A month ago I drove 1400 miles under 24 hours in Niva. Third of that over forrest trails and particularly crappy dirt road. The problem with Niva is it can't drive over around 90 mph ever but you can comfortably cruise at 60 mph in dirt there more respectable part-time off-roaders can't at half as fast.

The Ambassador was based on the Morris Oxford series III model, first made ... It is also still in use as a taxi in some Indian cities." That car must be one of the longest produced models, however limited basically to be sold in India.
Actually the handle used to lift the front helmet was the same during all the years! And You could change a door to a newer version without much problems, if needed. And the engine was still a 4 cylinder boxer. So when Toyota claims to have made more cars named: Corolla, its a joke because they have been totally different. Only the name was the same.

Don't want to sound like a nerd but the white Porsche (0:07) is not a 993 - it looks like a 911 SC convertible...which is almost exactly 10 years older than a 993... nice vid otherwise :)
Hi from Argentina. You could've give an honorable mention to the Ford Falcon. The original model was sold in the U.S.A. from 1960 thru 1970, but in Australia, they kept developing the car that was sold until Ford closed his Australian factory in 2017. The last model was the Falcon FG X, although it had not one thing in common with the original from the 1960's other than the nameplate.
Bought a Niva in 82 in Canada it was stolen in 88. Missed that car(best hunting and fishing vehicle ever) . I was married with kids by then and couldn't replace it. In 97 I was single again and wanted a new fuel injected model but all the ones in my provience were pre-sold as they wern't being imported anymore. Currently look for a decent one to restore.
In Russia, there's a Lada 4x4 Urban, basically a newer model of 4x4. It's still a Niva though, just with a better engine, with air conditioner and other stuff. I don't know if they ship it to other countries, probably not.
Just watch videos of Lada Niva Offroad. I watched and attended countless times when Lada had to pull out of the mud many "stronger" jeeps, like Honda, Lan Rover, Mercedes, Suzuki, Jeep and many others.
QuaRy new lada cost 7600 $. this off-road car, villages and forests. to carry potatoes and spare parts. if it even breaks you can shove any detail with a tree branch. there is no need for electronics and design, it's a working horse. and even better this UAZ he will give odds to any gellentwagen
Most cars of this list are also really cultural masterpieces of the automotive industry. Some still being maked like the G-Wagen and the Lada Niva. That phenomenon that Peugeot made their cars by license requiring products also came with the Brazilian peugeot 505 and 504. And Lada still makes the Niva but now calls him the "Urban". Maybe you can make a video about the most famous (well know) models ever produced around the world? Keep up the good work! 😎🖒
I have a niva, in off-road it's like the best, his parts are very cheap but it's not confortable. For an everyday car I would not recommend it but for a side car for off-road or anything it's the best
they basically offer near infinite upgradeability you can take Lada 2115 Samara, rebuild it to RWD and pump up the stock engine from 79 to 250 HP and, as one popular russian DIY-blogger said, "UAZ is the DIYer's dream car"
Thanks! But... "Strong off-road performance" is a very soft statement for legendary Niva (aka Lada 4x4)😏 "Off-road kick-ass-ability of all the moderns SUV's at times lower price" is the right one 😁
Most Ford Falcons built in Australia share similarlarities from their late 1960's start till their final production in 2017. Same with the Holden Commodore, which shared similarities from its Monaro days through the Kingswood/Premier years. Old school technology simply improved over the years. A straight 6 or V8 engine. 4 or 5 speed box, eventually 6 speed. Rear wheel drive old fashion gearbox. Simple but it worked.
We had 3 Rivas. My parents owned 2 ( one after the other ), and I had one. Mechanically very reliable ( though the trim was crap and the windows on ours needed wedges in to hold them up or they dropped into the door body ), incredible heater ( presumably for Russian winters ), 42 amp alternator so never a problem with low battery, and worm-and-peg steering instead of rack and pinion meant you could bounce over kerbs and across a ploughed field diagonally and the wheel would never be snatched from your hands. Plus you could park them in even the shittiest of areas and no-one vandalised or stole them. Very thick steel too, 18 gauge instead of 22 or 24 gauge tinfoil like some of the other budget cars of the era ( hello Datsun ) so they didn't rust away in front of you. One of the ultimate "I don't give a crap what you think and have nothing to prove" cars...
