the lights, the pyro, Eddie the mascot, the crowd energy etc. And consider this, the song on this video is at the end of a 2 hour, high energy show from 2001. And in 2023, 22 years later, they are still putting on great, high energy shows.

  • @danpitzer765

Bruce is a legend. One of the things he made a point of when on tour is that he'd rollerblade around while singing in order to keep his vocal control sharp and his energy and stamina up. Which is why he sounds great after so many years. But if you hear him back in the 80's, it's absolutely jaw dropping.
As long as I can remember, it was basically considered a tossup for metal singers between Dickenson and Dio. Which I think sums up both of their prowess well.

Dude's 64 now and still sings like that. I'd say it's a healthy technique. Also if you want to know what a guy, who's been singing his whole life and might never get to sing again sounds like - check out "Empire of the Sky". Last song he recorded before telling his bandmates and getting treatment. Hits very hard when you know this context.

He was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 and recovered. He's still incredible. They were on tour last year. He is a commercial pilot, who flew for a commercial airline and flew their tour plane for years. He also was a winning competitive fencer. He's still involved with that also. You should read his book What Does This Button Do?

Look I can’t remember if I’ve already told you about Bruce, and Iron Maiden, but yeah Bruce has come through the other end of the biggest hurdle of his career and the band has been through a lot within the difficulties that have been overcoming the challenges that have been facing them over the years. Anyway Iron Maiden have sustained their success in every year they have been through…. ❤❤❤🇦🇺👏👏👏

It is Christmas time and I have a song from a group that formed the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The group is Savatage, and the singer is Jon Oliva and his brother on guitar Criss Oliva (RIP). An amazing guitarist and vocalist. I would recommend Hall of the Mountain King.

On your own, check out the 1982 live 'Beast Over Hammersmith' version of Hallowed Be Thy Name just for a bit of compare and contrast. I believe you'll see how great they were when they were young, but also how well they've held up these many years since, and even some things they've learned between then and now. For a suggestion, I seen you've never reacted to the Swedish band Opeth. They sing in English and as an 'introduction' I'd suggest "Harlequin Forest", specifically the live recording at "Royal Albert Hall". It is an 11 and a half minute long song, but it is worth every second. Actually, at the beginning of the video you'll get to hear from Opeth's vocalist Michael Akerfeldt's (Mikael in Swedish) meeting Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) before the song starts.

Obviously the live performances are epic and show how tight they are even after all these years, but I really think listening to the album version allows for you to hear his voice and the lyrics better. Even if you don’t do it for a video, I recommend listening to the original.
