Being part jewish myself, the first story infuriates me. I don't get how people can be this shitty without getting imprisoned or harmed in an act of mob justice.
That's what I'm thinking. The internet is capable of really, REALLY heinous things, like life-ruining things. And there are way too many stories of innocent lives being ruined because of trolls on the internet. And then there are people like this, really actual evil people like Mizzy, who get nothing but clout, which is exactly what they want. Why isn't anyone acting?

glad you talked about deletion data. one of my PRIVATE tiktok videos of me showing off my weight loss progress got taken down for “self harm” reasons. even though in the video my arm and thighs have SCARS. very much healed scars. and they took down my video. absolutely disgusting i was so furious.
edit: thank you for the support. one thing i would like to mention is my scars are hypertrophic which means they appear red and puffy. which could be the reason my video got taken down. even though i’m over 3 months clean, my scars might be detected as fresh cuts by tiktoks bot system. either way i tried to get my video back but they wouldn’t let me and gave my account a warning. absolutely unacceptable.

I´m not that much into conspiracy here but the fact that so many challenges from tiktok that are ending with multiple deaths kinda makes me believe that it´s not safety why tiktok is deleting stuff.
the tiktok challenges that result in injury/death do get removed. the only reason the trends continue is bc mainstream media brings attention to it. the benadryl challenge is a perfect example of this- there wasn’t any deaths connected to the challenge until fox and CNN started talking about it. at the time, i was on tiktok no joke five hours a day and never saw a video about the benadryl challenges
TikTok sometimes doesn’t delete anything related to some of these dangerous challenges but is willing to delete serious topics and any videos related to certain countries .
And I’m sure many others say this with the countries who were “deleted “ off of TikTok.

As much as I understand and possibly support TikTok deleting content, I think it would be better handled like on Instagram, where misinformation gets a tag and notifies viewers before watching the content.
This way there is still free speech, but children will be notified that the information is factually incorrect.
I almost think the company hiring influencers did this to only show the level of ignorance and lack of intelligence with some of these influencers

Given that the vast majority of platforms enforce strict rules that disproportionately punish minorities and the truth and we can all call it out as problematic and harmful without yelling that we're being censored, I don't think "people lying and/or spreading extremely harmful misinformation" finally getting their content restricted is really gonna make me cry that much *shrugs*. Society as a whole has been calling for platforms to actually do something about the harm they cause, that's why we have fact checker messages under facebook posts and youtube videos now.

In regards to the situation with TikTok removing videos: As an active TikTok creator I can tell you that videos sometimes get removed for total nonsense. Mass reports of something can cause a video to get automatically removed, or even including keywords in a video can cause it to get taken down and/or your account to get "shadowbanned" where all of your new videos are only shown to followers for a period of time. These shadowbans can last weeks, months, or even be permanent depending on the type of content you post and how regularly you post, and it's incredibly common to get shadowbanned for even posting a joke comment on something, even if the comment is not harmful in the slightest and only includes a keyword that the ban system is looking for at that particular moment. (This has happened to me several times).
As for their reports system, 2 hours is a gross underestimation of how long it takes for someone to review a report. Sometimes it can take upwards of a week, with some reports sitting in limbo for up to a month before something is done. Sure, most reports are actioned in less than 24 hours, and it does actually seem to get placed in front of a real person when you report something, but there are cases where downright disturbing content like videos containing graphic injury/death are just left up on the platform for weeks on end, still getting placed in the feeds of millions, only for the report to get denied. Sometimes report outcomes are just downright falsified. There have been several sounds on TikTok where the audio is just a racial slur clearly repeated over and over again for a minute straight that have been reported and marked as "removed", but then you scroll down in your feed and find 3 videos in a row using the same audio that was previously noted as banned. They are lying to our faces, and I'm sure their report "statistics" are falsified to save face.

Once I start seeing/hearing a brand pop up on YT I'm immediately suspicious. It's not unlike the old days of seeing an ad for "as seen on tv" items, call an 800-number or mail in your order. Might be a scam, might not. Obviously the items were rarely on par with their advertisements.

Okay so fun fact, in 2022 I dressed up as dave strider for halloween, and if you don't know dave strider has blonde short hair, sunglasses, and wears baggy pants and a baseball shirt with a cd on it. Now, whilst Homestuck used to be massive, it's died down a lot since its release, and thus most people at my school didn't know who I was...but they did know about the jeffrey dahmer netflix show, and ig he has short blonde hair, sunglasses, and wore baseball shirts (i didnt watch it so yeh)...so everyone at my fucking school thought I was jeffrey dahmer, and I got asked like ten fucking times :,). I wanted to cry too cuz dave strider's one of my favorite fictional characters and I was so happy to dress up as him. At least one person recognize who I was tho, and wanted a photo with me which was cool, but yeh the third story just like gave me flashbacks to that 💀

someone please explain that shein influencer that they didn't underpay her because she's a content creator and, to the eyes to the company, more valuable than a factory worker. simple as that. i absolutely hate when creator who want to be advocate for social issues cherry-pick the issues they care about. if you care about fatphobia, you should also care about workers conditions and the damage fast fashion is doing not only to their employers but the planet. at least that's how I see it, you cannot choose between the two of them, especially if you work in the fashion industry.
It's not a violation of free speech. TikTok is a company and as such they can handle the content released through their service as they please. It's weird people even make a fuss about something like this. Of course they (TikTok) have all the right to ban orr not ban any material they think is against *their* company policies. If a user doesn't like their decisions, the user can always leave the platform.
The problem with true crime, certainly when the killer isn't alive, people don't see the issue with fictionalising them. I like true crime but you have to bear in mind that these were real people and real victims and it still needs treating with respect however many years have gone by.
