We were learning about consent as kids in the 80's without it being in such a manner that explicitly mentioned sex or sexual activities.

Idk as a kid being around theatre I learned early about drag queens. I don’t get everyone’s obsession with kids and drag queens. Kids aren’t going to have a crisis not understanding things about others right away. Why is it so important they form their own opinion about a group of people who like dressing up feminine and having a character. Idk man, never felt sexual and I always felt safe personally around them. That’s the one thing I didn’t understand from this video

    • @lilpetz500
      @lilpetz500 5 місяців тому +22

Exactly. Sincere drag has been a staple of kids media for decades actually, male characters dressing up as high femme, exaggerated depictions of women (and the opposite too) for comedy, praise, storytelling, is a frequent trope of various live action kid shows and cartoons, notably Looney Tunes. Drag queens have been visible in advertising and media in public spaces for years, I remember a snack my Mum bought from the supermarket with Dame Edna on the pack for a promo as a little kid almost 15 years ago. Ursula, in a Disney movie, while a cis woman, performs, expresses, takes her likeness from a drag queen, functionally being as appropriate as an official one. In the 80s.
As a kid, I genuinely just wondered why these men were all pretty and sparkly and wanted us to address them like women when they are dressed up, then organically learned about what acting and performing is and reconciled it there. To be fair though, I also grew up in a school where the music teacher would demonstrate the clothing of the local historic festival by getting a boy and a girl volunteer in the class to dress up in the genderswapped garments over their uniforms, so there's my "indoctrination" I guess.
It's a case of an innocent issue we saw politicised and demonised by the right in the last few years in real time, yet that gets lost on people like this UA-camr (that or he gets that it's harmless but is willing to misrepresent it to avoid offending the right)

@TheTrumpReaper this right here, thanks for bringing her up specifically. I almost decided to mention Divine in my comment, but it was getting a bit long and it was hard not to go on about how incredible she is. Honestly, I would've loved to see them hire her onto the animated project in some way (though she unfortunately passed shortly before the film's release) Or at least have the live action Ursula actually take inspiration from Queens like her, and not the official statement of "her makeup is supposed to look bad on purpose" like no, she is based off a drag queen!? Some of the most skilled makeup artists imaginable?
Basically, it would probably be quite good for the creative development of kids for them to experience a version of drag based around child-friendly themes, you know, like storytime hours.
It's no more inappropriate than a cis lady dressed as a fairy reading books to kids or dancing and singing songs for them, or literally any sassy character in kids media. Scared their kids might emulate them? I guess classic theatre for kids is off the table too then, with the centuries of traditions in acting dramatic and sometimes conveying a character with a different gender expression.
I wonder if Shakespeare in schools is next on the conservative chopping block...
(Also, rad user name btw! At first I was worried you were like a "Reaper for enemies of Trump" or something, but then I got it)

Yeah, I respect the effort to try to report on the issues unbiased, but it's quite dangerous to both-sides the issues, especially when one side is notoriously more dishonest, systemically empowered, and with an agenda incompatible with innocent people. Plus, the coverage was not equal at all, the list of inappropriate education for the left was far more specific and elaborated on and included things like consent? One of the foundations of ethics, the way we ask responsibly for anything at any age, is inappropriate for kids? No sexual education is required to teach a kid about consent, it is not inherently sexual, even if it plays an important role in their future sexual experiences as adults. It's a demonstrated bipartisan issue that too many grown adults don't understand consent.
Meanwhile, the right gets their inappropriate topics listed on the same level as vaguely the content of Prager U...glossing right over how said content is blatant, frequently dihonest propaganda that instills ideas of heirarchies and harm of various communities based on their immuteable, harmless traits such as race, orientation, gender, ability, ethnicity etc. A platform that also attempts to teach the exact concepts the left is criticised for introducing too young, but twisted and misrepresented to establish them as negative instead. Plus downplaying the fact that Prager U is not the only one trying to push this harmful education on kids on the right, and the issue of the right also neglecting to teach and attempting to suppress a lot of information, refuse questions and discourage from asking them. Apparently just as bad as...telling kids that sometimes men dress up as sparkly, cartoonish women to analyse and perform the nuances of gender...of which the exposure to kids is moderated and tailored to be specifically the toned down, family friendly version of the art equivalent to hiring a mermaid or fairy actor for a kids party.
Man, you need to get "political" in discussions, when people's inherent, unchangeable identities, and basic concepts of ethics are being deemed "political." Centrism and centrist coverage is genuinely complacent of the side that is the aggressors, it feels like sell out behaviour to avoid offending a side that wants various innocent people dead or invisible.

