To cut the tomatoes use two covers, I use cool whip covers that have a lip on them. Put the tomatoes in one cover facing up and use the other cover facing down. It holds the tomatoes in place so you can cut them. Works with grapes too.
I make those every Christmas, they are always part of my baking. Our family calls them chocolate crinkles.
Wow! I don’t think I’ve ever seen you cut a recipe in half before this. Those cookies looked delicious. Great video.
Chelsea. I’ve seen the tomatoes cut by putting them between two lids ( like cottage cheese, cool whip, those kind of lids). The bottom lid will keep the tomatoes from rolling away. The top lid will also keep the tomatoes contained. Then slice between the two lids. Hope this helps. Jo
Yes, that's what I do as well. I use the lids off used plastic soup to go containers. Works great. However, Chelsea troubleshooting this method put a big smile on my face😄
Chelsea I love your videos!
Replace the balsamic for red wine vinegar and add oregano to your Greek salad. This is the way we make it 😊 love it with fresh bread to soak up the tomato juices and dressing
Thank you! It’s so nice to hear someone else talk about the grittiness of that salt. I can’t do it. Crunching down on
A beautiful soft piece of homemade bread. Nope.
I love your cooking shows your little lambs are so cute in precious when you go to cut those tomatoes like you're doing use a long bread knife that serrated and it's easier
I use lids like a large cottage cheese or Cool Whip lid, the lip on the side keeps the tomatoes and olives in place.
You can make cookies, cream butter, eggs and sugar with Ankasuram paddle and roller! Takes a little more time, bit it does work!
I use my plates bottom to bottom with tomatoes between... smaller amounts at first work better as does using a serrated knife. 😊❤
I love that salad, so good.
Chocolate Crinkle Cookies! One of my favorite memories of making those with my mom. I love Greek salad too, also olives are evil!!
Can’t wait for the cookie recipe. They look delicious. Also just want to say that I really like your new intro.
Be aware with your stump piles, my local little does liked to hide their fawns tucked into those big stump piles. My big American Saddlebred mares would take fawn duty while the does went to graze. They found neighbor dogs would not go near the field. Mares were 17.1 hh and 16.3 hh. They had no problem sending dogs for a flight thru the air with the greatest of ease!!! 😂 With their power, the dogs only needed one or two flights to teach them a good lesson. One or two landed on the elec fence which made them really educated!
I saw that clip. He turned the plates upside down and used the lip on the underdide of the plate as his holding area. He placed another plate on top facing up. The tomatoes were contained by the lips on the bottoms of the plates. Fyi, it didnt work well on mushy frozen cranberries, only fresh ones. I havent tried it on small tomatoes yet.
Those cookies looked delicious.
I keep my onions in the fridge and i find it really helps with my eyes not stingy! But obviously you have your googles so you are all set!😊
I grew up calling those cookies Exploders since it looks like they exploded in the oven. My recipe uses melted chocolate instead of cocoa. Great memories!!
My daughter said the reminded her of the top of a snowy mountain. Such a fun cookie!
You are making my mouth water!
Fifty years ago when I first raised chicks they were 20 cents each and day old turkeys were #1. It always makes me feel VERY old when I hear what they cost now. But not as old as I felt about 30 years ago when I asked a girl in the county court house if I could borrow her typewriter for a minute when I was title searching. She looked at me and said, 'What's a typewriter?" Now that made me feel really old But what was even more age adding was when my grandson asked me recently did they use real money back when you were a Mom? (Now it's either checks or credit cards and paper sacks not flimsy plastic at the grocery store) LOL OH yeah, why is your cute tea pot way up on the top of your cupboard? Trying to quit drinking it?
Omg Chelsea when you were flinging tomatoes across the counter I was laughing soooo hard! You get like two cool whip lids or something like that. Put the tomatoes on the one lid then put the other lid on top of the tomatoes. Press a little hard then slice across. I think a very sharp knife helps too! Love your channel!
