I had a friend where I used to live who was a fisherman. He didn't throw carp back. He pressured them, canned them and used them for his cat's food, almost exclusively. The last time I saw him his cat was a healthy 27 year old.

I really can recommend adopting a mature dog/cat. I’ve done both and they are a joy. Yesterday was six years since I adopted a then 10 year old cat. She was also a recent amputee (hind leg) when I adopted her. It gives me so much happiness to see how much she’s enjoying life. She is so affectionate and a lovely companion. I also adopted a wonderful older dog whose owner had passed away almost 4 years ago. Older animals are usually mature and sensible and can integrate into a household quite seamlessly. I’m also a bit older so we operate at the same speed, eg we all enjoy an afternoon nap, pottering around and companionship etc 😉💕.

Good info. I have a sweet kitty whose penus was removed because of urinary stones. When I got Pepper, he was on a special high moisture "urinary" diet from a well known product pushed in every vet clinic here in Florida. Supposedly to help prevent a re occurence of stones. The first ingredient on the list was corn. Lots of it. I was flabbergasted. I put Pepper immediately on a freeze dried raw meat diet. These are chunky sized morsels that he has to break up and chew. I add a little water to just barely moisten the morsels. 3 years later I have a healthy cat, not over weight, sleek fur, no eye or ear issues. This cat food industry is so full of con artists and fake nutrition it isn't funny. I honestly believe that it is collusion between the vets and the food companies, because it is guaranteeing a steady supply of sick cats. That is why I think this Vet is the best. He is honest about a very bad situation.

The vet in our rural area specifically told me, to feed my 2 cats Purina dry food. BOTH were sickly. One cat had massive clumps in her skin/fur with sparkly flakes. Both extremely constipated. Both vomited, daily. Both were overweight and generally lethargic & unhealthy. Last time, I attempted to put them in carriers to take to vet, my elder cat bit me badly. That was 10 years ago. No more vet. Began educating myself. Changed their food extensively. Use Ayurvedic & western herbal medicine, proven safe/effective for felines as needed. A decade later both cats are much healthier & happier. THANKS Dr Jones for not being, a slave to 'big pet food', to the detriment of our beloved kitties!

i add bone broth powder (6 grams protein per teaspoon) to their wet food. I mix it in a blender with added purified water and colloidal silver to prevent and treat infections. I have 2 - 22yr old cats an 11 yr old mainecoon and im guessing a 2 yr old stray. this protein is tasteless and helps with their joints. Not to mention it makes their fur so shiny and super soft.

    I agree with you.
I want to add to your words that you could add a little bit of fresh water to the can food to increase the intake of liquids of your cat.
For example; Lila is a Siamese lady 17 years old; when I feed her, I divide the small can in four parts. I add to each fourth one tsp. of water and instead of mixing I rather cutting in it. Just adding enough water to refresh a little bit the paté. She is very happy and her kidneys work very well.

it is crazy that companies can still get away with producing low quality food, manipulating the labels and cheating with marketing tricks to keeps selling products that are harmful to animals. This is the major reason i have decided not to own another pet. It is impossible to feed our pets properly. Even canned food is filled with carbs as cheap fillers. How can a can of chicken cat food only contain 8%-10% protein? I understand a big part of it is water and some vitamins are added, but there should be more real meat and less byproducts.

Dr. Jones I got my cat from a rescue as an older cat as foster and quickly became a foster fail when so many potential adopters wanted to declaw him so I decided he’d stay with me. I only foster cats that nobody else will foster and Matt was a “shadow cat”. Matt is now 22 and is on canned wet food but also when I’m cooking for myself I’ll put aside some salmon, beef or chicken and I always add broth for him before I add salt. He loves it and I’ll never ever go back to kibble. As they get older they eat less so it’s really important to give a high protein diet and it’s also cheap to feed a cat. My cat is an indoor cat but I make sure he always has a spot where the sun hits so he can get sunlight. When I got him the rescue told me he was a shadow cat but now he’s a Velcro cat. He’s a Chantilly that almost went extinct in the ‘50 when an auctioneer saw a pair in the window of the house that was for sale and they started to be bred again. They are chatty affectionate and chocolate brown not black like people think and to groom them self they pull tuffits of hair out. Their eyes are a fantastically vibrant green and change to become even more beautiful as they get older. Wonderful creatures. Cheers to 22 years young.

