I've been using mousse for 15+ years for my low porosity 2a-2b thick hair and for best results: 1. With head upside down, comb hair with wide tooth comb, apply mousse using praying hands upside down and scrunch. 2. Scrunch out the crunch by CLAPPING 3. Apply a drop of oil in a scrunching motion, only after done clapping out the crunch 4. Mousse dries faster than gel, cream, custard, wavemaker, or any other CG product (thats why its best for low porosity hair, best in cold temps) 5. When you refresh, use a little more mouse and water and rope 6. Smash down fly aways with a little aquanet (just a little) it wont flake no matter how many days in between washes 7. Best mousse is Pantene Curl mousse, 2nd best is Aussie instant freeze Thanks for this forum Curly Susie!
Lori, I think the Pantene curl mousse is cgm because I go it from Alyson @reallifecurlygirl. I’m pretty sure the aquanet isn’t cgm friendly but I’ve tried a lot of products and that’s what works for me. I don’t necessarily follow cgm 100%. I just use what works for my hair...hope this helps 💁
Thank you so much for the tips! I have low porosity hair and it takes forever to dry in humid/cold weather with cream or gel. I have a 2c thick hair, but I'll give it a try!
Susie, I am a teen girl who’s trying to start my curly journey early so that I can have gorgeous curls as an adult :) your videos have really taught me and inspired me to embrace my natural curls and maintain them. I’m trying to learn how to maintain my curls without frizz but I’ll get there! Thank you sm
I checked tresseme botanique curl conditioning mousse on "is it cgm" site and the silicone that has in it it's water soluble silicone, overall, the product is cgm approved
I used mousse on my hair as a teenager and I still think it's a great introductory product for people who are just learning to manage/embrace their curly hair because it's super cheap and easy. It allows you to get good results with only one styling product. Great video, Susie! I don't see many other curly UA-camrs talking about mousse! It's nice for us to learn about all the options out there!
I’m so amazed by how much volume you got from diffusing your hair with the mousse! I’ve never diffused my hair and typically let my hair just air dry. I recently tried mousse and am loving the results. I think I’ll have to invest in a diffuser very soon!
YES! I love that mousse! So glad you're sharing it with all the curries of the world. I've been using it for years specifically because of the simplicity of using it....and its about the only thing my hair likes. Lol. People are shocked when they ask what I use in my hair and its something so inexpensive and easy to find.
I've used mousse a few times, but didn't think to switch it up and use it on damp hair. I'll have to try it your way! (aside: I was explaining today that I used "a half a Curly Susie amount of Biotera gel" because I figure that's a standard unit of measurement by now)
My hair loves mousse too, it always looks fluffier and curlier with it! If I want second and third day hair I have to seal it with a small amount of gel. Just a little. I bet you’d like the Pantene curl defining mousse and devacurl frizz free volumizing foam.
Moose is all my mother buys so it's all i have to use... I literally don't even have a dryer but i still feel like this video gave me better insight on how to apply it so thank you!
Susie, the mousse looks great, and your hair was fab, but the best part of this vid is the editing! Girl, that syncing of your gestures to the music in the fast forward part gave me a good chuckle-I loved it! Well done.
Your results were AMAZING!!! 😮 I tried this mousse and loved my results too! But something about it gave me a headache. Not sure if it was the fragrance or what. So I switched to the NYM Curl Talk moose and got the same great results but with a LOT more hold. Best (and basically the only) 2nd day hair I've ever had with no refresh.
Hi. I'm a guy with really curly thick hair, and I stopped cutting it when the pandemic started. Right now my hair is getting really long, past my shoulders, and I needed some help with how to maintain it, so I searched for some videos on UA-cam. I found this one, tried some of your tips, and it's really improved how my hair looks and feels. Plus, I cannot tell you how many times I've had people tell me how amazing my hair is. Last night I went to get some food to go, and the people behind the counter were losing their minds at my hair, telling me how amazing my curls look, etc. So thank you for the tips. I really appreciate it!
I LOVE the curl talk mousse. They just reformulated it without silicones and it’s wonderful. I apply TONS of mousse, follow up with gel and get wonderful results. Get the volume and fullness from mouse with the definition and frizz control from gel.
