Reminds me of a cat we had years ago. Jax was very vocal during bath time and would be spread eagle on the side of the tub yelling "Help", "Mom", and "No".
I had a cat just like this adopt my family when I was a kid. He just showed up on our porch one day, helped himself inside the house and then never left. He sat on his own chair at the table during family meals, was always an angel and even protected our pet gerbils from the other cats when they escaped their enclosure. Truly a great breed of cat.
@@sylvisterling8782 nobody I know uses "petted". it might be grammatically wrong, but this is one of those cases where either word is widely accepted and used, no sense being pedantic about it. language evolves
I don't think her tail wagging was her being upset as much as it was her being overstimulated by the constant brushing. Such a sweetheart! I bet she feels like silk 🥹
I like that the owner asked what they could do better. People make mistakes or don’t know everything, and it’s good when they can admit it and want to improve.
she LOVES being brushed!! what a sweet cat, i’m glad i got to see her being pampered and hope her owners can maintain her coat with what you taught in the video
Nope, I'm sorry but I dont' agree. They might purr when anxious, they would never expose the belly though. Usually they'd purr but stay in what I call the "brick position", you wouldn't be able to budge them, let alone touch their belly! This was a very mild and well disposed cat.
Cats purr for a bunch of reasons! Self-soothing for mental stimuli is one reason, self-soothing for pain is another, happiness is another... In this case, I'd say she's happy.
My cat Ivan was this sweet, I could bathe him and brush him, in the end I had to shave areas. He lived to be 21 years old and passed over rainbow bridge last September. He also was a black cat with medium hair ...I miss him.
This sweet, beautiful girl is the definition of "Uncomfy, but dealing". I applaud her bravery. One thing I learned though my 30ish years of having kitties, is purring ~can~ be a sign of stress. The tail whaps were definitely showing she was less than thrilled, but I'm sure she is grateful for the makeover.
I don’t think that she was too enthusiastic about being in her carrier. If she soiled it on her way in, it’s possibly an indication that travelling doesn’t agree with her. Bless her.
Ikr? Why would her owner not dedicate a few minutes/week to brush out some of that undercoat? What's the point of having her if you won't spend a little time caring for her?
@@opalsirius8484considering most people work full time jobs 6-7 days out of the week it might be hard to constantly be brushing her coat, and they may only be able to get around to it when she’s bathed sadly. it’s also hard to know if you’re getting everywhere and there may be spots you forget/accidentally go over
@@opalsirius8484 You’re absolutely right. I prefer shorthairs for this very reason. Longhairs are really pretty, but you really have to dedicate a chunk of your time to keep their coats clean and tidy.
@@veralindqvist3944 yup!! I think that's what a lot of people fail to figure out is just how much maintenance a longer haired cat is😅 like I have a short hair and she literally requires no grooming what so ever bc she's still young so she doesn't struggle to do it on her own yet
What a gentle soul. She reminds me of my dad’s cat Molly, just the sweetest black cat ever. My parents were both dog people before they met Molly, but she was so wonderful she converted them both and we have had cats ever since!
My vet was downright confused by my 13yo ragdoll. He was chill, enjoying his pumpkin hoodie and was calmed by me holding his face 😂 when he had to get blood drawn. He slept for an hour waiting on his appointment after a mean dog lol. Came back with the vitals of a cat half his age, so not only healthy but crowned the Vet’s office’s favorite. The entire 10 person staff at the office dropped into his room to see him bc he was so friendly and handsome that they called each other by to say hi 😂❤Favorite part of his appointment was when she tried to give him treats I told her that my cat didn’t give a fluff about those and just handed him to her like some toy 🤣 She took the cat and was baffled I just did that and he didn’t care 🔥
We have a ragdoll as well. She's not that well behaved with groomers and vets. She's not a loving, cuddly type, she's extremely playful instead. I am a little jealous, but I love her anyway.
I have a Ragdoll, too. His brother just passed 😢, but he was 17 1/2, and still was pretty, and loved to love...he definitely was hurting his last few days, but he still took time to groom his bro. He purred right up to his last breath--literally. So now we just have the one, MeMe (because it's all about him, all the time.) He isn't the brightest bulb, and he will fight the bath (in fact, for a not very bright cat, he's quite resourceful.) According to the vet, we likely have several more years with this one, if his senior kitty labs/tests are any indication. I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this, as he is incredibly vocal, and I'm pretty sure he's missing his brother...but I guess it's good to know he's not screaming in pain. Truly, best, healthiest cats.
My cat is also a vet office favorite. Not a ragdoll (miscellaneous domestic shorthair probably with some oriental in there), but a very chill, sweet, friendly, tolerant cat. In my family's 5 years of owning him so far, I've never heard him hiss or growl once. He's an absolute angel and I love him to pieces, and at least one vet tech has joked about stealing him.
I'm in the middle of furiously packing up for a sudden move out of my apartment and I've stopped everything for a rejuvenating, de-stressing video of a purring cat getting groomed. I needed this!
That was genius of you to do that! Good for you for taking care of your mental health during stress.. I hate moving soo much. I hope it all went smoothly and your comfy and settle into the new digs 🍀
It's the "happy hoody"!😂 she puts them on the cats and dogs to protect their ears from the sounds/dryer but also provides comfort for them bc of the light pressure around their heads! Sometimes they like them and sometimes they don't
Thank you for putting the mic up to her so we could hear her purr. My eldest kitty Loki adored being brushed and would purr just like her. Loki crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago and it was deeply comforting to hear a purr that sounded so much like his. ❤
lol she was "nope, not getting in the box, you might brush some more". What a great cat. Mine loves brushing too, but gets excitable to the point of biteyness and that stops the brushing
But they need to get a brush for the kitty:) i actually enjoy brushing my cats and they love brushing too, so we have these special moments, it’s like a SPA ritual, they come for the brush when I show it to them:)
We have a really calm home but just one cat is calm. One is a rescue cat and is really friendly but mostly because he is scared. The other is also friendly but a little crazy crack head. I foster rescue cats, literally every cat has a different personality. There are cats out of really bad homes that are really calm and friendly and one that’s not.
I feel like she loves brushing so much that she pays attention and knows when it was time to move to a new area. It almost looked like she was thinking about switching sides, right as you mentioned it, and then she gave you her belly at the right times too.
My Siamese when she was older used to get hairballs and mats and eventually it was easier to just shave her during the summer. She really liked one place I went to that would shave and leave about 1/2 an inch, kind of returning her to a shorthair, minus the mats and oily skin. Her mats would stay on top of her skin, though, so shaving under them was a snap.
Her coat is called "Black Smoke"--isn't it gorgeous. I love it. That was a pleasure to watch. What a little doll. I find that afterwards cats actually love to be cleaned up, even having been shaved instead of bathed. They love the feeling of not being matted, and they enjoy cleaning themselves so much better because it's easier for them.
I took a little black smoke long-hair off the neighbor's farm a few weeks ago because his little eyes were stuck shut with eye goop. He's going to a a huge, gorgeous kitty and I hope I can find him a home soon because he's absolutely terrorizing my elderly cats.
One of the sweetest cats I ever had was a black smoke medium haired kitten I adopted from the pound. Sadly, he passed from FIP just six months later;shortest time that I've ever had a cat, but he was still one of the most memorable (current kitty is 19). RIP dear Atticus Pye!
I didn't know I needed this content in my life - Please keep on grooming cats and sharing it with us - it's sooooo good for us who can't have cats in our homes. Thanks for making me happy!!!!
I don’t think so. Cats also purr to comfort themselves when they’re stressed, which is what I believe is happening here. The tail smacking the table shows her anxiety. Still a very sweet kitty.
@@lastfirst5863 true, most cats don't like anyone messing with their back and furiously hate the blower but let's be honest: the cat is too fat to care or put any real resistance...

