If you sprinkle baking soda on a grease stain and then rub in the dish soap, that works well! You don’t need to spend as much time working it in. Just rub it in a bit and then wash! The baking soda soaks up the grease. 😊
Try the tap method for boiling eggs to break the membrane you just tap the rounder end of the egg not the pointy end you will hear the membrane snap then you can hard boil 😊
I never expected that boiling eggs may be so over the top, just reading the comments made me think I'm somehow behind :) all my life I use ordinary little pot, boil the water, place egg inside, 3 minutes to have soft egg yolk, 5 minutes- medium, 10 minutes-hard boiled. No matter if you cook on gas or electric. It's not a rocket science people, don't overthink it ;) greetings from Poland.
Keep your dish brush in the dishwasher (assuming you are not washing up by hand) and run it through the cycle. That way there is somewhere to put it out of sight, somewhere that catches the drips when it is wet and each time it goes through the cycle it is cleaned and sanitised. Works a treat.
Hard Boiled Eggs - I HAVE IT NAILED! I have been trying a zillion recipes for making hard boiled eggs. For years and years I could never find one that allowed me to peel the eggs easily. I finally found a recipe that works: 1. Bring water to a boil on stovetop. 2. Gently drop eggs into boiling water 3. Boil for 12 minutes 4. Place eggs in ice bath for 2-3 minutes 5. Peel eggs under running water It works! It really works. I've done it exactly this way 10 times now and they turn out perfectly and the peeling virtually falls off once you start peeling!!
I store eggs in the fridge, so put them in the cold water, then 6mins after it starts to boil the eggs are hard boiled. (Only about 3.5mins for soft boiled / poached eggs.) Thanks for this alternative guide 😊 I'll have to remember that too!
Nearly the same here, except I load eggs initially and bring to a boil, simmer 10 minutes (lid on). I’ve not understood the fascination with appliances when a saucepan does the job quickly.
I use a small baking sheet from dollar tree for my toaster. It serves the same purpose but because it doesn’t have the high sides I can plug in and use the toaster without removing it.
When I first started watching Minimal Mom years ago and saw that I could put my appliances, like my toaster, in the cabinet instead of on the counter, was a game changer. Brilliant! I recently saw a photo of my kitchen from way back when and said, wow my kitchen counters are so peaceful now. It's very interesting how my adult girls have complained about some of the minimalist changes I've made in their childhood home.
What I learned from a chef on PBS (I dont remember her name) and it has been no fail for boiling eggs. Bring your eggs to a boil and let them boil for 1 minute. Turn off heat, put a lid on the pan, and set a timer for 12 minutes. My sister taught me to crack the eggs all the way around and put them in cold water. They are easier to peel.
So Dawn, I learned this tip many years ago when I was probably a little younger than you from my aunt. Take your hard-boiled egg and kind of roll it around on the counter, underneath the palm of your hand, so you kind of crack it all the way around as best you can. Then turn on your faucet to tepid. With a slow stream of water, peel the egg underneath the stream of water. The water will start to get between the shell and the egg and help you pull the shells almost fall off. Now, yes, occasionally there's always that rogue egg, which is not willing to let go of her shell, but most of the time, it's the only way I peel eggs with consistent success and I'm 74. 🤗🥚. 🏖 Kj in Tampa Bay 😊
Oh, I also forgot to mention a simple help for breaking down a rotisserie chicken. I simply grab a pair of disposable surgical gloves from one of the dollar stores that I keep on hand. You will be amazed at how much more pleasant a task this becomes. Sitting down at the table, I just set out two extra containers : one collects the chicken, and the other collects the skin and bones. Meanwhile, my hands stay so nice and clean. Do keep some paper towels handy, though. 😅This is also beneficial if you want to take all the skin and bones, throw it in your Instant Pot, and you can make some seriously good bone broth. Instructions for that are available on Pinterest. Anyway, I hope that helps.🤗
I’ve used frozen popcorn kernels for a cold pack. When I clean off a rotisserie chicken I always wear gloves, and I use the container lid or a bowl for the meat and the bottom for the bones and skin. You can save that to make broth or stock.
Wow never tried popcorn kernels🤔 or the marshmallows🤔 I've always used water and rubbing alcohol double bagged with freezer bags. It never freezes solid because of the rubbing alcohol
Rotisserie chicken: wear Nitrile gloves! This helps so much with deboning chicken, and also with prepping raw chicken. Chicken bones: save the zip-top bags from veggies, etc., to put your bones it. It controls smells in your garbage and if you want to make bone broth later, they store nicely in the freezer. Monkey Hooks: My sister gave me some of these and they are the best! And I never knew about the fork trick but will definitely use it in future. Thanks for all the great hacks!
