Wasn't expecting the crowd to be so into it, gg people
_focks why not? its Metallica! lol
Yeah I was really surprised too! Super awesome. They even knew when to chant and stuff, which leads me to believe a good part of the audience was made up of fans and not just random folks.
janeswurld The recently did a show in New York and the crowd was basically dead
_focks this video doesnt do the crowd justice. As soon as those tv cameras went off the mosh pits and crowd surfing began. I was there and by god was it amazing.
I was there! Best night of my life! Pits formed in atlas and creeping!
Metal on TV? Is this a dream?
ThatOnePerson eh He had Lamb of God on once.
and deftones
ThatOnePerson Metal has been on tv countless times
Jovin Sangha in a minuscule quantity
Deftones are metal
that Rob crab walk never gets old!
AGREE
I always cringe as he walks like that or spins around.
It's not Metallica like.
it shows how out of shape Kirk and James are....lol
Yes it does idk why Metallica hired him to be a bassist
@@ryanbowman1286 Maybe cuz some of you listen with your eyes and not your ears. Rob is a badass bass player.
"Take a look to the sky just before you die, it's the last time you will" genius line, after 30 odd years I still get chills every time.
And Robert is such a perfect fit, man is an absolute beast!
Raymond Koenen ur like the only person on here who I can agree with about Robert
I agree
That line has always been my favorite
Clarke Tracey same here every time the song comes on I wait for that part and yell it out
Kaitlen Ternent it’s so evil and dark, I wish James could still write lyrics like that
Kirk's outfit...."i'm having a wedding to attend after the show guys !! cmon !! "
Totally impressed with Hetfield's vocal performance. Saw them live when they came to Venezuela, and it seems like his vocals only get better and better.
Espero que vuelvan a venir apenas caiga este gobierno
The voice of James hetfield is like a fine wine. Only gets better with age;)
Yep. He gained melody, but has lost the force and brutality.
@ricerust He's borderline pushing his limits and still has a lot of voice control. What do you expect, lion vocals out of a 53 year old whose voice has blown countless times?
***** Hmm seems 7 others agree with me. Yeah he's lost his constant ability to roar like a lion. But he gained melody and control. Just a fact man.
Really great that Kimmel always give the heavy metal bands a chance 🙌
Well They are Thrash Metal not Heavy metal. They both different.
Hardees Casulla they play both if you didn't know that now you know
They are Thrash. They play Heavy metal when they were covering Heavy metal songs. They are one of the Big 4 of Thrash Metal.
been listening to Metallica since they came on the scene in the 80's. so long time old school fan here... but I have to say, Metallica hasn't been thrash metal since 1990. they are just a rock band that plays their old thrash metal on their set.
Actually Metallica would say they don't belong or conform to anything, so there's that
I've heard and played this song thousands of times, and it never gets old. Dead simple to play and sing, but so much fun!
Definitely a top 10 favorite song to play/sing. Will never get old.
Nice bass improv by Trujillo at the beginning 🤘🏼
shafta99 i know lol i'm a big fan, but he kind of messed up one time and improvised it like a boss! Cheers man.
He (in my opinion!) is currently the best member of the band. Instrumental that is.
Alexandre Cruz I love his energy. Even the rest of them. I mean at their ages most of us would be flat on our rears watching TV telling the kids to get the remote.
He didn't mess it up, he does that twist on the bass intro on every show they play.
He improvised 2 bars and played a bit with the pedal. Wow...NOT
Everyone's wearing metal outfits, and then there's Kirk wearing a wedding outfit. That's cuz he's already Metal af, so he didn't want to be extra metal, cuz otherwise he'd intimidate the crowd.
Ali Rafiei
Hahahahahah "wedding outfit" hahaha
An. S. xD
Ali Rafiei I think robs the scariest
Dee Boi rob is like part of my top 5 favorite bass players ever. He's amazing.