My daughter and I adopted a cat 5 weeks ago. The woman who owner her had dementia and had to go in a nursing home and her daughter had cognitive problems so couldn't care for the cat on her own so a lady in their church took the cat to see if it could be adopted out. The owners could not give any information on age and it seems there was no vet care. Right from the start we saw the cat was lethargic, slept most of the time, drank copious amounts of water and urinated a lot, barely ate anything and wasn't having bowel movements. After treating her for over a week for constipation she finally passed a 4 inch long, thin, dry mass of fur so we thought that was the problem. But she still wasn't eating and the drinking and peeing persisted. We tried to get her in to a vet and with her symptoms were told she needed to go to an emergency clinic. They kept her 4 days and ran all kinds of tests and found she's in kidney failure. The hospital bill alone was over $2,200. She's on 4 or 5 different medications and several supplements and a kidney diet to keep her pain free and functioning. We tried to get her to eat freeze dried raw moistened with bone broth and high quality canned but the only food she will eat is k/d canned from the vet that I add bone broth to. She was 6 lbs when she came home from the hospital and in just a couple of days she's put on weight. We know her time with us is not going to be long, but meanwhile we're lavishing her with loads of love and care. I just wish we had gotten her sooner and given her a high quality food and a better life.

There is no taurine or calcium in what you are feeding. Your pet will die without taurine. Please learn what is required for cat health. Don't leave the pet food industry that's killing you beloved pet only to kill your beloved pet yourself. Cat's need more than meat and you must have the right kinds or supplement. There is no taurine (necessary) or calcium (necessary) in meat and you can't use calcium pills they won't be absorbed by your pet.
Make sure you are adding taurine and bonemeal to your fur-babies food if you are going to make your own cat food. Cat's need more than meat. Without taurine which your cat cannot make it will die; the pet food industry found that out at the expense of many people's pet's. Also, cat's require more calcium than dog's so bonemeal is necessary if you don't want your cat to cripple. People found this out with tigers; you just can't feed 'em meat.
Cat's need meat, chicken hearts for taurine or buy the supplement from amazon, and bones or bonemeal. Never cooked bones; cooked bones splinter.
I use some wet commercial and a raw food diet. A good complete commercial food is better than an incomplete homemade one. There are homemade pet food guidelines for complete nutrition for cats or go to the website 'cat lady fitness'.
I lost my precious Buzzy cat to kidney disease and heart problems and hyperthyroidism due to the pet food industry and vowed never again. My precious Bella gets all the nutrition she needs and she plays like a kitten again and she's nine years old and in great health.
I bought a vitamix machine just to be able to grind the raw bones she needs for her calcium requirements. She runs and plays and jumps like a kitten again.
Remember the necessary nutrients or early death of you precious pet. Taurine is not optional; a high calcium level is not either. Also, no uncooked eggwhites due to a difficiency of B1 it causes overtime. I only use raw eggyolks in my recipe. Raw food has much more nutrition. Check out 'Cat Lady Fitness'.
I hope this will help and the very best to your beloved cat(s). Give it a pat for me.

Brilliant video! I'm very grateful to have found you have found you here on UA-cam!
I used to work at petsmart and they taught us taught us about cat food and what not and probably not for the betterment of people's cats people's cats but rather to upsell
What I learned though has been very helpful. I did not realize about the moisture content and I thank you for that Though truthfully my cats love bottled water pure purified
What I did notice about premium cat foods that they taught me that I found to be true is that you spend less money on cat litter because because with the better food they eat less and their body actually uses what they eat instead of it coming straight out of the animal into the litter Box
The 2nd thing is that I let my cats free feed meaning I keep food out for them
I'm guilty of using Kibble but I use the high protein and and no grain type
They love it and they don't believe there's many carbs either
I also feed them Mostly turkey and and salmon Either shredded or Pate style
I'm gonna try to get them off of the temptations cat traits because my cat's love it and I believe it should be called cat crack and now frisky's came out with a product called stuffed and sauced which is basically cat crab she is basically cat crack soaked in gravy and I can!! It is ridiculous
But anyway I thank you and and like I said you end up spending the same amount of money if you purchase the premium food versus cheap stuff that's no good for them because They truly do eat less of the better food and because their body is using most of it you will not find them filling your litter Box so you save money and time on cat litter and cleaning it
Blessings and I'm gonna share this channel with everybody I know

That's absolutely great information, about the percentage of protein and knowing how to read an ingredient list. Cats aren't cows and eventually cows don't thrive that well on a grain diet.
    But.
Firstly cats and other predators don't eat the same as we do. Even more in rich countries, we only think about muscle meat when we say animal protein. But that's not what carnivores actually prefer.
What cats eat first when they catch a bird is the head. Meaning brains, eyes, glands, tongue, skin, feathers, etc.
Then they eat the gut. Which means more glands and organ meat and also the semi-digested (to almost completely digested, haha) and fermented contents of the gut.
So they do eat a fair amount of carbohydrates, but in semi-digested and fermented form.
Let's also not forget that cats love to eat grass and different types of foliage.
I know that as a vet you know all this and this is an introduction video so things have to be kept simple, but still, these are facts. Muscle meat is not a panacea when it comes to cat food. Knowing that no food is perfect, what about adding a bit of water to good quality kibble?