Yes! Bones and some skin. I put in the fridge because I used a couple days later to make my own broth then I vacuum sealed and put in our freeze. I can wait to make something with it!
Get those air fryer liners… I fought getting them for a while and finally gave in. WHAT A GAME CHANGER, esp for messier things. I only cook meat in my air fryer and this has made cleaning a breeze now. The only thing I’ve found is that you need to bump the cooking temperature up a bit and you have to turn the meat once. But my husband is the main air fryer cleaner and he loves the liners. ❤
I store my dish brush in top rack of dishwasher, which is right next to sink. It gets washed with the dishes every time I run the dishwasher. Brush stays clean. I recommend a higher quality brush. I had a Pampered Chef brush for 20 years before it finally broke, but it still looked fairly new…definitely it 20 years old! Love this hack!
Another idea for the garbage can is to put a large piece of waistband elastic around the can. Pull the edges of the liner down and hold in place with elastic. It’s worked for us for years!
No one can just tie the garbage bag band and then fit it over the garbage can, no command hooks or rubber bands needed. Just stretch the band a little and tie a small knot. Easy peasy
Great tips, thanks! Side note on the little battery powered light switches… we use them on our metal storm doors and fridge ( we buy the magnetic ones) and we’re all set for power outages come winter! They really do light up a room!
Hi Dawn! I’m from Australia and I love your channel! You have literally changed my life! I just had a comment for you and others on the toaster. I also have a small kitchen and loved the idea of putting my toaster in a basket in the cupboard but we didn’t have room for it so I put ours inside our roasting dish - still serves the same purpose and easy to take out and clean when there’s too many crumbs etc… 😘
I learned many years ago how to crack and peel a hard boiled egg. First hit the bigger end of the egg on the counter to crack that part, then roll the egg on the counter to crack it all around. Then peel it starting at that bigger end as there is always an air space there which makes it easy to start peeling. However, I had learned over the many years that fresher eggs don’t work as well no matter how I boil or crack them. I also use my Instant Pot.
The easiest way I do eggs is to put them in a pot of cold water on the stove, bring to a boil, then turn off the stove, put the lid on and let it sit for 20mins. Perfectly done every time and I don't have to babysit them!
I do mine this way also, and after they are done ,drain, place under tap, and run cold water over them while in the pot until cool. Works well for me. :)
I bring eggs in cold water just to top of eggs to full boil, turn off heat, put lid on pot, 10-15 minutes (depending on size of egg) for hard boiled that are not overcooked w/ green-grayish yolk and chalky tasting (I like the yolk slightly underdone). Put in cold water right away when done. Peel when still warm and shells should slip off easier than when cold. (If eggs are home raised, poke a hole w/ needle in bottoms before boiling- homesteaders hack I learned 40 yrs ago. )
Yes! I have a Krupps egg cooker and my eggs are perfect every time and peel super easily. I always use older eggs, not fresh and this makes a diy in ease of peeling.
For people who can't use products with certain ingredients, (or don't like to spend 6 dollars for a tiny jar), you can buy a bottle of liquid castile soap for around $5, or $10 for a large bottle. Mix 1 part of that with 3 parts baking soda. You can make tons of cleaning paste with that bottle of soap, and it works great.
When i saw your cup all clean i had this sharp intake of breath! That was awesome! I hard cook my eggs in a pan with a lid and shake it after they have cooled. They peel so easily, almost by themselves. I leave just a bit of h2O in the pan. So easy. If you don't have a lid, rap the ends on the counter and then roll the eggs a bit. The chicken ideas look great! Use gloves. I do the bread bag thing all of the time. It works well to double-bag bread or cookies for the freezer so you don't get freezer burn as easily. Love museum putty!! The fork idea is fabulous! You are amazing.
Some great tips Dawn, especially the picture hanging! The best result I have had with cooking eggs in their shell is to steam them. Seven minutes for a soft centre timed from the water boiling and obviously longer if you want them harder. They are easy to peel and very rarely crack. It's also easy to remove them at different times for different needs.
A hack I use for my air fryer and coffee pot is putting a plastic placemat underneath. It allows you to slide them back and forth and can be a pretty pattern or color! Could be used under anything heavy that would be easier to use if you could side it back and forth. They also catch any grease and coffee drips and are easy to clean!
I have found the most important thing for eggs is knowing how to peel them. It doesn’t always work, but does most of the time. Make sure to crack the egg on the large end where there is space and peel from there. It allows you to easily get under the membrane of the egg and it peels much easier.
