My 12 year old cat just passed away yesterday. He was vomiting for almost a week (probably once or twice every day or 2, but got worse over the weekend). I thought it was because he ate too fast or because he ate something he shouldn’t. I took him to the vet office and they thought it was because of parasites or an infection. I wasn’t happy with that and went to another vet for a second opinion. They thought it was an intestinal obstruction, but after some tests it turned out to be eosinophilic enteritis, the intestines were so swollen that nothing passed through. The vets took a piece of his intestines but my cat didn’t recover after the surgery, as the tissue was too fragile because of the inflammation 💔 please, take care of your cats and don’t ever think it is normal for them to vomit, better take them to the vet for a check
Surprised hairballs weren’t mentioned as a cause. Definitely my cat’s main problem, every mess on the floor has a hairball in it. I brush her more now and add water to her wet food to turn it into a sort of soup, which has really helped her. ❤️
My cat regularly brings up furballs especially during the warmer summer months even tho I brush her regularly. She has just turned 14 and has always been fed dry food in the morning which she tends to snack on until lunchtime and wet food at night. I also give her the occasional treat (especially after clipping her nails lol)
@@RomanoPRODUCTION Go slow with me here, I'm not an expert in cat anatomy, even though she addressed regurgitation vs vomiting, and this video was about vomiting, is regurgitation not from the stomach/intestines but esophagus/mouth? I've seen some pretty wet chunk blows from cats that was obviously a pretty large hairball, along with some violent spasms for them to eject it. My recent new batch of itty bitty kitty committee has one that definitely appears from not liking a certain brand of kibble. She doesnt seem to hurl when we switch to a different brand.
One of my cats was vomiting several times a day for a long time. During that time I took him in for several tests at the vet but no one could pinpoint the problem. They thought it was just caused by his hyperthyroidism although he was getting his meds twice a day. One vet finally looked at all of the tests and came to the conclusion that the only thing it could be was intestinal lymphoma...cancer of the intestines. My poor Kitty was throwing up black vomit because of blood in his vomit. He was getting thinner and thinner and thinner. I'm so grateful to that vet for putting all the puzzle pieces together and figuring out what was wrong. I had a service come in who could euthanize him here at home while I was holding him. He was a dear sweet kitty cat and I miss him.
I have a 17 year old cat. He is so sick. Lost weight. It's a internal thing kidneys I'm sure. He's lost some teeth. Mr Ritter, is his name. Such a informer he's been. Inside cat. All 5 are fixed tagged shots. Through PAAC. How much does euthanize in a home setting cost. And what is it called. Mr Ritter would like that, becuz he would be with his 4 other furry friends. He's close to his time.
@@lauriehudson9493 it was about 4 years ago when I got my Oscar euthanized at home. The vet who came to my home was from a company called Caring Pathways. The euthanasia was about $500 but that also included his cremation, and his ashes to be returned to me. If you look up "home veterinary euthanasia services" or call some of your local vets I'm sure you'll be able to find a service that will come out at the appointed time that you give them and walk through the process with you and put Mr Ritter to sleep. My heart goes out to you. I know how hard it is to part with such a dear friend. Let me know how you do with that okay?
I'm so sorry for your loss. Must have been really tough and still would be because there's nothing you can do to forget them. What were the initial symptoms? Was it really vomiting a few times in a day or was it vomiting more than twice a month but only once a day? I mean were the symptoms really that bad since the beginning?
I just got pathology results today. My 14 year old cat, Marley, has early Tcell Lymphoma. I’m devastated. But I will keep him comfortable and spoil him with love 💕
Eating kibble and drinking water straight after can cause vomiting/regurgitation. The reason is that due to the water the ingested kibble expands and overfills the stomach. Changing to wet food can resolve this common problem.
The news is saying now that cats should never eat kibble. It will shorten their lives for what they have in it. So if you love your cats quit feeding them kibble or dry food especially from the big pet food industries. In case some of you don't know this, their sinister plan to cull humans from the planet also includes our pets who they say are only living half the years they have in the past. Going from somewhere around 17 yrs to about 9 now!?
this is very informative! My cat a few years back, my cat was throwing up a bit more than normal. Took him to the vet, turned out he was allergic to seafood or had a seafood sensitivity. Changed his food and he's done so much better! His anxiety has even improved
I started watching, thinking "This is so timely," only to have to pause to clean up cat vomit! A huge amount of information! Thank you, Doc, for your wonderful, informative posts!
My cat started vomiting continuously one morning. Was crying like he was in pain. Over the previous months he had been vomiting a couple times a week. Once the acute vomiting started I took him right into the vet. They gave him fluids antibiotics, and antiemetic and send us home. He vomited a few more times at home and then continued to cry and drool ALOT. Took him back the next morning for more fluids. He wouldn’t eat or drink for 3 days. Finally the vet decided keeping him and running some test was in order. After an ultrasound, the vet called me and said they found a huge mass in the abdomen and he would need surgery right away. Turned out he had a huge abscess caused by acute pancreatitis. They kept him as long as they could there for IV fluids and antibiotics...about 3 days. After that he was feeling a bit better and would not let the staff near him. I took him home and stayed up with him 24/7, trying to get him to eat or drink. It took several days but finally he would take little bites of food. Once he was eating a but, several days later , he slowly started to drink water. It’s been several months now and he is his normal self. I can’t imagine...if I had waited...he wouldn’t have made it. So, it’s always good to taken them in just to be sure.
hi, my cat has the same symptoms are your cats, but they weren't that severe. He started to stop eating for 3 days, so i brought him to the vet. They did over all exam, Blood draw, X-ray, but they couldn't find anything. I brought him home, he didn't want to eat until the 3rd day of applied ointment on his ears; they were prescribed by the Vet. Today 08/28 , he vomited 2 times. His stools were soft, not liquid. The Vet recommended me to bring him to the ER. I'm still thinking.....