Most of these on the list have been heavily altered and aren't really the same car. I would have chose. 1. Vw beetle, it was still produced in Mexico until recently. 2. The lada niva, relatively the same unaltered 3. The lada Riva, relatively the same 4. The trablant, it was produced from the 60s or 70s until the 90 unchanged. 5. The jeep cj still pretty much the same even today. 6. The Ford down Victoria relatively the same for about two decades the last one rolled of the line just recently. 7. The land rover defender even though I feel alot has changed on it.
VW Beetle, then the VW micro Bus or the Vanagan/Camper Van could be considered as in Brazil until 2016 that vehicle was still made unchanged except for the additions for safety like optional airbags as they sell to other South Amarican/Latin American countries that have less safety regulations and some bumpers that were not on the original models of the Vanagan/Camper Van.
who cares? we undestood, dont be so Politically correct thats typical sheep behavior programmed into you by government minions. Niva with a the old fiat 8v and a well setup supercharger are perfect.
It was discontinued in 2013, and they hadn't been using air-cooled engines since 2005... but close enough, I guess. It was still more or less the second generation model, even if the roof had been raised a few inches in the early 90s.
Pure Competizione Although it was a little longer ago than the Type 2, the Golf MK1 actually stopped production in South Africa in 2009 after being sold there as the Citi Golf since 1985.
As is common with developing nations that generally can't afford the latest and greatest, South Africa has actually had long runs on quite a few cars. Besides the Mk1 Golf (which also included the Caddy/Rabbit pickup, they inherited the tooling for it after the Pennsylvania plant failed), there was the Nissan Sunny B110/B120 (1971-2008), various versions of the Mazda Familia (the second generation model originally developed in the late 1960s, for example, was in production there until 1991), the Volkswagen Polo Mk4 (technically, production didn't start there until 2010, but it's a design that dates to 2001, and it's still being built there today), Volkswagen T3 (1980-2002), Fiat Strada (2005ish-Present, and a design that dates back another ten years), among many others.
Honestly, the most reliable one was the Russian Niva .. I had 4 of them different models ... but besides that they are freakishly tough and good desert vehicles as I used to live in Jordan .... but also their spare parts are very cheap and vary easy to be replaced at home ... and they last long too .... and most importantly they don't consume gasoline a lot.
Got this in my recommendation and I love cars. My mother drives a peugeot 307 -08 (1 owner car for 11 years) though but the unreliability thing is smth I have never understood. We haven't had a lot of issues, average 15000km a year, and the car is still going strong with regular maintaince and a lot of light bulbs.. yes, the thing about it eating light bulbs is true but other than that, we haven't had to change much, battery once, wheel bearing, one timing belt change (at 110000km, recommended 150000 from peugeot), and some small stuff but not expensive major repairs. Also no rust I can report. Out of interest I looked up average reliability index score and it's slightly above average by 4%. So can SOMEONE fill me in why peugeot is so hated for unreliability?
Crazy Dave - Main reason I see, time and time again, is ignorance. People love the hear say (gossip) and tend to make stupid generalizations. I've had/have a bunch of cars, beside having a good mechanical background I also do all the work on them. In fact I don't enter a workshop (as client) for almost 30 years now. ;-) Never had a 307, but for the sake of discussion Peugeot 106,107, 206, 306, are or have been around. Also Citroen C3, Picasso (2x) diesel & gas, Renault, Mercedes A class, Toyota Yaris D4D, etc...Some bought new out of the show room. Most others where 500€ cars, well beaten and used. Perfect examples of Winter beaters. My "record breakers" in what bulbs are concerned are the Toyota Yaris, bulbs front and back. Most already replaced with LED's, I couldn't stand it anymore. The H4 are the worst. :-( With a close second place for a Fiat Punto 2000, but only the left front bulb. Curiously both cars bought new! When I sold the 306 the buyer was staggered. After inspection under the car, etc. He turned to me and said "...but this car as no rust!!" Beware I live