I had to come back to find this video to say thank you! My cat was throwing up multiple times a day for 7 days straight. 4 days ago I gave him 2.5 mg of Pepcid. A few hours later I gave him some canned food and he gobbled it right up. I gave him another dose the next morning. He hasn’t thrown up once since his first dose and he seems like he’s back to his normal self, and he’s back to cuddling on his favorite chair with our other cat which is great to see. You’ve saved me hundreds in vet bills and the stress it was going to bring my cat to be brought into the vet’s office. I’ve never been more thankful for a UA-cam video.

Dr Jones, appreciate your openness as a vet, offering home remedies is something so rare and generous to do as a vet. My cat is a long hair junk lover (specially dry bamboo leaves). He historically vomited chewed leaves and hair ball (regardless of daily brushing). Recently he was suddenly lethargic one afternoon, took him to ER after xray, blood test, ultrasound he was diagnosed w pancreatitis and hospitalized. While he is back to his normal shenanigans after release, still chronic vomiting stays. I have some cerenia on hand but even though his pancreas function and every single blood test is back to normal I never got an answer for why he still vomits. At some point I was concerned abt his esophagus so inclined his bowl so he extend his head upward. He is on hill ZD too. Tbh I never said no a test but after not getting a conclusive answer and minimum care given from some vets I feel taken advantage of and more like an ATM to them, and is very frustrating. I am really thankful to see caring vets like you.

Change the food , don't give kibbles, make your own cat food, check Dr. Jones how yo make cat food. May be bamboo leaves are toxic to cats, grow grass indoors for winter months when the cat can't go outside to find grass that is what we do. Check the list of houseplants and outdoor plants that are toxic to pets . Our cat hates science Hill products from the vet. She will not eat it .

Thank you so much for this video. My 11 year old cat has been vomiting daily for months and I tried many homeopathic remedies that did not work. I started with the pepcid and removed kibble and all sea food and she is now on a mixture of canned beef, turkey, and raw food and it has been an amazing. No more vomiting and she appears more energized. Bless you!

I adopted my cat from a rescue group who had only had her a short time. At my home, after her first meal of canned food she began throwing up.
Soon she needed a vet, and many tests. What i was told was that she has a problem with the rugae in her stomach. He said as long as she eats and can keep her food in, she will be all right.
I changed her dry food to a more easily digestable formula. She gradually got better.

Hey, I need some advice on my cat, he’s throwing up, or coughing up blood. I recently got him treated for a urinary blockage, and then two weeks later a UTI. What can I do? I called the ER and of course, they’re all about the money so they’re acting concerned wanting me to bring him in.

Another reason why is that your cat is eating quickly, you can tell your cats is eating too much too quick if the vomit is undigested food. A way to solve this is to give them a plate or platter instead of a cat bowl, and spread the food out evenly

my cat used to do that a lot when i fed him twice a day, but that is regurgitation not vomiting. try raising the bowl and give smaller more frequent meals of wet food. my cat now gets 4 meals a day and rarely ever regurgitates.

    • @ReggieWhite15
      @ReggieWhite15 5 років тому +7

I agree with everyone here on the fast eating cause. My Cat has had the vomit issue for a few weeks. He also had issues with constipation so I went to the Vet. $75 later I went home with a similar product this Vet showed (Tuna flavored Vasoline). I witnessed my Cat scoff down his food last night and proceed to barf all of it all over the house. He finished with what appeared to be regurgitating bile with a little bit of fur in it. Not that much fur to make him barf his entire meal up. And I also noticed the wet food was primarily intact, he inhales vs chews. Hoping this is all that is wrong with my 11 YO Tuxedo because other times of the day he is full of energy and a snuggle bear.

I thought my cat was vomiting because he was eating to fast but if you give your cat food with alot of by product instead of raw food or meat it is hard for them to digest...my cat doesn't want to eat anything else but he was throwing it up almost after every meal.

you do the best job of demonstrating how to do any given technique. seriously, you do it slow enough that it's recognizable to the untrained eye what you're doing, and you explain well also. This may sound stupid, but could you show an up close demonstration of how to trim a cat's nails? I know I'm not supposed to cut "the quick" but unfortunately for me almost the entire nail looks the same to me. thank you

    • @larsonfamilyhouse
      @larsonfamilyhouse 11 місяців тому +1

I wish someone would do an up close slow motion video of this! I finally have a pretty good idea what’s what but I agree that it’s super hard to tell! Next time you go to the vet you can have them show you and take pics before and after to compare. What I do is cut in line with the bottom and cut the hook part off that way. I also don’t do the back feet because that quick is way more crazy! Lol just cut a little and do it more often rather than a large amount every once in awhile. Cut just tip once a month or something. Maybe a groomer at petco could show you if you have one:)

Hi Doc. My poor boy, Guggi, threw up his breakfast (twice) and continued for every 3 hours or so. I have 5 cats and always look for "natural" remedies, so I took to the web and found your video. I tried the catnip that I had on hand but he continued and I was getting worried. So, I ran to Whole Foods late afternoon and picked Arsenicum album and started giving to him every couple of hours. Around 8:30pm was the last time he threw up and he was quiet for the night. He seemed interested in eating in the morning so I gave him a pellet about 20 minutes before his meal. He threw it all up like 30 seconds later, so I thought maybe he had an obstruction and ordered some Vaseline. But when we tried again about an hour later and he kept it down. Now he's back to his old self. YAY! Thank you SO much for your video! I was dreading the thought of having to potentially take him to the vet. I also found a post where someone gave her cat Nuv vomica, so I ordered that and have that on hand as well. I've listened to some of your other videos and appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. I want you to know that you're helping people like me.

