10 things we miss about old cars - keys, regular old keys 10 modern car technologies I can't live without - keyless entry let that sink in for a second

I just like the irony of him doing both videos and including complete opposites, in the video where he talked of things we miss about old cars, he said that these "card" keys, which granted you keyless access suck, now he says he loves them
Hondas are not bad, people who rice them are That's not what he meant.. That video was directed at car enthusiasts, saying "as car enthusiasts, this is something that we miss", it wasn't for him personally although the car enthusiast side of him most likely finds a key satisfying. You can like both under different circumstances and not be a hypocrite. Why is that so hard for you to understand?
I get keyless entry, but it has to be done in the correct reassuring way: with a little button on the door handle you have to push to lock or unlock and only works when the key is within half a meter of that door handle. In a lot of cars the doors just unlock by themselves when you walk past, and even worse were the first Renault and Mercedes with the card that unlocked themselves when you got close but then stayed unlocked when you walk away because you needed to push a button to lock them again. Just having a remote just feels safer to me, and when you have a car you love it's so cool that it blinks at you when you lock it while having a "last look" walking away. That blink tells me "It's okay, I already miss you too, I'm all locked up and safe, enjoy whatever you'll be doing now, we'll have more fun later and I'll welcome you with more blinks". Keyless cars don't do that, you just walk away, no response when you give a last glance, no buttons to push and no blinks when you get back in, feels like just an assembly of materials doing its job. The thing than opens the hatch when you swing your leg is really handy though. It's like "Can't you see my hands are full? Help me out here," and the car actually does it. Keyless start is bullshit though, you've already put everything away, your hands should both be free to drive and driving with stuff in your pockets is uncomfortable anyways, is it really that hard to get your key, put it in the ignition, and have a twist?
NO3- Most cars do have a physical key hidden in the electronic key, you can twist to start too but the hole is hidden inside an interior panel somewhere
I have a Dacia Logan 2004 (if dont know search it on google) i dont have AC and barely any heat, my car is the cheapest car in europe but it is the most reliable car ive ever owned!!
My brother is an amateur mechanic and he can install nearly all the things listed in the video very easily. You don't need to buy a car with these features, just install third party

I also personally don't care about auto headlights, but, I would appreciate it if _others_ had it (for the reasons mentioned in the video). Blind spot detection is really only necessary if your car has poor visibility and/or if the driver doesn't know how to properly set the mirrors.