This video is super helpful. I bought this mousse a couple of weeks ago and didn't like it because it didn't really do anything. I'll try it again with damp hair and see if it works!
What seems to work for me the best with this mousse is putting it in my wet hair after my curl cream and then plopping. It still leaves a cast but my curls look really nice after diffusing. I haven't tried letting it air dry as it's been too cold for me.
Omg so glad you made this video! I’ve literally been using this product for like 16 years!! I started the cgm about a month ago and have been trying to stay away from it and use other products like devacurl but I swear I get better results with this a the gel by the same line! Glad to hear it’s cg friendly enough to use! Thank you!
I really like this mousse for refreshing -- I mist my hair with water first, then praying hands the mouse in which adds extra moisture and diffuse, which is super quick because my hair didn't get that wet. Thanks for this video!
Hi Susie, I have great next day results when I spritz my curls with water and rescrunch. In fact, I can go 3-4 days with just one mousse application with this method. My current favorite is Sebastian Twisted Curl Lifter styling foam.
RIP duct taped hair dryer D: awesome video as always, thanks for the awesome mousse tips! Edit: also i adore your lip gloss the colour really suits you!
Fellow Nova Scotian here!! I've recently discovered just how curly my hair actually is and have decided to start treating it better to enhance my natural curl (I've only been using a curling iron for the past few months so luckily I don't have too much heat damage!) Your videos have been so informative and entertaining to watch, so thank you!!
Hi Susie 😀 I love you showing how you put products in your hair. Often, I watch UA-camrs show how they use 5 different products and break it into 20 sections and then use the Denman brush, finger coil and then diffuse. I’m like, 🤯! That would take me like 2 hours to do! I’m a mom with 4 girls (with super curly hair) and a farm to take care of. That is not going to happen! I like how you keep it simple and have beautiful results! Thanks for being awesome and relatable, and not making us feel like we need to go crazy with tons of expensive products and steps to rock a beautiful look!
I have used that mousse but not putting it on my hair the way you did. I an excited to try your technique because I have not had good results my way. Thanks to your videos I have learned a lot.
I agree on everything you said in this video! With this mousse, it is shiny but will only last a day even if I use a gel to hold it. I'll probably stick with gel for my everyday and mousse for some special occasion.
That has been my go to for the past 10 years. I've tried other products but that mousse is my absolute favorite! I've also used Tresemme's Volumizing mousse (mostly at the roots) along with the Herbal Essence mousse and they work for me
Susie, this method has been a GAME CHANGER for my 15 y/o's curly hair! She has very dense 3b/c curls, and has struggled to find a method that is simple (did I say teenager?) and leaves her hair soft and curls looking fantastic. After EVERYTHING, this seems to be it! The best part - it's CHEAP. I think that I've kept Chatters in business for the past 2 years. no more :) Keep up the videos, I love them - so informative and helpful!
I love watching your videos! I was born and raised in Newfoundland but the past year and a half I’ve been living in Alberta. Hearing you talk makes me feel so at home😌 I work at a sally and whenever I get questions about curly hair I always recommend everyone to watch your videos because you give great tips and give honest reviews on products and you’ve helped me with my curls ❤️
I’ve used Paul Mitchell Sculpting Mousse for years. It smells like coconuts, is moisturizing with enough hold to keep my curls intact. I’ve tried all the high end mousses, but always come back to this one. It’s available everywhere, inexpensive, and does the job.
I have much tighter curls, 3b and this mousse definitely gives me the best volume and lightweight feel. This mousse and the Shea moisture coconut & hibiscus mousse are the 2 products that convinced me to ditch gel for good lol
I have that blow dryer!! I love it!! The best!! And it fits the infamous black orchid diffuser!! Great videos Susie! It’s amazing when our hair holds with just mousse!
Thank you for reviewing using mousse. First time I tried the CG method, I only had mousse, so I used it. I was able to refresh a little the next day, and although it was a little more wavy, and not so defined curly, it was nice. Partway through the day, mixed some conditioner; sprayed my hair and crunched it. Looked ok. I'm not used to not touching my hair during the day so, this gives me a chance to update it during the day. I think I have a mostly wavy but some curly hair. I'm ok with waves. Appreciate the video.