Elastic band for all the trash cans in my house...the perfect bands come from the wide elastic bands on my husbands old underwear. They are the best, longest lasting bands I've ever used. I've been using them for 15 to 20 years now. Before that I used the bands from my old panty hose. Those work well too. The underwear elastic is stronger and lasts longer. With my small trash cans I tuck the bag under the elastic. With the kitchen can I just put the bag in the can, and then put the elastic band over the trash bag, and push it up to the rim. You just have to remind everyone not to accidentally throw your band out when they remove the bag. I just slide mine down on the can while I'm removing the full bag.
And the solution so they don’t break: at the round side they have a little air reservoir, so poke a little hole in here (with a pin, sewing needle or designated tool) and the air pressure can assimilate while cooking. Works like the windows in planes 🙂
@@mrsdove14 The problem (for me and apparently for Dawn) is that I have to get the Instant pot out from storage to use it. I have a very small kitchen with limited storage. I would never hard boil eggs if I had to use the Instant pot. It's different if I'm making yogurt or chicken stock; then it's worth it.
yesss!!!! I came here to comment the same. Such a handy device and takes up very little space. I tap the egg with a spoon to break the membrane for easier peeling.
Thank you!!!! The toaster in bin hack is genius and absolutely will help my family so much as we have two toasters, one for gluten and one for gluten-free. The bin minimizes crumbs in the cabinets, this is just a gem.
That fork hack. !!!!!! I have vintage and antique pics with wires and I fight with them all the time getting them hung again after cleaning. Thank you Dawn. 🎉. Also the masking tape. Going to save me many unnecessary holes in the walls. lol. 😮you’re the best. Thanks!!!!!❤❤❤
Lightly tap the (uncooked room temp) eggs with the back of a spoon until you hear a very small pop noise. This is the membrane releasing. For me, once I started doing this, they ALWAYS peel very easily (no matter how old they are or how they are cooked)!
I've tapped mine on the counter, lightly before boiling them. It works great, except I sometimes have one leak out of the shell. I'll give your spoon tapping idea a try. I have hens, and the fresh eggs are such a pain to peel without these extra steps. Thanks for the suggestion!
I loove these hacks! Thank You for all the good tips! I just saw a lady that had a challenge to wear all of her more tha 200 cloths in a year! I think it is the best way to see what you don’t like and won’t wear! She decluttered about a hundered items! Well I do not have a hundras items in my warderobe but still same thing applies! Lots of love from Sweden 🇸🇪
Hello Dawn! Thank you for another FUN video! I have a couple tips to help your "questionable" hacks. FIrst of all, I agree with all your fans who mentioned the convenient egg cooker!! I got mine at Costco for around $20 and you can do poached, scramble, omelets etc as well, but I use it for Boiled eggs ALL the time!! One thing that is crucial for boiling eggs wherever, is to use a thumbtack, or the one in your egg slicer, and poke a hole on the WIDE side of the egg! This is where the air pocket is. (BTW, you should always store your eggs with the skinny side down! Air bubble up). Once you are ready to peel, like a lot of your fans mentioned, WATER is KEY. First crack the fat end and either doing it under running water (making sure to avoid dropping shells into your disposal as they can block it), or just peel them in the ice bath they cooled down in. You don't need to hold them under water, just dip as you go, it removes the shell you peeled and gets more water under the shell. I can usually peel an egg in 3 to 4 pieces with this method. NO tiny annoying pieces! The toaster in the cabinet has been a wonderful thing I learned from you, THANK YOU, but after unplugging it, I just take it over to the sink, and turn it upside down to shake the crumbs out. Once in a while I'll remove the little drawers on the back and shake them out too, but just shaking it over the sink on your way back to the cabinet is super quick and I never get crumbs...actually, about every 3 months I'll have a few in the cabinet and while I'm vacuuming the kitchen I'll open it up and vacuum under the toaster. So quick and simple! PLUS it removes the chance of old crumbs collecting and possibly causing a fire when too many have built up. So just "Shake it Baby!" And LAST but NOT LEAST, I do the "under the breast or whatever piece" slide with my thumb method. This must be done while it's still warm and therefor slippery, but it's super quick. Then flip the bird over, do the same to all the yummy parts underneath and you're done! (I believe I saw this on a YT channel). Trying to debone a cold chicken is something you give to a child to do when they "earn" a timeout! But those $5 Costco chickens are the best and easiest to debone, and then save the parts for your own chicken stock!! And then let your doggy lick the tray afterwards! I LOVE your channel, thank you for the Free tix for the HQ tix! I can't wait!!