This comment is stupid
Here we are 35 years later , and Metallica still has that energy and fire. Those of us that took a lot of flack back in the beginning from the hair/pop/rock/metal band fans are laughing now. Metallica is still selling out stadiums world wide. And where are they? Playing county fairs and run down clubs. They are even more relevant in the media and pop culture than back in the day. True professionalism , business savy, talented musicianship and passion for what they do. And most importantly, the ability to evolve. Thank you for being the sound track of my life .
Awesome comment! I feel the same way. Plus all 4 guys are super nice and down to earth and love to meet and chat to their fans - especially Lars! So cool!! My favourite songs on the new record (in no particular order) are Dream No More, Confusion, Spit Out The Bone, Hardwired, Atlas, Rise, Am I Savage?, Moth Into Flame and ManUnKind. :)
I hope they last like Rush did, onward 40 years.
Doran Amatto 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💀💀🤘🤘🤘🤘
Really hope they last atleast a 10 more years together
Love Roberts crab walk lol
yeah, but it doesn´t belong to Metallica, and neither does he. Jason kicked ass, rob is just an idiot.
John John Newstead contributed a lot to Metallica and it goes unnoticed but he was never received well by band mates. Robert is s better fit
***** yea I agree. It's one reason why the band mates chose Robert. He wasn't struggling through their songs during his auditions like the other bassists.
***** no, I know the feeling!
The band decided Rob was the guy because he "made them play better", according to James back in 2003. Rob plays bass with the same speed as Jason, and his technique is similar to Cliff's. The band picked him. Not you, the band. The music is what ends up mattering anyways, and if that's not the criteria by which you say that Rob belongs or doesn't belong, were you really a fan of the band to start with?
0:55 that akward moment when you think rob is the cameran man trying to get a good angle hahah that crab walk
janeswurld Lol I though that too
Metallica remains to this day as one of my all time favorite bands. \m/
LOL... I am indeed. I comment on quite a few metal related videos here on UA-cam.
Whatever acid you took, I want some, cause his voice has only gotten better, it isn't as distorted because he got older, but his voice got better sounding and he learned to sing with his age, but seriously, what are you on, I want two of it.
Nick Kelly no it's not age he actually messed it up pushing notes he couldn't hit it's been like that since the late 90s but far as new music they haven't really been doing that good like Megadeth Black Sabbath and Sebastian bach
Metallica your way past your prime we know you only make new music for money, just stop, please stop.
kornfreak78 or a villain in any 90s movie
James is singing better than ever. Awesome performance!
I agree but i don't really like pronunciation improv and experimenting as much as he did here, still a legend when it's done right.
Don't get me wrong, this performance is awesome, but nothing beats good old Seattle 1989
He had Slipknot on the show?! 😯
This is the best crowd Jimmy has ever had. Amazing.
I always use to listen to this on the way to school when I was in kindergarten
You had an awesome kindergarten.
DaMn
3:02 gave me chills....so good!
When the riff starts chugging at 0:57, I get so pumped. That riff has slapped since the first time I heard it
that's a lot of slapping and pumping.
It's my favorite riff from any band, ever.
The best live version of this song is from Day on the green with Cliff Burton.
seattle 89
Mark Dewar Canada 1986
Mark Dewar
That's a really good vid.
I was there next to the pit. I was there only for Metallica, and maybe only 500 other people. They blew every other band to shame.
I won't argue, but their Woodstock 99 performance overall is one of my absolute favorites.
This is Cliff's song \m/
They are killing it these days!!!! All the band sounds awesome, even lars is kicking ass :0
Chill out dude....
Dude shut the fuk up already, it's my favorite band and I can say whatever the hell I want so, go cry another place or what, did my comment made you butthurt? xD
hahahahahahaha you literally lost your mind here xD take it easy tough guy...
TheEvilPig Really?😱
TheEvilPig My life doesnt make any sense no more
Haha rob looks so funny when he does his crab walk
yeah, but it doesn´t belong to Metallica, and neither does he. Jason kicked ass, rob is just an idiot.
Đorđe Gajanin I honestly dont get why people hate Rob so much. He's a great guy and bassist.