Try switching their regular tap water to bottled water "distilled" or "purified". My cats stopped the oh so very often vomiting after switching their water. Now the female vomits only when she anxious and eat more than her stomach would hold. The male passed last week he was 15.5 yrs old. After the switch he only vomited only if I took too long to give him his fresh serving of dry food. The female will eat the food after it has been in the bowl for hours. But the male was very demanding.
Excellent video! Thanks especially for explaining the distinction between regurgitation and vomiting. My 14-year-old cat does both. She sometimes regurgitates her food. She has some issues with chronic vomiting which my vet and I have been working on for over a year with some success. Her labs have been good. She's due for them again next month. She does better on rabbit and sardine proteins, which aren't available where I live so I have to order online. I do have anti-nausea medicine when the chronic vomiting kicks up, and something to encourage her to eat when she is refusing food. We're still trying to fine-tune all of this, but we're making progress. She's healthier than she was a year ago. Thank you for this video. I just found your channel and will be checking in.
My 2yrs old ginger kitty is throws up his food several times a week. I will now remove him from the other kitties and feed him in another closed off room then let him out an hour later. Thanks for your help. He’s definitely the Omega cat in the group, so I hope this helps.
Thank you for explaining this so clearly! A few months ago, my cat was having issues regurgitating over the course of a week. She'd regurgitate infrequently before this (sometimes she eats too fast) but never so close together. Took her to the vet and a blood test showed dehydration and a slight issue with the pancreas. We couldn't determine if this caused her symptoms, or if it's a byproduct of her regurgitating. But we treated the symptoms and thankfully she did get better!
Feed your cat a high quality food. My little tortie female kitty was hanging around outside my house for a week or two, getting cat prints all over my car in the carport. Neighbors thought she was a stray/somebody dumped her as well. One day I have a dead mouse on my doormat lol. Couple days later she started crying at my door. Went out there, petted her, picked her up, then opened the front door and she bolted straight inside. Fed her a whole can of tuna, she literally sat on me for the next 48 hours, well now I have a cat lol. At first bought some cheap Meow Mix at the grocery, didn't know if I was going to keep her. Noticed she was a bit gassy, laying on my chest/neck in the bed I could hear her little guts grumbling. Fed her that till I ran out and decided to keep her. Bought some good quality dry food from the local pet store. Instantly noticed she wasn't gassy, never heard her gut grumbling again, turds were smaller. Just crazy how much of a difference I could tell by switching her to high quality food. And high quality dry kibble isn't that expensive, $15 for a 10lb bag that lasts a good 3 weeks or so.
We tried every blood test, x-ray, abdominal scan, anti nausea, appetite stimulant, special prescription diet but my poor kitty still kept vomiting and loosing weight. He’s always been a picky eater, lots of choking, difficulty swallowing. He has a heart arrhythmia and had lots of gum inflammation and tarter on his tiny baby kitten teeth, is also missing, never developed his large back molars, which makes chewing a challenge. All seemed to me that he had some kind of esophagus inflammation. I kept watch closely, we tried so many things. I have GERD, it looked to me like his symptoms were so similar, choking on food, frothy bubbly spit up if he didn’t eat, then finally just refusing to eat and loosing weight. I researched and sure enough some kitties have acid reflux! Sent several articles to our vet, she agreed to try him on compounded Pepcid/famotidine. It was compounded at a local speciality pharmacy in liquid form with tuna flavoring, 1mg every 24th hours. I use a syringe to squirt just 1/2 a dose(.05ml) into his mouth before his 1st meal in the morning and the other half 12 hours later, right before last meal of the day. At first I fed him whenever he was hungry, four or five times a day, moist canned and also dry kibble, low fat meals. After only 5 days on Pepcid he’s eating like a champ, running, playing and happily rubbing around my legs and wanting to cuddle. No more throwing up, he’s gaining weight, no more anti nausea or appetite stimulant needed. Here’s some research regarding the use of acid reducers in cats, hope this helps your kitty 😽: petstruggles.com/pepcid-for-cats/ catcentric.org/care-and-health/the-problems-with-pepcid-and-other-antacids/
Hi, is your kitty recovered fully from vomitting? My kitty too went through all the checkup at various vets with no solutions. Still looking for answer as she is still vomitting every morning before breakfast for the past 6 months
I don,t know your cats weight but vet secrets said 2.5 mg dose I think 2x daily . I buy the 10mg pepscid cut it in 4 with a pill cutter so each piece is 2.5 put it in a demitasse spoon in unflavored applesauce, justlay the pill on top of the applesauce open his mouth and slide the applesauce into his mouth, , so it works fine.he eats the I and love and you catfood but only the chicken overnight he goes back and forth when he wants, I think if he ate the whole thing he would vomit, he is about 9 pounds
Kris Yona- I agree. If I decide to get a kitten. I will ask my vet to show me how to trims its claws. Then I will use that money to buy pet insurance. Just one course of lab tests would probably cover that cost.
