@@Erix7810 Not a chevy fan, but I did buy an 02 like you did, and it had 244k miles on it when I sold it for 500 bucks and still ran great (timing chain was making noise though). All it needed was fluids changed, spark plugs, and new coil packs.
The glory days when a one eyed demon (car with one headlight and the working one aimed high) driven by a drunk ,comes out of the winter 02:00 hrs drizzle and sleet, on a single carriagway ,way over the speed limit, driving straddled on the white line and cleaves your door mirror off at a combined speed of plus 120mph. @@PatoneLol Around 70% of new cars come with electronic parking brakes, in fact the VW UP and VW Polo are the only cars in the VW range to still come with a handbrake.
The USD prices for the Jag and Capri are straight conversions at the current exchange rate, not the advertised prices from back in the day. Ford proudly advertised an $1800 launch price for a stripper Pinto and the Capri would've been upscale of it so $2500 at least. Granted that would've been for a 2.0 with the GXL trim in all but name.
@@Incomudro1963 Power windows are expensive to fix. You could easily upgrade the standard winch system into a quick lever that takes no time to open and close and doesn't need a stupid motor.
I absolutely despise the fake engine noise speaker crap, i will honestly never buy a car that plays a pretend noise at me instead of just having a nice engine and exhaust system!
I feel like it will finally be useful when everyone has to drive an electric car when we run out of gas in 55 years. A Tesla should have a noise atleast to let you know your going somewhere

Talk to me about plastic... It may be strong as steel, light as a feather and can give you blowjobs while you drive, it's still a putrid atrocious filth when you slap a slab of good steel next to it... Regardless of it's purpose... If you want it light, use titanigold or just regular titanium... Fuck plastic... Compressed turds into shape is what it is...
No, I’m talking plastic, as plastic refers to a myriad of chemical compounds that we use nowadays, some are strong, some elastic, some lubricious, bla bla... I wrote the previous comment in reference to those moronic claims that plastics are superior to proper metal... And regarding the carbon fiber, yeah, that is plastic aswell, carbon fiber reinforced epoxy resin to me is plastic, a phenomenal plastic, which I do appreciate since I actually learned how to work with it, but all it’s great pluses aside, hoe is a hoe and carbon fiber, even carbon-kevlar epoxy is still plastic, with bits in it... if you have chunks of corn in yer crap, you still call it crap... The carbon, carbon kevlar or carbon titanium kevlar matrices are still trapped in epoxy which is similar to plastique in every notable way...
Also, its not in my opinion, it’s by definition, as far as I recall, plastic refers by definition to any polymeric material that can be moulded while soft and then through form specific methods is hardened into a final product, as I said, reinforcement and other additions to it don’t make it any less plastic... just to be clear as i wrote in my opinion, not opinion but scientifically recognized definition...
thats because they all meet the smae safety standards, i.e headlights at same height, bumpers that are huge and safe if you hit a pedestrian, aerodynamics are all the same.
Hate modern infotainment (or screens in general). Love Bluetooth. Love the 1 inch screen giving me speed, don't mind the 3 inch screen in the distance telling me boost, water and engine oil temp, but that's it. Make car interiors analog again. Nothing dates a car more then infotainments, like they're 5 years older then they actually are.
Buggatti have refused to use digital screens in their because they do do not want their cars to age badly. I've seen cars with 15 year old screens in the centre console and the display is low res grainy and dull and some of the digital graphics on the dashboard are just as bad.
@@xGxPhantomZzz Xenons are a nightmare for everyone period they are just dreadful if they go up a slight bump or are facing you whilst going down a hill they leave you dazzled for a good 2 minutes, LEDs are a bit better but even so they are pretty bad whats worse all these high riding SUV's are being fitted with them too and they beam down into your car especially if you ride low. Back when those old cars were new you didn't have texting and driving. I mean, yeah, you still had bad drivers but nothing like the people on the roads today.
Ghost Assassin come to Houston Texas holy shit everyone here drives like they do t care about their life they cut you when you're doing 80 on the freeway it's fucking scary to drive here
@Trxsh realistically, how many times do you think anyone ends up in that situation? I've never had a car without a key, and never in my entire life had that problem. Also, if your car door is broken, you can go to the passenger side, right? Smh
My 2003 Honda can tell me pretty close to what is wrong via OBDII codes. I use a Chinese OBDII scanner from eBay that costs $15. Google then tells me what the code means. It is actually easier to fix than older cars I have owned.
at least back then you got a key! might of been easy to get into but not as easy as a keyless entry car! with a keyless entry car not only can they get in but take your car in a few seconds with a signal scanner!
My car history (going by age) is: 1970 VW 411L: Traded in 1982 BMW 518i E12/8: Stolen 1987 Mazda 323 (1.5 SL, pretty rare model these days and very rare in that condition) 1999 BMW Z3 2.8 That Z3 is about the only 90's car that I'm willing to own, and I'm not willing to go post '00.