I love it when u show Dan in the vlogs to show what he’s up to around the farm and see him in his element those cookies look so delicious I’m with u Chelsea I. Protest olives not my cup of tea they spoil a recipe
I used old Corelle ware. Smooth, & no big lip on it.
Me too! I’ve been searching for it in thrift stores, I love it! I used to have it when I first got married in the early 70s and had forgotten how great it is. The plates stack so easily and thinly and it can go in the microwave, too.
I usually make them at Christmas and we call them crinkles cookies I also add a teaspoon of instant espresso granules in them and that intensifies the chocolate.
Oooo that would be good!
We call those cookies chocolate crinkles. Big favorite in my Christmas cookie collection. I should make them all year. Tastes like a brownie, yum.
I enjoy your videos so much.
hi chelsea! i've been meaning to tell you i love your new intro. thanks for sharing & fyi: you are definitely one of my favorite you tubers. keep spreading your sunshine!
Thank you so much!!
You should have turned your plate over to hold the tomatoes in. Was your Dad as nice as Dan? Huge cookies! Yum. A big glass of milk.
For the tomatoes to cut them you need a plastic lid. A large lid like off of a coffee can
exactly works pretty well
So great the missing mixer piece was found, and the cookies and veg salad look yummy. Being outside with you felt very cold just like home.. I am done with these low temps!😊
Love your videos wish I had the time and knowledge to preserve like you do amazing
Just wanted to say that I love your channel.
I appreciate that!💕
vicki, i cut a large grip of tomatoes in half like that perfectly using 2 dinner plates & a very sharp knife. 👌 works perfectly!
I love chocolate crinkle cookies. I made them for the first time a couple months ago and we are addicted to them, they are now in our sweet treat rotation.
Those cookies are beautiful. Food is memories. Sometimes walking you can pass a bakery or cafe and trigger a memory from mama cooking. God I miss her. She was an amazing cook and baker and thankfully I learned from the best. I really must make a note and make these for my neighbors for Christmas gift. Your property is so beautiful. You have such respect for your animals. I always went hunting with my husband for meat in the freezer and really miss that. Growing your own/butchering is so much healthier. Cost wise well here in B C I don't think anything is a saving anymore. We just have to keep canning when sales are on and do our best. Cheers
Sometimes the powdered sugar will turn slightly yellow after baking (because it absorbs some colour from the chocolate. To keep the white part really white roll very lightly in granulated sugar first then in the powdered sugar. You can also add a few mini chocolate chips to the batter. 😍🇨🇦
My grandfather found buff orpington made the best all purpose birds. He grew up in PA and that was their choice. The hens get around 10#, so a great dual purpose. He got 100 hens and 4 roosters. The roosters would pair up, 2 to deal with attackers and 2 to defend hens. Interesting, protection and defense from the roosters. At one point the neighbor dogs were harassing the birds, and the roosters were on duty with their sharp spurs. End of dog issues. Some were not believing, but were soon believers.
Your upper plate needed to be turned over the other way. Then you have a narrow opening to run your knife through. I hate black olives, too! Thanks for showing us Dan removing the stump. That was so fun!
I cut the cherry tomatoes with a plastic lid, a very sharp knife and works wonders.
GOOD JOB EVERYONE!
Thank you Chelsea!
I just found that cutting the dang tomatoes seemed a lot simpler than trying to fit them in any container with some kind of cover to slice them. Just my opinion, of course. Another great video, Chelsea! ❤️
Chocolate Crinkles is the name of the recipe that I have and I sometimes add just a pinch of cinnamon to the mix.. Yummy cookie. I can't wait to get a little warmer here in my state. I have a tomato plant that is growing really good in my house. I also planted some cherry tomato seeds couple of weeks ago and now sprouted up. Thanks for sharing your video. Love & hugs, Laurie
Flip the plates back to back the tomatoes will be in the bases of the plates 😊 it I’ll work 😊
Food prices have doubled since Covid hit. It’s incredible. When the prior middle class are two parent working families are now having to routinely supplement with food pantries says it.