Thank you for all that detail and what I found to be a very clear explanation. Even though you don't intend your videos to substitute for a live vet visit/care, your videos are like a no-cost consult and provide valuable guidance for cat owners. A great example is explaining the difference between regurgitation and vomiting. You provide a starting point, with information to be considered so one doesn't have to go into a vet visit completely unprepared. I appreciate your taking the time to share your knowledge and experience this way!
Brush your cat often, give him/her 1/8 to 1/4 tsp Slippery Elm powder mixed in wet food. Just open a capsule and use. My holistic vet suggested it and it works!
Okay, this is a very useful video. Almost every cat I've had has regurgitated its food. I was classing that as vomiting, which I now see it was not. Near my house there's a new cat on the block, whom I thought was a stray, until I realised he belonged to a neighbour. Cat scarfed down a whole pouch of food in seconds with absoutely no indication he was going to regurgitate his grub. Eye opener as my female cats alternated between being picky eaters, or starvers with inevitable results.
My cat vomited about once or twice a month for some time. Then we got a new kitten who chased her and her vomiting became daily. She also started losing weight. I thought it was stress. We gave her anti nausea meds and an appetite stimulant. But it continued. Then the vet did a scan and found she had a growth on her liver. The vet recommended exploratory surgery, with the goal of maybe removing the mass. When she opened her up, it was everywhere and it was almost certainly cancer. So she was put to sleep before she ever woke up. Never take vomiting lightly. Get a thorough workup on your precious baby.
I'm so sorry. Our fur babies are part of us and having one that is so ill and knowing there's nothing to be done is heartbreaking. Again, I'm sorry. I wish I could hug you.
The moral of this story: take your cat to the vet, where millions tests will be performed, and after multiple bills still no solution. My cat had a stroke and emergency vet prescribed painkiller and eye drops! No joke!
This was super helpful and enlightening. I was not aware of the difference between vomiting vs. regurgitation. I would love to have a video on megaesophagus / regurgitation. Because of this video I now know that my cat might have megaesphagus but not very severe. I would say he does this maybe twice a month. So I would love to see what I could do to possibly help him.
Yes! I have a cat that I inherited from a friend after she had to rehome him, and he used to regurgitate food a lot. I thought it was vomiting but he never seemed very concerned or affected afterward and his vet visits never flagged anything; I just chalked it up to him licking weird things like the bath drain. My friend also confirmed that he has done this all his life. I switched him to some fancy subscription cat food (real cooked chicken) which he eats along with high protein dry cat food (he's a grazer and the real chicken food can't be left out all day) and it has helped a lot with this issue. Every so often it still happens, but not nearly with the same frequency. He's also mostly stopped licking weird things.
What about bileous vomiting? My cat throws up early in the morning before eating, and early afternoon before evening feeding. I took him to the vet and we switched to a rabbit protein food. Vomiting started again after about 3 months on food. I came upon an article on bilious vomiting which said feed more often so stomach is never empty. So far, he has not thrown up since starting this. I still have an appointment next week for a check up.
My vet and past vets have said my cat threw up before meals in expectation of food coming when he is hungry and he throws up clear liquid. Then he immediately eats as if nothing happened. He’s done this all his life and he is 7 yrs old.
Hi. I was wondering about hairball vomiting. In what category does that fit in? Is that also considered abnormal? And other than brushing our cat and giving hairball stuff (like Laxatone) is there anything else we should do? Thanks.
My cat has PTSD and she used to throw up every day, at least once a day. Through lots of trial and error she is on special food that I have to put through the food processor to make it small enough for her to digest and mix it with water and CBD oil 4 times a day.
Like the old joke, my cat regurgitates and gives me a look as if to say, "I threw up, but not to worry. I made it to the hand-knotted, wool, Chinese rug in time."
I had a cat who only threw up on carpets. She would go out of her way to an absorbent surface and throw up there. I think that to her it was less of a mess as it gets absorbed.
My cat started vomiting everyday, vet said it was probably nothing as she saw nothing wrong in the bloodwork. Turned out it was cancer, and he survived only a few months after the initial diagnosis. If your cat is vomiting for a few days straight and treatment from your "regular" vet does not help, take initiative and go to have an X-ray and ultrasound done. Don't wait!
I’m so sad I literally have no money to take my cats and they’ve thrown up one threw up today it was clear no foam and he hadn’t just drank a lot of water so idk what it was. And my other cat throws up here and there mostly food after eating things like that I know they need to see a vet but idk what to do bc I also know I do not have the money for it and I won’t any time soon my bills are all played out and money is managed every penny counts for me sometimes I have to choose between paying one bill over the other or paying light instead of getting milk but I’m okay I just want to help my cats what do you think I should do ? ( any recommendations are welcomed please these cats mean everything to me)
Care Credit covers vet visits! I had to get it for the same reason! Check with veterinary clinics near you to see if they accept this...! I now keep this card just for my feline friend! Love-Light!
