I think anyone, drummer, guitarist, vocalist or just someone screaming in their car KNOWS THIS SONG IS JUST SO MUCH FUN
It’s the best song to jam in the CAR!! 😎🤘🏼
It's soooo much fun to play..
I've lost my voice (yes, always in the car) more than a few times to this song.
I'M YOOUUUU 😫🗣😂
Yesssss 🤘
The sound quality on this performance is just out of this world. Give the sound engineer a promotion, Howard.
I’m betting that the sound engineer was from Metálica Team
Sound quality on every Howard Stern performance is prestine
@@AlmaRockeraOficial
Probably not, Howard’s sound for guest artists has always been pretty good. That’s why there are so many iconic performances from his show.
@@raywideman7157 Metallica always have their team. I assure you
That's because they locked Lars in a cage while the rest of the band did soundcheck. LOL jk
I just love how nicely healthy and happy James looks. We love you man, glad to see you like this !
It won’t last if he doesn’t repent of his sins before God… it is called the sin of unbelief.. do you have it?
What was wrong with him before ?

5:33 What a breathtaking performance done by James there. Absolutely amazing.
James looks better than he ever has. Great to see Metallica doing well.
@@jomarkwh What are you saying?? Elton made huge compliments to Metallica, James even cried...
@@jomarkwh Well, mr Elton's music is rubbish all around.
Are you serious? He doesn't look well at all, and the tuning down has to do with his voice ain't high anymore (sad but true).
@@NoneOfyourBusiness468 They started to tune down the songs in 1994, and obviously he won't look as good as 15 years ago.
Yes, I was surprised at how good and healthy he looked. He looked refreshed, in a natural, not "cosmetic" way.
The drums have always been my favorite part of this song
Lars hits his drums so damned hard and never misses a beat during songs.
Tbh, it could be better, but ok
@@jimboslice5647Dime que es sarcasmo xD
Why would I lie? I have been watching Metallica perform since the 80s.
@@jimboslice5647 bevuto???
Whoever did the sound for this needs a hell of a raise
The drums just hit you in the guts🤘🤘🤘🤘
I agree !! just brutal !!
Sound replacement is no rocket science.
What's a sound replacement anyway?
Ya. it's perfect. You almost can't hear the bass. :P
Unlike the snare drum in St Anger which hits you in the inside of your brain.
the howard stern show always has incredible sound; whoever mixes the performances is amazing at their job
Fla Fla Flow Hi
James' voice may not be as tough as it was in the record, but they've definitely still got it. After 40 years.
He sounds frickin great at 58
Not hard vocals. Try GnR!!
He's actually singing it tho! So much more dynamic and fun! Originally....to use a quote from James himself...he was mostly shouting in key.... These days he is so much more expressive!
Elk meat, and clean Colorado livin'. (Plus lots of 💰)
@@Agsded1973 shouting in key did sound awesome tho
Massive props to whoever miked and tuned that drum kit. That's one HELL of a sound!
It's more in the compression and eq. Micing drums is super simple.
Its the way he hits mostly too
Are we really not gonna talk about the voice that James does at 5:40?? That devilish "Pay the price"...awesome!!
The king Diamond influence
Sounds horrid. Should stick to the script. Not good at all!

think you have to be humble if you want to be a Metallica bassist lol
I'm pretty sure his mic and bass are not even plugged in

It’s hard to believe in the last 30 years there hasn’t been another band that compares to them.
Well there is Megadeth

No, they're untouchable
not even close , dave isnt meant to be a vocalist maybe if they had someone else for that but Dave's ego wouldnt allow such thing @@chaso6822
Megadeth :v
I think Howard Stern gets the best out of artists, I think it's a relaxed environment performers excel in
The mixing in that studio is no joke. This sounds as good as any recording I've heard, sound-wise, even if it's not quite as hot as the original recording, which is a hard thing to match decades later. It's a new version!
@@foto21 you gotta remembe analog is far way different from digital it's hard to replicate nowdays
Lucky SoB ?! At least he shares it with us!
One of the coolest songs of all time. Have always loved Kirk's solo in this one too.
The solo is master class. Its perfect. Everytime I listen to it Im thinking "Kirk is a professional".
Oh my god, James sounds so much better than the last year and Kirk's guitar is so cool.. And even I can see from here how much Lars enjoys playing that, I love it too.