I have found that the magic erasers are wonderful for getting mugs clean inside, and for cleaning all sorts of other things, without any chemicals, just damp them and they really are magical! Blessings from Jilly & Madge. xxx
I put those battery light switches on the sides of each toilet. When the power goes out, there's no excuse for an oops!🤣 We now like the inflatable solar lanterns. They're mostly for people who go camping, but they easily fit in windows and are also handy in a power outage.
Another hack for ice packs is to get a regular sponge and get it wet ( not dripping), put it in a sandwich baggie and freeze it. I worked in a childcare center and a preschool and this is what we used. Then switch out for a clean sandwich baggie when done.
I got rid of my toaster and now use my air fryer for toast. I also got rid of my kettle and use my Keurig for hot water. Two less small appliances and still as functional. 😊
@@stephaniedougherty7845 yes, if you don’t flush out your machine, other drinks will taste of coffee. The boiling water, however, can be debated. Most tea companies will tell you NOT to pour just-boiled water over the tea leaves, especially for green teas, as it will destroy the properties of them. It’s important to check the actual water temperature required for each type of tea.
Hi Dawn. I used to HATE making hard boiled eggs. I always lost half the egg when I peeled them. Bought a DASH egg cooker. Thought it was going to be a waste of money but it is now my favorite small appliance. I have to use the piercing tool to make a small hole in the bigger side of the egg before adding the water and hitting the button. I can go get dressed and 13 minutes later, I have PERFECT EGGS! Total game changer. I do a batch of 6 every Sunday to get myself ready for the week
I love Dawn for laundry. Sometimes I use a Toothbrush to rub it in but it makes the fabric look worn or stretched out of you rub too hard so I Sometimes put it on both sides of fabric instead. Depends on the fabric. Grease on jeans, I use a bigger brush to get it in the grooves. Thanks for the tips!
Dawn, I highly recommend you try America’s Test Kitchen’s way of boiling eggs. It works every single time, and is extremely easy. The shells practically fall off in just a few large chunks. Also, only peel eggs under cold running water, never dry like you’re doing. You can find it on their UA-cam page….you put a veggie steamer basket into a pot, add water just until it starts coming through the holes, add lid. Bring to a boil, then add your eggs, then the lid. Boil for 13 minutes. Transfer to ice bath, set timer for 10 minutes. Peel under running cold water. Don’t wait to peel them, do it right away. I’m not kidding when I say it’s life changing. I do this weekly. I don’t have to buy any special equipment.
Steaming eggs is so much easier. I've now bought one of those little egg cookers. I'm not into gadgets normally, but they work so well - just steaming eggs, really.
I love the toaster in a basket. Clean countertops and crumbs contained. I find a pot for hard boiling my eggs super simple. 9 eggs placed in cold water, on med-low 20 min, turn off heat and let sit for an hour. Rinse off with cold water. My eggs are perfect and peel beautifully
My method is similar but quicker because I'm impatient lol. Eggs in water, turn on heat and bring to a boil. When it boils, cover with a lid and turn off heat. Let sit for 10 minutes. Then cold water or ice bath. Super easy and fast. Perfectly boiled eggs. Never overcooked, never runny.
For ice packs - I always have a pack of frozen peas in the freezer! They mold perfectly to whichever shape you need. And I made up a “happy pea” song that distracts the kids from whichever owie they have!
My go to for tea stained mugs is a magic eraser! Takes almost no effort. And I cut them in 1/4s same as your mom with sponges!! Highly recommend trying!
I loved the hack for hanging pictures and also the vinegar and soap hack for cleaning faucets and showers. I think I'll stick to hard boiled eggs boiled in water on my stove. Much easier and faster. They peel great after cooling them in cold water. No extra appliance needed!
Thank you for the cup cleaning tip. I was undecided about throwing away two white bowls that had these marks, they are my favourite cereal bowls. In the uk we have a cleaning paste called elbow grease, so tried it and the results are amazing Like a new bowl ❤
I will ONLY cook my eggs in the Instant Pot now! Pressure cook for 5 mins - natural release the steam for 5 mins - quick release the rest of the steam - put the eggs in an ice bath! They peel perfectly 99% of the time (there's always that ONE egg lol!)
I steam cold eggs in the steamer basket of my rice cooker when I start rice I'm already cooking; they're not always perfect but consistently close enough. No ice bath, just set the basket aside until they cool enough for the fridge. I peel them by putting a few in a jar, adding enough water to fill the jar about 3/4 full, and shaking them until the shells are quite shattered. Then the shells are usually very loose and easy to remove.