@@Audeyache My cat was throwing up about once a week sometimes food sometimes clear. Then I saw an article about raising the food bowls up a few inches as it will keep the neck straight. I did that and its been a few months and no vomit. Also I got wide and shallow bowls to prevent wisker fatuge.
Very informative yet a bit overwhelming with the possible causes. I’m sure that it can be costly to get a proper diagnosis and the vet industry is very under-regulated. Despite my opinions, I really appreciate this information so that I can make an informed decision.
My cat has thrown,up all his life at least every week, i took him to the vet every year for a check up and what ever he needed, i always brought up the fact that he throws up alot mostly after eating, last january it got worse i took him,in and the vet did $1500.00 yup $1500.00 in tests .sonagrams blood panels. She not once even brought up allergies. She looked like a pretty young vet( new and inexperienced) now that i look back she offered just an anti nausea shot and canned cat food for dehydration and sent me home???? That was it no explanations except if it gets worse to come in and the tests showed he was completely healthy and looked good for 10 yrs old,.well in august last year he layed down for a nap next to me he never woke up died! I cried for a weekim still puzzled.😭😭
This is so heartbreaking so sorry for your loss..my cat is vomiting once a month or even less frequent I will get him checked out asap and empty my wallet at first chance given
I am so sorry but just like they do with humans it seems to be about the money which they get from the tests but not from a cure. The one comforting thing is he was in the place he loved the most when he passed and it sounds like he didn't suffer at all. Do you want to give your kitty you can give by Saving another kitties life from a shelter or when you find abandoned
My cat Wilson was a rescue from an 87 cat hoarder house. He has some residual poor eating habits which will sometimes cause him to regurgitate his food because he eats too fast. It took me six months or more to slow his eating and have had only a couple of incidents in the past two years.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! you are literally the best :) these video not only help me understand what was happening to my cat when she was throwing up but for possible future issues. Please know you are truly helping. :)
i love this doctor, she is so smart and knows exactly what she s talking about, she is really on the ball,,,,,thank you so much doctor sarah wooten , for explaining very clearly about why cats vomit, this was very interesting to listen to, thank you once again
I find it interesting that there was no mention of hairballs. My cat was a chronic vomiter and all that ever came up was hair and bile. He did have a bit of a sensitive stomach but once I found the right food, I thought the puking would stop. Nope. It did get better but it never really stopped. He had short hair and I brushed him every day (part of our nighttime routine). He still vomited several times a week. He never lost weight. He was not bloated or painful. He had a good appetite, but he wasn't a pig (he was a free feeder and didn't wolf down his food). His skin was fine, his coat was luxurious and shiny. He just threw up hair. Frequently. The vet suggested hairball medicine which my cat did not like and would not take (it was a really sticky goo that I think he had trouble swallowing). I read the packaging and it was white petrolatum (aka vaseline) with flavors added. I started giving him plain petrolatum. He would lick it off my fingers and would try to stick his nose in the jar if I was using it for myself. I gave it to him about once a week. It helped, but he still threw up hair at least once a week. Unfortunately, this seemed to be normal for him. He was otherwise healthy so the vet finally gave up trying to figure out why this was happening. My cat was 18 when he crossed the rainbow bridge.
Was that the cause of how your cat died? I have a cat that is throwing up hairballs and since it’s my first time having a cat I wasn’t sure on what it was at first
@@J3nn1f3r- No. My kitty was almost 18 and had kidney failure which is common in older cats. Check with your vet to ensure it's not something more scary.
@@fairygoth-mother7341 he has been having trouble getting rid of fleas (I think that’s why) but I’m taking him to the vet in a few hours, also I’m sorry about your cat !
My gray girl vomits a lot. I think it’s stress she created all the stress herself. I know she’s dealing with her seven adult children where it was just her. She brought it upon herself. She is the one that door dashed right before her appointment three times. God bless you dear Sara.
Are you serious? You’re the human. She’s the cat. You’re the one that failed. First, for failing to spay your cat; second, for allowing your cat outside … ever; third, for failing to find homes for her kittens. Your poor cat. Do better. Grow up. Be a responsible cat guardian.
One reason not covered is persistent overeating, after eating some combination of wet/ dry food, my cat just opened its mouth and out came at least three meals worth of undigested food. guessed that it did not want any of the other cats to get "its food". Maybe this falls under the regurd catagory. (happened twice in 3 months.). This cat is less than 18 months old.
So sorry for you loss of you precious 😺 thank you for sharing your story, my cat has been vomiting a pink fluid, I am making an appointment tomorrow, hope is nothing serious, her name is Lily Angus, she is a total sweet ❤️!!
Yea the same way insanity(projected belief systems/mental diseases/mismanagement of emotions)seems to be accepted as normal in humans while sanity(inclusivity/accountability/management over emotions &life/unconditional love is criticized and hated in many. Cats are so amazing. My cat left for his forever home a week ago and liver disease summed up his symptoms. I am happy he was part of my journey. VIDEO REQUEST! Is it possible for you to make a video regarding portions and tips on feeding your cat? There are so much info out there on the internet and it’s very confusing. Thank you!!!
My last cat vomited four to six times a week. My vet said its a cat thing. Then he told me to add two to three tablespoons of water into his wet food or to moisten his dry food. Didn't stop it, but greatly reduced it to maybe four times a month. Doesn't hurt to try it for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.