That was one intelligent and trusting cat. The cat knew she was being helped, and sucked up the minor irritation of the work, for the long term payoff.
@@TV-8-301 There's a 'panting' quality to a stressed-purr. Almost like someone having a panic-attack, and that vocalisation that can occur (I'm medical, so I come across these things!)
@@dsmith5940seconding this description. I'm not medical, but can confirm my cats would stress-purr at the vet, and this is a good description. Happy purring has a dozing quality to it. Long, deep breaths.
Most of the purring we humans get to experience is "happy " purring. Purrs can help a cat not only to destress but to heal itself generally. Purrs are also beneficial to humans in a number of ways, making kitties phenomenal companions.
That purr! Such a good girl. I had a good boy once who let 10 vet students perform a full eye exam each, in a row without any complaint. But I can't imagine him being THIS good with a groomer.
My boy (who turns 15 today 🎂) got a large piece of hair stuck in his third eyelid. The vet had to practically waterboard him with the eye flush before it came loose, and he purred the whole time 😂
Yeah, my car does the same. She was a very fearful cat at the shelter. Like straight up shivering as she tries to wedge herself into a corner. But she would be purring when they grabbed her to pick her up.
I agree, I'm a Canadian also from Windsor, Ont, and I think she is a very patient and wonderful person. Too bad Vanessa should contact Linda Blair's World Heart foundation, I think they would make a great team :)
@@cheolacarnitas2682 Don't you think that was just a bit of a petty comment? Like seriously...this person could be a Grandmother or an elderly person. Give this one a pass huh?

