You get some interesting sides of the guys when they do Howard Stern's and Jimmy Kimmel's shows. Good chemistry. I can believe they were okay with the puppetry; don't think Jimmy had to do major convince.
Honestly it’s because the guys are way more laid back now but they’ve always been goofy. Everyone remember James playing with the remote control car? Kirk on the banjo with Jason? They’ve always had this side to them, they’re just showing it more than they used to.
I hear some criticizing Metallica for doing this, but after 40 years, I think it's great that they have some fun. It was neat to see that side of them.
The people criticizing this are the actual lame ones. This was a good, light humored skit and you can tell the guys were legitimately having fun. If you’re a real fan, that’s all you should want for them.

As Dave Mustaine, I can confirm that this actually happened. I actually wrote this sketch in the early 80s, but then my former band stole it.
We love you Dave 💪💪💪

4:23 Robert Trujillo kicking over a pantomime tree while mastering a puppet is just brilliant :D
It's so nuts that Robert is now Metallicas longest serving bassist. 20 years this year!
And that they have been reduced to doing this stupidity
Longest serving, but not the best.

Robert has some comedic timing in him !