1. I am more of a truck guy so really no opinion on pop up headlights. Though I do believe cool headlights are cooler than pop up headlights 2. I don't care what moves my steering rack as long as there is a shaft connecting my steering wheel to the rack. In some new cars they are using electric "pumps" that move the rack for you but the wheel isn't actually connected. Basically it just becomes a controller. Which sucks if you lose power or the motor fails because you going straight until you stop or something stops you. And without the shaft, you can't "feel" the road so you couldn't tell you were on ice until you start going sideways. Electric motors are better than hydraulic pumps because they don't have lag and don't have to release pressure which causes a lot of wear on the pump. You should never turn with the wheel full lock. 3. Roll down windows are the best.
I miss the "heated steering wheel" that is also very nice... but number one of my favs is blind spot detection, it is so much nicer. Keyless entry is hackable and can easly go wrong though
Richard Ren the s2000 is cheap has good gas milage and is a honda so its unbreakable. A used bmw would kill me to repair every single time. So i'd go with a honda since they are cheaper
Mine is also from 2005, i have heated seats and I agree I don't want to live without them, all other things just annoy me most of the time especially keyless entry (and I drive modern cars all the time...) Edit: new car, ok, so turns out Bluetooth and Auto headlights are quite nice, still didnt get keyless as i still hate that.
Heater is actually necessary in germany to get a car road legal because if windows fog up, you cant see. But ac is not necessary. And i dont need it as well.
I have a van, bigger than that suv, no camera, no parking sensors and no dents on the rear. Heated seats!.. Cold climates, OK. Give you that. Rubber, 👍 Steering buttons, 👍 Lights, avoid bad drivers to be identified.👎 and avoid. Adjust your mirrors property, all 3 of them. No blind spot.
Clavius Magnus You always have a blind spot, no matter how well you adjust the mirrors. Especially behind A pillar, you can't do anything about that one
Sir Wafel It depends on several things, vehicle, your seat position, how you adjust the mirrors. I won't say I doesn't happen at all, but proper adjustments do help. Most of all is how the driver faces his driving skills.
Thankfully a lot of this stuff can be retrofitted to older (better) cars for cheap. Heated seat inserts are inexpensive and simple to install. Reversing cameras are cheap and there are wireless ones that go to your phone so no need to route wires, and they mount as license plate surrounds. Auto headlight modules are cheap. If you want to go all-out you can even get aftermarket versions of those top-down 360 degree camera systems, but you need to drill into your side mirror housings and possibly bumper. Even keyless start buttons can be retrofitted, installs a lot like a remote starter. Blind spot monitoring kits exist and are cheap. Adaptive cruise control can't though, too intergrated with the car The Torque app can display remaining range pretty easily based on miles driven and how much the fuel pump is pushing.
You are so goddamn right. Although I find keyless entry pretty useless, is it so hard to push the buttons on the remote.. But push to start is kinda neat since you can have your keys in your pocket, and you will have hard time locking them in the car.
All that may be true. But think about the work involved in retrofitting all those things - even if everything goes alright, which rarely happens - usually you run into problems of one or another kind. Its often bad enough with mechanical stuff, thinking about retrofitting all those electrical gadgets is giving me the creeps... and if you pay a mechanic to install them you might as well buy a car that already has all those things from the factory. Not to mention that even if a mechanic installs those things, stuff can still go wrong... plastic clips on old cars are brittle, sometimes they are seperate parts, sometimes they are not and u need to replace f.e. a whole trim strip if something breaks - for my old bmw, some of those cost about 300 €.
Id personally never want keyless go in my car. It makes it 100 times easier to steal your car, and id just end up losing the key all the time since you dont have to think about it +its not always where you left it.
Things that i would say modern car should have: ABS, power steering, heating, air conditioning, automatic lights/DRL (i want those because you have to have lights on all the time in the winter period in my country), good seats and i think thats enough.. eh yeas tachometer
Well, there are a few mid90s/early2000s cars I want (won´t care which one I actually will get of them) and one of them only comes in automatic, but I prefer manual too.
well yea it's a volvo, of course its 10Years ahead of this Skoda :D (with some thinkering i could add all except maybe the blindspot to my Volvo 850 from 1994 aswell)
I know there's heated steering wheels but I don't know about cooled steering wheels. My car has a black steering wheel and boy does it get hot in the summer to touch!
Here are my top picks listed in importance, like if you agree: 1. Autonomous emergency braking 2. Rear cross traffic alert 3. Pedestrian detection 4. Parking sensors 5. Rear camera 6. Apple CarPlay 7. Adaptive cruise control 8. Heated and ventilated seats 9. Keyless access 10. All wheel drive( i know its not a feature but its a deciding factor in my book) Bonus features blind spot and lane keep assist
I'd never experienced heated seats until I hired a car in Canada. I gotta say that when it's -20 degrees outside heated seats and heated steering wheel are amazing! I'm more likely to need air conditioned seats when driving at home though.
i'm sure if it was sponsored they wouldn't take kindly to him calling the car ugly xD, they've probably been given the car for long term review and so what else are they going to use if they are making a video about new car features? it's not like anything is unique to the skoda.
I don't think you understand that it's illegal to create a sponsored/paid promotion and not disclose it. You people are always so quick to jump on the bandwagon and accuse everything of being sponsored just because it features a brand that you've already seemed to deem "unworthy". This video has a Hyundai.. SPONSORED! This video features a Skoda.. HE WAS PAID TO SAY IT! Because God forbid a company improves and actually has something worth complimenting. Skoda has a similar build quality to VW, Audi & Seat.. They're really not a million miles from each other. Just because a car isnt a quirky, old, rwd car with no assists aimed for enthusiasts, doesn't mean it has no merits. This comment section is riddled with elitists claiming that anyone who drives a car with a few luxuries is lazy. I'm sure Alex doesn't drive his E36 M3 every single day, and has a more modern car for daily use, this Skoda is probably a borrowed car that they chose to use because it met the criteria. Think a little more about the situation rather than saying that you think it's a sponsored video when it obviously isn't.
Things in my car I can't live without: Straight 6 engine Manual transmission No driving assists No annoying beeping No screen Simple interior That's the BMW E46. One of my favorite cars!
same with me man... in my car i only have that and my sweet sweet music :) (i have to adjust my side mirrors by hand) outside the car there is no adjustment from the interior :D
No... we are all good drivers and know what is essential! But most of all If I don't have stupid electric gizmo's on board it cant break down! It make life simpler and better! Do I need trip computer - no I fuel up to full and drive to 1/4 it is simple Do I need keyless - no and no one can copy my code and steal the car Do I need blind spot - no I watch the mirrors and know where and how many cars are around me and look over my shoulder when make manoeuvres. Do I need heating seats - no in a minutes my but is already warm by my own temperature And so on and so on! This is useless crap which at the end fail and cause nerves and money - but most of all and especially the driving aids as Jordan said in the first comment made you lazy and in a case of need you are now aware of the situation neither ready to react fast - no thanks, let me be weirs, I can live with that. You can throw your money for whatever shit you want!
+Bryce Yoder That doesnt mean he is broke. Video is titled ,,10 Modern Car Technologies I Can’t Live Without'' and they are usefull in some way but far from necesary
Keyless entry, push button start, auxiliary input, heated / vented seats (vented are key), and Bi-Xenon / led headlights are all features that are necessities when looking for a car. Leather as well.