I almost cried at the smell part. My dad used to have a BMW E21 back in 2006 and I still remember its smell :(((((((( I still think about that car everyday
horses have soul... a human slave pulling a carriage have soul too, in the future some people will say that 2017 cars have soul, but electrics dont hahahaahhaha
LMAO, I once special ordered a MINI and specified that I wanted a plain old steering wheel. They didn't get the memo exactly: the buttons were still there but they were deactivated! On the other hand, at least nothing will short out if I accidentally spill a drink on the steering wheel as the salesperson told me that the buttons had no wiring behind them.
Three, metal spokes with either a wood or leather wrapped rim is. No fat spokes with buttons galore, no two or four rubbery/chubby spokes, just a wheel I can grip, spokes and a small center hub....except the small center hub makes it tough to cram an airbag in there. Tradeoffs, oh well.
as a guy who daily drives a stock BMW 2002 (referring to the model, not the year, shhhh) i can say that the wing windows are so great, and the smell of an actual old car is just wonderful too
I really miss the time when BMW and Mercedes actually made decent cars that would last. If you buy one these days, keeping it after the warranty has expired is risky AF!
If you get a diesel e90-e91 BMW 318D or 320D with minimum options (No iDrive) they last pretty damn long, mine has now done 150k miles with nothing but regular service, nothing has ever broken yet! And I've seen a few with over 400k! If you look hard enough, there are many modern reliable cars, it's just that they are a lot less common, and most of them are very basic.
@@gmodderr 150K? Big deal, thats nothing. I got an 06 Suzuki that has the same reliability and I bought it new and put on 155K and basically just bought 3 batteries and tires.
@@djb6496 Dude I meant for a modern german car, I drive old Volvos, Ladas and the occational american car most of the time so yeah, compared to my 500k mile Volvo 740, a 150k BMW is not much to brag about
Old cars were little, compact. Best example: remember the original Mini Cooper, it used to be a little sporty city car, now look at those inflated Mini jeeps/suvs
Dude, couldn't agree more. Look at the new VW Polo, It looks like its the size as Golf 6. I get the appeal of larger cars, but don't inflate small cars. I mean the latest Audi a3 looks the size of Audi A4 B5 with less boot space. Just come on!
This for sure. I walk up to my friends E30 and realize its the same size as most modern 2 seaters, yet on the inside has all the space you need (and plenty of visibility). Easier to park and drive, and there's plenty of advantages from the reduced weight. I think they look better when they aren't so bloated too.
I have a large proper 4 seater coupe of the 90's... parked next to a Corsa its smaller, how is that even possible, and old cars have way more space inside
i drive an e30 coupe and i compared it to my buddy's 1 series coupe, theyre pretty much the same length, the 1 series is a lot wider and you can only seat 2 in the 1 series compared to 4, and maybe 5 if youre really pushing it in my e30, wouldnt say easier to park though, without power steering it can be a hard assignment sometimes
I also hate how quiet new cars are, not because of the quietness itself but because you have to listen to the annying tire noise. I'd much rather listen to the engine sound.
So true. Old engine sounds are the best. For example here in Germany there are a lot of Trabant's on our street. These are old two stroke cars with nice sound. Love that. Or an old Impreza from 1996, a E30, etc.
I hate how Cadillac have to make their cars sporty and luxury like you guys been know for making Road boats that no matter what feels like you're laying on a cloud for years and now you're gonna make a sports sedan because the "Germans did it and it worked out for them" yeah and how many of those cars didn't have electric problems or still runs.
So true, those goddamn xenons. Its the worst when you are driving on a slight hill and pulling up to a traffic stop and as you go up and a car with xenons is standing across you it just blinds you instantly
My car has no AC, no power steering, no electric windows, no electric/heated mirrors, no height adjustable seat or steering wheel, doesn't even have a rev gauge and the engine temp gauge doesn't work which some would see as an problem but I see it as 1 less thing to go wrong... as it already has
Old cars use to come with a user's manual that practically showed you how to fix your car. Now they just explain the purpose of all the buttons inside and give you numbers or suggestions about who to call in case you get a flat tire.
Ugh, so true. What's worse is they seem to be removing jacks and spare tires from cars more often. I was VERY relieved when I peeked under my car's trunk floor cover and saw a jack and tire.
HID and LED lighting on vehicles needs serious regulation, they're blindingly bright, which is a hazard ironically. And people who equip them for vanity need their asses kicked so hard.
Thats a idiote complaint! No,the older LED headlights couldnt properly fit the reflector headlight. So the glare got everywhere.Nowadays there are far better LED headlights but they are still expensive. So they buy the crap ones on Ebay.
