Great information! My cat has been vomiting for years off and on. I switched him to raw food and it was better. I read about whisker fatigue and gave him a flat plate. He still occasionally vomited. Recently I learned about an elevated wide bowl. I bought it and he hasn't vomited in 3 months. I think I finally found the answer for him.

I have heard of using coconut oil for hairballs and skin issues but the shredded coconut is an interesting option. I use real butter, not margin, but real butter for my cats for hairballs. I've used it for years and it works really well. I just give them a small Pat of real better, let it get soft and melted, and usually they just lick it right off of the plate. The oils in it help with constipation and lubricating everything moisturizing and passing everything through plus it helps their skin and coat. Mine love it. I have to be sure and keep the lid on the butter or my cats will sometimes get on the counter and eat right out of the glass container.

You could potentially risk one issue for another. Cats can’t digest dairy. Butter is dairy. It may help slide the hairball through but, cause a digestive upset. Pharmaceutical grade petroleum jelly is used in a cat with a severe hairball clot. Not to be used as maintenance.

I changed Remy's kibble to Purina One Sensitive Systems for skin and stomach and he rarely throws up now. I was buying Halo a very expensive food with no meal or by products and he still threw up several times a week. His Vet did a lot of test and $300 later said it was the food he was eating. I do give him canned food too and sometimes add puree pumpkin. I freeze pumpkin and take out what I need. I add immune support powder by Tomlyn every day to his canned food. His Vet said it was good for him since he had an upper respiratory infection this past spring. I use coconut oil on Remy when he scratches himself and it helps heal the boo boos quickly. I even use it on myself. I healed a feral cats ear that got badly injured and it was healed in a week. He lets me pet him is how I was able to rub it on his ear. I love Murray he is such a good patient even though he acts like he doesn't want to be there lol. He makes me laugh.

Wervua “press your lunch” is the only cat food I’ve found that doesn’t make my cat throw up. It’s got low mag and phos, limited ingredients, is the color of chicken, in a mouse that you need to whip up with a fork, and 75% moisture content. My cat threw up for 7 years on any and all food she was fed, at least weekly. I used the tomylns vitamins in the tube when she got super sick, and then switched over to weruva. Down here in the states, we have to be careful about the coconut.. they sweeten a whole lot of it.. which is weird since coconut is sweet anyway.
Another reason for the vomiting could be elevated thyroid hormones.. which can make humans dizzy.. at least this human. I have two hyperthyroid cats and have fostered a few. Same meds for me and the boys even. One gets a little pukey if he gains or looses a pound.. which means... labs... again.

I asked the vet last year for a titer test and she said the titer test would cost more than the vaccines so I may as well give her the vaccines…I refused and haven’t been back since. It can unfortunately be an ongoing battle. I’ve had 2 GSD’s and one had severe allergies to rotting leaves, mites, yeast….if they don’t stop scratching they end up with sores, ear infections, red toe pads etc. try going totally grain free which includes the treats. Some swear by a raw diet however expensive and not always available. Just don’t waste money on supplements, lotions etc
Fuciden ointment works best if your GSD gets sores from scratching.
I would def keep the heart worm and tick prevention going.

@@ashleyfarley5091 Poor baby. I know how frustrating that is. My 10-month-old did the same. I finally resorted to dry food only (mixed with water) for a few days and THEN added back in his wet food in small portions, and snacks. I found out it was dehydrated chicken that was making him sick. Which is fine with me, as it was costly. Wishing you and your furbaby the best...🙏😻

I have plural cats and none of them will eat chicken anymore. I have one that will not eat “people food” of any kind, whatsoever. I’ve been feeding them tuna but more than half of them are now turning their noses up at it! I’ve tried numerous brands, and sometimes they’ll eat a certain brand and sometimes they won’t even touch it. My cats are even turning away from Temptation cat treats! They don’t like their usual favorite dry kibble anymore. They’re also vomiting a lot. Not 1 or 2 cats but several. All of them, on and off, but it’s constant. This all started during the pandemic. I know the they’ve changed the recipes, or ingredients. I have no doubt about that, but that doesn’t explain the vomiting. There’s something that’s just not right about it. My cats don’t want to eat the food, but after days of only being offered the same food, and starving at that point, they eat it and later vomit. But I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried every brand of can food, same scenario. I’ve tried many different brands of dry cat food. I’ve spend an absolute fortune trying to find food that my animals will eat and I’m at a complete loss. My heart is so broken for them. I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m begging for anyone to give me some advice. I cannot watch them suffer. I have 12 cats, all rescues. I love them very much.

I have been giving slippery elm bark powder (Nature’s Way brand) for my cat every day for the past month and a half, it causes soft stool and/ or diarrhoea, and it didn’t help avoiding the hairballs. My cat has currently a hairball, she vomited twice this dawn but only water and pale liquid with foam, she is barely eating and in pain. I tried everything possible to avoid the damned hairballs. I am so scared I will lose her. Nothing is helping.

Where do you get ground flax seed? At a regular grocery store? Also he said you can get the shredded coconut from your local co-op. I have no idea what a co-op is. What's another word for it? I'm from the north east but I now live in Florida below Tampa/St. Petes. I really need the hairball solution and the others. I have 4 cats and they are constantly puking. Sometimes with hairballs and sometimes without them. Right now they eat the Hills Urinary prescription food.

@Katie Kat. Greetings from South Africa. We have Co-ops (Co-Operatives) over here. They are Agricultural stores that stock everything a farmer needs from barbed wire fencing through to livestock feed and meds. Some also stock domestic animal goods from food and meds through to Hamster wheels, bird cages etc..
Co-ops over here were originally started by a group of farmers who set up stores in farming towns where they could sell their produce.
At least that is how I understand it, but I am open to correction.
Hope I have been of assistance 👍🤗
