Before this day I basically had one stiff curl that moved like a compacted wig where ever I turned my head 🤦🏽♀️. My routine is forever upgraded thanks to you 🥰🥰 thank you beautiful.

I think this young woman may have changed my life, I did almost every darn, don't she listed-- for decades!!! I can't wait to do this! Thank you for your wisdom 🙏🏾
As the only person in my family with curly hair, I am very grateful I found out about you. I am now planning to let my hair be curly. Ever since I was little, my mom would brush out my curls after I took a shower to leave me with a ball of poof on my head. Back then I didn't like my curls, but now that I do I plan to let them free.
CURLS 👩🏼🦱 1.) WASHING don’t put conditioner on roots❌ do start middle and near ends and work it through your hair ✅ 2.) STYLING don’t use to many products with reallly heavy ingredients ❌ do use water based products (aveda- be curly curl enhancer) (aveda- flax seed aloe) also very light weight ✅ 3.) APPLICATION don’t drench your curls❌ do make sure it’s wet enough so that you can hear the squish✅ don’t apply products directly on roots ❌ do start on your mid ends and rake it through squish the hair to hear that theirs enough put a little tiny bit at roots✅ don’t brush products downward❌ brush vertically and in sections start from scalp then go away on top of head work up✅ don’t put on tons of gel and rake down❌ do put some gel on your hands and scrunch it in✅ 4.) AIRDRYING don’t stand still while drying❌ do move your head around a bit flip hair over✅ don’t touch the curls ❌
I am a 61 year old woman that was born with curls but over the years I lost them. 2-1/2 years ago I had surgery and lost a bunch of hair. Due to loosing hair I changed my hair care habits and my hair became curly again. I have little to no idea how to take care of it. We are in a very humid climate so the friz is a daily battle. Your videos have helped me understand my hair and how I need to take care of it. My blood protein levels are still low so my hair has a long way to go but I’m learning how to maintain the friz while I bring back it’s health. Thanks!
Was recommended this channel by someone I met at Bible camp, she was the only one with curly hair, and I told her how pretty it looked, and how I struggle alot with my hair! Thank you!
Honestly, this is the most helpful curly hair care video I’ve seen. Half the time these video set super unrealistic expectations and don’t compare to the bad method side by side Like I’ve been putting my products in while my hair is too wet and probably using too much product
Okay Girl! I am almost 60 years old and have never known how to style my curly hair! But thanks to you ... I'm learning and I love it! You are such a fantastic and funny teacher! Please keep it up! And THANK YOU!
What to DO; > Shampoo/cleanse scalp then apply conditioner to mids and ends first and work it through to roots. >Use more water based products (gels) >Lightly apply products, make it wet enough to hear a squish when you squeeze the hair >Apply product mids to ends first and then work it through to the roots >Brush vertically and outward/off and up away from the scalp in sections. starting with bottom clipping off the top >use a small amount of gel, then scrunch it into hair >Leave roots with least amount of product >When air drying, allow hair to move and get airflow. To get movement in your hair, move your hair. Can flip to get air to roots and have more volume. But not the whole time - wherever the hair drys. It will want to stay Get volume before it drys >Scrunch the cast out and fluff out the root from underneath DONT: Apply conditioner directly to roots and pile it. Use too many products with heavy ingredients (butters and oils) Soak hair with product, no soaking dripping wet hair Don't apply any products directly to roots Brush downward A shit ton of gel (decreases volume adds more definition but weighs hair down) puts gel into the curls rather than the outside Don't be a statue when drying Try to get the volume after it dries
OMG this is like curly thin hair 101!!! I am in my 40s and I wish we had these tips and videos were available when I was 14. Growing up with the only one girl with curly hair in the family was a challenge. Thank you! I will try these tips. So excited! Better late than never.
I'm laughing because I'm at the beginning of my curly hair journey and did ALL of the no side and wondered why my curls are so flat 😂😂 can't wait to try this next week
You literally just told me what I’ve been doing wrong for 30 years. Thank GOD for UA-cam and people like you. I have hair very similar to yours and I have NEVER thought to get a water based products. I’ve been doing it wrong my WHOLE LIFE!!! omgggg!! I am soooo very grateful for this video and your channel. Thank you thank you thank you !