There is nothing wrong with LED HID lights, Nothing what so ever if its orignal from factory. The problem is the people that installs kits thats not made for that car at all, halogen projectors/reflectors for example is not made for LED lights, theyre made just for halogen. Problem is also Drivers that buys cheapest option car with manual light height adjustment, they just have to point them way to high, then we also got the fuckers that dont put their light stalk into auto... So DRL`s r on at night and tailights r off... Whole point with DRL`s is to blend drivers during daylight, low beams does not workt he same way (to u that think low beams work the same way as DRL`s r dumb)
You Thana especially now where there’s so many car limitations and laws and traffic rules and what not now a days, it’s hard for a lot of people to not think of their car as just a thing to take them from point A to point B.
Dakota Johnson when exactly was economy screwed up? Just for you to know, i live in Germany, and was in first grade when East Germany collapsed. When the new economy bubble blossomed, i was in school and starting to study. When the financial crisis came, i was just two years into a job. There always has and will be high and low times in economy. I saw three currencies come and go and two states with a completely different economic order. So please spare your comment and do some research before writing on. So please enlighten us why "screwed up" economics have something to do with bad products from the car industry?
If Millenials dont care about cars then what about gen X's, Me for example? I love cars! Well, the more older ones and don't get me wrong I like the newer ones too but its just too much technology over the drivers experience. Luxury cars was more about how it was built back in 90's for example. Now its... Well, how much advanced technology it have. Modren luxary cars lost charm over the years...
RtistiqSkubie look at all the 90s SUV’s they all have the same body proportions and boxy look. Look at the economy cars of the 70’s they all look the same. Unless it’s a performance vehicle, or a nameplate that has a long history, there’s really not that much of a deviation from other cars in its segment. It’s always been like that. The only ones we remember are the ones that stood out. Not to mention that manufacturers love to have a common design language across the brand.
Yes, and these are annoying as f... like they made the whole interior and then at once: Oh, right, we still have a screen... erm, OH, LET US PUT IT RIGHT UP HERE. It looks idiotic, not thought through, it destroys a beautiful interior in my opinion.
1:24 On the contrary, I like how on older cars, you heard the indicator very clearly. On a newer car I drive today, the indicator sound is so quite, it's easy to forget it's on. I also like that the engine start sound was pronounced, unlike most cars today
I'm currently restoring my dad's old car, which recently he gave me as my first car. It's an old 1980 Fiat 147 that has been with us since about two years after I was born. It's a lovely little car. Even if I can buy a brand new one, that Fiat is a car that I don't want to let go anytime soon. And it has it wind wings! lol I may have a bias towards old cars, but I just can't find modern cars as exciting as old cars.
Lifespan!!! I am 30 years old got my deivers license in 2003. My first car a. 1985 vw jetta i bought off of my father. I still have it. Since then i have had a few other vehicles. The vw is not my only vehicles but none of them will die after my jetta. They will all die before it does. At the moment the odometer is a hair over 800,000 miles ( i live in the usa im not quite sure what that would be converted into kilometers for my neighbors over the Atlantic) any way over 800,000 miles over the years just basic maintenance repairs and still running strong at this rate i do see it easily living to see 1 million miles. I highly doubt with all of this electronic bullcrap in todays vehicles around the globe any of them will last that long.
wanted to do the same (keeping it until i die) with my bmw e36 (my first car)but after i had it for 5 years i crashed it and now the frame is bend and its rotting since half a year on a property thats going to be sold soon,so i have to get rid of it :(
Totally agree with the true exhaust note. Why would I need fake noise in my speakers? What were they thinking? Forget the glowing neon, that's the most "ricest" thing ever.
vdochev I was bothered when I heard Harley tinkered with their exhausts to produce a distinctive sound, as I think an exhaust's primary job should be to get the gas out as efficient as possible. Imagine my horror when I realized that manufacturers were actually using the radio to create exhaust noise. Surely people have gone mad.
Sealed-beam headlights. Universal, cheap and easy to replace. $10 was the going rate in the '90s - not for a bulb, a whole headlight, no toenail lenses ever, and you didn't need to dismantle the whole front of the car to swap it!
jsquared1013 Okay, but imagine if they had kept a standard size for all new cars. With modern lighting they would be bright but also produced in such large numbers that the price would be kept down.