Love yout tips and tricks! I steam the eggs for 10-12 minutes, then cold water for 5-10 minutes. Crack on bottom of egg then peel with side of thumb. Turns out perfectly and my 3 yr old can even peel them!
I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to move the food processor to another spot and put the toaster in the cabinet. His question, “Isn’t a toaster an essential part of the kitchen decor?” Nope, not in my books, especially since we don’t use it much. Earlier today I moved it, and then for dinner we made toasted sandwiches, and no toaster on the counter! I asked him to give it a week or ten days to try it! We will see.
For eggs, I crack the hard boiled egg's shell and then put it back into the cold water for a minute. It seems that if you can water underneath that membrane that's between the egg and the shell, then the shell comes off pretty easily.
I am now drinking from what looks like a brand new coffee mug! What?! I didn't have the Pink Stuff but something I thought would be similar and it TOTALLY worked. I couldn't imagine that the grey scratch marks on the outside would come off. I assumed it was paint or whatever scratched off? Nope. You all have to try this one! Thank you, Dawn!
Hey Dawn, So many great tips! Thank you! Marie's Kitchen had a video on 7 air fryer recipes that included doing air fryer eggs. I do 6-8 eggs each time; 270 degrees for 15 minutes as she recommends followed by ice bath. I have had great success with her recommendations!
Please try a small spoon when peeling hard boiled eggs. Crack the egg on the counter and gently roll and crack the shell until you feel the membrane inside pull off the egg. Then, slide the spoon into the egg shell, making sure you put it under the membrane(spoon matching the curve of the egg.) Then, teeter the spoon way from the egg and pry the shell off. I like to boil mine, then rinse/soak them in cold tap water until they are cool enough to touch, then I do the spoon method and it usually works great. Good Luck! Love the videos!
Easiest way to peel hard boiled eggs. Run cold water for couple of minutes. Leave half inch water in pot with eggs. Put lid on and shake. Shell practically falls off.
Hey Dawn, I love all your honest advice. I got this Dash rapid egg cooker from Amazon a couple of months ago and have been loving it. It's easy to make hard-boiled eggs and clean. It is small and easy to put away. I know it's a one trick pony, but I eat eggs every day, so it worth it for me. My favorite part is I can set and do a chore or a little run. It will chime when done. Take care.
My mother who boiled a lot of eggs in her life as she had 17 children taught me to slightly crack the eggs before you put them in the cold water. I think it works as the water gets between the shell and the membrane which makes it easier to peel,
After cooking try cracking both end of the egg (I also Crack 2 places on sides too) then put in to coo in water bath. It works for me most of the time.
I like many of the hacks, especially the light switch and command strips for the trash bag. However, I still like hard boiled eggs in a pan on the stove at 10 minutes rolling boil. Thanks for the Tips Marathon!
I love these house hacks always so amazing and grateful for the advice and tips I learn from UA-camrs always appreciated can’t wait to see many more videos on your channel your videos are clear, well explained and edited excellently
PEELING EGGS TIP DAWN. Roll them a few time on the counter top to break the shell all over. Then peel them under a running tap. They come out clean. Lovely video sweetie xxx
I have a dollar tree mug that I love but it stains so much- can’t wait to try the Pink Stuff! Also- if you need to boil a lot of eggs use the instant pot- the shells come off so clean and easy.
My husband and I bicker over the bread bag closures so I came to the comments to see what others say lol. I use the ties and fold the flap to the underside and my husband twists the bag and folds it back like you demonstrated. I feel like this makes the air hole closer to the bread though. We might just have to conduct an unofficial experiment 😂
I got rid of my toaster years ago. My thrifty MIL made toast by broiling it in the oven and it tasted so good I started doing it too! Crunchy on top and soft on the bottom and not dried out 😊
Hi Dawn, inspired by yourself, I have toaster on a small tray which I lift in and out of press - even handier than putting it in a container. Thanks for all the videos and inspiration. Love them all !!
My egg slicer has a place where you press the egg down and poke a hole in the end (before boiling). This has worked beautifully. After the ice bath, break the shell and roll them gently… I use the side of my sink. Once the shell is cracked all over, the shell slips off - yes - slips off. ALWAYS USE OLDER EGGS.
The Instant Pot is my favorite way to hard-boil eggs! They always come out perfectly (one might crack occasionally, but…)! After removing the eggs from the ice bath, crack them all over (on the counter) and roll between your palms. The shells almost always come off easily.