Thanks for publishing this. If you don't mind I'm going to keep this video in my back pocket for all those people on Facebook in pet groups that don't understand why I tell them to take their pets to the vet.
I have a longhair cat who doesn't just cough up hairballs, he barfs them up. Maybe once a month or so. Heaves for a bit, barfs up everything in his stomach, including a big black hair plug, and then usually barfs one more time with just liquid. I've been told at that frequency its not a big deal, and its obviously hairball related. He also throws up every time he goes in the car - that's obviously just stress though.
Watched this in the hopes of getting some enlightenment about vomiting fur balls. My two ragdolls expel them from time to time. I was surprised that fur balls were never even mentioned as a cause of vomiting along with any suggested treatment ideas.
I just started watching your cat videos and you sound like you know what you’re talking about. I’ve subscribed and will definitely be watching again soon. Thank you so much. Phyllis Paoletti
My 12yr female cat was just diagnosed with gallbladder sludge and my vet has her on ursodiol and metoclopramide. She has been losing weight despite eating well and she would vomit, we ended up doing blood work which showed she had elevated liver enzymes so we then did a ultrasound and that's how the gallbladder issue was discovered.
Very interesting. Thank you for this information. I rescued a feral cat at the verge of starvation a few years ago. He was vomiting occasionally when he was still roaming. Once we moved into the apartment he began to vomit every day after breakfast, then look at me for more food. This also happened when he didn't eat anything for some hrs during the day and then had dinner. I deducted that he has suffered during his time on the street, he is a natural snacker and I need to feed him slowly if he hasn't eaten for a few hrs. This works most times. Occasionally, I feed him too fast, and there seems to be something about chicken. Beef is fine. He has dandruff, so, maybe some food allergy. But most times, as soon as he vomited, he asks for food. I only give dry food then in small portions or raw meat, also in small amounts. He is approximately 8 or 9 now.
I have sciatica that just started as well as SIJ arthritis. It is a challenging time. Bending forward hurts a lot as well as lifting anything. My husband has had to take over a lot of chores, especially scooping cat litter. He is very generous with me.
I apologise, I do not know how to sugar coat my delivery... 1:27 scam to say it is never ever normal... hairballs are not to be processed in a cat... Foods that can rejected are because of the stomach acid is not able to resolve the chemistry of these artificial manufactured goods / wheat mostly to be ejected (just like grass)... Vomiting is related to stomach contents and most cats do not just vomit on an empty stomach / hence it is food related... STOP feeding your cat these ''choline chloride'' products! NOTE, the blood plasm levels will be totally different than the commercial trash products u feed your lovely pets. NOT one Purina test shows natural, human grade meat is deadly, not one (NEVER give cat onion, or vegetables)... Nutrition is key! Fat cats eat these manufactured and CHICKEN is NOT an allergen but large chucks can cause a digestive issue, so make the food smaller and less stress on the stomach acid process... Stress is such a scam that vets love to blame, I have NEVER EVEN had a cat vomit during stress event... a dog chases a cat and you see it vomiting - NO NO NO never seen it ever! ALL THOSE DAMN TEST YET SHE LEAVES OUT ARTIFICIAL PRODUCTS (CAN FOOD AND DRY FOODS). NO RICE NO RICE BUT BOILING WILL REMOVE SOME PHOSPHORUS FROM THE CHICKEN UTI (INFECTIONS) ARE RELATED TO THE DRY FOODS AND EVEN THE CAN FOODS; I HAVE CURED MY CAT FROM A UTI BY ORGANIC, HUMAN GRADE CHICKEN, MEATS AND KEEP IN MIND, THE BLOOD PLASMA LEVELS WILL NOT NOT NOT BE THE SAME AS NUGGET DIET OR A WET FOOR DIET FROM MANUFACTURED GOODS. Your vet needs to understand the blood plasma levels will appear higher in a protein diet and should be no attempt to regulate those levels down to a typical dry cat food blood plasma levels. Note, your cat WILL lose weight and it may scare you, but the cat will bottom out and have tons of energy and not pass blood, and will not be hooked on the crack / dry foods (choline chloride) ... note, I am extreme engineer and research person and my methods are always proven and his current blood work matches that of studies and healthy, meat eating cats. Please, get your cat's blood work checked after three weeks to confirm all is safe but never go back to dry food again (especially for boy cats)... I also have a background in nutrition...

It turns out, I simply removed the WHEAT, manufactured goods and switched him to raw and some boiled chicken! I have had his blood work / plasma levels checked and it matches that of acceptable for a raw and protein diet... per studies I found... Bruce, has ZERO crystals or issues with his bladder / UTI etc and and lost about pound and then gained it back in muscle! (he is a tank)... I have four cats, all were strays and all are very happy, as all have ''escaped'' from the house and ALL have returned on their own! (so much for being stressed)... Great tips! Fur balls seem to be a common cause of vomiting too. Especially for cats with long soft fur. A little trimming and brushing at home or by the groomers may be very helpful. Thanks again for sharing.😽
My girl was doing some vomiting/regurgitating while I was painting with a shellac based paint. It stoped when I stopped painting, so I’m pretty sure that was the cause but I’m still watching her.