Chevrolet PU was the easiest, with your fingers pull two pins the whole assembly would come out, then you twist the bulb free and install new one no tools,2008 they changed it not at all easy backwards they went
I'll drop in a few here. -Diversity, especially of engines. It used to be, there were a great variety of engines for a great variety of purposes. And within each type of engine, there were infinite variations. GMC's giant V6 engines (they used 351ci/5.8L and possibly larger in light trucks, 478ci/7.8L in medium trucks), the 215ci Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac (later Rover) V8, and the V12 BMWs of the 1980s and 1990s are infinitely more interesting to me than any number of 1.6L and 2.0L turbo fours. -Visually-appealing body styles like coupes and convertibles. And station wagons. Ugly chopped-off hatchbacks serve a practical purpose in Europe and Japan where space is at a premium, but to condemn the wide-open expanses of the US, Canada, and Australia to the same automotive fate is just cruel. -Cable-actuated throttle. -Engines you can see. I was at a car show recently where someone had a (most likely stock) Mercedes-Benz... CL600, I think it was? They had the hood up, but I don't know why they bothered; I just saw a vast expanse of stupid plastic. Apparently, there was a twin-turbo V12 hiding in there somewhere, but I never saw it. -Thin, simple steering wheels. First came the airbags to make the centers fat, then came the buttons, then the rims bulked up. Annoyingly, U.S. regulations forbid replacing an airbag-equipped steering wheel with an airbag-less racing wheel, not that everyone cares. -Unique car culture in different places. When I see someone who isn't Japanese call mountain pass racing "touge", it makes me want to scream. Unique car cultures do still survive but if you read too many car-culture blogs it starts to look like everywhere is getting overwritten by some kind of heavily Japan-based new world order of car culture. Similarly, seeing a stanced S15 referred to as "USDM-inspired" just hurts.
Modern cars usally have smaller windows than old cars so they are more difficult to see out of. Today they make fragile cars you can´t work on yourself due to electronics, they don´t last and cost a fortune to get fixed. In the past they made solid cars that lasted a long time and was easy to work on yourself. And nothing removes your attention from the traffic more than having a computer screen in your car which you have to look at to operate. The old style knobs and levers you could operate without looking at them so you kept focus on the traffic. I stay with old cars for as long as possible.
That is exactly why I ignore the car salesperson bragging about all the latest "hands-free" stuff and look for the 10-12 cheapest cars in the lot. Those tend to have more switches and buttons so I don't have to pull over, turn on my hazard lights and spend 30 seconds searching for one measly function hidden in the touch screen menu.
Absolutely. Was shopping for a new car for a few years and was appalled by the much lower visibility due to small windows and huge pillars. Of course a reversing camera is standard, you can't see out of the rear window at all! Blindspots the size of your ex wife's arguments. The bumper on my old car has taken knocks that would have left craters in a modern car. The paint is thinner, door panels are thinner, glass is thinner unless you buy something expensive. And turning circle! Don't get me started on how a modern hatchback has a much larger circle than a thirty year old midsize sedan.
The poor visibility of a lot of new cars is easily the #1 thing I have against them. I can deal with electronics, but the bad visibility is just annoying. It is why they need all of these radar assistance systems and backup cameras in cars these days, with the high waistlines and small windows you hardly have any idea of what is around you without them.
My '99 3000GT has been towed about 5 times due to electric problems. My '79 Camaro treated me right in every way whenever I got new parts. It was a fantastic performer and was nimble, also.
I have 2 Nissans, 1 is a 2005 Altima 3.5, is nice, has a classic 5 speed automatic gearbox; the 2nd is a 2012 Maxima, I love it! power is enough (at least for me 290 hp/261 lb-ft), easy, reliable cheap ('till now), good ilumination by nigth (specially in the Max). The stereo is easy and comfortable because every knob is not too sensitive by touch, never distract my sigth from the road, good braking, safe and elegant.
Worth 45 points if you run over cyclists, 60 points if you run over police officers, 40 points every women pedestrians you hit, 10 for every male peds, 70 points if you run over kids under 12, 100 points if you hit elderly pedestrians over 75 years old. Bonus 300 points for every hipster millennials you hit, and 500 points if you hit a pop star . The hell with your radar guided system, the hell with peds and other people, just ignore them and run them over.
The cars featured there would do that as a bare minimum its not uncommon for them to do double that mileage, you can still see them being used as Taxis in some of the poorer regions in the mediterarian they are tough cars to kill just like Corollas.
Not gone yet, but definitely on the way out. It seems like for every one of us who prefers a good old handbrake, there are a dozen car buyers who only care about having more cupholders, storage or USB ports in the center console, so out goes the handbrake to make more room. :(
As an engineer: The old reliable cars are an statistical oddity, today's cars are more reliable in general. But you will only remember the ones that are still here and you don't see the ones that will keep working later until much later.
Ch1Frequency I am engineer too....mechanical engineer ....I can c the dif. in reliability obviously.....sorry but u cant even compare but u r right in some aspects. Not all cars lasted I will give examples of some cars that still relatively expensive here in Baghdad : a 1990 300SE mercedes benz costs between 7000-15000$ A 1991-1995 5th series BMW costs between 5000-11000$
Even the old ones which lasted a long time, like Mercedes, Volvos, etc., still tended to have lots of other issues, it's just that the main components were really sturdy.