in a country where rust as it's own citizenship. ;-) Unfortunately on the used cars I always notice a huge amount of issues related with bad manipulation or attempts to fix/maintain without the minimum knowledge. In other words owner induced failures. :-( A very common problem on older "cheap" cars. Where owners try to do "things" to save money... many times with awful results. Exception to the 107, that's on 105K. All others are well above 200K, with a few touching or surpassing the 300K barrier. Only the Yaris (wife car) takes OEM parts (very expensive). All the rest get going with Ebay "specials", read the cheapest I can find. LOL 😂 So let them speak, it's good when I want to buy used... ;-) Cheers
Well the VW Käfer / Beetle is not being produced anymore. The last factory that still produced new ones had closed it's production a few years ago. I think it was in Mexico.
Jonathan Pitchford the Mustang name has been around since 1964, but it changed from an entry level sports car, to a beefy muscle car, a front wheel drive economy car, and a retro inspired entry level sports car.
Mustangs were never produced as a front wheel drive car. Ford tried in the 80's and received so much hate mail that they changed the name and out came the 1989 Ford Probe. I also wouldn't call it a "sports car" Sports car usually refers to a 2-seater. You can buy a new version with only 2 seats, but all Ford did was remove them to save weight, not quite the same. Lastly, in no way is a car from 1998 considered ancient.
Jeep Wrangler, production started in 1987 and can be traced back to the willys MB. The willys was produced from 1941 untill 1945. In 2015 came the Jeep Renagede along, this car is more or less a tribute to the Willys and the first model Wrangler. PS I work in a Jeep dealership. Its my job to know this xd
Axel Hoefkens what's funny is that the name Jeep came from the car name GP (GeeP) which then started the name and whole brand itself. That is if my research is correct
Not continuous though Morgan gave u amking it for many many years. But other than the S&S engine in place of a J.A.P. it is pretty much unchanged since first introduced.
Daniel28021991 No, they stopped the production in 1978 in Germany but continued the production until 2003 in Brazil. That car ended in 2010 was Volkswagen New Beetle.
Hi, I was at art college way back in the middle '60s and we had a quality, Bauhaus trained, German lecturer. He told us that the Land Rover, then Series model, and the Mini would still be an acceptable, even attractive, design of coachwork "in twenty years". He was out by a factor of two. Both were brilliant designs and quite beautiful.
I dunno - Tried driving with Suzuki Jimny and I was actually impressed by it. It wasnt fast but driving in city that didn't matter much, it doesn't roll too much in corners and the seats are ok. For a woman the car would be perfect - its small thus easy to maneuver and park, easy to drive(one of the easiest manual cars I have driven, this may not apply to US market though), high enough to not care about holes in the road and its nimble enough. The only thing it lacks was A/C.
Karl Napp, may be in Europe it would be viable, but in Russia it wouldn't. There were some UAZs with Iveco diesels, but they didn't sell. The thing is, that in every village across Russia you can buy spare parts dirt cheap and put them on your car. Introducing a new engine is very hard. It has to be done gradually, going from city cars, to more rural cars. That is just what history if Russian automakers tells us.
There would be new 122 hp 1.8 engine from Lada Vest in it starting next year with twice better mileage. Why do you want a diesel on it? The way its transmission works you always have enough torque even with standard engine.
Who the fuck would need a Diesel engine in a Lada? Gasoline is totally fine. What it needs is a reduced consumption because the Lada is pretty thirtsty, if you don't know how to handle it right to keep the consumption down a bit. Diesel would make the Lada a lot less universally usable.
Are new Ambassadors still produced? There's quite a few licensed cars in India, pretty sure you can find quite a few to add to this list (e.g. force, believe that's a Mercedes license or the Matador etc)
What about LandCruiser, the first official LandCruiser was manufactured in 1951 with the 20 series, then 30, the legendary 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 150, 200 series, all of them are by far are better than land rover and any other 4WD
it'll be more reliable than the land rover, and idk but for some reason you dont see Jeeps on african and desert expeditions. Most Siberian travellers prefer diesel yotas for transport. So yeh

