- In this episode, I will walk you through the process of setting up a new Ubiquiti Node from scratch, and flashing it with the latest AREDN firmware. Then we will connect it to another node and look at the channel options on the firmware itself. #kc5hwb #texasjproductions
@Ham Radio 2.0 This is the video that started it all for me with AREDN- The one I told you about over in the campground in Xenia...you probably won't remember, I'm pretty unmemorable, and you were taking off for the Troll Pub. Thanks for all your world-class content. It's quite literally changing the world, (for the better).
Nice work Jason. The "narrower" bandwidth will generally travel farther (just like a narrower HF signal), but throughput will be slower. Conversely, a "wider" bandwidth will travel less, but, have better throughput.
True. My main focus is to connect with others in the area, so I need to match the BW that is being used locally. Most of the folks here are on 5MHz BW.
By the way... the lighting setup you have is the best I've ever seen anywhere. It looks perfect!
Thanks for watching.
Good overview for starting up Jason, thanks. After viewing this video I will be changing my nodes from Hamnet to AREDN so I can use the -2 channel. Looking forward to seeing further videos on what to do with the nodes once they are up and running. 73
Thanks for watching. I am looking forward to getting my node deployed on top of my house and connecting to the local network in my area. I've been chatting with some of the hams in the area, and there is quite a robust network going up for MESH, so I am looking forward to getting in on the action.
Ham Radio 2.0 I'm a huge fan of ubiquiti gear. I'd love to get into this stuff. Do you know if any clubs in the Cincinnati area are messing with this?
Thanks Jason. Got Bullet M2 flashed, hope to get mounted outside soon !!!!
Great Jim, I bet we can see each other.
Receiving one node at 100% LQ. No idea who it is.
Good video! Thanks.
Thanks for watching.
Good episode, I can't wait to see the continuation of this. Will you be at the Russellville, AR hamfest in March?
No, I won't be at that one this year.
Thank You Sir! 73
You are welcome!
FYI at 35:50 you should have clicked on the box "Details..." That would have given you the same info that you got with "ipconfig" from the command line. Thank you for the video 73
Good to know, thanks
I was also going to say that.
I watched episode 47 before this. I also did the Linksys HSMM thing too
Dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest series on instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my gf for the last couple of months xD
Hi Jason, great show but I have a question. How are you going to weather proof the CAT 5 connectors on the Ubiquiti Node? I could see a lot of moisture build-up in the connector box area from heating and cooling effects and CAT 5 connectors are far from weather proof.
I purchased outdoor CAT5 cabling with connectors a while back. Also, for this specific Ubiquiti, there is a cover on the back over the Ethernet connection, so it is fairly well safe-guarded already. That along with my outdoor cabling should survive any weather concerns.
Hey can you do a new vid on current status and if you've used the network and how? Also what have you learned since its been up and what you would do different next time?
Thanks
Yes I am actually working on something like that now. Stay tuned...
are the tp-link cpe210 the same thing as the ubiquiti nano? - Charles
Cr Cook Not sure, I've not used the TP Link nodes
essentially yes. The CPEx510 device are slightly less power than a full Nanostation (and *slightly* less expensive).
What kind of mounting are you using to go up 40

The ARDEN founder lives just a few miles away from me.
Cool, I wouldn't mind getting an interview with him. If you know him, send him a link to my show and ask him to contact me.
Darryl, the one who commented a few below helped start it I believe. That was who I was talking about.