He's overdue for his shave and has been vomiting today violently. We have to get him in to be checked. They had to do a enema when he was blocked last time. I just gave him a bit of butter. He hasn't eaten it yet. I just gave him hairball remedy and put down some pure olive oil and plenty of water. He drank a lot of water a few hours ago and vomited profusely! It will be a LONG night!!

I can't thank you enough, Doctor - for your suggestion to try 1/4 of a 20mg Famotidine table (aka. OTC Pepcid or Pepcid AC) to help alleviate daily vomiting of food shortly after eating (and vomiting of clear liquid most mornings). My 18 year old female cat, had been projectile vomiting (shortly after meals) for almost a year. I feed my cat breakfast at 7am. Virtually every morning, I have awaken to discover that she left a considerably-sized pool (about 4" to 6" in diameter) of clear liquid (sometimes foamy) on the kitchen floor (not very far from her dishes for food and water). I have taken her to the vet, and described these symptoms. My local vet ran various tests, and found nothing wrong (no medications were prescribed) and no further tests were suggested - but the vet did note that my cat was now underweight (compared to her last checkup). I have tried many different high-quality wet and dry foods. I'm 70 years old, and I assure you that I spend more time reading the labels of my cat's food - than I do in analyzing my own food. No soy, no grain, no fillers, no artificial colorings, and no meat by-products of any form. She ate them readily - but would vomit soon afterward...and still leave the pool of clear liquid on the kitchen floor every morning. The after-eating vomiting was always worst - right after she ate breakfast...and would lessen considerably later in the day. Since trying the Famotidine, the morning vomiting of clear liquid has stopped, as has the projective vomiting of food shortly after meals. I am now giving her a very-small "maintenance dose" of approximately 1/8 of a 20 mg Famotidine tablet daily (disguised in a small cheese ball, of course). I am hoping that this very low dosage will be sufficient to provide long-term benefit - if not, I will resume giving her 1/4 of the 20 mg Famotidine tablet. Once, again, thank you so much for your excellent practical advice to resolve this problem!

Thank you so much doctor. My cat vomit at least six times on one day and I was so worried and about to take her to the animal ER but saw this video and your other video regarding the same issue. I was suspecting hair balls because my cat is a long hair tuxedo and she sheds a lot. Also, I got a new kitten and I gave both the caned cat food that is for kitten and adults, while I used to give her the adult cat food before. It appears that her stomach did not take it well. I did the tests first as you recommended then I gave her the vaseline for hairball and the pepcid from the other video. It only took less that 48 hours and she became better. She used to not eat at all but after the first dose of vaseline, she immediately wanted to eat. I also stopped feeding her kitten and adults caned food. Thank you so much.

that orange cat is exactly like my orange cat. even his look . he also allows people to handle him easily. my cat wants to eat . i feed him some smoked scliced ham, after 5 minutes he vomits all . after an hour cat cries for food. i fed him a smaller portion of ham. this time he did not vomit. an hour earlier he pooped liquid excrement. now he is quiet for the moment.

I can't afford to take my cat to a vet. Her name is Flower. She's 19 years old like myself and I've had her for my entire life and vice versa. She's always had diarrhea with a bit of blood in it but she never had any other issues. She never threw up unless it was a hairball. The vets never noticed anything. But now for the past three weeks she's been acting like I do with GERD. She's been dry heaving and her meow sounds different. However her meow has sounded different for about a year, but in the past three weeks it's even worse. I can hear her breathing now. It sounds super scratchy. She isn't losing hair or anything. We've always fed her dry food but we feed her some soft food about once or twice every one to two weeks. I noticed that she throws up whenever she drinks milk but she has more normal poop. Whenever she's dry heaving, sometimes pure stomach acid comes out. It's just a few drops of clear liquid. I don't know if she's in pain but she isn't growling or being irritable. But then again, she's never complained when in extreme pain. Whenever she had fractured her pelvis, she never cried or bit, scratched or growled. She only cried at the door limping to get our attention for help. She didn't do anything or complained when I picked her up and we took her to the vet. So she might be in pain and she's just refusing to let it be known. I don't know what to do. She is pretty old but in really good shape. She still hunts and catches birds. She still plays with strings and me. So I'm just really afraid she's getting close to passing. I really need help.