I've been practicing and testing finger combing methods/wide tooth comb on my daughter who has her daddy's naturally curl hair and omg girl! Your video about the "brush away and up from the root" for volume is fabulous. I am loving it! I am still learning how to care for my daughter's hair and teaching her the do's and don't. So she wont have to be too envious of her lil sis' naturally straight hair. Hair love starts young 💖💆💁 thank you! Her hair is fine and curly. I wont deny. I was completely intimidated by it AND in love with her hair 💖
It’s not completely “wrong”, it just comes down to preference! Some people like that look too but if you’re looking for volume, I’m glad you found this video! Good luck 🤗
I been in the curly hair universe since 2016, I can tell you that her tips are the most accurate tips for fine hair I have ever watched. Highly recommended.
As a guy who has curly hair I am truly thankful I came across your video! Definitely going to use your videos to better take care of my curls! I DEFINITELY need to start taking better care of my hair 😭😭😭😩😩
WHEN I TELL YOU I TRIED THIS ONCE AND IT HELPED EVERYTHING I NEVER KNEW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF MY HAIR ITS A NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE I WAS SO IN SHOCK I CRIED BC I HAVEN'T SEEN MY HAIR THIS CURLY SINCE I WAS LITTLE
I really liked both sides but I appreciate the lesson because now I know how to do my hair and have the volume. I’ve been doing the don’t side all my life. I have been slowly learning how to appreciate and care for my curly hair. It’s because of videos like these that really helped me through my journey. Thanks so much!
All my life people have been telling me how much they love my hair! I have been styling my curls wrong for forever. I cannot imagine how my hair will look if I style it the correct way! I learned so much! Thank you so much for this! You have amazing hair!

I’m so mad right now 🤣🤣🤣🤣I do exactly what you do on the don’t do side !!!!!!! I takes my hair from 6am until 10am to dry😪..... so happy I found you .......
if u wanna write this down/remember: 1. cleanse hair well (shampoo) 2. condition - do mids/ends not too much on roots 3. apply curl cream (start with a little product then add more as needed) - start from mids/bottom and work your way up - you know when you have enough product when you hear the squish 4. brush bottom half of hair sideways in sections away from the scalp 5. brush top half of hair upside down away from scalp 6. use a little gel on palms and scrunch - add more gel if needed 7. move hair around while drying, don't be stiff 8. once dry, scrunch and fluff up curls
I'm so glad you said it was painful when your hair was wet and cold. I've said I can't stand to air-dry in the winter bc it hurts my scalp and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy and they have no idea what I'm talking about.
I'm the only one with curly hair in my house and I only just turned 13 and have no idea how to take care of my super curly hair and this video helped so much thank you for your help if any of you guys in the comments have any suggestions pls let me know.thank you
This helped a lot!!! I have curly hair but it’s very thin and where I go wrong is putting the products directly into the roots of my hair and I never understood why my hair was not voluminous, now I understand why specially bc I have very thin hair.
Any other curly heads feel like while we love our curls it’s a life long job? When I get lazy with my hair, it shows. And I mean lazy as I’m not being so attentive to the details and steps. I still apply all the products but during the applying and drying process I just do it and then chill out without plopping all the time and helping define every curl.
1:19 five phases: 1:49 phase one: a good wash routine 2:25 phase two: products to use 2:56 phase three: product application 8:08 phase four: the air drying process 11:44 phase five: fluff and finish
I have to say, this is literally the only curly hair routine video I could actually pay attention too, you are so entertaining and funny. This has helped me so much, I know exactly what I've been doing wrong with my hair and I can't wait to try your techniques. Thank you so much 🤍🤍
Dude this video is literally amazing and answered every question that I’ve been wondering all my life. Everything you did on the dont side is literally what I do, including using Cantu coconut 😭 Thank you so much for this!!!! This is going to change my curl pattern SO much. Ahhh!!! Best video ever.
@@Tam___ This is extremely ignorant and rude. You don't know this person to assume what their hair is like. There are varying types of hair in the black community - some with 'white girl hair' and others with curly, kinky, coily hair. This video, imo, still contains information anyone can use and modify to their routine.
T. G I may be black but my curl pattern is the same as hers. I’m pretty sure this video is universal and has nothing to do with race. She also mentioned that she’s a hair stylist and has worked with all types of curls from wavy to kinky, so yea, I trust her opinion. I even tried it yesterday and her tips did work so move along
Please do a demonstration video on someone with thin/fine hair 🙏🏻 I have long, fine, wavy hair and struggle to find videos for help because all these women have thick luxurious hair 😅
Thank you!!!!! After a lifetime of what I thought was straight hair, a new hairdresser asked if I wanted her to cut my hair to bring out the curl. It was great, but I couldn't reproduce the effect at home! Now I can! Thank you so much!