We lost our 22 year old to cancer of the lower bowel last October. He vomited frequently towards the end and it was usually an indicator we need to increase his lactulose to get his faeces passed the growth. That usually saw better again until the next time, when it stopped making him better we knew we had to say goodbye. We have two kittens that are 6 months old now, the only time either of them vomited, was after the car journey home.
@@Ripley917 I weaned a found kitten that was 5-6 weeks old and she lived to be 20. When she was 18 we moved in with my now wife and the cat mentioned above, he was 14 at the time. They instantly hit it off and became the best of friends.
I have a seven year old male tuxedo. He is short hair and vomits quite often. He has a bad habit of snipping hair from his brothers and sisters (I have six cats) almost always there is a hair ball in the vomit pile. I have started chopping up his food and considering feeding him in isolation as I believe many times he woofs his food down. It is annoying as if the mornings were not busy enough cleaning up after him is less than pleasant. Thank You for the video.
One thing that I have noticed to hydrate is bowl size. The normal bowl is too small. I got a fountain. My cat started drinking more right away. For my cat, it doesn't matter whether the fountain is working or not
Thank you for this video, it's great to have more insight on what could be affecting my cat and symptoms I should be looking for. She's a chronic vomiter, and none of her previous owners did deep research on why, so we've been on a year long journey trying to find the answer. No luck yet, but less vomiting, which is at least improvement! This video definitely did help in eliminating some fears, and igniting some interests in other avenues I can look into.
This was very helpful, thank you. Our cat has been vomitting once a week or so for months, the Vet thinks it might be lymphoma. I didn't hear that mentioned in the video.
I think it's my indoor air quality. I replaced the whole AC system to include air intake filtering and I am currently replacing all my particle board and formaldehyde flooring ad furniture with tile and wood that I install and treat myself. China building materials killed my Father. I am also changing all my cleaning products tp things like vinegar and baking soda.
Willow would upchuck on a regular basis when I was still married. Oddly (or maybe not) she managed to do it on HIS side of the bed or in the hall where his step length would always manage to find it in the early morning... Nothing else "wrong" except that cheating man... After he was no longer in our lives she stopped. Figured it was something personal, not biological. I suppose you'd consider it stress - it seemed deliberate. The food was always partially digested and NEVER on the rugs. She lived 17 years, was an indoor cat (mostly - she had a deck that opened onto the roof and the guy who scraped the moss from the roof said she left turds on the moss). After the divorce I upgraded her diet away from grain and starch based food to all meat, but it took me a year or so. The vomiting stopped when he was gone, before I actually shifted their diet. Her long haired companion (Peddington) would chuck a hairball occasionally, but both were healthy.
@@AllAboutCatsYT Willow died a decade ago, age of 17. I rescued her at 10 days (eyes just opening) and mothered her. She would sing at night. Bedtime lullabies, I suppose. I'd sing back to her and once that was done my guests (and I) could sleep. When she died, Peddington sang for a while, but not consistently...
I am so sorry for your loss of your kitty.💔
I am so very sorry for your loss
Thank you for sharing, sorry about the passing of your cat.
God bless you..it's so hard. Thank you for sharing this!
I am so sorry for your loss.
Surprised hairballs weren’t mentioned as a cause. Definitely my cat’s main problem, every mess on the floor has a hairball in it. I brush her more now and add water to her wet food to turn it into a sort of soup, which has really helped her. ❤️
Hairballs and Throwing are different
That's probably why she didn't Mentioned it
My thoughts exactly LindaMarie
My cat regularly brings up furballs especially during the warmer summer months even tho I brush her regularly. She has just turned 14 and has always been fed dry food in the morning which she tends to snack on until lunchtime and wet food at night. I also give her the occasional treat (especially after clipping her nails lol)
hairballs, it is not vomiting, it is regurgitation.
It’s impossible to find vet who provides quality of care, but seems like millions vets on UA-cam!
We love our vet! We travel an hour just to see him!
Our vet loves us. He travels hundreds of miles just to see us.
Thank you so much for your reply. Mr Ritter is well worth the 500 plus. I simply can't afford that. We will have to take alternative way.
OH yeah, I know that problem.
I still give her dry food as well, but in reduced amounts, and that certainly alleviated the problem.
regurgitation is normal in Huskies and wolves to feed the puppies...
@@Chris-m2o1s ............! Um, cats....... This article was about cats. Cheers.
I'm glad you clarified the issue of vomiting. Now I'm more confused!
How ignorant and sarcastic you are.
Thank God she narrowed it down to 1,000 causes.. I was hoping to help my cat...
my thoughts exactly - probably cost $50 grand to test for half of them.
@@clayton56tube if you can't afford to treat your cat, don't get a cat (or get them a pet insurance)

this is very informative! My cat a few years back, my cat was throwing up a bit more than normal. Took him to the vet, turned out he was allergic to seafood or had a seafood sensitivity. Changed his food and he's done so much better! His anxiety has even improved

helpful information thanks
I started watching, thinking "This is so timely," only to have to pause to clean up cat vomit! A huge amount of information! Thank you, Doc, for your wonderful, informative posts!
How very cat like of your cat. lol
Wow, same as my 9 year old siamese. She passed away a month ago from severe pancreatic problems. I adopted another cat and she is also vomiting 😢

Oh wow so glad your baby is ok❤
hi, my cat has the same symptoms are your cats, but they weren't that severe.
