Enjoyed this episode immensely and still giggling at the cat playing behind the curtain. It's a treat to see all the animal behavior at LMR.
Hi, Chelsea. I am Pennsylvania Dutch and grew up eating rolls like this. We call them sticky buns. We have always used honey or maple syrup instead of the corn syrup and the buns are wonderful. I so enjoy your videos!
Cat playing with the curtains it's so cute ❤❤❤❤❤
I’m 65, and my mother made these for all 6 of us kids our whole childhood… (our recipe never used corn syrup)
My mother got the recipe back in the mid 50’s from an elderly neighbor when my family lived overseas…..she was from Germany and said it was “her” mother’s recipe. 😊. I remember watching mom make it quite often and it was amazing! 😊
(I wasn’t born till 1958 so mom had a couple years to perfect it practicing on my older siblings 😂🤪)
I made them for my children and now my daughter makes them for her girls. ❤️
You can tell how comforting working with the sowing was for you. I have lived in town, most of my life, but was raised on a farm. That said, I have never been without a garden of some variety, even if it’s in pots. My father always said, “you can get the girl off the 15:38 farm, but you can never quite get the dirt from under her fingernails.”
I live with perpetually dirty nails from here on until October! Lol
This will be my first time watching you plant your seeds, for the garden, but will be my second time watching you harvest all of your garden. I just loved the 2023 season, and can hardly wait for this year, to see what you get. I just loved watching it grow, and being harvested, and to watch you can everything.
I love any. Vlogs that Chelsea does I get so relaxed watching that’s. Quite funny Chelsea buns and that’s your name I feel we all learn from u. U are your happiest when u are in your garden
Now I want the Amish Cookbook. LOL I bet that book is amazing! The sticky buns look delicious. YUM 🥰🥰🥰
I’m in Minnesota and we’ve had an unbelievably mild winter. But we had snow last night and supposed to get more this weekend. It was so fun seeing you playing in the dirt. Keep us posted on the high tunnel.
Oh my gosh while you were making the buns and the kitty playing in the curtains haaaaa. loved that.
So excited to see how those seeds do I love trying new things to. And I love the dirt on my hands as well. And when the time comes warm enough on my feet too. Loving that Amish cookbook. hugs
Wonderful baking, beautiful painted garden frames & lovely animals, big & small! Thanks for sharing & blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
Very exciting to have seeds started, I liked the idea of the seed starting in the high tunnel. Your cheerful painting is beautiful 💗💚 Those sticky buns look amazing!
This year spring started on the 19th. I was surprised too. I thought it always started on the 21st but it can be the 19th 20th or the 21st.
Really? I had no idea.
True story
This year is a leap year. Extra day in Feb. changed the first day of spring to 19th instead of 20th.
Between tonite and tomorrow we're supposed to get 12 to 18 inches of snow. It's not spring here...lol. The buns looked so delicious. ❤
I just wanted to share with you. I had my son-in-law order me this cookbook that you got the Chelsea bun recipe out of. I wanted to let everybody know that he found me a brand new copy. It is a re-print and I checked it against the recipe for the Chelsea buns and it’s the same and it had the same things in it that you read. I paid $13 for it US and that included shipping. He ordered it from Milestone books from Harrisonburg Oregon. I just thought if anybody wanted a copy of it that they could order it from here. I’m just now starting to look through the book and it has some amazing recipes in it. I can’t wait to start cooking recipes out of it. Thanks again for helping me find this cookbook. My husband’s grandfather was raised Amish but never joined the church so there are a lot of familiar recipes that I remember eating from family reunions. Thanks again.
If it was a British(uk) Chelsea Bun it would probably use Golden Syrup and not Corn Syrup. Corn Syrup in a harsher taste than Golden Syrup.
my dear darling I love your videos so much, cooking or plants and the animals they are the max I love animals very much❤🧡💥
Chelsea buns are very English. Chelsea is a posh area of London. They are usually iced on top with sultanas in.
I remember having school dinners back in the 70s and Chelsea buns were the highlight of the week. However, I'm pretty sure the traditional English recipe doesn't use potatoes. We always used left over mash to make potato cakes which we toasted and spread with butter and i still love them. They're also great with fried eggs and bacon. Not sure how i feel about them in a Chelsea bun, but I'd like to try it. And strictly speaking, they should have dried fruit inside. Substitute sultanas or currants if you don't like raisins. 👍
Oh Chelsea, I throw all sorts of seeds into the beds of my (much smaller) outdoor under cover growing area in February (UK) to restart the soil. I don’t eat what grows personally because little visitors run riot in there. However, I do pluck out what survives to transplant outside into beds before I chop at ground level to make room for the toms and peppers/chillies/ginger/lemon grass.
It’s a great way to rehydrate the soil. For some reason the plants attract moisture and life into the soil without watering the otherwise dry overwintered alternative.