My cat, who is mostly white, found a way to open the fireplace door and decided to change into a black cat. The amount of soot and charcoal that came off her was insane. I bathed her three times and it still took weeks for all the black to come off.
when I was around 2 years old, I did the same and to top it off, I proceeded to eat some of the charcoal. I'm told bathing me took awhile as well as cleaning my mouth out. perhaps I'm part cat 🤣
My black and white cat Hermione did the same. We were trying to capture her to take her to the vet, and she escaped into the fireplace. We hadn't used it in ages, so it wasn't hot at all, but it was still filled with ash. She was so dirty, she made little ashy paw prints on the exam table at the vet. Much to her displeasure, they offered to bathe her and we accepted. They did a pretty good job cleaning her up! XD
I had a pure white cat growing up named Spot. He got his name because he would sleep under my parents' cars and come out with black spots on his back 😂
@@niece7959 lol, yeah. She eat some of it too and then threw up black on the rug. It actually happened twice, cause I thought is was a fluke that she could open it the first time but she legitimately knows how. I had to board the opening up behind the glass.
My cat is like this too; she’s never once scratched, bitten, swiped, hissed, or growled at me. She won’t even play bite me. Super docile and kind. My favorite kind of cat!
My cat Oliver was like that too, with me. However, if anyone tried to mess with him when he was on my lap or shoulder, it was a different story. He would smack anyone who tried (no claws though. He was extremely good about not scratching people).
I had a red tabby maine coon girl who was like this too ❤️ so sweet, soft and never ever lashed out. She passed away from what was probably cancer a few years ago. Now I have a calico who is also very loving but if there is something she does not like, she becomes very spicy 😆😅 her vet say she is not surprised, calicos and tortise have a reputation for being sassy 😌
My darling Sami is the same - she's a rescue, amd she has never once scratched or bitten me...even when she has to get put on the cat carrier (which she hates with a vengeance), she doesn't turn on me. I sometimes wish she would, as she goes in to a bit of a freeze response at the vet. But i guess thats just her temperament- She's such a big lovebug and seeks affection to regulate her stress.
It's a joy watching someone so calm, capable and professional, really relaxing. You do such an amazing job 👋🏼🏴 Used to have a short hair that would regularly shed a kittens worth of fur regularly - it must be itchy for them and feel so much better afterwards.
I had a manx cat with spina bifida who loved to be brushed, because when she got old she could no longer do her grooming herself. Our daily brushing sessions were such a wonderful memory in her sunset of life. This reminds me of her so much. She would happily let me do anything so long as a slicker brush was involved! I miss my old lady! Thanks Vanessa! 💛💛💛💛
I am so sorry for your loss of your precious pet. I am glad that it sounds like you have come to a point where the grief of your loss has been out shadowed by the memories of the joyful times you shared! Hold all those beautiful memories close to your heart!!
@@El_Nombre-e3x imagine if you have fur like that all over you body, it would be much harder to scratch an itch through all of it. She must have dry/itchy skin because of that and it feels amazing to brush the itches away through all the fur.
That purring is a 100% indicator the she absolutely loved the grooming and her laying on her side and showing her belly shows that she is definitely comfortable with you.
That de-shedding comb has been an absolute game-changer for my two (short-hair and wildly shedding) cats and for friends. Our Vet actually said, earlier this year, that it's a big "shedding" year, and I could see it our new, tiny apartment. It's wonderful for my short-hairs. Thank you so, so much.
Yes, as a general thing. She didn't say why. I live in Western Massachusetts, so I don't know it this is a regional thing, or what. We did have some early warm weather, so I thought it might have to do with that!
And sorry - I realized that I bought the equigroomer, not the comb. My mama cat also purrs when I use that to brush her. Her son, Gracie-George (who is about 10 years old now), likes grooming as a form of attention, but he doesn't come and asked to be brushed the way his mama does.
I lost my cat back in March. She was just over 17 years old. Opened youtube and saw this cat that looked just like my cat and similar names. Ngl cried. So happy this cute sweetie got a good grooming session!
My grandparents had a persian cat who wasn't cuddly (she would accept cuddles only from grandma) but looooved to be brushed by my grandfather once a day. She ran around his ankles screaming till he "made her pretty kitty" (which he always said while brushing her). After my grandparents were away on vacation 2 weeks I fed her and brushed her (since she was long haired, it really is necessary). After that vacation she wanted me to brush her, too. Everytime i visited. When I was at our grandtparent's before 3 p.m. she would demand brushing at 3 p.m. If I visited later she would demand brushing immediatly XD She was a beautiful cat that lived to be 19 (!) years old. We still miss her. Waiting for her to stroll around the corner. And she is gone for 8 years, I believe.
Thank you for putting the mic in a place we could hear the purr! I lost my dearest baby Lucky 2 days ago at the grand age of 14, and her purr was also so deep. It made me feel better to hear that kinda purr again during this grieving period.
i've lost my cat who was 14, too. Been about 2 years now. I lost another cat of mine roughly about a year ago, he was 17. I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure Lucky was the sweetest girl, and you gave her such an amazing life full of love and care. I know it hurts so deeply right now, the pain off loss doesn't ever truly go away, but it gets easier.. soon, instead of your heart being filled with pain and grief when you think of her, you'll remember her beautiful purr and all the silly things she used to do. Take care of yourself today, and tomorrow, and remember that Lucky would want you to take care of yourself just as good as you took care of her. Treat yourself today