I don't use Dawn power wash, but I saw a recipe on a UA-cam video for making your own solution using regular Dawn. Probably a great hack for those of you who like it rather than spending the money on a refill.
i invested in an egg cooker, cheap around $9-$12 when I purchased it, easy to store and makes 6-12 eggs at a time. I'm not a fan of gadgets for the kitchen, however this one has been a real time saver and worth its weight in gold.
Hi Dawn, I find boiling eggs is the easiest way to make hard boiled eggs. I just put water a dash of vinegar and salt boil for 15 to 20 mins and then let cool to room temperature and then peel put in the fridge and good to go
Thanks Dawn! I love my Dash egg steamer. I can make 12 boiled eggs at a time without watching the pot as I get distracted. My stove seems to take forever to get water to come to a boil. I’ve tried going back to the pot on the stove and also tried the AF but I don’t like that. What ever works for each person. I’m not a gadget person either but lurched my Dash brand new in box at a dark sale for $2 bucks years ago. Have a great day!

14:35 roll your eggs on the counter to make multiple cracks in the shell. It makes them easier to peel.
Sorry. I can do a regular comment, just reply.
9:15 9:19
I also use a regular pot to boil eggs, works great and I do it every week.
Same!
Same here. If you roll the eggs once they have cooled the shell comes straight off
haha exactly ! plus 1 spoon salt and you can peel them easily 😊
Same for us as well. And now where we live with the cheapest eggs in the store almost $3 a dozen, I’ll stick with what works and not waste any eggs.
Keep your dish brush in the dishwasher (assuming you are not washing up by hand) and run it through the cycle. That way there is somewhere to put it out of sight, somewhere that catches the drips when it is wet and each time it goes through the cycle it is cleaned and sanitised. Works a treat.
Great idea
This is what I do too
I do it too. And my sponges.
I do this
Brilliant!!
Hard Boiled Eggs - I HAVE IT NAILED! I have been trying a zillion recipes for making hard boiled eggs. For years and years I could never find one that allowed me to peel the eggs easily. I finally found a recipe that works:
1. Bring water to a boil on stovetop.
2. Gently drop eggs into boiling water
3. Boil for 12 minutes
4. Place eggs in ice bath for 2-3 minutes
5. Peel eggs under running water
It works! It really works. I've done it exactly this way 10 times now and they turn out perfectly and the peeling virtually falls off once you start peeling!!
Exactly!!
I store eggs in the fridge, so put them in the cold water, then 6mins after it starts to boil the eggs are hard boiled. (Only about 3.5mins for soft boiled / poached eggs.)
Thanks for this alternative guide 😊 I'll have to remember that too!
I do the same and perfect every time!
Nearly the same here, except I load eggs initially and bring to a boil, simmer 10 minutes (lid on). I’ve not understood the fascination with appliances when a saucepan does the job quickly.
Yes, SO much easier than lugging out an extra appliance! I'm a Mom of 5 and this just makes sense!❤
I use a small baking sheet from dollar tree for my toaster. It serves the same purpose but because it doesn’t have the high sides I can plug in and use the toaster without removing it.
Dawn! You deserve a sponsorship from Dawn dish soap.
Ha
She would be perfect!
Yes... I agree!!!
That's a great idea!
I love Dawn, I think I could clean an entire house with Dawn, vinegar and baking soda, that includes laundry and dishwasher.
Toaster in a bin has been a game changer. Thank you for all your great tips!
Cream of tartar removes all the stains from the mugs. It’s so easy and cheap because you need very little to scrub.
Or baking soda also works.
Bar Keeper’s Friend work’s great too
What I learned from a chef on PBS (I dont remember her name) and it has been no fail for boiling eggs. Bring your eggs to a boil and let them boil for 1 minute. Turn off heat, put a lid on the pan, and set a timer for 12 minutes. My sister taught me to crack the eggs all the way around and put them in cold water. They are easier to peel.
Vivian Howard is the chef.
This is how I do mine.
I agree that rolling the eggs on the counter makes the job much easier!
@aliceryan3399 Funny how it's the little tips that we pick up along the way which are so helpful. 😄
I’ve used frozen popcorn kernels for a cold pack. When I clean off a rotisserie chicken I always wear gloves, and I use the container lid or a bowl for the meat and the bottom for the bones and skin. You can save that to make broth or stock.
Popcorn kernels - great idea
I wear food prep gloves anytime I am touching meat.