The whole point of Chelsea buns are the raisins and icing on top ! It is a quintessentially English morning bun, usually taken at Elevensies with your tea or coffee as an alternative to Cake ( or as well as if you were indulging) . Usually bought at the Bakers when you went in for your Daily bread . Such a yummy smell when it's cooking and delicious if it was still slightly warm from the oven and the icing was a little melty still !
chelsea buns are a tradition here in england , although ive never known them made with potatoes....interesting, hot out the oven drizzled with glaze, yummy xx
Chelsea buns originally are British. From Encyclopaedia Brittanica: The buns date to the 18th century and were created in the Chelsea area of West London by the Chelsea Bun House (closed 1839), a favourite haunt of the British royal family. The sticky treats are sweet, buttery, and dense, similar to a cinnamon roll. Yours look delicious!
The best place (in my opinion) to get them in the UK is Fitzbillies in Cambridge.
Wow, would love to get my hands in the dirt like that! Starting some seeds inside this weekend, that will help my dirt craving! Nice buns, can almost smell them, yum!
I have made cinnamon rolls using mashed potatoes for years. They make the softest most beautiful drought.
I’m really enjoying your intro Chelsea and those buns looks mouth watering!
The flowers next to your stove added so much!
Love the kitten playing with the curtain!!
I love the fresh flowers.
Agree, that's the 1st thing I noticed during her intro, the pop of yellow. Yeah spring! 🌻🌻
Just try sprinkling a layer of micro green seeds in potting soil in a little 3 inch pot. And when you get them to grow nicely maybe move on to bigger trays.
I grew up with that type of cinnamon roll. Love them
And this is how Chelsea gets so much done in her day! No wasted time where as me lol
Right?!😂 The woman’s a machine! I hope she’s finding balance for herself.❤
Buns look great! I foresee your high tunnel experiment being a success. I planted greens in my raised beds one time the first week of April and had lettuce and such about 2 -3 weeks earlier. Will be interesting to see though. I chuckled at the cat playing in the curtain - was quite entertaining.
I am so ready to get my hands in the garden dirt! 🤗
Can't wait to see what you grow
Thanks for sharing your life and your ideas!
Interesting name for the rolls!)
I really like your channel!😊
Oh Chelsea looks like you caught the same bug I got! Yeah we got ‘SGF-spring gardening fever’! The only cure for SGF is having your fingers in the dirt.🌱
The rolls look amazing. Can't wait to get my hands dirty planting it will be a bit yet as we have snow and more expected i. A few days. Ugg i am so over winter! Thank you for sharing
Ooooh I'm so excited, another video 👏. Just as I was thinking you ARE doing a new vlog every 2 days, I'm a bit of a slow learner. Hahahaha
Thanks Chelsea ❤
lol! Well, I'm trying. Usually Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. 😊
I always learn something when I watch you! Thanks for the great videos!
This looks so yummy. Planting time again gets me so excited😅❤
I was able to find this Amish cookbook at an online used bookstore. I’m so excited I got it for $12. Thank you so much for sharing. I can’t wait to try the Chelsea buns.❤
As I'm watching this, it is March 22. On the 1st day of spring, where I live in Toronto, we got our 2nd snowfall. The 1st was in February. For the last 2 days, the snow has been non-stop.😔 💬🤬 ❄️ 😪
💛 from 🇨🇦
I’m in Toronto as well! 🥰
To discourage algae growth, sprinkle vermiculite and/or cinnamon over the top of soil after you plant your seeds.
Or make a mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide and spray over the top the hydrogen peroxide will discourage the algae growth but the plants will love it
I have a recipe for cinnamon rolls and you add the extras to the bottom of the pan to make sticky buns you flip them out so the bottom is the top
Me too!
Yes! That's how I always made them.
Yes!!
I just ordered that cookbook on Amazon! It was used but like new-I love old cookbooks! I love your videos!!
LOOKS GOOD!
We have Chelsea buns in the UK but they definitely don't look anything like those ones they look better. Be nice to see the bunkie ready unless something happens to put it back I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I just remember what Dan said you can't always be sure it's going to be ready when you say it is. I can't wait to see it finished. Good luck with the seedlings.
I watch a you tube channel named Homesteading with the Zimmermans. She is amish and does make her cinnamon rolls with mashed taters. I do not remember her using corn syrup, so that old recipe has been changed.
Those buns look delicious… I will be trying them. Thanks for sharing!
Sticky buns is what we call them
Love this video can't wait for the next❤
Oh your kitten lol playing in your curtian 😅😅😂
Chelsea conquers her buns!😜
Yup. PA sticky buns. Yum. I would have used maple syrup rather than corn syrup.
My mother made something similar but they weren’t called Chelsea buns. I don’t remember potatoes but I was young. She was from Europe so she could have called them by a different name. Thanks for sharing this recipe
I have a similar recipe, but it calls for maple syrup instead of Karo corn syrup. I think you would like it. I enjoy watching your videos.
The corn syrup acts like an anti sugar agent if you don't use it your syrup will crystallize on you. If you don't mind that great. I've done it both ways. Here they are called sticky buns.
Yeah yes! Raw kombucha
Excellent vidéo !!!
Blessings +++!!!
In fact this year in 2024 Spring is officially on the 20th march instead of the 21st.
Blessings +++!!!
Great video Chelsea.