My old Ragdoll gentleman Finch (RIP!) used to LOVE being not only blown dry with the hairdryer but also being vacuumed with the crevice extension. Funny boy. The love of my life and I miss him every day. (Edit: randomly to Ragdoll)
Smartest kitty ever cooperating, purring, and thinking of all the hairballs she won't be having. So glad the himalayan cat we had when I was a kid liked being brushed and combed. We had a soft bristle brush for her face and whiskers, and a slicker brush and comb for the rest of her, she loved it.
The way she didn't wanna leave! She needed your help so bad, and was so grateful 🥺She must have been a pound lighter from all that shed XD What a cutie ❣
Wow she’s so calm. I’ve had many cats in my life, none were ever that calm. One of my cats was a Maine Coon and he was the calmest, but he still complained loudly. My current cat SCREAMS when I give her a bath. I’m so glad my cat is a strictly indoor cat otherwise I would have to bathe her more. The first time I put her in a tub my neighbor came over to find out if I had hurt myself. She said she heard a woman screaming. Lol
Is she long haired? My cat loves going outside (safe area, also in the UK so not really any predators), and I've literally never had to bathe him, he doesn't smell like anything. We found him as a stray so I'm not totally sure how old he has but we've had him for at least 5 or 6 years now
This precious girl reminds me so much of my dearly departed Maleficent (Malfie) that passed away over a year ago. She was also a fluffy black cat and was very sweet and pretty tolerant of most things. Watching this cat be happy and pampered soothes a small ache in my heart, even though I know this isn't my girl.
She reminds me of a cat I used to have many years ago. He was a black domestic shorthair. I didn't bathe him regularly, but I did brush him. Not because he badly needed it, but he did used to get dead fur trapped in there that only gave him furballs, and he loved it being brushed out. He used to lie on his side and purr as I combed him (I used a nit comb intended for humans), and he always knew to the exact stroke when I was done with one side and like telepathy would roll onto the other side. And then again, on the last stroke of the comb would roll onto his back and I'd do his belly, then he'd loaf and I'd do his back and tail. The base of his tail was the only bit he ever complained about. But it was altogether a great bonding experience. He was so silky smooth by the end and he'd give me that sleepy eyed look and we'd have a little cuddle, and then he'd usually go to the greenhouse to wash and sunbathe on the potting bench. 😅
My little Khajiit (yes that’s her name) has the same adorable nearly perfectly silent purr. And she only does it during cuddle time so I know she means it. This cat was so well behaved