Well you can still buy the modern version of it
Novak Svrkota they still make it
I wish the Volvo 240 was still being made.
- M.D.N - I agree so much!
The Hindustan Ambassador was an automobile manufactured by Hindustan Motors of India. It was in production from 1958 to 2014 with few improvements and changes over its production lifetime. The Ambassador was based on the Morris Oxford series III model, first made by Morris Motors Limited at Cowley, Oxford in the United Kingdom from 1956 to 1959.
Don't want to sound like a nerd but the white Porsche (0:07) is not a 993 - it looks like a 911 SC convertible...which is almost exactly 10 years older than a 993... nice vid otherwise :)
It's 930
My bad. Porsche nerds always correct me aha. You're completely right though!
It's a 930 but looks like a 964
Miguel Iniguez it's neither. Its just called a G series, the 930 was just the turbo and the 964 came a bit later on
Valentino YT The 930 was the Turbo
toyota should have kept making the original ae86
Its a very cool car :)
Τoyota should also have kept making the Supra... I don't like the new supra at all
I am a potato they should fuckin revive the supra mk4

A friend of mine bought it from an importer in The Netherlands, that's the only way to get one here apart from buying and shipping it yourself
UAZ 469b (now UAZ hunter classic), UAZ 452 (now UAZ 39xxx depending on chassis version)
I've missed those, too. True rugged Russian classics! :)

We're Germans and we attached a sticker onto my mother's which says Russimog. It's a small Unimog.
Lindsey Lariviere they are supposed to come back or something. Not sure because I found one article on it.

True. A car doesn't last this long unless its good! I will have a look into that!

Where is the land cruiser mate they been in Production since 1951 and they are still in Production
I really shouldn't have forgotten that lol Crazy long production period!
That's definitely not a 993 at the beginning of the video

the lada niva still looks good , all ways wanted one of them but I had a 1988 lada riva 1200 cc
We had one in Italy and it was indestructible!!
Tony hey I am italian too
My friends had lada 21-21 and it is BEAST it off roads very well and it is so comfortable
The Niva can still be bought in 2021!

Most of these on the list have been heavily altered and aren't really the same car. I would have chose.
1. Vw beetle, it was still produced in Mexico until recently.
2. The lada niva, relatively the same unaltered
3. The lada Riva, relatively the same

So I did. Thanks for suggesting!
Also the very similar UAZ-452 that has been produced since the early or mid 60's
In fact I don't enter a workshop (as client) for almost 30 years now. ;-)
Never had a 307, but for the sake of discussion Peugeot 106,107, 206, 306, are or have been around.
With a close second place for a Fiat Punto 2000, but only the left front bulb. Curiously both cars bought new!
When I sold the 306 the buyer was staggered. After inspection under the car, etc. He turned to me and said "...but this car as no rust!!" Beware I live in a country where rust as it's own citizenship. ;-)
Unfortunately on the used cars I always notice a huge amount of issues related with bad manipulation or attempts to fix/maintain without the minimum knowledge.
LOL 😂
So let them speak, it's good when I want to buy used... ;-)
Cheers

Missed the Mustang and the VW Beetle
2jz engine is a classic
Well the VW Käfer / Beetle is not being produced anymore. The last factory that still produced new ones had closed it's production a few years ago. I think it was in Mexico.
The Mustang is currently in it's 6th generation. Completely unrelated to the original cards mechanically which was the point of the video.
Its my job to know this xd
i own a 2015 jeep wrangler willys edition
Axel Hoefkens what's funny is that the name Jeep came from the car name GP (GeeP) which then started the name and whole brand itself. That is if my research is correct
I think the wrangler has gone through a few generations so can't be included.

0:06 That's not a 993. It's a G-Series model
Mine has one from the factory though. It was build in 2013.

Lada screwed up by not putting a diesel engine in the car.
The Peugeot diesel conversions from the 90's never lost their value.
As I said earlier they promise 122 hp 1.8 from Lada Vesta starting next year with roughly half the consumption.
thanks. I was actually referring to Karl Knapp's comment. LOL sorry, should have pointed that out.
My friend bought the new Lada Niva (2016 version) and he is very happy with it.

What about LandCruiser, the first official LandCruiser was manufactured in 1951 with the 20 series, then 30, the legendary 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 100, 150, 200 series, all of them are by far are better than land rover and any other 4WD

Better than any other 4WD but wrangler. because... open top.. :)
Matt Hall the Land Cruiser has had multiple generations. And is generally the worse option compared to its Jeep or Land Rover rivals.
it'll be more reliable than the land rover, and idk but for some reason you dont see Jeeps on african and desert expeditions. Most Siberian travellers prefer diesel yotas for transport. So yeh