    Thanks Doc!
Am getting some Pepcid and hopes it helps. The stray outdoor, and indoor a lot more than before, is throwing up clear, runny stuff. And has a bit of dry heaving.
I bought him some treats he absolutely loves called Temptations Catnip. Stopped giving him anymore yesterday because I'm suspecting this may be the cause.
For him to lay on my lap and sleep up against me is also telling because he usually doesn't.
He's not dehydrated, so that's good.
    Thanks again!

Came looking for and explanation and a solution for my kitty's acute episodes of vomiting. She has been very healthy. And I think that I agree with you. It started after giving her Whole hearted crunch treat catnip flavor. I've stopped it but the vomiting continues. She vomits after small meals and waiting 1/2 hour before offering small amount of water. Will try the chamomile reevaluate and the Pepcid if needed. Fortunately, she is not dehydrated. Thank you. Anything else I should do before the vet?

I have a yellow fluffy male cat 13 years old. He looks like your cat! Normally my kittys (I have 2) have 9 lives cat food, occasional hairball but never vomit. I gave him 1/2 can of fancy feast (a Freind gave it to me) I thought it would be a nice treat. He threw up 3 times, brown in color. He is staying still, acting unusual for him. He won’t eat or drink. If he does not improve I will take him to the vet. I’m hoping it’s just the food that disagreed with him. This video was helpful. Thank you.

My cat appears to have nausea. She tries to eat, but then appears to want to vomit. She uses her paws as if she wants to get something out of her mouth. It has been for 3 days now.
Problem is that she had this (same symptoms, same behavior) before (Jan-2021). Then I went to the vet. She (the vet) gave my cat antibiotics via injection. At first, she recovered somewhat, but then she fell back again. Eventually, she recovered. In total, it lasted 10 days that she did not eat or drink at all. I had her blood checked, and all was OK. She did not have any diseases.
So then in Aug 2021 I went to the vet again because she suddenly missed 1 upper front tooth. Apparently she had an accident, and it broke off (she is an outside cat, formerly a stray cat). Then I had her teeth checked and cleaned, and her teeth were in good condition (except for the tartar, which was removed). The vet said that cats do not usually have cavities like people do. So when she was sick she used her paws as if she wanted to get something out of her mouth. But this was not related to anything stuck in her throat or her teeth because this was all checked.
So now she is having the same symptoms as in Jan-2021. I am hesitant to go to the vet again. It is a lot of stress because my cat is a former stray cat and does not like to be carried around. When I had her teeth done she also needed to have anesthetic and it almost killed her. Because the symptoms are the same as in Jan-2021 I think the treatment will also be the same.
I give her the best foods and fresh water, she can be in and outside when she wants so it is frustrating that one cannot know what is the matter. She is a Snowshoe cat. Quite uncommon that such a cat was abandoned by the owner since she eventually walked to my house. But she seems quite a weak cat. I have other (former) stray cats here which are all European shorthair cats that are sort of native to this area and they never have problems.
If you start analyzing the problem on the internet, it could be anything. The blood tests in Jan-2021 did not reveal some illness. When she came to me I had her sterilized (this was 2013) and that vet also found she had the peritoneum (not sure this is the right word) torn/ruptured. It is the tissue that holds the intestines together was torn. It was operated on then but possibly these initial operations in 2013 caused her to have weak health.

I've found much good info listening to you, but as I was listening your tips for vomiting I was alarmed by the chomomile and peppermint as i am positive the first os toxic to cats and ive heard conflicting information about pepermint. I will research and collect more facts. if im wrong i will update.

I appreciate this video. I have a long haircut that's a nervous wreck in ever since his companion passed away he's been chewing even more of his fur off. I think that's why he is vomiting. He seems to love coconut oil and I read that it was okay for him to have a quarter teaspoon a day. I've been cautious because he'll get diarrhea off and on because again he is a nervous wreck. I tried and comfort him constantly however there must be something deep-seated that I can't control. I used to give my cat's a little vaseline just because they were interested in it cuz I put it on my lips all the time. When I got coconut oil started begging for it they absolutely love it. Thanks to your video I'm going to try that a little bit more before I take him to the vet which is a whole nother Adventure! Bloody Adventure

Awe cute cat. My cat sometimes vomits after she eats. I though it might of been the cat food. I’ve tried sensitive kind and she still does. I wet the dry food and even tried can food from Sheba to fancy feast. My cat has been coughing I noticed lately. Could it be distemper? Would get vitamins do good? You have great info. Our cat is a monster and very healthy, according to you, she passes all tests, she’s 5 yrs old and in the last 4 yrs we have introduced a younger male cat about 1.5 yrs old, they get along well, sleep together , then we introduced about 6 months ago a 5 month old female who now has kittens …. She has gotten along with the kitten as well… she’s very good natured, friendly, leaves her fur behind showing no hairballs…. She tells us she’s hungry all the time tho they are all fed only 3X a day ….. my question is, could this be a form of competition when eating with the other cats…. She’s not a counter cat stealing our food.. none of the cats like human food.. thnx very much, margauxvarleyhannigan