Metal Militia i like rob he's cool but i prefer Jason newsted but then agian its just my taste robs kick ass thoe
You guys prefer Jason Newsted? I prefer Cliff Burton. But then again, I guess we're talking about amazing bassists that are still alive.
A lot of people hate him cuz 'murica!
god good job rob that intro was great, too bad the camera never focused on him
CarimboHanky He's a bass player and he's not lemmy lol it happens lmfao
Theorcman2008 Lemmy wasn't that great of a basist though.
yeah but he had such commanding presence... it was awesome!
q
Because James's persona is undeniable even for the cameraman \m/
Sitting in my living room at 10 in the morning giving myself whiplash while watching this.
Rob Trujillo da beast.
No bells...? NO BELLS?!
Amazing performance btw
Never but I love bells... I want bells..
Marcell Bryan you want balls
Marcell Bryan Christopher Walken says it needs more bell. He's got the fever, and bells are the cure.
0:56 Robert: ooh ooh ah! *Kirk goes nearby Robert* Robert: OOH OOH AHH OOH OOH!!!
lol
3:37 he really sounds like 80's
ex trememind I
Sam Khoshnood every live concert i’ve seen james transforms into 80’s james halfway through the song
He has still got it somewhere..
3:03 even better
Is it just me or is Kirk dressed like he just walked off the set of "Saturday Night Fever"?
HAHAHA
Mandalore Rising
I was scrolling and scrolling looking for someone to comment on his disco suit
The Plague Rages I mean... Doesn’t he always look like that?
Kirk is always good looking
love how happy they look to be performing. Robert provides amazing new energy to the band
BackIntoGear its fun cause hes been in the band for 14 years already, not really new but we get it
It would be fun having a Crab play bass in your band
Ha, hilarious that Rob is still considered the new guy.
Jason's windmill headbanging VS. Rob's crab walk
@@natemarks4241 Jason all day over that bullshit
where the heck did James find his almost old school-ish gritty voice? Seen so many promising performances this year from james.
He always had that gritty voice but i think he's afraid to use it all the time. But he never lost it. And his voice here reminds me of his '93 voice :D
RickGrimes41 well said!
I think he gets the power from his old school battle vest he's been wearing on stage the last few years. There's nothing that makes you feel more metal than your battle vest.
after having gone away sometime in the mid 90s due to certain circumstances, he found it again once he started taking vocal lessons, 20 years later, as well as investing more time in his health. james is closer to the inner peace he has sought since his adolescence.
His voice feels cleaner than ever during this performance why do people commenting he was great it was okay but defeneitly not 80s James
it's been a long time since I've seen crowd like this
This song never gets old. I love every time I see a new performance of it.
I can’t even explain how much I love Metallica. I’m 23 and Metallica is the very first band I remember hearing. The first song I remember is actually For Whom The Bell Tolls. I’ve just always loved them, no matter what they’ve put out. So excited to see them with Slipknot in October.
This live mix is killer.
\,,/
This guy knows whats up.
Tired of going to live videos and the mix completely ruins the video
J Stone The actual live mix itself sucked! Kirks guitar was turned down! Couldn't even hear the solos much! Still sounded great in person though
Everything sounds so heavy and juicy I'm loving this performance.
Kirk to Stylist: "Ever see Saturday Night Fever?"
Stylist: "Say no more fam. I got you."
is it just me or does kirk look like a waiter
Graham Currie is he in abba?
I was getting a more John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever vibe.
Salsa dancer, he had a competition right after this so he didn't want to be late.
He is the waiter; James is the table.
hahahahaha
I wonder if Jimmy is going to get Slipknot on again anytime soon
Husky Husky lol that would be sick but the crowd would be just as boring as usual
Well that's kinda true
Slipknot sucks
Ruan Guilherme wow so edgy bro
FlipperWolf what's wrong with that statement? it's his opinion, there is nothing "edgy" about that
James sounds amazing... holy crap.
