I never enjoyed cooking, it was such a chore. But you have a family, you have to feed them. Lol That being said I worked 60-70 hours per week and maintained my home and cared for my disabled husband. As my sons grew into young men and they ate anything that got in their way. They would request dishes or compliment me on the meal. I always cooked large batches of whatever I was preparing and nothing went to waste. Now my sons and their daddy all have passed away and I am alone. I miss having someone to cook, bake for. Amazing I thought I detested cooking/baking. Now every now and then I have some children I can cook for and it makes my heart smile. Their momma detests cooking and makes a lot of processed foods. They appreciate the meals I prepare for them. Its a win win situation. If I cook for myself I don't normally for just me. I can make do with a slice of bread and cheese. Thank you for sharing a piece of your life and world, I find comfort in your vlogs.
Down here in the south in Georgia, which is in the United States. They call that sticky buns we take and make it like that. Cut it like you would cinnamon rolls but when you put the nuts and the brown sugar in it, it’s called sticky buns absolutely delicious
You can add a thick glass top to it so you can see through but wash it easily. At this size it will not move or fall off. Recycled glass from sliding patio doors are great. The glass company can cut to any size you need. Plus it’s safety glass.
I just discovered you this summer (and we spend time together everyday, just so you know!) so I'm watching some of your older videos. I'm guessing the reason you didn't enjoy cooking until you started making videos is because it was tedious, but making the videos made you aware and proud of how skilled you are and how much beautiful food you produce in your kitchen for your family. ❤
I recently found your channel, much to my delight! Watching you in the kitchen, up and down the stairs, outside to go shopping, give the weather update and then back into your cozy and welcoming kitchen to show, share and tackle your nemesis of cooking makes your audience feel like we are right with you. Cup of tea or your famous cocoa in hand. Your camera presence is everyday mom and totally believable. The new videos are a welcoming sight when you post, but being that I am new, I have a treasure trove of your past videos to languish through. And just let me know if you have any Midwestern recipes you have ever heard about and would like to try. I am sure I have it buried in my ridiculous collection of church and Amish cook books somewhere!!!😊
Oh I'd love to get my hands on some amish cookbooks! I'm in Ireland so wouldn't find them but anything you'd recommend I look up and try get the recipe?
I grew up on a fruit farm in Rutland (now part of Kelowna - so I'm pretty sure you will know where this is) and my mom canned EVERYTHING. She was also a wonderful baker (didn't like cooking as much as baking) and we grew up with home-made bread, buns and fantastic cinnamon buns. Watching you make and eat this bread just took me back to the 1950's. Oh the smell!!!! And borscht too - a real staple in our house. I had some in the freezer and just took it out for supper after watching your video - lol. My sister lived in Prince George so am familiar with your part of BC. Love watching your videos.
Was going to say same. The wood strap side up. Keeping the chains on show under the clear medium. The gap between the Perspex/safety glass would be deep enough to keep latest magazines, store items when clearing table for games, keep a deck of cards or even showcase Chelsea’s new book! 😃 Keep the gate as original as possible.
I was blessed to help a Ukrainian family learn English many years ago. We met every Friday night & they prepared a meal for us all. Their Borscht was my absolute favorite soup of all time. They did not put beets in, but included everything else you did-with the sour cream & dill. So enjoying all the videos you have been sharing with us. Blessings to you!
It doesn't matter what you video, I enjoy it all. It's the "realness" of life and your ability to share it with us. So enjoy you and your family...love the background singing and the sounds of family life. I came from a large family myself 😊
Hi. I’m binging on your channel where I just found you. Great videos too 🥰. The ‘shopping basket’ you use for bringing stuff up stairs- hang it on the basement door and just grab it on your way down to shop 👍 It’ll save you steps in your day. TRUST me, come being time the steps you save is a blessing. 😊 Love your wood cook stove ♥️♥️ I had just the small wood stove for main heat source, I baked foil wrapped potatoes in the fire and actually could bake cookies on top, as well as whole meals that didn’t need an oven. My house burned in the middle of the night last March 😪 - been there 39 years 💔 Electrical fire! 😡 No matter HOW careful one can be - wood stove was out before I went to bed, and wasn’t lit at all days I had to go in town only once I got back. If I wasn’t there or awake to tend it- it didn’t get done. I questioned fire chief as to WHAT could’ve caused electrical TO fire - he said more often than not, it’s a squirrel or mouse that chewed into wiring 😳😡. I spent the summer and fall up on the homestead in a little camper to do my gardens and yard work , companies estimated tear down of the shell $15000 😳 that’s robbery ! So, I lugged bags n boxes out for garbage pick up, picked up glass WHOA the amount of glass was unreal… and if winter doesn’t cave it in- I’ll just keep picking away at it 👍 even if I had $15000 I’d NOT give it for tearing down what remained of my life.