I’m in central pa. I have this cookbook and I use it often
These look like what we call sticky buns here in PA! Try chopping up some walnuts or pecans and add them to the syrup- we used to fight over picking them off the bun🤭
Have you considered putting something down the middle of the high tunnel for a thermal mass that can release heat over night? Rock and brick walls are good at holding heat
I make an amish cinnamon roll recipes that has potato in it. Delicious.
According to a Pecan grower, it's❤😊 pronounced Pee Khan. Pee can is what his grandmother had next to her bed so she didn't have to get up in the middle of the night ❤😊😂
I was looking at a similar vlog recently where pecan growers were discussing this very issue. They say they grew up pronouncing it pee can, but they now pronounce it pee khan. Almost all the rest of the world other than parts of America pronounce it pee can. I’m Irish that’s how we and the English pronounce it. We call the thing under the bed so you don’t have to get up at night a potty😊❤
That’s a good idea, Chelsea, to use the dome covers in your high tunnel!
I use some maple syrup instead of the corn syrup in my caramel rolls. They are so yummy!
Yummy. The high tunnel color is great so glad you are able to get your hands dirty. Could you please share the recipe for this and the honey oatmeal bread you made the other day, both look delicious. Thank you for sharing
I’ll be sharing them in my newsletter next week.😊
Hi Chelsea, the plastic tray lids are good for those of us who don't have a climate controlled grow room. I don't have/use either a heat pad or a sun lamp...because I don't have room. I like the tray lids to help keep the temperature and moisture in the tray.
You will be interested to know you can still buy Chelsea buns in most bakeries throughout England. I loved them until I fell in love with cinnamon rolls from Cinnabon back in the 1990s when I lived in Canada. Then they opened a store in London, in Leicester Square and I would purchase from there. Now they have 11 stores spread over England. I still like Chelsea buns (originated in London in 1700) as they have fruit and I can't imagine eating them without fruit! Do your family not like mince pies, Christmas pudding or Christmas cake? A great video as always and I might just research a little into Amish recipes as I am interested. There is a website called Mennonite Girls Can Cook with over 3,000 recipes that I am ploughing my way through at the moment. Lol, other people read a book at bedtime, I read recipes!
This is the old woman here again..lol. Just to say that I routinely put potatoes in my yeast dough. Adds to the flavor as well as assisting with the rise. Always enjoy your recipes, animals, gardening and preserving. 😊
😂😂😂zuerst Daumen hoch....und dann erst ...wird das Video in Ruhe angeschaut 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤
Alex in the curtain! 😹 (in the last half of the 8 minute mark)
She's a character!
We would call them Sticky Buns.
Finally Spring soon😃
I eliminate the corn syrup and add real cream instead. It makes for a delicious, softer caramel topping on the rolls.
We call those sticky buns
I could feel your contentment when you had your hands in the soil! The Chelsea buns look amazing - Amish sticky buns?
Chelsea, I enjoy your new opening. I like how you give us a brief overview of what you are covering in the video. Hope you have a wonderful day.
P.S. Does the Amish cookbook have a recipe for Oatmeal Pie? If it does I suggest trying it. I think you and your family will enjoy it.
Another prize winning episode! You say cooking is not your favorite activity, but you do it so well, and choose great recipes!
We have a cake here in England called Chelsea buns
Hi Chelsea
I just received my copy of the Amish Cooking cookbook! It looks excellent! I’m curious which other recipes you have made from it!
Those buns look amazing. However, the star of this video is the cat playing in the curtains. I had to rewatch and listen to what you were saying several times. My attention kept going to the cat. I was so tickled.
Can't wait to try this recipe.
Microgreens are the only thing I can grow indoors. The radish and spring mix are my favorites. I grow them in trays and bottom water them. What I really want to grow is lettuce. But I’ve been trying for a year and just can’t get it.
Random question: Did your bees make it through winter?
Spring was the 19 th this year
I bought the cook book you are using today it is a 2019 reprint with hard back blue binding. $13.80 us.
I’m trying pea sprout for the first time. My family does it regularly and said you need to start them in total darkness. I’m going to try and see if that work.
Love all your videos…you’re so ambitious❣️ I was wondering what band hoodie you’re wearing. My neck is always cold. I love the layered/scrunchie look your hoodie has.
❤❤❤
Great video, your skills in the garden & the kitchen & your video skills are delightful.
What cookbook are you using, I would like to see if I can find it in one of our old book stores. Thanks
YOU My like to look up Boston bun which is made of potatoes
I’m a new gardener and I am dying to get my hands on dirt. Unfortunately tonight we are predicted to get 5”-8” of snow. 😬
❤
I wonder if the potato makes it stay fresh longer since sweet rolls dry out so fast.
We call the Chelsea Buns, Sticky Buns where I’m from.
Hey! How did you go from rising to eating without mentioning putting them in the oven - and for how long. You didn't eat them raw did you???
Hahaha... I just commented the same thing, then I read your comment. I guess it was an error in her editing. Ill look at other recipes & see how long to bake.
I am the only one that drinks kombucha.
Can I just do 1/2 gallon instead of gallon by following your instructions?