The boys are back and playing great! I love Lar's new look. A cross between Papa Smurf and a fisherman. Kirk looks hot in the white suit . James is on point and singing great and Rob is just an Animal. Yes!
Chills. This gives me chills every single time. Damn I love this band.
Now that's a fucken crowed! Barley cells n everyone having a good time.
cokerockstop2 Let me tell you something. Read the description that read at the end. Look at the guests and they include Matt Damon. I believe Kimmel will bump Matt Damon by saying: "Apologies to Matt Damon we ran out of time"
cokerockstop2 i was there and we weren't able to record the first two songs they aired on tv, after the two songs 90% of people were filming the rest of the show
Justin Penate Bastards
cokerockstop2 sorry for my ignorance- but what did you mean when you said "that's a crowd, Barley cells....... and everyone having a good time" what is barley cells? Again sorry I don't know the text lingo. But I'm a huge Metallica fan, going on 27 years now. Saw them open for Ozzy and Van Halen back in the 90's. They destroyed the Monsters of Rock stage, thank god VH didn't have to get on stage for like 2-3 hours after Metallica stayed everyone in the crowd. Awesome
Steve Ronan That's awesome! I was just saying that hardly any cell phones are out and everyone seems like they're having a good time.
A lot of Metallica's songs seem to played in the same key when performed live I discovered last year
David Lance yea, they tuned down half a step for live performances starting in the 90s since it's easier on James' voice
Affan Ahmad got an mp3 with a 90s fade to black in B flat minor. and A flat minor. then slowed down a bit tooo.... it's so good.
Affan Ahmad How does that work? I never really understood that.
Most of Metallica's songs are in the key of E. When they detune to Eb live, obviously every song there is gets lowered by a semi note.
Every Band does it.
i love when Het does the crashes in the beginning. you can tell he's pumped
Lars is really keeping the tempo nowadays!
Rafael Oliveira he started to fast but then realized he sucks and actually played correctly
"you gotta play the songs without bad words guys" producer-2016
William Perez I don't think anyone will ever tell them that a again after they played so what uncensored on live tv
Rob was a great addition to the band. Sounds great and his energy keeps the rest of the guys on their toes.
One of my favorite Metallica songs, it will always bring back memories of rolling hot across the Iraqi desert in '91 while this was playing over the vehicle's internal radio.
Lamb of God and Metallica on Kimmel? That's why Jimmy is my favorite
Enter Quicksand is my favourite followed by Sanitation and The Unforbidden
you mean "Enter Sandman?" or there might be a joke I'm just not getting?
RareHarmony Idiot
I like Pastor of Muppets
Love how amped up everybody is!!!! Love When great artists can still kick music's Ass.
That bass tone is NARLY as hell !!!!!!!
I was there it was sick had so much fun for some reason sounds more edited than how it sounded live!
David Navarrete how it always is the Mics are messed with to keep peaking if they were not it would be a overpowering sirening sound due to the mic peaking
Metallica is STILL one of the very best metal groups of all time! Damn James can sing! My all time favorite group. Metallica forever, man!
Wow this might be the best late night TV show crowd ever
God please have Metallica come to Milwaukee on their North America tour. I must see them live before I die.
James voice is better now then we'll maybe ever an I've seen them live 7 times! Rock on!
I really have to stop with those random fills.
LMFAO this nigga made a separate account just for this occasion! XD
I've had this account for years. Next time somebody calls me the n-word, I will sue their ass like I did with Napster
well napster just dissed you. they have a picture of master of puppets right smack on the front cover of the website
+What is Life actually as a band Metallica sued napster.
For real you really do gotta stop it sounds awful & you're screwing up the whole tempo of the song for everyone
0:58 Robert 's ICONIC steps
Kirk looks so CLASSY... Love it
James is the GOD unbodied... Love You
Lars is Fire
"ABSOLUTEEEEELLLLYYYYY"
why did i laugh so hard at that haha
Kirk must have been going out to the disco afterwards.
James' voice is coming back.
