A bit of advice I myself would have found usefull when I bought my first snake!
I'm sorry about me sounding funny, I'm a bit sick at the moment.
And no, she does not have mites. The black dots are a part of her pattern. Go search banana ball python or coral glow ball python on google, and you'll see :-)

I recently got my first snake, a baby snow corn snake, I have named her Strawberry. I have had her for about 2 weeks and have started handling her, I am still a bit nervous handling, but she seems to be patient with me lol She has eaten thawed frozen pinkies twice and hasn't had any problems, I feel very lucky as I know people who had trouble with their snakes eating at first. Your channel was such a huge help when I was doing research before I got her! Thank you so much!

OhHiNebulae I recently rescued a corn snake that was a month old and had yet to eat. His owners were trying to feed him crickets. He's so small he can't take a pinky however I've got him eating thawed pinky legs. So far so good 😁 awesome job with your corn.

Advice I have is 1) get a laser temp gun. They are very accurate and easy to use. 2) there are power switches that can be set based on temp. If you get one, put the probe one it where your snake lays so that the reading is more accurate.

    • @emeliesandberg4308
      @emeliesandberg4308 4 роки тому +2

Nice tips! However if you have a burrowing snake set ur probe between ur heating mat and the enclosure and adjust the temp with temp gun. Otherwise ur snake might dislocate it when burrowing.

You are adorable - I mean this as politely as possible! Your enthusiasm and sincere care for both your pets as well as letting us viewers know what's going on is so appreciated, and "rubs off" in the way that it just makes me feel like you truly care.
I've been wanting a snake since I was a child, and watching your videos helps so much in taking notes that I feel are important for a first time snake owner - which I hope to be at least by next year. Thanks for all of your videos! I'm glad I discovered your channel!

My advice is to keep a journal for each of your snakes. Record dates and data for every weigh in, feeding, and beginning and end of shed. This data can be incredibly useful for keeping track of your snakes growth rate and general health.

I'm getting a ball python for my birthday! It's tomorrow!! Should I get a normal morph for $10 or an albino for $100? (Male or female, they are babies) Btw great timing on this video! Love your videos!! :D

    • @JossersJungle

MrCrappyUploads You should get the one you like the best! If you like the normal best go for that, but if the Albino is more your favorite go for that one! There is not much difference between male or female, except the females do tend to get bigger than the males. Happy early birthday!! :-)

I would recommend getting the right thermostat too, dimmerstat for light bulbs, on/off stat for heatmats, and pulse proportional for ceramics.
Also you can get day/night versions too for closer matching of their natural environment.
And I would say put a guard around any spotlight/ceramic heater (definitely for ceramic though, as they are blisteringly hot to touch), since snakes can typically reach high places even if they are terrestrial like ball pythons.

I really appreciate your videos, they are extremely helpful for myself. Being a reptile lover, especially ball pythons, it kills me to see people mistreat their amazing pets. With your videos, I helped save a 3 year old python that was given away to an uneducated reptile fan. The new owner had nothing for this poor baby! No tank, heat mat, water dish, no place for her to hide. He just kept this poor snake on his shoulders all the time, except to feed... He used a bucket for feeding, because that's how the previous owner feed her. Everytime the owner fell asleep, Slivlyon, the snake, would escape and hide in the couch for everyone to sit on her unknowingly... So I had enough of his animal abuse and forced your videos and some other youtubers at him to get the point. He realized he was out of his league for owning a snake like a ball python, because he had no job, and happily gave her up to a family member of mine, who is experienced. She is happy healthy, and except for a scar from hiding in the couch, beautiful. Thank you 💜. I one day hope to be as amazing of a reptile owner as you.

At one time, I had two ball pythons one being a male pastel and the other being a female albino. After feeding the male his mice, I had the scent of the second mouse on my hands. When I fed the female albino ball python, she inadvertently bit me on the right hand because of the scent of the mouse from the previous feeding. She left a good bite on my hand and it drew blood. It also hurt a bit too ! Another good piece of advice is to always wash your hands after handling the feeder mice and/or rats before you feed the next snake.

Hi! Thanks for the informative video! So, this is going to be long, but I have some questions! I just got my sand boa, Sev, yesterday at a reptile expo. I think he may have been a little stressed as he had probably been handled quite frequently during the day by other people at the expo and had little space to burrow in. He was not able to be put into his new environment for an hour or two which probably only stressed him further, on top of my showing family the new addition. He burrowed right down and poked his head out, almost in a content way, and quickly went back under. Hours later I took him out to check on him again, and he was a bit jumpy and jerked towards me when I tried to pick him back up. I put him back in his terrarium, and since then, he hasn't budged from his spot. When I woke up this morning I looked under the tank and saw his body lined up in the corner where the heating pad is, and he's been in the same position, and it is now night. I intend to feed him tomorrow, but I know that you shouldn't handle your snakes when they have been put into a new environment for a few days. Sorry for the long comment, but I have two main questions: Do you think he's okay? And, so I don't bother him tomorrow or spook him again, is there any specific way I should dig him out from the substrate or lure him to the surface? Thanks!