A splash of lemon juice really brightens the flavour in Greek salad.
Chelesa, I love the new color of your kitchen cabinets. So pretty! Also, I'm loving the new intro!
Thanks so much 😊
You need to use a flat surface on top of the tomatoes such as a thin cutting board that way all of the tomatoes have equal pressure so they cut good.
Just a thought. I was washing dishes and putting in the sink to dry and as I stacked the dishes there I stacked some items over other items. In doing so, I misplaced a part to my mixer. I looked and looked and was so frustrated. One day I picked up my cheese grater and up inside was the missing part. I was thinking maybe your missing part might be stuck to some other item you washed??
Oh Chelsea, I used to live in Greece & seeing that beautiful salad made me so nostalgic. Happy Spring. X
I find it helps if I sharpen my knife just before I cut onions. The sharper the knife, the less tearing open of cells that release the irritating compounds. Maybe that will help, in conjunction with your goggles. Hope this is helpful.
You're not alone in that thought. I feel that way all the time. In our area it seems like things go up in price week to week.
So just finished making these cookies. You were much neater than I was, the confectioners sugar goes everywhere… Anyway, they are good. Very chocolaty; almost like a brownie taste to me. Fun to try!
Those cookies look delicious! Thanks for sharing❤
The tomato slicing trick works well with 2 lids from plastic tubs like cottage cheese. They are flat and the lip is small but just enough to keep the tomatoes contained. I love your videos!!! Best part of my day. Hello from Virginia, USA. :)
I am going to try the cookies soon! Thanks for sharing!
Take the same plates you used. Flip the bottom plate. The small round portion is where you place the cherry tomatoes or Grapes. Place the bottom of the other plate on top and hold in place as you slice through. Works like a charm.😊
Chelsea, the tip I saw was with two plastuc lids like from frozen whipped topping, etc, placed facing each other, sliding the knife between the lids to cut the tomatoes.
if you are looking for a fun activity to do with your kids- when we cleared an area of our farm for horse pastures- we bought metal detectors -found amazing things - and we thought it was land never used, but with what we found it was a used area- our farm was built in the late 1700's my grands love detecting the hay fields every year when we turn the dirt- and we find so many fun treasures
I love your video. I know a lot of people have great ideas for the tomatoes but I use 2 canning lids. I put the tomatoes inside the first then put the second on top. That way it holds the tomatoes in place but there's also an opening to cut them. Good luck
In the case of the smaller evergreen, even though some roots will be lost in excavating them, consider (if possible) digging them up and selling the living trees. Those of us without access to trees would benefit from your no-longer-needed trees.
I love your news letter because you add the recipes. But you are a favorite of mine to watch. I watch for your videos to post so I can watch.
I have to say, after last year, I'm very relieved to see your wildfire prevention. I know you will rest a lot easier this summer. Naive question: don't meat birds lay eggs that you could keep some going vs buying all new every year? Also: the cookies look delicious!
The meat birds are usually hybrid, so you have to buy chicks every year.
@@cynthiafisher9907 Ah! Thanks for explaining. :)
To cut your tomatoes try putting them on a plate then place another plate on top but upside down press down firmly and slice using a sharp knife
The little house I own, 990 square feet cost me 140,000 Dollars in 1981 and just appraised at 2 Million and homes of my size in my neighborhood are going for $2Million😱‼️
Stumps, that was SO COOL! It looks beautiful! Never heard of a "rock picker" hope you show us that too!
I have to agree Chelsea, 2023 was the best onion year ever. Not sure what we did different but maybe it enjoys the dry and heat and smoke we had last year. Ok maybe not hahaha. We really need a small dozer for our new property…..we may have to look for one. Great video. By the way….the cookies look awesome. Cheers friend 🌷🇨🇦
My Grandmother used to make those every Christmas
I love that you don’t mind making mistakes
Nope! Well, sometimes it can be frustrating but it’s also just life so better to laugh than cry!