Wow never tried popcorn kernels🤔 or the marshmallows🤔 I've always used water and rubbing alcohol double bagged with freezer bags. It never freezes solid because of the rubbing alcohol
@@Annie-Dom I tried that and I couldn’t get a good enough seal even double bagging so it leaked. Maybe I should try my sealer??🤔🤦♀
This is what I do, too. 😊
For the trash bags I put binder clips on 2 sides of the top edge. Those weird ones that have the little wings that fold back.
Another idea for the garbage can is to put a large piece of waistband elastic around the can. Pull the edges of the liner down and hold in place with elastic. It’s worked for us for years!
Something similar that I sometimes see in the hardware section of dollar stores is a specially made rubber band or bungee.
@@bettyberkey1047, same here easy peasy 😊
I bring eggs in cold water just to top of eggs to full boil, turn off heat, put lid on pot, 10-15 minutes (depending on size of egg) for hard boiled that are not overcooked w/ green-grayish yolk and chalky tasting (I like the yolk slightly underdone). Put in cold water right away when done. Peel when still warm and shells should slip off easier than when cold. (If eggs are home raised, poke a hole w/ needle in bottoms before boiling- homesteaders hack I learned 40 yrs ago. )
Bar Keepers Friend is the absolute best for removing utensil marks on dishes..powdered one.
It also removes iron stains from hard water in bathroom fixtures.
Yeassss we love this stuff
The fork hack - love it! Great video all around. Thanks, Dawn - appreciate you!
I love my DASH egg steamer. I know it's another small appliance, but it makes my life so much easier.
Same! I use my small dash 6 egg cooker at least once a week!
YES!!! It's ok to have what you want if you want what you have. That little egg cooker is worth the drawer space!!!
Yes! I have a Krupps egg cooker and my eggs are perfect every time and peel super easily. I always use older eggs, not fresh and this makes a diy in ease of peeling.
Dash egg steamers are great! And they are very small and easy to store.
Me 2 and everyone can use it including my 12 year old. Easy and fast!
Dawn! The colored marshmallows are genius! When the kids start eating the marshmallows, they forget about the Boo-Boo!❤😂
Love this idea for real boo-boos, but I’m afraid kids would pretend to be hurt so they could have a bag of frozen marshmallows! 😂
I do the same, but I use a plastic chopping mat, cut to size.
I have found the most important thing for eggs is knowing how to peel them. It doesn’t always work, but does most of the time. Make sure to crack the egg on the large end where there is space and peel from there. It allows you to easily get under the membrane of the egg and it peels much easier.
The hair dryer sticker removal has worked every time for me. Love it!!
I have never been able to get that one to work. I was so excited when I learned about it though.
You need an egg cooker!! You can hard boil 7 in like 5 minutes. You put an inch of water and press a button! We love it
And the solution so they don’t break: at the round side they have a little air reservoir, so poke a little hole in here (with a pin, sewing needle or designated tool) and the air pressure can assimilate while cooking. Works like the windows in planes 🙂
Instant pot does that too and then you don’t have to have a food specific appliance. I usually do 12-18 at a time. Takes 6 minutes.
@@mrsdove14yep!!! Exactly what I was going to say
They make big hair tie like bands that go around the trash can to hold the bag. Work wonderful!
Ooo I love your idea about the magnets on the washer and dryer! It will make life so much easier 😊
Thank you!!!! The toaster in bin hack is genius and absolutely will help my family so much as we have two toasters, one for gluten and one for gluten-free. The bin minimizes crumbs in the cabinets, this is just a gem.
different colour bins so everyone will know which is the gluten free toaster--smile
Use a small zip lock bag and 3/4 fill with raw rice. This freezes well. It easily moulds to the shape of your body where you need an ice pack.
🤣 and nobody sneaks a bit out to snack on.
Great idea ❤
Heather my farmer told me to always wait three days before eating the eggs, maybe that has something to do with it? 🤷🏻♀️
So just "Shake it Baby!"
And LAST but NOT LEAST, I do the "under the breast or whatever piece" slide with my thumb method.
Your hair looks really cute!
I have found that the magic erasers are wonderful for getting mugs clean inside, and for cleaning all sorts of other things, without any chemicals, just damp them and they really are magical! Blessings from Jilly & Madge. xxx
A woman named Dawn shows us some household hacks. A suspicious number of hacks include Dawn dish soap... coincidence? 😂
That’s really funny! If only I got a cut off of that! 😂😂😂
@@christineaurit5895 Dawn contains petroleum, that’s the secret ingredient.
Genius tip for the toaster!!! Slicing an onion with a peeler? WHA? I will be trying this!!
I love soft boiled eggs. Those looked cooked perfectly when you cut it open.