Such impressive results! I really enjoy your down-to-earth presentations of products and method for curly girls. You have helped me find affordable products, along with ways of helping my hair look better with less effort. Thank you!
I also always use it on damp hair, I find if I put it on too soon it doesn't curl right. I leave mine up in a microfiber hair wrap for about 20 mins before application ☺
I finally got this mousse to try and omg my results! Best hair I've had since the spring/humidity started. My hair has been so weighed down with no curls and tons of frizz. This mousse was a game changer! I actually got the citrus version which is the exact same but has a strong hold, it's lasted my three days now. Loving it, thank you so much!
Your suggestion to use mousse on damp hair was a game changer for me! I’m so glad I tried this. I’ve used it to refresh and even on wash days when my hair is damp. Thanks for sharing Susie! ❤️
Great video! Thank you for being normal. Such a breath of fresh air. You’re one of the yew you tubers that I can actually trust... whose reviews are genuine. My hair looks great!
@@MonicaDxClove Mousse first, gel after. I don't use a ton of either to make sure my hair isn't being weighed down. I have a lot of thin hair like Susie.
I do this with the devacurl frizz free volumizing foam... but I'm running out right now to see if i can get the same results with a MUCH cheaper mousse!
I tried mousse and WOW! So shiny and bouncy! One tried mousse before and hated it but you are right, apply damp.. perfect! Thank you for the tip! Ps I used Giovanni mousse which has a nice ingredient list plus it is air charged rather than using compressed gases. Also, I was able to go a second day with very little refresh!
My mom have really curly hair and I have wavy hair. I ran out of gel and asked her to get me some. Instead of gel she brought me mousse instead. I thought that I would search how to use it so thank you for this video!!!! Now i love mousse!!
Ohhhh you should try just using a curl cream. I used the nym combing cream pink bottle. I used it as my only product. I did it because I was lazy Haha. My hair was my best hair day yet. I was in shock!!!!! It became my holy grail and it's super cheap!!!!
I can't find a CG-approved mousse in East Malaysia so I just use what I already have. I put a leave-in conditioner first then I put a lot of mousse in each sections, scrunching them, finger coil them, then when I'm done applying mousse all over my hair, I apply a heat protectant spray and then diffuse. Compared to gel, using mousse cuts down my dry time. But the curls are much softer and gets looser overnight and my roots don't curl as much. I like the look of it though and it's much more managable.
I have aaaalways loved mousse. I am not currently following the CG method religiously because, let's be honest, it's just hair, and I adore the way my hair looks when I use Suave or Dove mousse. Nice to see someone giving mousse some attention!
yay! a new hairdryer. I laughed outloud when I saw it :) I bought the Mane Choice pink lemonade mousse, and even though I liked the results..day#2 was odd. So I understand what you mean. Have a great weekend Susie!
My favorite styling products right now are this mousse and the same biotera gel you use. I apply the mousse and then the gel and it give me super soft hair. I actually have the same hairdryer and I really like it. I’ve been using the xtava black orchid diffuser attachment though and I love it. If you don’t love the diffuser attachment that comes with the Jinri, give the black orchid a try! 🙂
I'm shocked at how cheap this mousse is! Just got it at the dollar store n it totally works great for my 2c-3a, low porosity, strangely coarse hair! Love atchoo, sister! Xo
Tresemmé Flawless Curls Extra Hold has been my jam for years for my 2B/2C hair. Not CG friendly, however 😏 It holds my curls really well (with volume!) without weighing them down.
I can relate to you so much. I want them curls but I want minimal effort! As natural as possible to be as natural as possible ❤️ Also shows me I need to accept my curls as they are. I think I have the same as yours, long. I watch all the videos of Afro curls and I’m kidding myself if I think I’ll ever be that curly... yours look great so I’ll be watching more of your videos!
Susie!! Your hair has changed so much ❤️ I’m having a rough month and wanna give up and have been doing CGM for a year, this video and seeing your progress has definitely changed my mind!!
You're the first international UA-camr I started following from when I got interested in the CG method. I'm hooked on cuz I 'understand' what you're saying lol I don't know how else to say it. I mean you break stuff down & make it so simple that I love to keep coming back n binge-watch your channel when I need to reference back to something. Pls keep doing these simple, sweet videos Susie!! Sending you love & hugs all the way from India 🙏🙏🙏 Namaste !!!
