Super helpful video. The HH document should have included a bunch of information you provided like the DMZ allow, button programming.... A really good add on video would be how to add a voip.ms phone line to your phone for less than a $1 a month (metered line so per minute charges apply).
Nice intro for me. I just found out about Hamshack Hotline tonight. When they mention IAX configs this sounds a lot like the asterisk server I have used in the past. I am eager to know more about this. I am a new ham and learning is the best thing about this hobby. 73 de KI5HXM Brent in Texas.
Love the HH videos!! I have a 303, and your videos really make HH interesting! Keep ‘em coming. And by the way, an asterisk is the “star”, the other button is “pound”, or “crosshatch.”
@@K0LWC Talked to the tech guy at work, he was confused at first, but after a little explaining, he might be able to come up with an old VOIP phone for me.
I tried to set my phone up around November 15, 2020 and got my HHUS number, but every time I click the link to show the steps to provision, I get the "Support Ticket System Temporarily Closed" screen. Even when I try to log onto my account using their hyperlink, I get the "Support Ticket System Temporarily Closed" screen. Are they still in operation? I haven't been able to create a ticket since my initial attempt on November 15, 2020.
Thnx for the short clip! I will be getting my SPA-303 tomorrow. Finally, for some reason, VOIP ports have been opened by my ISP, or something else has happened, as Zoiper (Android VOIP app) works all the time since last week. So I've decided to buy that phone off another ham user. I wonder how will this VOIP for ham users will evolve, if we will find a use of it, and how often will it be used. Sounds interesting anyways.
Bril, just got my phone and waiting for my ticket to be cleared, not sure why I need it but I am sure it will develop as friend and the local club get on line too
Great video, Matt. The string for programming quick call buttons does not work for my SPA525G2. The lines indicate a flashing orange button after rebooting. I'm sure this is a programming issue, but I don't know where to start troubleshooting. I've updated firmware for starters, but no joy.
Quick call buttons, why does Line 1 have the number 1 and 2-5 have disabled? When you press the button is it suppose to immediately dial the number? I programmed Line Key 4 and when I press the button the number shows up in the menu but I still have to select 2 other things before it will dial.
I just submitted a ticket with mac info. Am I suppose to wait for something to come back from hotline before I use the provisioning string shown above? Would it matter if it's a 504G and not a 525, would the string be the same?
I noticed that your 525g is the EU version. I've been trying to find someone who knows if that phone will work in the US, but I guess your video answers that question. Can you tell me what the difference between the US and EU version would be?
can I provision a 3CX sip trunk instead? (and dial into it)??? ...I think so! = looks like I must get a ham radio + licence also... - looks ruddy good!!! :D
Yes, the Hamshack Hotline system is for licensed hams only, as it uses some data links throughout the system that are on ham radio bands. Go ahead. and get that license though. If you are playing with sip trunks and the like, I bet you will find amateur radio a hoot.
Thank You. Is there anything else one would have to do to get a talk group on the phone. Add script via SSH, run another pi with ALL Star link software??
Another issue is the Image I'm attempting to set up my PI 4 and PI 3. There's an issue. I get an error 00000044 from an image I download either via Etcher or Raspberry PI. I banging my head against the desk. GGrrr
TY for the videos on HH been great for getting started. One question I am using a SPA508g instead of the 525 you are using, but the string that you provided for quick call buttons does not work as intended. The busy lamp does not work when I have it in my string, and gives no light on the phone at all for the button, the line works as intended and the call can be made but the lights not working is my issue. If I take it out and only use the sd command the button works fine with the green light on the button(obviously no busy light). example fnc=blf+sd+cp;ext=5828@$PROXY (Not Working) zero lights on the button but call can be made fnc=sd;ext=5828@$PROXY (Working) Green light on the button but no busy notification
Those both had the same issues you reported on my phone as well. After doing a bunch of digging I extrapolated this: fnc=blf+cp+sd;sub=xxxx@$PROXY;ext=xxxxx@$PROXY;nme=yyyyyyyy Just replace the x's with the extention and the y's with the name you want to display next to the button.
Some years ago, I was experimenting with BBHN mesh networking, and some of that included SIP functionality. Of course, that's only fun/useful if there's at least one other ham w/in range, so I could only call myself from garage to basement, LOL. ANYWAY... what with these VOIP phones being multi-line, I wonder if it's possible to set them up for dual purpose. Could it do HH and also Vonage (or other VOIP home-phone provider)?
After a chat with HH help, and a deeper dig in Vonage's business-service FAQ (they don't want to tell residential customers jack diddly), I've determined it's nearly 100% likely I'll be able to combine Vonage and HH on a Cisco SPA525G. So that unit is now on order. If I know me, I'll get it set up, call you exactly ONCE (from right over yonder in Centerville), and that will be the end of it. LOL
I tried the provide quick call button string "fnc=blf+sd+cp;sub=5636@$PROXY;nme= Dan KB0TDW " didn't work for me. What did work was "fnc=sd;ext=5892@$PROXY;nme=Mac 5892"
Found this on facebook HH page and it works: ( fnc=blf+cp+sd;sub=xxxx@$PROXY;ext=xxxx@$PROXY ) xxxx is ext number and use the Short Name: For ext Name. Key light will show status of line.
Have you found it yet? It's on there! Check out the "information brochure" listed under Documents --> Links. That will show you the most popular and well-supported phones.
Matt, thanks for the video, I have a question, I'm trying to config the extra buttons on my 525G for Pub1,2, and 3. I have it setup, and the buttons work (they dial the bridge), but they are blinking orange. I have SIP ALG disabled on the router. I also have an HHUX number and programed that into button 2, it displays a solid orange, Any ideas?