I got a boa a few weeks ago and I'm having a very difficult time with him. I was given the snake from my friend who had the snake left at his house by a roommate who was neglecting him and this snake was always very friendly until I brought him home. I fed him good the last couple of weeks and gave him some things that he didn't have before. He was so nice and now he wants to bite me. People said give it a week or 2 but I'm on week 3 and he is pissed. My python was sweet the first day and always has been. I just don't know what to do.

Hi! I have a question. I got a Mexican black kingsnake almost 2 weeks ago. He is only about a foot long so probably still very young. I've been giving him space and he is starting to come out more and more, and now comes out and flicks his tongue out at me when I'm near his tank. I would like to start handling him but when would be the best time to do it? As in, should I wait for a time when he's already out? Or could I take him out from under a hide? If he tries to get away should I not pursue? Or should I try to take him out of the tank anyway? I'm not sure if there will come a time when he'd just be like "Yep go ahead and pick me up" and I should just wait for that, or if I need to handle him once a week whether he likes it or not so that he gets used to it. With mammals they warm up to you and start asking for affection when they're ready, but with snakes I don't know if that happens or if I just need to be a little, gently, pushy to get him used to me. Thanks!

Hi there! I have always wanted a snake, a ball python in particular but I had a question for you! I know that snakes don't particularly enjoy being handled but they tolerate it, but I would really enjoy handling my snake at least once a week. Is that too much for a ball python? Also, what kind of time limit should the handling sessions be? Can I just chill out and watch Tv for an hour with the snake or is it more like a few minutes? Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks! Love your videos =D

      Hi!
      Great questions!
In general I take out my snakes 1-2 a week for a couple of minutes, but sometimes for longer periods like 20-30 minutes (rarely though, don't have the time). So I would say you could definitely take it out 1-2 if not more a week and have it out for a max of 30 min. but again, this is just what I think. If your snake is doing well and doesn't show signs of stress (not eating, overly active, angry etc.) you should be good :-)

Do you by any chance have recommendations for a timer? I've been shopping around but all I see are ones with bad reviews, so I don't know which one to get.

Does loud noise typically affect stress level in snakes, specifically the California King Snake?

You an get a thermostat with the ability to do a nighttime temperature drop. That's a better option for most people who's room temp might not be comfy for a snake.

Quick question. I've never had much trouble with feeding my snakes but i do prefer feeding frozen, it does have a lot of benefits to it considering my snake aren't exactly hunters. (My Mexican black kingsnake just takes the mouse, he doesn't strike at it he just grabs it from me.) My ball python (my first snake) did not eat for a week (he was eating live before I bought him) and I waited another week not knowing I needed to give him some space for a week or two. (He eventually ate and now eats in about thirty seconds) I just recently bought a Lucy, and she's not eating for me, I've had her a little over two weeks, and i tried feeding her twice. Normally thats when things start to go south in my experience. Do you have any tips on what I should do to feed her? (She was on live before, I bought her from this place called the Chicago reptile house, they are basically breeders with a storefront which I think is really cool.)

I have a corn snake and he has a day lamp and a night (red) lamp and a small heat pad on the bottom. Mid temp is low 80 in the middle of the tank. Is it ok for me to turn the red light off at night?

I have a 4 month old bp that I got a month ago. I've been petting him in his terrarium and have only taken him out once for about 5 minutes. When I did take him out, he tensed up and looked like he was about to strike. I have a friend that's coming to my house tomorrow and wants to see him and I really don't want her to be bit or be scared of him. I'm also a little nervous about handling him because of that. Do you think he'll strike if I take him out for a couple minutes?

This is more of a question: when you get a new snake, and you dont know if its been feed anytime in the week, should you wait till the start of a new week? Or try feeding it then and there? (I dont not own any type of snakes but i would love to when am older) ❤️

I just found out by reading your facebook name that you're danish (so am i) so i was wondering if you know any vets in hovedstadsområdet? i hope you live there or at least know some, but if not its fine. I just find it incredibly difficult to find any danish good sources on caring for snakes and what to do in cases of emergency. Do you have any advice for snake keeping in Denmark? I hope you'll reply it'd mean a lot to me, since i'm strongly considering getting a pueblan milk snake for my first pet snake, and your videos have helped me a lot