It seems to me that your fluffier side has more hair volume largely because of where your part is. It would be interesting to see a contrast between the two sides if you had a part down the middle. That said, I really enjoyed watching the video from beginning to end. It made me forget that I'd been looking for something entirely unrelated!
I'm straight hair (never liked it lol, is 1a), but I have a *gorgeous curly hair toddler* (I think she's 3b,3c) and her hair is starting to get a little longer and I've been kind of struggling on how to style her hair, just realized I've been doing like 3 things wrong D:, and it totally can change the look of her hair, most because it's still so thin (because she's a toddler) so this video is a lifesaver
Thank you. I am just learning (at 50!) that I actually have curl to my hair. I’ve always been wavy right after a shower, but by the end of the day, especially if I slept on it, it’s straight and blah. I’ve been trying things over this past week and it has been curly, but no oomph. Watching this has shown me what I was doing wrong. I was close, but still very wrong.
You are an absolute angel. I'm serious. At 37 years old, I randomly encountered someone talking about the curly girl method; namely, how you might figure out if you actually have textured hair. AND. Guess what?! I have spent the last 37 years of my existence on this great green earth treating my textured (curl pattern as yet unknown, most likely 2B/2C, I've seen a few ringlets in there but can't get them to stay) hair like it's straight. Now, I really don't know if this texture developed at some later point in my life or I was born with it, but one thing I do know is that I was known for my suuuper long, PIN straight, bright blonde (freakin' platinum) hair as a child, and that I NEVER let ANYONE touch it. (Except my cousin. Love her to death.) So. Over the course of all these long years of blow drying and round brushing and sleeking back into a high, tight (way too tight!) ponytail.. uhhh.. needless to say I'm dealing with some major damage to my tresses. And. It. Is. Stressin'. Me. Out. But lo and behold ! An angel, with eyes that match mine! Gliding down from the heavens, head swathed in perfect golden curls, shining like a halo on all who lay eyes on her! Singing to me everything I need to know so I can take care of the beautiful locks I've been gifted! Genuinely can't thank you enough. You're a fount of helpful and insightful hair care tips and tricks as well as an incredibly funny, intelligent, and charming woman. This world is brighter for having you in it, and I sincerely wish you nothing but the best life has to offer!
I’ve followed your tips throughout your videos and I just want to say my hair has NEVER looked this good in MY LIFE. I’ve never had day 2 curls look good and I woke up and my hair was freaking flawless. Thank you, u goddess
UGH I've been trying to sort my curls our during covid and I have been so misled. I tried it your way and omg... Instant results! Thank you so much! I've been doing the don't side this whole time 😅... how did I not come across your videos sooner? 😄
Trying to find the right system for your hair is exhausting! It’s a hit and miss with my hair when it comes out looking goofy I just put in a ponytail and end up looking forward to the next wash to try and redeem myself 😂
Same. My hair is super thick and it kind just does the volume thing on it's own lol I don't like the way it looks if it's got extra volume added in since my curls still aren't very defined. I'm good with the more 'weighed down' look because my 'weighed down' looks more like her 'more volume' side once it's dried lol
I wear my hair curly because nothing else lasts in the summer months n my routine is ur "don't" side 🙄 I love how your "do" side looks, but noticed you used different products. Made me wonder how different the outcome would be. Can u do a video using the same products?
Hello, my daughter and you are hair twins, and it’s been quite the journey on figuring out what works for her hair and just recently we cut it short and I came across your channel and I am so thankful because it gives her the extra confidence to see that curls are beautiful.
Mell, could you make a video on the topic of 2b-3a hair? It is so hard to find people talking about the correct methods for hair that curls on day 1 of a wash but curls fall any time after
FINALLY SOME ACTUAL INFO ON THE HOW TO PUT ON PRODUCTS AND TECHNIQUES, ALL I CAN EVER FIND IS FREAKING PRODUCTS REC But no info on how to. I am extremely new to the haircare world and it's so hard to find infos

Nara Orozco I still brush out my curls till this day 😂😅
CURLS 👩🏼🦱

Half the time these video set super unrealistic expectations and don’t compare to the bad method side by side
Like I’ve been putting my products in while my hair is too wet and probably using too much product
Okay Girl! I am almost 60 years old and have never known how to style my curly hair! But thanks to you ... I'm learning and I love it! You are such a fantastic and funny teacher! Please keep it up! And THANK YOU!