One awesome tip that helps me with mousse is to open-hand scrunch in light weight products. It really helps my hair be more defined and I don't break up my clumps.
I like your choice of Salsa music for this video Susie! I’m glad to hear that you sometimes get some free gifts (like your hairdryer) - you work hard so you deserve to be pampered! 💕
Hello from across the province! This video is great, super helpful like all the rest. I usually mix gel and mousse but am going to try just mousse tomorrow and see how it turns out. My first Sally Beauty order is coming this week which includes the biotera gel you love! Can’t wait to try it! In other videos I’ve watched, you’ve mentioned you’re a nurse. Thank you for all that you do! Our healthcare system is in shambles and your profession is majorly suffering because of it. So just wanted to let you know you are appreciated!
Hey Susie 👋🏻 question: Have you tried just refreshing with a spritz bottle of water or water and a little condish all over and then scrunch or lightly diffuse the second/third day instead of doing the whole shower and co? (Apologies if you’ve already covered this! I couldn’t remember if/when you mentioned 😏) 🍀Hugs from NC! (PS my hubby is from Ottawa originally 😬👍🏻❤️ 🇨🇦)
Thank you for trying this out! It helps me! I think I may like to use mousse for certain times when I may have to style damp but not dripping wet hair or when I don’t need it to last very long. I tend to wet my hair in the shower every day anyway because I look like Medusa in the morning or I also exercise everyday and get super sweaty. If I don’t fully wet my hair I have to French braid it.
Used Deva Curl Frizz Free Volumizing Foam with your technique, then added some gel and had my BEST 2nd day curl day ever (after 10 mos of curly girl)! Hoping for great day 3 or 4, too. This was my first time putting leave-ins on damp hair vs. sopping wet in the shower - so much simpler and reduces my drying time. Can't wait to try it again. Thanks for demonstrating and sharing your technique so clearly. Awesome video!
Ive been using that mousse and LOVE it. I know I’m way late to this video, but I find for second day hair i lightly mist with water to re activate the product. Maybe add a little bit more on my ends. And run through a a nickel size amount of argon oil for shine.
Thank you for this video! I used to apply mousse to my soaking wet hair and then was confused about why my hair was so frizzy lol at least now I know why 🤷🏽♀️
Oh dear, I must have goofed and erased my message. I just wanted to say I love your channel. Very informative especially as a fellow Canadian I like that you show relevant products. I love your hair and you great way to explain the processes for ,working with curly hair... I used to hint I had frizzy hair until I started the curly hair method 2 months ago. I started it because I noticed my daughters hair was looking amazing and she was doing it. And when I get complements I share the secret. Keep up the good work ❤️
Wow finally a mousse! After trying many gels and creams I happened to c this mousse in the store. I also bought Clairol's mousse...which is even cheaper lol! For me, mousse is the only product that leaves me frizz free. These mousses give my hair incredible shine, softness, definition, and the Clairol's gives amazing hold. I do find that my curls are less curly but my main concern is having no frizz.
Great results Susie! My favorite mousse right now. Had never used it before, took a chance on it, bought 4 cans of it when it was on sale at my grocery store, tried it and loved it. Really need to get a diffuser. I've been using a mesh strainer.
I'm so glad I found your channel!! Just discovered the CG method and am loving the results. And my hair looks a lot like yours too! I'm inspired by the way you explain everything and your honesty on the whole journey. Thank you!
Funny! I just bought this mousse and tried it for the first time last Sunday. I loved the results and even got 2nd day hair out of it. My hair has the same curl pattern as yours but my hair has a medium density and I have thick hair, out of the shower rewetted sections of hair with a spray bottle and applied the mousse then let it air dry for about 15 minutes then diffused. Today I tried Not your mothers curl talk mousse, applied it the same way and had the same results. The ingredients are a bit better but the cost is twice as much as the herbal essence. I recently watched a video on another channel were they applied Dippity do curls for girls mousse and it had a wonderful clumping effect of their curls, they were perfect spirals like they had used a hair wand. I plan on buying it next time I go to Marshalls. You should also consider using jessicurl spiralicious gel, I had 4 DAY HAIR! It was great lol
I just watched someone on Instagram do this today too and they had amazing results as well! Thank you for sharing, I've used that mousse before and really liked it too!