He does sound better but unfortunately he's losing his chops not Mustaine level losing it though.
@@gal419 He is 58, so this is kinda normal.
@@gal419 His playing sounds great, what do you mean?
This was the first Metallica song I ever heard when I was growing up, it basically got me into them. Still great all these years later!
I think we can all agree that this is the best Metallica has sounded in years.
I disagree. The 2019 tour through S&M2 is the best they’ve sounded in years. Not that this isn’t good because it is, but it’s not as good IMO
they sounded better in 1984
Home office makes you rethink everything... it's good for all bands :)
I just want a god damn album already
@@DillyDilly13 Same here, we all do.
One of the greatest metal songs ever written!
Metallica look and sound very healthy, on fire... the well oiled machine.
Classic and timeless
Alot of handlers behind the scene. Cranking up the delay effects exactly when needed! That ending was sweet
@@jakefriesenjake yes that's been the case for years. But that has nothing to do with them sounding tight. Nothing can save you if you're sloppy.
Is this a load or reload reference?
Healthy? What does that mean these days?
Great live version, raw and not over processed.
I am drooling over Kirks guitar
I remember being 13 too

James' voice is amazing. my favorite voice in metal.
James went into a split personality during the “pay the price” line.
He went into Jason mode there
He could do some serious voice acting jobs

Thankk you so much James and the gang for brinigng us your great music and rocking the entire stage despite of your age.
kirk's guitar. Holy moly
This is not the first time they have been to Howard's studio, and everytime it sounds amazing. Howard Stern's set seems to have top notch recording and mixing.
Still rocking after 40 years
I LOVE how they've slowed their tempo down a bit. They played this song and others wayyy too fast for many years.
Sure, but this is a tiny bit too slow, even for Sad but true.
I genuinely think that’s due to Lars’ inability to actually keep consistent time. Even though he’s been playing with Metallica for 40 years, he still rushes and drags at different times. He also rushes fills quite regularly so they don’t quite sit tight.
To help James with his voice.
Agreed!!!
Slower means more detail. I'll always take behind the beat versus rushing.
I love Metallica so much and I’m so happy to hear them on The radio
The boys are sounding fantastic.
The mixing is great!...i wouldnt believe this was on a talk show if i didnt see it.. sounds really good!
After all these years and they can still bring a smile to my face ☺️ pure awesomeness.
They all sound so on point here. Love that they can still tear it up!
Kirk's new ESP is KILLER!!
Dammmmmm love it,Metallica for ever!!!! Greetings from south America Uruguay!!!

Awesome version , James's vocals are amazing !
Lars's snare sounds on point !
Haha, below someone says "Lars snare sounds so electronic...", so...Opinions evidently differ. ; P
@@mungofinalfi4480 I would take that as a compliment, too. Means it sounds perfect.
Lars has become better in time the drums lars took the time to practice i think finally!

You have sound replacement to thank.
This song sounds better every time they play it. Masterpiece!
Just INCREDIBLE. Gives me chills that they continue to be this Amazing!!!! James sounds in his prime.
He did a damn fine job on the vocals

Kirk looks straight down the middle between Hendrix and Scorpions vibes
And Aerosmith 😂
Invoking Cliff's spirit with the bottom bells

And boys, I dont have to say a thing. ❤❤
Surely the band gets major anxiety when Lars starts throwing in a random snare fill? Jeez, I bloody do!
I think this is a joke but no they don't, him throwing a fill in there doesn't affect your timing when you can count
@@Drewitall54 how are those knee pads fitting you?
He fucked up For Whom the Bell Tolls on the album.. Drumming was all screwed up on the intro
His timing is truly his own 😉

One of the metal genre’s best songs. Monumental.
I love hearing almost any music on Howard Stern,,I don't know if it's the sound crew or the acoustics in the room or a combination of the two ..but the sound is always perfection. Metallica forever!!
Definitely more consistent background vocals makes this song, and most Metallica songs, more ominous and awesome.
Metallica's sound always sounds epic on Howard Stern.
I'm pretty sure it was Bob Rock that suggested to Slow it down and Tune it to D Standard ?
Yep, everything on the album was written in E standard. Bob rock thought it sounded a little too samey throughout. Sad But True was the obvious choice because of its heaviness, but then he also got them to do The God That Failed in Eb Standard for more variation.

Still got funky timing issues lol
I lmao so hard. Had to explain to my wife lol
Lars shaky timing is as present as always!

Cool performance, the song is awesome.
I thought James would explain how he used the baritone guitar to make those riffs even heavier.
James looks amazing, and sounds better than he ever has.. Love this little Metallica kick i've gone on lately.. always nice to take a step back and appreciate the best, and their past
James is looking really healthy here. Love to see it.
The sound engineer is outstanding~
James is looking a lot better since S&M 2!!

They all look so happy and healthy! Loving every bit of this!
They slowed it down made it sound even heavier, I had the stank face the whole time haha and what is this? Lars playing in time with the rest of the band?? The world must be coming to an end lmao
It's because he's not in front of a crowd - he usually stays pretty well on time if he's not full of adrenaline.
@@anuntsingh fr tho