I always put warm water in the dishes before I put the wet or dry food in for our cats. BUT, wait, I do plan on making future cat food from cooked chicken (no bones) and cooked turkey (I know the prices now (November 2022) are outrageous) but cheaper in the long run than processed canned wet cat food. And, yes, 5 of our cats are FAT. I will be including sweet potatoes, a little nutritious yeast, ground up flax seeds, the broth from cooking the birds, a little bit of pumpkin (not canned) & some veggies recommended for cats. This food will last a good month & I may even pressure can some for the future. Judi

Great advice on canned cat food! What do you think about the "Grain Free" varieties of kibble? We feed 50/50 and our cats drink more water than most. I've also noticed good quality can food has a higher moisture content than the less expensive less quality cat foods. Thanks you for your honesty and addressing the issues most vets don't like to discuss. Enjoy all your videos!

I hsve 7 rescue cats that I ended up taking in when I was trapping stray/feral cats in my neighborhood for TNR program at our local animal shelter. Most of the cats I trapped over a 6 year period were released after TNR,, and a few kittens I was able to find homes for and also a couple friendly adult cats I was able to place. But I also took into my own home 6 kittens and one young adult cat that I could not place for various reasons. And one was a kitten we adopted from an animal rescue early on. That's how I came to have 7 cats. I am feeding them all can food primarily, with a little dry kibble on the side each day. I feed all but 2 cats primarily canned Friskies because I can't afford to feed a better quality can food to all 7 cats. Two of my cats eat a better quality canned food do to having allergies. I also have one dog. Pet food and pet care is becoming more expensive all the time and it is difficult when you have multiple pets. So canned Friskies will have to do, but I wish I could feed them all a better/more expensive can food, but can't.

      @elithluxe7568 Рік тому

@@lucyt-c8092 tried that but my three cats don't like anything but friskies. Nevermind the 12 yr old senior who has only eaten that her entire life but the two kittens constantly try to steal her food while ignoring every other wet cat food. I have been feeding them kibble which also lasts longer and am only doing that until they reach a yr old because kitten kibble has more protein than canned kitten food. But now they won't eat anything but Kibble or my senior cats Friskies. So my only option is a mixture of Kibble and Friskies. I have to see if they like the Friskies pate cause I only get the gravy/shreds/giblets for my senior cat as she likes soupy cat food. If I have to get the soupy ones for these two kittens, that's going to run out so fast meaning more spending so I'm hoping they like the Friskies pate style. I have other brands of wet cat food like Walmart brand and 9lives but they don't go crazy for them at all. I obviously don't want to only do kibble which will only cause problems but a combination of kibble+friskies pate will be more budget friendly as they also get tired of friskies if they only eat that. Very picky cats. I tried making homemade cat food yesterday and it didn't work at all. They had a few licks and then starved the rest of the night. So I had to open one of the last cans of my seniors cats Friskies

@@alicesais770 the older one (Rabi-brother) of the two new cats was doing this thing where he was licking up all the sauce/soup from the friskies canned food that I was pouring out for him in a bowl leaving just the dried up meat because he licked up the sauce. Ria, his sister was actually eating it but now she's started doing that while he has started eating it and not just licking up the sauce. With these two, it's always the opposite thing lol. They never want to do the same thing at once besides pooping and peeing at literally the same thing. If Ria is eating well, Rabi is being picky. Now Rabi is eating well, but she's being picky. It doesn't work when I try to wean them because Rabi who is the pickiest will not eat at all if it isn't something he likes while Ria will eventually give in if she sees I'm ignoring her. I tried giving 9 lives mixed with goats milk and some kibble yesterday morning and it is still pretty much full besides the kibble on top being eaten up. I just hate that Friskies is also so much more expensive now when pre-covid it was $20 for a pack of 40. Both the cats don't like eating the same thing though. If I'm just giving them kibble the entire day, they hate it. If I'm just giving them wet food only, they also hate it. And the amount eaten for both is different with more kibble than anything. It really is true when they say cats imprint on the first thing they eat. For my senior cat, that was Friskies so she will occasionally eat a can by another brand meaning maybe a can a week but Friskies is her absolute favorite and what she goes back to. For the two new cats, it is kibble as that is what I fed them mostly as kittens due to Friskies giving them diarrhea at that point. I didn't know that kittens had their own food to eat and needed so much protein so I opted for the dry version since there is more there and I would have been shelling out way more money on can kitten food with how much they were eating.