My cat was vomiting, I raised her food bowl so she wasn't having to bend over her bowl & the vomiting stopped.
Thank you very much from France and french cats. Vomiting has no frontier.
Thanks! Very helpful useful information. You are a very good veterinarian , your heart is in your work ❤️
Thank you!
Thank you for enlightening me on the vomit vs regurgitation, knowing this will be most helpful.
Of course! I'm happy you appreciated it!

Hi you cat is 50 years old?
Try again! @@sylviasylvia5491
Hi I’m having the same issue , I can’t afford to go to the vet , can you share what home remedy I can use for regurgitating ?
My cat just turned 1 and have never vomited, luckily, but I find your videos really informative and interesting. Thank you for your hard work!
Gongratulations with your ( new) best friend 🐈🌞😸
You forgot to mention fur-balls.
There's no such thing as High Quality Dry Kibble. It's all harmful.
Thank you!
Feeding your cat high quality food will actually save you money in the long run, as it will cut down on your vet bills
Here’s some research regarding the use of acid reducers in cats, hope this helps your kitty 😽:

Hi, is your kitty recovered fully from vomitting? My kitty too went through all the checkup at various vets with no solutions. Still looking for answer as she is still vomitting every morning before breakfast for the past 6 months
@@mayjo7444 what did the vet say?
I don,t know your cats weight but vet secrets said 2.5 mg dose I think 2x daily . I buy the 10mg pepscid cut it in 4 with a pill cutter so each piece is 2.5 put it in a demitasse spoon in unflavored applesauce, justlay the pill on top of the applesauce open his mouth and slide the applesauce into his mouth, , so it works fine.he eats the I and love and you catfood but only the chicken overnight he goes back and forth when he wants, I think if he ate the whole thing he would vomit, he is about 9 pounds
My God… I’m glad my kitty is healthy.
thank you for talking to me. My rescue cat feels already better.
I can’t afford vet and my cats got sick from a kibble brand. Your advice re Pepcid totally worked. Thank you!!!
Was hoping to hear about “ Hair balls” Why and any solutions. Thank you so much !
Brush your cat often, give him/her 1/8 to 1/4 tsp Slippery Elm powder mixed in wet food. Just open a capsule and use. My holistic vet suggested it and it works!
Clean their water bowl and change the water out. My small one gets sick if her water sits and gathers bacteria.
Bloodwork, X-rays, ultrasounds, office visit. 😔 so expensive.
Extremely.
...and if you can find a vet that has an appointment available. It's been somewhat of a challenge where I live.
Totally expensive. But I have pet insurance that pays 90% of the bills.
Great info! We have a rescue 13 year old cat. She vomits quite often. We have a vet appointment next week so am anxious to discuss her vomiting.
The moral of this story: take your cat to the vet, where millions tests will be performed, and after multiple bills still no solution. My cat had a stroke and emergency vet prescribed painkiller and eye drops! No joke!
Wow!🙏🏿

I too would like a video on regurgitation. Our one cat does this quite frequently…usually right back into her food bowl.
Thank you for informative insigth reguarding the vomiting issue
Thanks.
Hey there, that's a great question. You might appreciate our article on hairballs in cats: allaboutcats.com/cat-hairballs
My cat has PTSD and she used to throw up every day, at least once a day. Through lots of trial and error she is on special food that I have to put through the food processor to make it small enough for her to digest and mix it with water and CBD oil 4 times a day.
Lol “ptsd” you cannot be this crazy to think that.
Don't wait!

Well, now I have way more things to worry about in regard to my cats!
@@J3nn1f3r- maybe he's allergic to the flea medication
This describes my boy perfectly. Always hair balls or bile, rarely regurgitation
Very comprehensive video. I have learnt a lot. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
So sorry for you loss of you precious 😺 thank you for sharing your story, my cat has been vomiting a pink fluid, I am making an appointment tomorrow, hope is nothing serious, her name is Lily Angus, she is a total sweet ❤️!!
Another great video lots of good info thanks
Yea the same way insanity(projected belief systems/mental diseases/mismanagement of emotions)seems to be accepted as normal in humans while sanity(inclusivity/accountability/management over emotions &life/unconditional love is criticized and hated in many. Cats are so amazing. My cat left for his forever home a week ago and liver disease summed up his symptoms. I am happy he was part of my journey. Cats a truly connected with the spirit realms and are always helping us with the lessons we have to learn to evolve.
What were the symptoms?
@@post121 these are leading up to his big transition..vomiting, nausea, excessive water consumption, yellowing eyes, unresponsive, hiding, sometimes more attention seeking/attachment than usual.. there may even be more I wasn’t aware of because cats are so aloof. Love and light mi amigo
@@RisingPurpose9941 what did his vomiting routine look like though? I mean how often was he vomiting?
@@post121 oh I also missed sleeping 💤 aaaaaallllllot very different from his regular sleeping routines. I would noticed him coughing..a heaving cough nothing would appear at first because you know they like to regurgitate and swallow.. usually at night times mostly is when I would hear him. One night I saw him finally let out a white frothy vomit in large amounts than I’m use to but that was weeks before he actually stopped eating for 5days..nothing I did would open his appetite. That’s when I knew he was leaving me

Is it possible for you to make a video regarding portions and tips on feeding your cat? There are so much info out there on the internet and it’s very confusing.