I am so glad you chose to add these baking/cooking videos to your channel. I have really been enjoying them. They are therapeutic at times for sure. There is something so relaxing about home cooked/home grown food. TY so much for sharing
You might have to chisel some wood out from under the straps so they sit down into the spot where they are! It will take some doing because you will have to chisel the whole length of the strap, but it will be worth it!!! Just deep enough so the strap will sit down in !
Cookbook yes ? How soon ? Pre- order , hurry ! Hurry ! next you will have your own cooking show ? You make what you do look so delicious , congratulations stay safe , enjoy & have fun !! Your cooking abilities are remarkable , amazing , outstanding, you go " girl " !!
I am the same as you, I don’t enjoy cooking especially after working an 8 hour day. So I started watching these cooking UA-cam shows to help me want to enjoy cooking more!!! I am jealous of your land and gardens , your life, etc.. I would give anything to have a nice working kitchen like you have! Keep up the wonderful videos, love watching them daily!!!❤
I came across your channel for the first time yesterday so just a few statements. For someone who doesn't like to cook you sure are a pro 🤣. Secondly, I absolutely love all the land along with your little cabin. Lately I have been harping on moving out of our big city and into a homestead. Being raised in the country my heart wants to return to the old ways. Thirdly, what is your family's source of income? Lastly, is the wood heater your source of heat?? I grew up on a farm; our main source of heat was the wood heater/stove which we often cooked soups on. We didn't get HVAC until I was 15-16. It always kept the majority of the house warm but we closed most of the room doors because the heat wouldn't reach that far. Anyways I enjoy your videos and your kind spirit!!!
I am so glad you showed us that borscht recipe. One of my favorites but have never tried making it. Grew up with It looks amazing. I was so hoping you were going to throw a gob of sour cream on it lol :) We do that in lots of soups because my Nany taught me that with borscht. Have used dill, but my Nany loved finally chopped dill pickles on the sour cream. So that is one of my favorites and my 23 year old daughter to this day needs her sour cream and pickles. In any soup. Love the weenie roast. And yes nothing like a good hot dog any day that is my favorite treat. I have never tried one with chips love it! That table is going to be so beautiful. I think the table would look good with the raised piece unless you do several games at a time? One board would work but if more maybe inlay it? Well the bread looks once again so yum but oh my gosh the hard work and that is not easy I do not think I could even do it! But it looks like heaven. I love you love the recipe. I am so sorry, I do not mean to leave such long winded comments, but it is so hard not to because I am enjoying these videos so much! I will try to keep them shorter 😊. hugs xo
I was born in Alberta and had relatives who lived around the Vancouver and Penticton areas. We moved to Seattle in my teens, so we were often in BC. My husband used to vacation at Fawn Lake when he needed a getaway...beautiful country up there. When I was vacationing with him, we would go up to 100 mile house while we were at the lake, too. I am enjoying your videos and finding inspiration in your coming, baking and food storage instructions...thank you.
I live in central Ohio, in the States, and my family has a Borscht recipe handed down from over a hundred years ago. We make it every year as soon as the snow flies and it's our tradition to celebrate winter and the slowing down season! We haven't had it yet this year but I have all the ingredients ready and I'm just waiting.. By the way, I've been following for a while but I never comment, except I wanted to say I really am enjoying that you are posting SO much more. I started following because of your herbal pantry videos way back but I find I REALLY enjoy your cooking and preserving videos! Thank you.
My Mum makes a ridiculous yummy poppy seed braid. She tops it with apricot jam. And my Granny makes a wonderful nut braid.. I‘m gonna try that cinnamon one and maybe the hazelnut spread one. Seems like I have to do a lot of baking 😊
I think it's wonderful that you are enjoying cooking more especially since it is such a large part of your life, I can imagine how it could be lonely and overwhelming , a beautiful sacrifice for your familyI have found that the beauty of it often lies in the freshness and pride of your ingredients caring for people and the relationships you make. I have just recently found your channel and I love watching amd learning about the day to day that goes on in your life thank you for sharing. Nothing but good hearted vibes I love this channel.
I would say that you are enjoying cooking because you get to share and teach in a fun way…like you are spending time with friends. Thank you for sharing.