I really love how robert trujillo isn't a standard boring bass player but just is himself and just has some fcking fun!
When you got a metal performance at 7 but gotta get to a wedding at 8
Damn James still has that country metal voice he picked up in the mid 90's..................
its ok to cry dude
Fortworths haha! So sensitive
jedisurf26 Like your a-hole.
Fortworths yes
Hold me
I wonder who braids robs hair?
you wonder too much
Darth Green your mom
Agnus Déi wow so original
such much bunch
Mad respect for jimmy to put this small band on tv i hope they make it sometimes!
Man does this remind me of their older performances. It gives me that same vibe, just watching a band who is simply on top of their game.
Great voice James!
This is actual music. The "music" nowadays is trash.
Squashjoshhh couldn't agree more
If you can even call it that
QuickCinematography rock isn't the only good form of music, the future is now new styles emerge good music comes from all timeframes
QuickCinematography Metallica might be old, but their music will always live on.
Metal will be a dominating genre of music till the end of time
I did let something like Jazz or metal replace rock but no not Nicki Minaj shaking her but or songs about hoes and pillies
2016 and still a spectacle. Best is yet to come US tour is on its way. Lets show the rest of the world we still got it
Honestly, its been a long time that they showed this kind of energy on stage !!! Love thiss......!!!!
saw a small mosh pit there..must be a first on the show
Azuan Syakirin 2 big ones formed during master of puppets, it was insane
I love kirks new guitar!
me too!!! i love it! and i don't found nothing about it... nothing in ESP website, nothing in ESP instagram... nothing...
Saw my 1st concert at 16 (1989) which was 'The Cult' & 'Metallica.' I was hooked!!!
4:18 when its the first day of school
hell yeah I love Metallica
Kirk is totally getting into wearing those disco get ups isnt he..
I love when James shouts ABSOLUTELY
Who in here thought in 2003 after all these years his voice would be so perfect?saw them at rock am ring 2003 for the first time and I never thought after 14 years his voice would be so great..
greatest band ever
Awesome performance
That's a pretty decent crowd for a tv broadcast. Kudos!
when you play at 8pm but have to be on for the night shift at 9pm
Wow. What song was Lars playing?!
ffs he cant even keep the beat
Nicolás Cassulo ?
Wear headphones
Right ear: Kirk
Left ear: James
Is no one going to talk about the fact that Kirk had an out of body experience at the end and shredded so smooth it was like butter?
The 8th notes really get those hi hats dancing
what would Kirk Do Without his Wah Pedal ???
joelioes sound amazing
joelioes You're probably not a Metallica fan are you? Kirk has played and still plays plenty of solos without wah both in studio and live. Still, sounds great with or without it.
Metallica still got it
Mr. Jimmy Kimmel you sir have earned the loyalty and respect of the metal comunity.
Yup. What a beautiful night!!!! Metallica still rules!!!! No matter what!!!!! Yeah baby. Love em so!!!;. Been a long time since 1981
Wish James voice sounded like it did in the 80s :(
Anthony Hernandez at least he sounds better than 10 years ago
jimmy bring back megadeth
Its nice to see Jimmy giving these new up and coming bands a chance
I watch all the Metallica Live stuff, and this is one of the better performances of this song I've seen!
I miss Jason. Rob should've stayed with ST... and I hate it when he squats.
lars is still learning...........................................................................................
chaseme81871 That's the dumbest comment I have ever seen
Ha like you could do any better lol
As is every other musician on the planet man.
You do know Jason Newsted was still tajing lessons when Metallica was at its peak
Lars is probably the richest drummer in the world and has made more money than millions of drummers and have better songs and contributions to music history than billions of people ever will and ever have, and he's a fantastic drummer and you sure as hell cant beat him in a drum off at age 60, smartass =)
I'm so happy and blessed that I was able to attend this. My first time seeing Metallica, front row & free tickets. Amazing experience.
Did you hear James yell Lucifer between songs?
Metallica NEVER disappoints!!! Greatest Band of ALL TIME!!!!