I've been using mousse for 15+ years for my low porosity 2a-2b thick hair and for best results:
1. With head upside down, comb hair with wide tooth comb, apply mousse using praying hands upside down and scrunch.
2. Scrunch out the crunch by CLAPPING
3. Apply a drop of oil in a scrunching motion, only after done clapping out the crunch
4. Mousse dries faster than gel, cream, custard, wavemaker, or any other CG product (thats why its best for low porosity hair, best in cold temps)
5. When you refresh, use a little more mouse and water and rope
6. Smash down fly aways with a little aquanet (just a little) it wont flake no matter how many days in between washes
7. Best mousse is Pantene Curl mousse, 2nd best is Aussie instant freeze
Thanks for this forum Curly Susie!
Cristabel4488 are all those products cg approved? I haven't tried any of them. Even the hair spray?
Lori, I think the Pantene curl mousse is cgm because I go it from Alyson @reallifecurlygirl. I’m pretty sure the aquanet isn’t cgm friendly but I’ve tried a lot of products and that’s what works for me. I don’t necessarily follow cgm 100%. I just use what works for my hair...hope this helps 💁
Thank you so much for the tips! I have low porosity hair and it takes forever to dry in humid/cold weather with cream or gel. I have a 2c thick hair, but I'll give it a try!
Hello and thank you!!! What do you mean by scrunching out by clapping? Like in a praying motion?
Gabrielle you clap your hair on “crunchy” spots throughout

miral_rawy7 it’s nice to know I’m not the only teen as i have only seen adults in the curly haired community aha. I hope yours is going ok
Haha same! Teens are so rare in this community!
Rebecca Lacerda- hahha yes!! I think I’m doing well. What’s your hair type ?
Mia Ixchell agreed
Jazz Heart yeah I’ve been doing it for like 1-2 months
I love that you are who you are and don't pretend to be someone else. You say the cutest things!
The Tresemme curl mousse is really great too!! Keeps it SOFT but holds. No crispiness
I checked tresseme botanique curl conditioning mousse on "is it cgm" site and the silicone that has in it it's water soluble silicone, overall, the product is cgm approved
I love Tresemme.
Whoo sounds perfect!
Your hair just looks better and better each video.

Much easier to imagine than a "football pitch" size. I like rugby, it isn't the same!
My hair loves mousse too, it always looks fluffier and curlier with it! If I want second and third day hair I have to seal it with a small amount of gel. Just a little. I bet you’d like the Pantene curl defining mousse and devacurl frizz free volumizing foam.

Lauren M do you diffuse too?
I use mousse for refreshing day. I damp my hair, apply the leave in-conditioner and finish with mousse. I love it!
I have that dryer and love it. I love that it has a double filter on the back that can be cleaned.
Beautiful! I have always used mousse on my hair, just discovering the curly girl method, but mousse has done the trick for years!

This mousse was a game changer! I actually got the citrus version which is the exact same but has a strong hold, it's lasted my three days now. Loving it, thank you so much!
I’ll have to try the citrus version!!
How about trying the mousse for volume followed by your Biotera gel to seal & hold?
I've done this with a different mousse and Biotera gel, works wonders!
Kristen Jourdonais I’m going to have to try that!
Kristen Jourdonais do you use the gel before or after the mousse?
@@MonicaDxClove Mousse first, gel after. I don't use a ton of either to make sure my hair isn't being weighed down. I have a lot of thin hair like Susie.
I do this with the devacurl frizz free volumizing foam... but I'm running out right now to see if i can get the same results with a MUCH cheaper mousse!
I sometimes use mousse as a refresh half way thru the week. A light spray down with water then apply the mousse. Works great!
I LOVE your results! I have this mousse but I only used it maybe once... maybe I need to get it out again!
Looks great!! I think I like the gel look on you only cause its more natural looking, but this looks awesome too!
I watch so many of your videos. Thank you for all of your hard work, and taking the time to teach me.
The way you say mousse really gave away your east coaster accent 🍁
Going to give this a try tomorrow morning.
I have this hair dryer and I love it! Bought it four years ago and it's still running strong. The black orchid diffuser fits on it perfectly too.