...nope. I was literally just ace. Which I only started to see discussions on in my late teens, either in the content of the "left propagandists," or people claiming it to be just fake or even more hateful implications, and like 1 TV show when I was 20 just treating it like a normal thing. I thought I was horrible and unloveable, I tried to mentally groom myself into the idea I'll just have to be intimate in ways violating to me forever, and that it was just a normal part of growing up. That is the impact of not educating kids on the things that are considered "just getting too complex about queerness and making too many labels." I have a loosely comfy relationship with my gender, but I can only imagine what it's like to grow up trans considering my avoidable pain.
Calling this education "leftist propaganda" is like calling first aid "big pharma propaganda," or calling literacy lessons "Nationalist Propaganda" (since it can be considered about proper use and encouragement to use a certain dominant language, when really it's about effective communication and practical written skills for the society the student is in)

Dennis Prager has literally said that he wants to indoctrinate kids and that it’s not bad to indoctrinate them on what he wants to teach kids. I also find it very suspicious on how they don’t want kids to know about consent. Teaching kids that it’s okay to say “no” is a good thing. It’s also important for them to know what is inappropriate touching. People really need to teach their kids this, there would be for less CSA if that was the case.
I once heard a story about a young girl who was being sexually abused by her father and wasn’t able to tell anyone until she learned what consent was and what sexual behavior was.
It’s also telling how all these right-wingers point fingers at drag queens and LGBTQ people for being child sexual abusers and pedophiles, when statistically the right-wingers themselves are more likely to be abusers.

As someone who was a My Little Pony fan at 10-13 (I wouldn't really say I was part of the fandom bc I wasn't allowed any social media at the time, Alhamdulillah), I narrowly dodged the entire CAVALRY. Not just a bullet. I've seen some super traumatizing stuff at the time, and since my brain was so underdeveloped at the time, I let my curiosity get the better of me and actively sought this stuff out on UA-cam. I was aware at the time that fully grown adults were part of the fandom, but I didn't fully understand why (I do understand now ESPECIALLY as an adult). I don't remember the incident that made me stop looking for this stuff altogether, but a catalyst to that was my younger sister walking in on me watching one of these videos, and running out of the room, crying. Since then, I stuck to the actual show, and lemme tell you, THAT was therapeutic, especially after that freakshow
Recently, I've stumbled across some wholesome Pony fan content, and even as an adult, I was mentally preparing myself for something gruesome to happen, and after looking through the comments, there were a few people who were doing this too.
So lesson of the story: Parents, caregivers, anyone else who works with kids in any capacity, PLEASE be mindful of what kids watch. PLEASE don't give your kids unlimited access to the internet. I implore you to be vigilant with this kind of stuff. The internet has become even more of a minefield than it was back then. I know people have called the internet in the late 2000s to the early 2010s the Wild West era, but nowadays, I think this kind of thing has become more and more sophisticated, and these big companies can only do so much. Inappropriate things can slip under the radar and these kids will find them. I cannot stress this enough

I cannot imagine what life would be like if I knew about what it means to be trans/lgbt as a kid, and not grow up so damn lost. It'd been great to have actual role models I could connect with.
Queer folk are born queer. Having queer informed information and representation growing up helps, and having good representative to non-queer children is necessary also as otherwise bullying tends to occur for gender non-confirming behaviour.
Drag queens are not inherently sexual, postive queer role models, including drag queens for future drag queens, are important. That being in the army and killing people can be considered a role model is considered fine, but wearing a dress is not is sad hilarious. The fear mongering around it is just pure bigotry.
I hate that my rights and existence is considered "political", and that bigotry keeps getting excused.
We just want to exist and live healthy lives.

Personally I don't think children under the age of 12 should be given internet access, at least not without heavy monitoring and restrictions,
When I was a kid, I had to ask permission to use the computer, and I was given child friendly sites to visit, and games to play. And at most, I was allowed maybe 2 hours a day. The computer was in our living room, and later, in a home office with another computer my parents used.
That is how you let kids use the internet, don't give them tablets and smartphones.

I've followed his channel previously and some of his recent addresses, he is indeed a just weird guy going through some difficult times.
He has retracted those big yikes stances on Turning Red and C0vid 19 masking since, opening up about how he's been battling with severe OCD for a while and has become constantly quite cynical and irritable trying to cope with the condition.
His stances and the impact of them absolutely deserve critique, and he does get a bit too heated about some pretty minor problems in cartoons, but he doesn't seem like a terrible person.
I can actually credit him as one of the first people to teach me about the harms of Autism Speaks as a kid, with him being an autistic creator who critiqued that one abhorrent ad they made that demonises the condition as some sadistic, manipulative force that ruins your child.
Additionally, on that point with what Turkey Tom said about him, 16 is too old to say he didn't know better than to accuse a person of pa3dophilia based exclusively on enjoying cartoons/writing 100% unsexualised stories based around growing up. Mr Enter is also literally aro/ace, and if I remember correctly, sex repulsed, which I'm pretty sure is personal info he's opened up on in a relevant discussion about media sexualisation, before Turkey Tom's attack.