What to DO;
> Shampoo/cleanse scalp then apply conditioner to mids and ends first and work it through to roots.
>Use more water based products (gels)
>Lightly apply products, make it wet enough to hear a squish when you squeeze the hair
>Apply product mids to ends first and then work it through to the roots
>Brush vertically and outward/off and up away from the scalp in sections. starting with bottom clipping off the top
>use a small amount of gel, then scrunch it into hair
>Leave roots with least amount of product
>When air drying, allow hair to move and get airflow. To get movement in your hair, move your hair. Can flip to get air to roots and have more volume. But not the whole time - wherever the hair drys. It will want to stay
Get volume before it drys
>Scrunch the cast out and fluff out the root from underneath
DONT:
Apply conditioner directly to roots and pile it.
Use too many products with heavy ingredients (butters and oils)
Soak hair with product, no soaking dripping wet hair
Don't apply any products directly to roots
Brush downward
A shit ton of gel (decreases volume adds more definition but weighs hair down) puts gel into the curls rather than the outside
Don't be a statue when drying
Try to get the volume after it dries
Girl that’s the only curly hair video any girl needs, it explains EVERYTHING
OMG this is like curly thin hair 101!!! I am in my 40s and I wish we had these tips and videos were available when I was 14. Growing up with the only one girl with curly hair in the family was a challenge. Thank you! I will try these tips. So excited! Better late than never.
Amen! Couldn't agree more. I also am late UA-cam just was not around 🤣.
This tutorial was recorded almost 2 years ago now and I find it hilarious!!! I'm glad I stumbled up on it, I'm a huge air dryer fan
I'm laughing because I'm at the beginning of my curly hair journey and did ALL of the no side and wondered why my curls are so flat 😂😂 can't wait to try this next week
Let us know how it goes!
You literally just told me what I’ve been doing wrong for 30 years. Thank GOD for UA-cam and people like you. I have hair very similar to yours and I have NEVER thought to get a water based products.
Does not air drying it still work the same
As a newbie to the natural hair routine, I swear this is the best instructional hair video I've seen. Thanks:)
Its honestly quite extraordinary how the same hair can get such different results depending on how you manage it.
Finally! A video that tells me how to style my hair, air dried, 😄 because I can't afford a diffuser-yet. 😅😐
I know right!? I am the same way right now, but I do hope to buy one someday 😂
I’m ashamed to say that my routine is the entire don’t side 😫 I can see clearly now that I was wrong! THANK YOU!❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s not completely “wrong”, it just comes down to preference! Some people like that look too but if you’re looking for volume, I’m glad you found this video! Good luck 🤗

As a guy who has curly hair I am truly thankful I came across your video! Definitely going to use your videos to better take care of my curls! I DEFINITELY need to start taking better care of my hair 😭😭😭😩😩
This is probably the BEST CURLY HAIR VIDEO IVE EVER SEEN. WOW. Thank you! 😫😫
1:51 1. Don’t drown your roots with conditioner
2:31 2. Don’t use too many ingredients in products
2:56 3. How to learn the “technique”
4:33 4. Start from your mid-ends
5:21 5. Brush in other directions
for the second tip you might mean "using products with too many ingredients that weigh your hair down" *
this video changed the game. period. i want to wash my hair now and do literally everything she did
😱 I didn’t know I could move/should move!!! Game changer!!! I’ve been sitting on my couch like a gargoyle trying to let my hair dry! I’m 🤯
I’m so mad right now 🤣🤣🤣🤣I do exactly what you do on the don’t do side !!!!!!! I takes my hair from 6am until 10am to dry😪..... so happy I found you .......
I hope my tips help you 🤞
I have been doing the DONT side my whole life, wo THANK YOU! I havent tried your way yet but I for sure will give this a go!
if u wanna write this down/remember:
1. cleanse hair well (shampoo)
2. condition - do mids/ends not too much on roots
3. apply curl cream (start with a little product then add more as needed) - start from mids/bottom and work your way up - you know when you have enough product when you hear the squish
4. brush bottom half of hair sideways in sections away from the scalp
5. brush top half of hair upside down away from scalp
6. use a little gel on palms and scrunch - add more gel if needed
7. move hair around while drying, don't be stiff
8. once dry, scrunch and fluff up curls

@@SuperDary27 thank you will definitely check it out
Basic tip; haircuts matter. If you want nice curls, get a haircut that works (lots of layers).