Thank you!!!
Yes! That's a great idea. We'll consider it for the near future.
@@AllAboutCatsYT Thank you so much!! Means a lot to me🙏🏽
You just saved my two cats live thankyou
Your videos are always so helpful. Thanks so much!
🙏 thank you for the invitation
My last cat vomited four to six times a week. My vet said its a cat thing. Then he told me to add two to three tablespoons of water into his wet food or to moisten his dry food. Didn't stop it, but greatly reduced it to maybe four times a month. Doesn't hurt to try it for a couple of weeks to see if it helps.
Thanks for publishing this. If you don't mind I'm going to keep this video in my back pocket for all those people on Facebook in pet groups that don't understand why I tell them to take their pets to the vet.
Yay, I'm so glad to hear that you'll be sharing it. Thanks for being here!
Could try Brushing the dead hair out of your cats coat so when he is cleaning he is not swallowing them ? I don’t know if I’m right
Hair Ball Medication. Tubes can be bought. At most pet stores. Once a month treatment.
Get his Fur Clip
Get him Hairballs Medication
And Comb his Fur every Day
Thank you so much Dr. Your information is so helpful and informative. 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you very much for a very comprehensive review.
Watched this in the hopes of getting some enlightenment about vomiting fur balls. My two ragdolls expel them from time to time. I was surprised that fur balls were never even mentioned as a cause of vomiting along with any suggested treatment ideas.
I am very grateful for these videos in doing my own research.
Very, very informative & helpful information! Thank you, thank you!😻
I just started watching your cat videos and you sound like you know what you’re talking about. I’ve subscribed and will definitely be watching again soon. Thank you so much.

Thank you. That was an excellent explanation, of cat vomiting. I learnt alot.
My cat eats the dryfood to fast & greedy Therefore i give it with water Cat has to fish it out of the water Takes time
I have sciatica that just started as well as SIJ arthritis. It is a challenging time. Bending forward hurts a lot as well as lifting anything. My husband has had to take over a lot of chores, especially scooping cat litter. He is very generous with me.
Do you just need attention? Otherwise, what does this have to do with vomiting?
NO RICE NO RICE BUT BOILING WILL REMOVE SOME PHOSPHORUS FROM THE CHICKEN
UTI (INFECTIONS) ARE RELATED TO THE DRY FOODS AND EVEN THE CAN FOODS; I HAVE CURED MY CAT FROM A UTI BY ORGANIC, HUMAN GRADE CHICKEN, MEATS AND KEEP IN MIND, THE BLOOD PLASMA LEVELS WILL NOT NOT NOT BE THE SAME AS NUGGET DIET OR A WET FOOR DIET FROM MANUFACTURED GOODS.
I think my vet is lazy. There stuff you're talking about requires........ work.
What we need is an animal dietitian!
@@daylight8208 , I have saved my ''Bruce'' from a vet that claimed he was stressed, would require her special food diet, would require visits for the rest of his life!
My Bruce, is NOT stressed and all it required was me to do some deep dive into crystals and what they are made of and from...
Don not believe the lie of a stressed cat causing UTI that is just bull shit!
Please, get your cat off of WHEAT and I have videos coming out on the product they put into cat food to make it addictive (it happens to be the same product they put in human food)!
Daylight, I was almost a certified nutritionist (another story about the food pyramid that the instructor demand a do a supporting paper on = not possible) ...
My cat was vomiting a lot.... but she has a lot fur in summer so there are periods were shes not vomiting and there are periods were shes permanent doing it..... But shes now 15 and very active still and healthy.... she gets her whole life just organic food and thyroid dry food. Sometimes she gets unhealthy food cuz she likes it sometimes. We go to mc donalds too xD .... But shes doing it her whole life(most times fur) and she has no probs with it. How that comes that its so normal by her? Its a serious question.
Many thanks for video. Our puddy cat, a beautiful ginger tuxedo male, regurgitates sometimes after eating. Good to know its differs from vomiting. We dont scald him as we know he cannot help it and he is really a good feline friend

My female cat is 17.5 years old and was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about 3-years ago. She eats Hill's prescription Y/D, and we apply Methimazole gel to her hears every day twice a day/two drops per app. She vomits every morning, and about 6-months ago we noticed that she has lost her hearing. We decreased the Methimazole to just one drop per application twice a day and her hearing has improved a bit.
She's not supposed to vomit every morning! Vet!

Great tips! Fur balls seem to be a common cause of vomiting too. Especially for cats with long soft fur. A little trimming and brushing at home or by the groomers may be very helpful. Thanks again for sharing.😽
Thank you this is very helpful!!
We cut out fish with our cat and it works 95 %of the time. It works for us. Try it. I hope it helps.

Great job taking care of your cat for 22 years. My cat lived to be almost 20 years old. He was 10 wks. old when he came to live with me.

How often does your cat vomit?
This was very helpful, thank you. Our cat has been vomitting once a week or so for months, the Vet thinks it might be lymphoma. I didn't hear that mentioned in the video.
Cancer was mentioned
Very interesting. Glad Willow seems to be doing better.