The beet soup looks wonderful. I’m Ukrainian and have only made the soup once. Love your recipe, have never had with sour cream, which looks delicious, will be making this today. The bread looks so good . My husband is drooling thinking about it, so will have to do that for him. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Hope you have a great day.
Hello. I am from Poland... In Poland this kind of soup we called: barszcz.😍 Thanks for Your words of Your feeleengs about cooking... Very interesting for me...😊.
I sit here and get sooo hungry seeing you making all the wonderful food for your family. One certainly cannot guess that you do not like to cook - you do a fantastic job. It is great that you show us so much from your time in the kitchen, thank you. All the best to you and your family.
Thank you for sharing! I'm the same when it comes to feeling like filming makes a difference! I definitely feel more connected and motivated to be in the kitchen because I'm "hanging out" with people.
Beets are by far one of my favorite vegetables, and I have loved borscht since I was a small child! I am salivating watching you make it. The table is going to be beautiful, and I would leave the straps up. I love the character that they add.
You've been crushing it with all these vids - I love them. Thank you for being part of our days. It's a very comforting thing to find your vids uploaded
I love the videos you are making! I look forward to seeing you pop up in my notifications. Your borscht is an amazing nutrition bomb! For your table, I think for safety purposes I would remove them. The holes where the bolts were and the wood beneath the straps will leave plenty of character to the wood top but make a smoother surface for little hands and arms.
Dan was thinking the same thing as far as the holes adding enough character. Most of my kids are teenagers now so I’m not worried as much about them hurting themselves, but I do have that sweet little grandson… defiantly will think about that.
When it is really cold and yucky outside, snowing or whatever, I love Lapsong Souchong. It is a bit of an acquired taste. It is smoked black tea. When you brew it, it smells like a campfire. Sooooo good. In the summer, I like fruity teas in the winter black teas.
I’m glad that producing UA-cam videos while you are cooking, has made all that work a little less disagreeable, because it is instructional and entertaining to watch! I would guess that all, who are fortunate enough to sit your table are in for a delicious meal.
I just finished a delicious pancake, grated apple and some raisins in the batter, bake, flip over, and sprinkle some cinnamon sugar mix over the hot pancake and enjoy! Greetz from Holland😊❤
Your cabbage looks like a giant pumpkin! So fun. The soup looks very good and I've never tried it before. But I have eaten cinnamon bread before and MUST make some of yours. My family would be so happy!
I love borscht! I’ve made it for years, but this summer I’ve been volunteering with Ukrainian refugees and made some good friends. They taught me their way of making it, and it was so good! Not too different from what you do, just some nuances. We did a vegetarian version using homemade vegetable stock and added a quart of home canned beans at the end to make it heartier. If you’ve never had borscht with beans, I highly recommend it! Maybe try it with a small batch, though. 😂
Chelsea, if you’ll take and let your butter be room temperature where you can spread it really easy spread your butter, then leave your brown sugar and cinnamon dry and spread it on top of the butter then roll it up and cut it and braid it. it will do so much better just a tip
I like to add a stalk of chopped rhubarb to my borscht to make it a bit sour. My Ukrainian grandmother always did that and so did my mother so that is why I do too.
Chelsea I'm so glad you are enjoying doing this type of video because I am too! It's getting cool enough to bake here in Dallas so I'm watching closely 😊 I love trying new foods and have never tried borscht. I don't know if you can get the brand Celestial Seasonings tea, but I have to order (Amazon) my favorite flavor Jammin' lemon ginger- sooo good. No "real" tea in it though. I get my boost of caffeine from coffee. Nice spending time with you today, thank you!
You think you don't like cooking n baking but honestly you seem to mentally taste the food as you make it n take great care with everything..cant wait for the cook book stay warm!!
We have so many favourites in common borscht, earl grey and homemade bread! I am also from BC and currently live in the NW region. All the new videos have been amazing! Thank you.
The old door is amazing I like the weather look for the top I would use the side with the chain but would take the chain off and build legs and use a wax to protect it and leave the rustic look and I will need to try your bread looks yummy and soup is fantastic love beets yummy thank you so much for sharing
Wow the cinnamon and the Nutella breads both looked so good! I may need to make a loaf of each for dinner at my in laws this weekend so I can get a big group to weigh is on which is better! I think they both looks so good!!