While an ECU can seriously optimize the engine efficiency and performance by itself, it comes at the cost of repair; hence the Right to Repair Movement
mod-ibility too. it's easier to mod old cars than new cars as we would be afraid to break some stupid electronic parts that may stop the whole car from starting
Yea..... old cars are really fun to mod because old sports cars we're cheap and you can buy like a suitable wing, carbon fibre parts, bodykits and really useful engine upgrades, also the amount of mod-ibility of a car can also describe on what the owner did to make his car to a dream car Now,Modern sports cars/supercars are just annoyingly expensive(Way more expensive than a house/mansion) And it's either you can't customize it or you're scared to customize it because it has too much electronics,it has a hybrid electric motor, also it's because there's also nothing to mod anymore because most sports cars are already carbon-fibered with a bit of plastic/fiberglass and their engines are already producing lots of HP,the saddest thing of all is that you can't customize it to fit your style or describing yourself.
Some people mod cars not because they want/need to have the fastest car on the block but rather just because they enjoy being able to make their car unique and feeling the satisfaction of making something more capable on the road. If this wasn't true then we wouldn't see people who do performance mods on cars like the Ford Festiva and Volvo 240
Free space in the engine bay. Enough space for a turbo, or enough space to pull out your alternator. Have you ever checked out the engine bay of a modern car? You have to disassemble the entire damn car to get to your battery!
ΑΡΗΣ ΚΟΡΝΑΡΑΚΗΣ There are some exceptions. And perhaps the battery wasn't the best example. But how long would it take YOU to get the alternator or the starter motor off? 2 days?

Thorbjørn Madsen at least they didnt blind you. I always get blinded by fucking Toyota LED taillights. And modern cars may be safe, untill one of the electronic systems die.
Nine's And AK's Gaming Channel Whatever you say petrol-head! Also you don't even care if your mother died in a car crash, because i bet that she drive an old piece of shit. I do like old cars, but i wouldn't drive in one. I rather drive a modern front wheel drive car which is a Skoda Octavia.
+Thorbjørn Madsen Try to stay on topic. Modern cars are obviously safer, no one is trying to argue that. We're talking specifically about headlights which on modern cars might be better for the driver but everyone else coming towards them gets dazzled. It might only be to a minor degree but it's still less safe than the old incandescent headlights.
I drive an e30 BMW, and I have to say that everything about it is better than a new or modern car aside from the constant attention it needs and the worry-inducing strange noises and rattles that it makes. Also the straight six cold starts are glorious.
Plus today's cars are all look same even without different characteristics do existed. Sick of hearing "aggressive look" not everyone want the look of certain race car wannabe design that is suppose to be coolest one.
In my opinion modern cars have too many electronic systems which cannot be disabled. I'm aware of the fact they are there for our safety, but those things are really spoiling driving experience. I remember when my grandfather used to have an Alfa Romeo 155 and (as a child) just sitting in the passenger seat felt so much better than actually driving some of today cars :'(
I miss styling and size. The cars of the 60s and 70s were beautiful. Interiors were incredibly lavish with button-tufted pillow-topped seats in crushed velour or leather, door panels were thickly and softly padded with full-length armrests and ornate door pulls. Roofs were padded and covered in patterned vinyl. And many cars were decent sized -about 18-19 feet long. And often almost 7 feet wide. Almost all modern cars are dinky little things, and they look like hell.
The scent of authenticity and craftsmanship... My father restored a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500, the smell of all the hard work and pride put into the car made me feel at home. Nowadays new cars smell like nothing more than a hotel suite....
Night_crawler NC Of course, there are some real improvements like the Bluetooth and the security for example, but there are also a lot of other stuff that is more redundant and just complicate the whole thing.
I could probably scroll through every comment here & like it. Damn this video is the plain TRUTH. Every point made VALID. I like my macbook pro just fine, but when I'm driving I prefer to drive a CAR. Not a damn iPhone with 4 wheels. If you need park assist or blind spot detection, I suggest you never drive ever period. Keep the road safe for the rest of us who have functional brains!
My dad's XC90 is 13 years old same as my age with 100,000 miles. Bought it new and it's still going strong. But the volvo mechanics are absolute shit and kinda fucked up the engine mount.
That's like an average low price finnish car based on mileage. 😀 Hard to find anything 3.0 i6 under 4000€ that didn't have that kinda mileage or serious problems. Older is better because they are less complex to repair.
4.0l e34 334k, still daily driven. no rebuild iirc. also have a e28 I bought for $300, it has 219k. I will buy any BMW that's a good deal, but I kinda draw the line at the e38/e39 (which i have several) i just can't take the leap of faith in the electronics... specially early idrive. :)
New cars look booring at least for me. Classic cars all had their own unique design that makes them recognisable. I will be a classic car collector in the future 😊
Serbia Drift Indeed. The think modern cars are beautiful, but it's not. All modern cars are very boring to look at, but you have to know why. Sharp corners and lines with very round shapes do it looks boring and ugly.