I’m going to try to order that mousse!!!
Everything covered and well explained in sucha short frame ❤
Oh my gosh, thank you. I've been thinking if trying it as soon as my gel runs out. So fun.
yay! a new hairdryer.
Do you add the mousse then gel to wet hair in the shower? Or to damp hair?
Shiela McMahon I apply to wet hair in the shower
I'm shocked at how cheap this mousse is! Just got it at the dollar store n it totally works great for my 2c-3a, low porosity, strangely coarse hair! Love atchoo, sister! Xo
Hey! Yay! I have that diffuser/ hair dryer! It is awesome!
I have that exact hair dryer and I LOVE IT! It works really really well.
You gotta try NYM curl talk mousse and dippity-do curls. Amazing results!!
Tresemmé Flawless Curls Extra Hold has been my jam for years for my 2B/2C hair. Not CG friendly, however 😏 It holds my curls really well (with volume!) without weighing them down.
I always thought it’d be worse if I applied mousse to damp hair so I always did it literally in the shower. I can’t wait to try this!
Whoa! Your results look amazing!! I’m so tempted to try it now.
I use mousse for refreshing my hair after applying gel and curl cream on my washdays. I think it works wonders for my hair.
I can relate to you so much. I want them curls but I want minimal effort! As natural as possible to be as natural as possible ❤️
Also shows me I need to accept my curls as they are.
Mousse great idea!!! I have the Not your Mother’s version I’ll have to try it! Loving the new dryer, diffusing in style now!!! 😉
This looks so beautiful and so full of volume! I use mouse in mine and it’s always my go to. Thanks for sharing!
One awesome tip that helps me with mousse is to open-hand scrunch in light weight products. It really helps my hair be more defined and I don't break up my clumps.
Your hair has been looking awesome. Love your videos and down to earth style.
Your final results are so beautiful! Im trying this today!...
Beautiful! What an inexpensive way to achieve this pretty look!
Hey Susie 👋🏻 question: Have you tried just refreshing with a spritz bottle of water or water and a little condish all over and then scrunch or lightly diffuse the second/third day instead of doing the whole shower and co? (Apologies if you’ve already covered this! I couldn’t remember if/when you mentioned 😏)
🍀Hugs from NC! (PS my hubby is from Ottawa originally 😬👍🏻❤️ 🇨🇦)
I absolutely love how your hair looks. i'm trying HE mousse tomorrow! Thanks for your great videos.
Susie. - I use the Pantene Mouse followed up with your gel (Botanics) that you love/recommend. Then you will get your second day hair, I do.
I've had good results with Aussie mousse. The curls set shiny and bouncy and don't budge! I don't use it very often, just for special occasions.
Ive been using that mousse and LOVE it. I know I’m way late to this video, but I find for second day hair i lightly mist with water to re activate the product. Maybe add a little bit more on my ends. And run through a a nickel size amount of argon oil for shine.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I will buy this mousse ASAP!
Thank you for this video! I used to apply mousse to my soaking wet hair and then was confused about why my hair was so frizzy lol at least now I know why 🤷🏽♀️
me too lol
Oh dear, I must have goofed and erased my message. I just wanted to say I love your channel. Very informative especially as a fellow Canadian I like that you show relevant products. I love your hair and you great way to explain the processes for ,working with curly hair... I used to hint I had frizzy hair until I started the curly hair method 2 months ago. I started it because I noticed my daughters hair was looking amazing and she was doing it. And when I get complements I share the secret. Keep up the good work ❤️
Susie - thank you! I stepped away from mousse when I started my CG journey. But I would like to go back and try it again with the technique you used.
I love this curly mousse it works great on my curls thank you for a great video
Great results Susie! My favorite mousse right now. Had never used it before, took a chance on it, bought 4 cans of it when it was on sale at my grocery store, tried it and loved it. Really need to get a diffuser. I've been using a mesh strainer.
I'm so glad I found your channel!! Just discovered the CG method and am loving the results. And my hair looks a lot like yours too! I'm inspired by the way you explain everything and your honesty on the whole journey. Thank you!
Your hair looks awesome! I avoid mousse as it generally gives me really big hair and leaves it kind of frizzy.
To each is own. I prefer sexy big wet cutls