Hi. I just had to stop the video to tell u how much I love the old gate for a table…..love it. We made a table out of the top of a old shipping crate and mounted it on a treadle sewing machine base. Oh and I also tried the Nutella spread on my one hour bun dough the other night. Omgoodness it was delish. Ok back to the video. PS myself….My tea of choice is strong black tea with honey and a little milk…just like my dad used to drink it. 💕
I love your changes in this bread- so good- looking and Delish🥰❣️🫶🏼💁🏻You just need a Sou Chef!!! Am a Borsht lover too- along with the dill and sour cream- yummmm!!
Nice to know I'm not the only one who drinks Earl Grey tea, I also enjoy Lady Grey but I can't drink just normal tea lol. I probably only drink 1 or 2 cups of coffee per week and it can't be instant. The Borscht looks amazing, mind you, so does the cinnamon bread. Thanks for sharing 😀😀😀
I saw the Old Dutch Potato chips and drooled!!! I lived in South Dakota growing up and we used to get them. I left South Dakota at 22. I have had the 2 times since then. I love them but we can't get them in North Carolina. Yummmm. I want some!!
Inlay will be gorgeous. Coat it several times with Poly... Try a little ground cardamom with plain or cinnamon bread...Our Grandmom.always did for sweet breads...
that Earl Grey Creme Tea and a shot of whisky is delicious. Ive heard it called "Santas little helper" around this time of year..LOL. I have tried it and it is delicious
Love the strap on the table but I get why you think they may get in the way. I think your idea of imbedding them is great. Thanks again for a lovely video. My kettle is on for a cup of Earl Grey (decaf) - milk and a touch of sweet (either sugar or honey).
I don't always enjoy cooking either but now with this inflation I have to force myself to try new recipes and eating at home saves money. We definitely still do a pizza night at least once a week but now going out to eat is only for birthdays and special occasions. I enjoy it when my family loves the food but I try not to get discouraged when it's not well received. And what I hate and I have learned to not be phased is when I make something and I refuse to make two or three different preps because my family is very picky. That's really where the trouble comes from is one doesn't like this and the other doesn't like that. Ugh, I made what I made and if you don't like it, make your own dinner or fast cause I'm done
We love soup! Will try this for sure! Just made a pot of Potatoe,Ham& Corn chowder for supper and will can some. Last weekend was cream of potato can canned a bunch!
Total Earl Grey fan . . . even found a Russian Earl Grey in Europe!

Beautiful bread
I grew up on a fruit farm in Rutland (now part of Kelowna - so I'm pretty sure you will know where this is) and my mom canned EVERYTHING. I love the straps! I think I would put a piece of glass or plexi over the top.
Great idea!!
Was going to say same. The wood strap side up. Keeping the chains on show under the clear medium. The gap between the Perspex/safety glass would be deep enough to keep latest magazines, store items when clearing table for games, keep a deck of cards or even showcase Chelsea’s new book! 😃

Keep the pretty straps and either inlaid or cover the top with a price of glass is my recommendation. 😊
I work in a bakery. If you melt the butter and spread it on the dough and then sprinkle the sugar mix it is alot easier
Hi. I’m binging on your channel where I just found you. Great videos too 🥰. Hi and welcome!
I am so glad you chose to add these baking/cooking videos to your channel. I have really been enjoying them. They are therapeutic at times for sure. There is something so relaxing about home cooked/home grown food. TY so much for sharing
Yes, I don't know how, but definitely leave the straps with the weathered green paint. They add so much character! 💖
You might have to chisel some wood out from under the straps so they sit down into the spot where they are! It will take some doing because you will have to chisel the whole length of the strap, but it will be worth it!!! Just deep enough so the strap will sit down in !
Add a raised plexi-glass top to the table? Keep all the character but have a nice flat easy clean top!

I think the straps are what makes it❤. I think inlaying them would definitely keep the magic of the table 😊
I came here to say the same thing. I think the character the straps offer is what makes the piece unique and special. It is going to be so beautiful!
Agreed
I would say that you are enjoying cooking because you get to share and teach in a fun way…like you are spending time with friends. Thank you for sharing.

I love the way the door looks! I’d keep it original ♥️
I want to jump through the screen and dive into that bread. My favorite ingredients! Waldo, OH
Love watching you cook. You’re a great teacher. That bread would also be wonderful savory, filled with cheeses etc.
Your cabbage looks like a giant pumpkin! So fun. The soup looks very good and I've never tried it before. But I have eaten cinnamon bread before and MUST make some of yours. My family would be so happy!
I love Earl Grey tea too. I love tea hot or cold!