Safety on newer cars is very much improved, but there is something about old cars that just draws me in. I'm currently learning to drive (ish) and stepping into the old '99 Ibiza is so different from any new car. You get 3 pedals, a stick, and two gauges. Nothing is done for you except ABS. It's much more raw and immersive than having the car do everything for you. Add low maintenance costs and a handbrake that isn't limited to pushing a button. This and the Honda Concerto that my mom had are really, really enjoyable to drive.
I can't say i miss some of those since i'm not even a driver for a moments, and wasn't alive when most of the cars shown in the video, but what i can say straight: What i absolutely hate and despice is the screens in car's dashboards. Cars these days will outdate in a few years, unlike any other car 20-30+ years before.
I've always called them vent windows. And they were mostly phased out of cars in the early 80s. But the Ford F-series trucks and E-Series vans had them up till 1996 (1997 for the F-250 and F-350) and 1991 respectively.
For me it's the engine noise, you didn't need a sports exhaust to make it sound good. Also you can feel the road as you drive, I can't stand the way modern cars feel so isolated. No modern car is half as fun as my 1972 triumph spitfire.
For me, the newest car I will buy will be a 2002 MY. After that, and I won't touch it. I prefer to use 80s and 90s cars as daily drivers, and 60s/70s are my weekend cruisers. You could make a whole series about why older cars are better than modern garbage.
1. Design. 2. Character. 3. Much easier to maintain them yourself. 4. Driving feel. 5. Colors (older cars came in a wide variety of different colors, today everything is the same monochromatic color scheme of just black, white, grey, and silver. I think over 90% of new cars fall into one of those 4 colors, BORING. 6. Uniqueness. Cars of today all sort of just blend together and look the same, (look at #1 and #5 on this list). Classic cars were much easier to distinguish, and each had their own differences, even if they were in the same segment and from the same manufacturer. 7. Better center console and controls. Cars of today make something as simple as trying to tune the radio into a bothersome chore, what was wrong with having two knobs, one for volume and one for tuning (along with other knobs to tune various radio settings such as bass, treble, etc, if applicable). MarwariHiddles5212 have fun getting burned by your airbags, having them stolen when you bring it in for repairs, not being able to see if they go off unexpectedly, breaking all of your fingers even if it functions as expected, having it go off because an animal ran across your hood while you were parked, and having an ugly ass steering wheel.
I agree with the price part as inflation (with exceptions) can make the value of car more expensive back than the current model/current successor (if original model discontinued). When people say it used to be cheaper back then I usually hit back with inflation. Although incomes have also dropped (even faster) when adjusted for inflation. So while cars are technically cheaper, they’re also more unaffordable.
This is perhaps even the biggest issue about these stupid infotainment systems. I'll just stick to my plan of buying an 80s/90s car and driving it for life lol
Well since cars don't rust in 3-5 years like they did in the 80's, manufacturers have to build in new ways to make cars obsolete, and there you have it! the electronics!
Modern cars have way so many sensors, and are very expensive. Automakers think that they are making our life simple and easy but we know how expensive nowadays these cars are, its absurd.
Their intention is that you get your car "serviced" at the dealer. And computerized gizmos is their perfect tool to make you do that. Just follow the money and you'll see how biased everyone is.

The absence of planned obsolescence and plastic parts.
@@ahritomic5185 It feels like you think carbon fiber is plastic. It isn't. Plastic is plastic. Carbon fiber is an incredible invention

Great video unfortunately I'm a stroke and cardiac arrest survivor and no longer drive anymore which I miss
Well that sucks...
The stereo is easy and comfortable because every knob is not too sensitive by touch, never distract my sigth from the road, good braking, safe and elegant.
teslas radar guided system is so annoying, just the other day i tried to run over a pair of cyclists but it wouldnt let me
boogjerom lmao
boogjerom LOL
why run over a pair of cyclist, run over a pair of policemen would be fun. just run them over, by the way
Worth 45 points if you run over cyclists, 60 points if you run over police officers, 40 points every women pedestrians you hit, 10 for every male peds, 70 points if you run over kids under 12, 100 points if you hit elderly pedestrians over 75 years old. Bonus 300 points for every hipster millennials you hit, and 500 points if you hit a pop star . The hell with your radar guided system, the hell with peds and other people, just ignore them and run them over.
Erwin Schrödinger what? It's a good car... what's your problem?
Keep up the great work guys! I'm enjoying every single video you make :)
I miss the simplicity and solid build of the old classics. Not the commercial junk nowadays.
4:22 "exceed 250k miles WITH proper maintenance"
*laughs in corolla*
The cars featured there would do that as a bare minimum its not uncommon for them to do double that mileage, you can still see them being used as Taxis in some of the poorer regions in the mediterarian they are tough cars to kill just like Corollas.