I have a 6.00 egg machine from Ross that does 6 eggs in 5 minutes. Amazing!
I got rid of my toaster and now use my air fryer for toast. I also got rid of my kettle and use my Keurig for hot water. Two less small appliances and still as functional. 😊
How long for toast? I got rid of my toaster too
I think that works for coffee… but tea needs to be boiling hot! My mother-in-law does that with her Keurig but all tea tastes weak and … of coffee 😅
I do the same with my keurig. Much easier
@@yvonnelanese-coppola4999 depending on the type of bread, and your machine, I do 3-5 minutes at 350 in my Hamilton beach
Get an egg cooker. Goes against your inventory mindset but they're great! Perfect.
@MissMolly75 thank you!!!! I needed to read this- I LOVE America's Test Kitchen and I am definitely going to look that video you mentioned
In the uk we have a cleaning paste called elbow grease, so tried it and the results are amazing
Like a new bowl ❤
Dawn in Australia we just mostly use a saucepan to cook hard boiled eggs instead of an instant pot much lighter
@@kathynolan1966 so do most people in the U.S. I used to too (in the U.S.) but switched a few years ago to the IP. One size does not fit all. lol
never tried the pink stuff before broke down and bought some when I saw this mug hack! it does work on colored mugs!!
The Dash egg cooker is the best. It is small, quick, and makes great boiled eggs
I will ONLY cook my eggs in the Instant Pot now! Pressure cook for 5 mins - natural release the steam for 5 mins - quick release the rest of the steam - put the eggs in an ice bath! They peel perfectly 99% of the time (there's always that ONE egg lol!)
You're the best! I needed a new littl dish brush exactly like that white and blue one but i couldn't remember where I got it from! Walmart! Thank you!
Throw away the twist tie and use a wooden clothespin. So easy and fast.
Love the picture hanging hack with the fork.
The fork-monkey hook one is genius!!!
I've found the key is putting it in a cupboard right above where we use it.
My hubby was annoyed at first a year later it's no biggie to pull it out for a few minutes that we actually use it at a time
I have my toaster in a metal cake pan. Keeps crumbs corralled and no need to take it in and out of the tote.

For eggs, I crack the hard boiled egg's shell and then put it back into the cold water for a minute. It seems that if you can water underneath that membrane that's between the egg and the shell, then the shell comes off pretty easily.
Works everytime
@@brendapearce8473We Brenda's think alike. I just listed that hint a few minutes ago. She needed to crack them before she put them in the ice water.

The rollers under appliance- Watch out for scratches on the countertop and rust overtime! I learned this the hard way.
My gosh you are so lucky to have a bread drawer. My kitchen is so old and small!

I’ve needed that fork hack sooooooo many times in the past. I hope I remember it for next time.
Hey, new subscriber here! I've been binge watching your videos the last several days.
I wish you lived close so you could help me declutter 😂
The hair dryer-sticker hack wirks really well on books with stickers on them too!
I really want to see your garden and how your gardening is going!! I miss seeing your gardening and camping trailer renovations
I love your videos! You always come across as so cheerful, practical and down-to-earth. Best wishes from Ecuador. :)
I think it works as the water gets between the shell and the membrane which makes it easier to peel,
I found this hack on a UA-cam channel several months ago. As far as I’m concerned, this is the only way to do it now!
Even if going in fridge for later?
@@faithbelleg7465 yes even if going into the fridge later. It even prevents that dark ring that can sometimes appear around the yoke.
I just cut the end of the bread bag off to keep it neater
Eggs is insta pot!! Come out perfect. Eggs on rack for 5 min cook with a little water, 5 min release, 5 min ice bath.
I push the egg button, quick release and then peel right away under cool water. Perfect every time
Yup! The 5-5-5 for hard boiled eggs! 🙌🏼
Yes to 5-5-5 method. To me it worth taking the Instant Pot out for perfect eggs that are super easy to peel every time.
I love eggs in the Instant Pot. I use the silicone egg basket to do 9 at a time when I need a lot. I now love making deviled eggs.
The Instant Pot is my favorite way to hard-boil eggs! They always come out perfectly (one might crack occasionally, but…)! After removing the eggs from the ice bath, crack them all over (on the counter) and roll between your palms. The shells almost always come off easily.
Dawn Powerwash (vs. Dawn detergent) is amazing for removing grease spots - even set in spots. Spray, let set for a few minutes, then wipe.
I just put water a dash of vinegar and salt boil for 15 to 20 mins and then let cool to room temperature and then peel put in the fridge and good to go
I just came here to say that the view out your kitchen window is PARADISE!