I LOVE watching your videos! Thank you for all the great content. I look forward to every video!
You are so welcome!
I loved the tabletop the way up it was when we first saw it in the field….I know not best for board games but very attractive, loads of character!
Inlay the straps. I LOVE that gate, and can’t wait for you to get it done. It is going to be gorgeous.
I could totally see that working!
Love your videos . They’re down to earth every day cooking. ❤
I love watching u cook I love your smile I go looking for all u put on youtub
Not sure how I stumbled upon your channel but subscribed after the first video yesterday. Love your homestead!
Welcome!😊
Chelsea I'm so glad you are enjoying doing this type of video because I am too! It's getting cool enough to bake here in Dallas so I'm watching closely 😊 I love trying new foods and have never tried borscht. I don't know if you can get the brand Celestial Seasonings tea, but I have to order (Amazon) my favorite flavor Jammin' lemon ginger- sooo good. No "real" tea in it though. I get my boost of caffeine from coffee. Nice spending time with you today, thank you!
Oh YESSSS sis, potato chips on my sandwich!!! ❤️ y’all, Kristy in Missouri zone 6b 😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You think you don't like cooking n baking but honestly you seem to mentally taste the food as you make it n take great care with everything..cant wait for the cook book stay warm!!
That gate will make an amazing table. I'm leabing more on inlaying the straps to maintain the uniqueness of it.
Ginger and lemon tea, internal warm glow especially when the weather's cold.
I love watching you ❤️ . I don't like cooking most the times.
We have so many favourites in common borscht, earl grey and homemade bread! I am also from BC and currently live in the NW region. All the new videos have been amazing! Thank you.
I love green twinings green tea and the twinings black tea. Enjoy your videos. Blessings
So glad you’re posting more often!
The old door is amazing I like the weather look for the top I would use the side with the chain but would take the chain off and build legs and use a wax to protect it and leave the rustic look and I will need to try your bread looks yummy and soup is fantastic love beets yummy thank you so much for sharing
You do a wonderful job, enjoyable videos
Thank you very much!
Wow the cinnamon and the Nutella breads both looked so good! I may need to make a loaf of each for dinner at my in laws this weekend so I can get a big group to weigh is on which is better! I think they both looks so good!!
Well, you keep cooking and baking because you are so good at it and we love to watch and learn!!!
Leave the straps, find a piece of fiberglass or something similar to put on top when you need a flat top. Love your idea!!
I love your changes in this bread- so good- looking and Delish🥰❣️🫶🏼💁🏻You just need a Sou Chef!!! Am a Borsht lover too- along with the dill and sour cream- yummmm!!
I enjoy watching your videos. The soup & the bread look so delicious! I enjoy watching what is happening on your homestead.
Oh my, that does look good. I'm not a great cook or like to do it but baking is scarier to me, lol 😄👍🇨🇦
Hello! The coffee table is going to me amazing. I wouldn't take those metal brackets off for love nor money !!
I saw the Old Dutch Potato chips and drooled!!! I lived in South Dakota growing up and we used to get them. I left South Dakota at 22. I have had the 2 times since then. I love them but we can't get them in North Carolina. Yummmm. I want some!!
Nice house and great food! Great video! Thank you for sharing!
Everything you make looks scrumptious!😘
Leave the straps, It is beautiful as is! The cinnamon bread looks amazing and I cant wait to make some. Thank you for all you are sharing with us.
I have tried it and it is delicious
looks great
Yum! Earl Grey is one of my favorites. I also love Chai Tea with some frothy milk and a dash of maple syrup and cinnamon.
Love the strap on the table but I get why you think they may get in the way. I think your idea of imbedding them is great. Thanks again for a lovely video. My kettle is on for a cup of Earl Grey (decaf) - milk and a touch of sweet (either sugar or honey).
I love Borsht too. It is delicious. Thank you for the bread recipe. I'll try that it.
1/4 cup of vinegar will help keep the colour of your borscht. Plus is adds a nice suttle zing.
I love earl grey with milk and honey! ❤
Have seen such with a glass top so beautiful to preserve
Your cooking is 👌🏼
I wanted to reach in and grab some of the cinnamon twist … again you are so amazing!!!
Thank u for your videos, my family & I definitely use your baking & cooking tips 👍🏽
My mother made borscht all the time, I love it I have heard of that Earl Grey Cream tea, but haven't tried it. I'm a honey and milk tea drinker too.
I’m coming over for supper and desert 😆Everything looks amazing!