I miss the damn *manual handbrake!!!!*
Armando Forno that's not exactly gone my dude. I drive a 2017 impreza and despite all the tech, it still has a manual handbrake
Not gone yet, but definitely on the way out. It seems like for every one of us who prefers a good old handbrake, there are a dozen car buyers who only care about having more cupholders, storage or USB ports in the center console, so out goes the handbrake to make more room. :(
Hate those stupid buttons! In order to acheive manhood, you *must* pull a proper handbrake!
Even the newer cars in my country have manual handbrakes though.
Yes, not all new cars have electric handbrakes, but this trend is sadly growing 😑
1:04 oooh that ae86!!!
Can’t beat old seats, the classic vintage leather in some old cars, Mostly hand made. Beautiful.
You forgot glass headlights
OMG YES! f--- yellow pos
Circular or rectangular glass headlights*
I was worried about my plastic headlights getting foggy over the years, but my 2004 Honda still has perfectly clear headlights! Don’t ask me how ;)
They always look like they are brand new
louis smeets how?
We want cars back.. I am afraid of the future
Most of all rotaries
ivcars003 me too
ivcars003 I just want to keep my petrol cars
Yeah in the future it looks like that we will be chauffeured by a robot
ivcars003 Thats what I want....but we cant really escape the future. There will be no gasoline in the future.
As an engineer: The old reliable cars are an statistical oddity, today's cars are more reliable in general. But you will only remember the ones that are still here and you don't see the ones that will keep working later until much later.
Ch1Frequency
I am engineer too....mechanical engineer ....I can c the dif. in reliability obviously.....sorry but u cant even compare but u r right in some aspects. Not all cars lasted
I will give examples of some cars that still relatively expensive here in Baghdad : a 1990 300SE mercedes benz costs between 7000-15000$
A 1991-1995 5th series BMW costs between 5000-11000$
Even the old ones which lasted a long time, like Mercedes, Volvos, etc., still tended to have lots of other issues, it's just that the main components were really sturdy.
Yeah, but nowadays you have to go to the garage.just because a sensor is not working anymore..That you didnt have in old cars.
The reason you see reliable old cars is because they're the only ones left.
clutchthepearls
No shit sherlock? Ofc we wont see many scraped old cars around.
I miss how simple an engine was and how you could modify it in your garage
While an ECU can seriously optimize the engine efficiency and performance by itself, it comes at the cost of repair; hence the Right to Repair Movement
mod-ibility too. it's easier to mod old cars than new cars as we would be afraid to break some stupid electronic parts that may stop the whole car from starting
While I agree, I also don't think their's as much of a need to mod modern cars.
Well ... while an old 1.6 honda could have 300 hp , now a big 2.2 engine only produce 100 hp + aren't reliable in 5 years
Yea..... old cars are really fun to mod because old sports cars we're cheap and you can buy like a suitable wing, carbon fibre parts, bodykits and really useful engine upgrades, also the amount of mod-ibility of a car can also describe on what the owner did to make his car to a dream car
Now,Modern sports cars/supercars are just annoyingly expensive(Way more expensive than a house/mansion) And it's either you can't customize it or you're scared to customize it because it has too much electronics,it has a hybrid electric motor, also it's because there's also nothing to mod anymore because most sports cars are already carbon-fibered with a bit of plastic/fiberglass and their engines are already producing lots of HP,the saddest thing of all is that you can't customize it to fit your style or describing yourself.
A VQ37VHR is a highly computerized engine but, it's very easily mod-ible and it has a sweet intake note and exhaust note.
Free space in the engine bay. Enough space for a turbo, or enough space to pull out your alternator.
Have you ever checked out the engine bay of a modern car? You have to disassemble the entire damn car to get to your battery!
ast5515 in my BMW you have to lift up the trunk floor to get in the battery
Thats no accident. Its so the dealers can rape your wallet for even minor repair work.
ΑΡΗΣ ΚΟΡΝΑΡΑΚΗΣ There are some exceptions. And perhaps the battery wasn't the best example. But how long would it take YOU to get the alternator or the starter motor off? 2 days?
Are you referring to a hybrid or an electric car?
No ,he's referring to modern petrol cars , citroen , kia , audi etc ...
The bit about modern headlights raping your eyes is spot on. Nissan Quashqis are particularly bad imo.
विष्णु का दायां हाथ Who cares, in my fucking opinion modern are better and safer.
Nigel Mansell What six lights are you fucking talking about. Remember the 1960s Chevrolet Impala had six taillights:
image.superchevy.com/f/58814349+w640+h426+q80+re0+cr1+ar0+st0/1964-chevrolet-impala-ss-rear-view.jpg
I got so lazy that I usually hit cruise control when driving in the city.
Fil Cona *red light*
"Eh."
Poor you lazy.
I use it while driving along the long embankments because otherwise I can't help but start speeding or feeling miserable, lol.