Dr . Jones Thank you so much!🙏😽 every single video I watch of yours gives me hope! You truly are an inspiration and is so refreshing to see a vet and someone that actually cares and wants to help the animals, whatever way possible , naturally ,and not necessarily conventional or scientifically.
I appreciate all your valuable information, who you are and everything that you do!
I only wish I could take my cat Abby to you because I know she would have been much better a long time ago! I have no support from my vet whatsoever and he just keeps trying to push the insulin on me but I am want to only help her naturally , I have not started the insulin Even though he's making me feel guilty and pressure me to do so,
and when I did your probiotics and high protein diet , she actually started to gain weight and was walking better and her coat was looking better and more energy!
Unfortunately, she reacted to the raw beef She had an allergic reaction , so I had to stop everything. Now she's lost weight again. however I am going to start the raw diet different protein sources this time and high protein just tuna for cats and probiotics again and Im hoping for the best! 🤞🙏
Again thank you so much!!! The world needs more people like you! 🙏😽👍😻
And my sincere condolences for your losses I feel your pain! Animals are just as precious as humans and if anything I find animals bring more joy and always unconditional love 😻
Kudos for taking a stand and speaking up and doing the right thing and that is rare in this world way to go! 👍

I've argued with my vet about the food for my diabetic cat. He says to feed my boy a "vet approved" dry kibble containing rice. For the life of me I can't seem to get the vet to understand that kibble and carbs are bad for cats. Just because he is a vet he thinks he knows best. I've been caring for cats longer than my vet has been alive! and believe it is because they are indoctrinated during training to market Vet approved foods.
I now feed my cat a 100% steamed meat product available in the UK. The only additive to my knowledge is Taurine. My cat is thriving on the food, has lost weight and is so healthy.
So... Thank you for your honest views on this. The big pet food companies must hate you, be those in the know love your honesty.

They wanted me to leave out dry food all day and night and only give a quarter of can of wet cat food just the next size up from the can you were showing. Then when the dry cat food ran out they gave me a new and different dry cat food. I was told when you change a dogs food from one to another brand I was suppose to slowly mix the new with the old. Is it the same way with cats ? Or can you just change from one to another. Unfortunately the dry cat food I was given was like the one you had shown (not good for the cat).

My best are welcome on my bed and furniture. New cat owner. My husband saved her at the transfer station from being crushed under a scale. Couldn’t find mama or babies anywhere. Brought her home and kept her in a bedroom for her safety until we found her a home. She was tiny. Well my dogs started laying outside the door and her little paw would bath away at my shepherd’s nose. He didn’t care. We slowly introduced her without really knowing we were doing everything right…lol. She escaped one day and ran out and and jumped on the dog bed with our shepherd. He didn’t even react really. He sniffed her and licked her and now they sleep together. She will harass both dogs. It’s hilarious but she is here to stay. We haven’t vaccinated her yet. She will never go outside so I may just do the flu vaccines you recommend. Im no longer going to give any vaccines. We have the Shepard and a pomipoo. I landed here a few days ago because of an ear infection that wasn’t clearing and my little one that is reverse sneezing but not thinking it’s trach collapse. I’m here as long as you are.

I've seen cats catching fish on UA-cam. I personally don't feed my cats anything with cow or pig because they definitely don't catch and eat those kinds of animals in the wild. I'm in the process of transitioning them to a raw diet but it's going to take time because they are 3 1/2 years old now. I did take them off of friskies and put them onto Halo brand but I still don't like kibble. It's atleast a better option but there are blueberries and cranberries in the ingredients 🤦. For wet food, I took them off of canned because it always had some kind of crazy chemicals or oils in it. You're right about us making canned cat food like human food. Cheese? Cow's milk is terrible for cats! (And humans) I found a simple food called Applaws chicken and duck with only 3 ingredients but thats just a step towards feeding raw. Thanks for the video!

Go figure.

The same I found to be true with dogs, our first patch of dogs used to mouse and eat kibble, I believe the wild food they found on the farm kept them healthy because the kibble did eventually reduce their health. Needless to say we go raw now, but there is still a lot of missing nutrients that they get from not eating the gut of their prey, tons of omega oils, plus farm raised meat is grossly out of balance in their omega oils. Like I told my son the other day, processed-food is an oxymoron for humans and animals, if you think about it. I find the price of canned food along with the vet bills and heartache to cost more than just feeding human food, but for those who just can't I guess canned is better than not. Watching Chronically Jacqui on youtube you can see how a really disabled person does raw and the great benefits her dog got-energy, dramatically less hair loss, better fur coat, better teeth that are clean, and the best part of all less smelly poop. Keep sharing because we keep learning.

Have you considered how in the wild consume whole prey and what do you think of that? I think it's natural like a regular part of what a wildcat would do or do you think the smaller house cat would just eat organ meat or scavenge for eggs try to catch fish Maybe? Because my cat has a hankering for salmon a lot but she does like beef and chicken as well but she's unhealthy and I fear fancy face and ions and she's an indoor cat her hair sheds like crazy and her scalp looks dry and she has hair ball issues all the time but the iams corrects it by making her throw up logs of hair.