This groom was soooooooooo satisfying. Seeing all that hair coming out and the unexpected purring ASMR was an added gift. Fully enjoying her spa day, purring away was absolutely delightful. This video goes into my "Happiness" playlist!
she's so lovely 😭💕 purring is also a sign of anxiety but considering her overall body language i think it was mostly out of enjoyment 😊 her pose at the end with her paws under her chest indicates trust and relaxation. her summer days will be so much more tolerable with all that extra fur gone!
What a sweetheart. She loved that brush and comb, down to the skin getting rid of that itchy loose stuff, no wonder she was purring. She reminded me of one of my short hair cats, I only had to show him the brush and he'd race to the grooming table and stayed as long as I let him. Such a pleasure, unlike his sister.
She was probably so happy that you helped her with her fur and overall health It must have been like "oh man this feels so nice" such a sweet girl' so trusting and patient❤

I'm sorry for your loss. Ivan sounded like a special boy.

@@Chrryc0la Great point. Longhairs need more maintenance and grooming. Prospective cat owners need to take that into account 😊
Ragdolls are the nicest cats, I've loved every one I've met
We have a ragdoll as well. She's not that well behaved with groomers and vets. She's not a loving, cuddly type, she's extremely playful instead. I am a little jealous, but I love her anyway.
My Maine Coon was the same way. He charmed every vet and tech who saw him!

You can tell the owners of this cat are probably kind and calm.
But they need to get a brush for the kitty:) i actually enjoy brushing my cats and they love brushing too, so we have these special moments, it’s like a SPA ritual, they come for the brush when I show it to them:)
every cat is different, i'd consider myself calm but my cat has been crazy since the moment i got her
Cats have different personalities and backgrounds. It doesn't matter how calm the owner is if their cat is a traumatized rescue cat.
@@Lumaflare That's true. But a calm cat is usually from a calm home.

XD

We found him as a stray so I'm not totally sure how old he has but we've had him for at least 5 or 6 years now
It's lovely of your neighbour to check on you though! 😊
This precious girl reminds me so much of my dearly departed Maleficent (Malfie) that passed away over a year ago. Sorry for the loss of your fur baby ❤
reminds me of my dearly departed black cat, too. so sweet and gentle, never scratched a soul and loved by the vets🥹 how lucky this cats owners are!
…i have absolutely no idea how i ended here, but it’s majestic, i need more now
My little Khajiit (yes that’s her name) has the same adorable nearly perfectly silent purr. And she only does it during cuddle time so I know she means it. This cat was so well behaved

Some cats will stress purr. Way easier to deal with than the usual stress actions.
omg shes so precious i LOVE her. Her little squeaky meow? what a good girl! so sweet.
This groom was soooooooooo satisfying. Seeing all that hair coming out and the unexpected purring ASMR was an added gift. Fully enjoying her spa day, purring away was absolutely delightful. This video goes into my "Happiness" playlist!
"You want back in your house?"
NO! I want more brushie!
“No, it smells like pee in there.”
she's so lovely 😭💕 purring is also a sign of anxiety but considering her overall body language i think it was mostly out of enjoyment 😊 her pose at the end with her paws under her chest indicates trust and relaxation. her summer days will be so much more tolerable with all that extra fur gone!
Her face looks a little resigned but seriously, not too upset.
The purr is precious! Such a precious cat!
Dearest Vanessa, we all know you work miracles with cats and dogs, but I want you know these past 2 weeks your videos have helped through my grief. My 15 year old corgi crossed the rainbow bridge 2 days before Father’s Day which is also a super tough holiday for me since my dad passed away in April 2021. Your channel and community had made me smile when all I have been doing is crying. So THANK YOU❤
I’m so sorry to hear you’re dealing with so much grief. Hang in there. ❤
💗🙏💗
I’m sorry for your losses.❤
What a beautiful girl! And so well behaved. I loved that you put the mic down so we could hear her purring. ❤❤