Plus today's cars are all look same even without different characteristics do existed. Sick of hearing "aggressive look" not everyone want the look of certain race car wannabe design that is suppose to be coolest one.
Its why i hate new generation fords, they all look the same
agreed.
One example would be the Subaru BRZ and Scion FRS.
One example would be the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FRS
BMoney8600 yeah but they are race cars so they are supposed to look like race cars

One really small thing I loved were the old way to put down windows with the crank type thing
I miss large engine displacements and N/A engines...
I miss big N/A engines.
That's were the natural sound came from. Displacement. And we all know, there's no replacement for displacement.
(X) Doubt
Henry M How would forced induction be the replacement for displacement when you can turbocharge a massive engine and get ungodly horsepower?
Capri Driver i have a big v8 4.0 N/A aspirated i love it
Boost is good, displacement is better, having both is the best.

Absolutely not
Rafox66 Why if you fall into the ocean somehow you can escape.

My dad's XC90 is 13 years old same as my age with 100,000 miles. Bought it new and it's still going strong. But the volvo mechanics are absolute shit and kinda fucked up the engine mount.
He did say cars now..not 17 years old.
My family owns a BMW e30 with 226 thousand miles and it still has its original engine
I'm not surprised a bit. Those were VERY solidly made cars. I still like the styling, it never looks old, especially in black or red.
That's like an average low price finnish car based on mileage. 😀
Hard to find anything 3.0 i6 under 4000€ that didn't have that kinda mileage or serious problems.
That’s nothing special! 226k isn’t really Much expecially for a 6 Zylinder bmw Engine!
New cars look booring at least for me. Classic cars all had their own unique design that makes them recognisable. I will be a classic car collector in the future 😊
I can agree, I find cars like the Datsun 100a (1st Gen) and Skyline (90's models) interesting just because of how they look
ApocalypseBarking or because you're a greasy nerd whos played my summer car and watched Fast & Furious
70's Datsun look wicked. C10, 100A, 240Z
Serbia Drift Indeed. The think modern cars are beautiful, but it's not. All modern cars are very boring to look at, but you have to know why. Sharp corners and lines with very round shapes do it looks boring and ugly.
U pravo si.
I can't say i miss some of those since i'm not even a driver for a moments, and wasn't alive when most of the cars shown in the video, but what i can say straight:
What i absolutely hate and despice is the screens in car's dashboards. Cars these days will outdate in a few years, unlike any other car 20-30+ years before.
"wind wings" lol wtf.
They're called quarter lights.
toonmag50 And I thought they were there for the cigarette enthusiast. Right by your hand, pulls the smoke right out.
I've always called them vent windows. And they were mostly phased out of cars in the early 80s. But the Ford F-series trucks and E-Series vans had them up till 1996 (1997 for the F-250 and F-350) and 1991 respectively.
@@kaneshuppert636 amusingly partly correct for the time period they were used.

my 88 W124 is about to have her 30th birthday this August, and still going strong!
For me it's the engine noise, you didn't need a sports exhaust to make it sound good. Also you can feel the road as you drive, I can't stand the way modern cars feel so isolated. No modern car is half as fun as my 1972 triumph spitfire.

WestSide1207 well can you please state enough reason why older cars and better besides the ones in the video
1. Design.
2. Character.
I can go on and on, but don't have time to make a full list and go into detail, I could turn it into an essay if I had the time and interest to do so.
I prefer no radio and no airbags
@Razor have fun dying in a car with no airbags.
Unique colors
1989 VW Golf this needs to be higher
I agree with the price part as inflation (with exceptions) can make the value of car more expensive back than the current model/current successor (if original model discontinued). When people say it used to be cheaper back then I usually hit back with inflation. Although incomes have also dropped (even faster) when adjusted for inflation. So while cars are technically cheaper, they’re also more unaffordable.
Not being full of technology that will be obsolete in 3-5 years
This is perhaps even the biggest issue about these stupid infotainment systems.
I'll just stick to my plan of buying an 80s/90s car and driving it for life lol
HazewinDog I bought my 2015 Mazda 6 with the most basic head unit for this very reason. The only modern features it has is an aux jack and USB jack.
Well since cars don't rust in 3-5 years like they did in the 80's, manufacturers have to build in new ways to make cars obsolete, and there you have it! the electronics!
What is even the point of all the screens and shit? Get a phone mount, boom there's your music and navigation.
KentB27 same bought a basic golf love it
Modern cars have way so many sensors, and are very expensive. Automakers think that they are making our life simple and easy but we know how expensive nowadays these cars are, its absurd.
Their intention is that you get your car "serviced" at the dealer. And computerized gizmos is their perfect tool to make you do that. Just follow the money and you'll see how biased everyone is.
you can also thank government laws for that shit
old cars are the best cars
The point about old cars having candles for headlights is quite funny cause here in serbia the bulbs in headlights are litterally called candles