To cut the tomatoes, you would need to turn the plate over to when you cut them they don't run away, lol 😂
Thanks for all of your great videos! God bless!
Cookies look great. So cool that Dan was able to repair the cat and clear the site - looking good Dan! I hear ya on the chicks - What gets me is the price of the turkey poults. This is why I am hoping to get a breeding pair to hatch my own. Because I have so many layers, the cost is over 1000 and although I could hatch my own, what to do with roosters has always been a problem for me. Anyway, good video!
Oh that salad looks so refreshing yum yum. I love greek salad. Lots of work getting done in the fields for sure that is wonderful. What a wonderful machine. Cookies look good. Looking forward to the recipe. hugs
Two deli lids for the tomatoes
We have a bulldozer but it’s not caged. Our excavator is totally enclosed.
Our meat birds will be here mid-May. We are trying Freedom Rangers this year. Last year the Cornish died, not all of them but too many.
OMG, these Cookies look so scrumptious!!! Glad to be able to get the Recipe, as I subscribed to your Newsletter. Thank you very much, Chelsea!😂 Greets from Hessen in Germany
What a wonderful surprise to see a video from you this afternoon. Have a wonderful week.
I've been looking for a cookie recipe to make with my 2 year old granddaughter, in particular, one where she can get her hands in and really feel involved in the process. This ticks all the boxes. Going to make these with her for Easter. Thanks Chelsea!
hey sista in the uk we have wagon wheels by burtons they are chocolate covered biscuits with a marshmallow filling
Additions like kalamata olives and rustic croutons work well in Greek salad.
I just noticed your sign above your cabinet about "normal family". I chuckled when reading it.
These are the best cookies. They are now called chocolate crinkle cookies and use bakers chocolate instead. Good to know you can use cocoa.
Once, when I was a little girl, I work up to my daddy having a pig that he was butchering hanging from my swing set!!
Looking forward to the cookie recipe. Thank you!
Ohhh, chocolate crinkles! I love them…..I’m 65 and grew up with them, made them for my kids and now my kids make them for my grandchildren….😊😊. (My mothers recipe had to be cut in half UNLESS I was making them for a school bake sale or a holiday)
Love seeing the progress.
We call those Christmas crinkle cookies! Yum!
The Greek salad and cookies looked amazing. I will be making the salad and cookies. Thank you for sharing a little of your life with us. I truly appreciate it.❤❤❤
I use the lid of a soup take out container( plastic one) and hold down over tomatoes and cut, easy peasy
Chelsea, so you need 2 lids from 2 of those soup bowls, you know like what you freeze soups in. They work perfectly against each other with the tomatoes in between them. Sharp knife needed
I like to use a serrated steak knife or a bread knife for tomatoes 😊
It does work for the tomatoes! Your bottom plate needed to be upside down. The lip of it helps the tomatoes from escaping.
The exorbitant prices are insane in our country 🇨🇦…. Love visiting your cozy kitchen today!!!
It's an old restaurant trick. Use 2 deli container lids, tomatoes between. Works amazingly. I'm sure I'm not alone, but I have commented about the Sandy grit of redmods....
Dan, great tractor work!😍🇨🇦
I do pink and Redmond mixed and then put in my spice grinder for just a few pulses and that has helped me balance the gritty texture and the mineral content of both. I want to add Grey Celtics sea salt into the mix but it is on backorder through Azure and I have been trying to get it for 5 or 6 months.
Sweet dozer footage!
Cool... thanks for sharing!
The chocolate crackle cookies are some my son makes for Christmas every year, smaller than those though.
This looks like what we call in the US, Chocolate Crinkle Cookies.
I make those at Christmas. I think leftover left over Hersey Easter eggs would work great in them.
Great visit with you & I loved all the things you showed us! Dan is doing great work with that dozer! My twin brother had a dozer a few years ago for clearing & said it was great fun to use on his farm. He’s since sold it because he’s semi-retired. I’m excited for all the progress on your homestead. Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