Agree
I think this is the best curly hair routine video I found yet, can't wait to try this**
your left, my right is how my hair usually looks after drying. i had NO IDEA that i was doing everything wrong! mell, you're an ANGEL!!!
This helped a lot!!! I have curly hair but it’s very thin and where I go wrong is putting the products directly into the roots of my hair and I never understood why my hair was not voluminous, now I understand why specially bc I have very thin hair.
can you make a video on your favorite drugstore water based products ? it would really help a girl out 💞
Any other curly heads feel like while we love our curls it’s a life long job? When I get lazy with my hair, it shows. And I mean lazy as I’m not being so attentive to the details and steps. I still apply all the products but during the applying and drying process I just do it and then chill out without plopping all the time and helping define every curl.
Now I understand why my hair is so flat! 😑 My hair looks like the "don't" side every time. I can't wait to try your tips. Thank you!!!
1:19 five phases:
1:49 phase one: a good wash routine
2:25 phase two: products to use
2:56 phase three: product application
8:08 phase four: the air drying process
11:44 phase five: fluff and finish

What is the best hair product to use 🤔
i loved this! super helpful cause it's so hard to avoid "triangle" hair when you're a curly girl➰
my hair on a good day looks like the "don't" side omg. I will definitely try this out on my next wash day
I have to say, this is literally the only curly hair routine video I could actually pay attention too, you are so entertaining and funny.
I even tried it yesterday and her tips did work so move along
she’s totally that hair stylist that is her clients best friends and they give each other all the tea while they’re getting their hair done
Please do a demonstration video on someone with thin/fine hair 🙏🏻
I have long, fine, wavy hair and struggle to find videos for help because all these women have thick luxurious hair 😅
Savannah's Vegan Eats yasss!
Thank you!!!!! After a lifetime of what I thought was straight hair, a new hairdresser asked if I wanted her to cut my hair to bring out the curl. It was great, but I couldn't reproduce the effect at home! Now I can! Thank you so much!
I actually need to lose the volume so I guess I'll be doing all the don'ts. Thanks for this.
Tehreem Raza SAME!
It seems to me that your fluffier side has more hair volume largely because of where your part is. It would be interesting to see a contrast between the two sides if you had a part down the middle. That said, I really enjoyed watching the video from beginning to end. It made me forget that I'd been looking for something entirely unrelated!
I clicked this video bc my hair looked like the “don’t” side 🥴! Thank you sooo much for this! 💛
I air dry my hair like that since years and its realy the best way to get your hair dry and more volume in a healthy way!
I literally just did the routine for the don’t side.... 🙄😂😂😂 i ended the style process like “why aren’t my roots curly?!” WELP HERES MY ANSWER LOL
THIS SAVED MY HAIRRRRRR. the wrong side is everything i do to my hair . omg i cant
I honestly think mell doesnt know how to make her hair look bad, because both sides are goals for me
Same 😂
You are an absolute angel.
'If you do anything like I did on the 'dont' side this may be your problem'
I literally do all of that 😭
Thanks for the tips!
hi im 13 year old girl can i use hair cream or anything beacause back part of my hair is a bit srtaight and i dont have volume on top

Curly hair is so much work 😭 I just got a few curly hair products for the first time and I'm going to do this.. wish me luck
UGH I've been trying to sort my curls our during covid and I have been so misled. I tried it your way and omg... Instant results! Thank you so much! I've been doing the don't side this whole time 😅... how did I not come across your videos sooner? 😄
Imma try it now I’ve seen a lot of good comments well if im going to order the product
lmao i didnt even know i had curly hair until my mom and I went to a different person for our hair
Trying to find the right system for your hair is exhausting! It’s a hit and miss with my hair when it comes out looking goofy I just put in a ponytail and end up looking forward to the next wash to try and redeem myself 😂
Amen! Thank God for messy buns!
I have puffy hair and tons of volume. I came here to see the don't to weigh down my hair. It looks so pretty on your hair. ❤❤
Sameee I love the way the flat defined side looks lol
Can u do a video using the same products?
damn I was doing most things on the don't list and wondering WHY CANT I GET VOLUME😂😂😂 thank you for helping a girl out ily