For me, if you’re starting point is a regular analogue ish 2000’s car with just abs, ‘can’t live without’ would be cruise control, steering wheel controls, and the main thing, a good hike in power to keep you happy with your car, making sure you look forward to driving it 😉
my mom has a 2016 Passat, and I indeed can't live without heated seats, keyless entry, and I think the front end looks stunning, since the ACC radar is hidden really nicely
heated seats, reversing camera, trip computer.... that is not very new car features. To be honest I once owned BMW525 made in 1988 and it had trip computer already and heated seats + steering wheel... that car was made 30 years ago! I guess the new thing is that they can be found in cheap low end cars nowadays. What is actually new (kind of 3 years old) is 360 camera, self parking... and if we mentioning heated seats why not ventilated as well? In fact ventilation on the leather seats almost more important for me than heating, especially with mild climate like the one in UK. Radar cruise is nice thing and it doesn't need to look ugly either - check Lexus, it is just part of the badge actually looks better than standard badge. I agree keyless entry is nice and outside of Lexus (which introduced it in 2005) it is actually fairly new thing, it seems like a long time but in fact fully keyless systems are quite new thing - I had Audis, BMW and MB with "keyless" systems but they only opens the doors most of the times and you still need to stick the key somewhere before you can start the car. Anyways the list is just "common" nice features in new cars, not really "new features" and even then plenty of features which are really modern are not mentioned e.g. android/apple car play, self parking, talking about auto lights.. adaptive lights and auto dipping... etc ... etc.
I have a few ideas that u guys should add to the Car Throttle app, 1. Project Car community, one community for anything project car. 2. Detail community, a community for detailing tips, questions, and other detailing related stuff. 3. Wheel and Tire community, a community for people to ask what wheel specs would look better, what offset is best, tire size, and to maybe buy sell and trade wheels with other CTzens, and share wheel knowledge with the self claimed experts. Please help me get Alex's attention
Auto Lights are in EVERY Škoda from 1998 and later, because in Czech Republic it is needed to have your lights on 24/7 so Škoda makes them turn on to full power automaticly for a long time
I can live without everything except for air conditioning. Air conditioning is a must in the hottest part of California, where temperatures regularly reach 100 degrees.
I'm driving in London for a living,by far best gizmo my MB E220 has is brake pedal when you press it a bit harder witch works as parking brake if you're stationary but in drive ,that way you don't have to keep your feet on a pedal and to move of either depress the brake pedal or simply press accelerator(but there's a small bump when you do that so I'm avoiding that when I'm with customers). Another one my digital speedo reading in the middle of the dash cluster, far more comfortable than analog dial
I'd personally change two things on that list. First - I don't care about the reversing camera. The sensors are enough. Second - Blind spot monitoring is not a useful tech. It's just there because most people don't know how to adjust their mirrors properly. I adjusted mine correctly and so when I start to see the car through my side window the same car's still visible in my mirror. You don't need to see what's directly behind you in those mirrors. You don't need to see your car (any part of your car) in those mirror either. In its spot I'd add things like automatic windscreen wipers, climate control, head-up displays, electrochromatic mirror so you don't get blinded by assholes who are to cheap to get their headlights adjusted, great sounding speaker systems, automatic high beams, heated mirrors and satnav that's actually good and not completely useless shite like it was 8 years ago. Also sneaky ad for Skoda wasn't sneaky.

How many of us don't have any of these in our cars? ✋
my cars from 92 and i have cruise control that doesnt work but my ac and heat work
Me, but I have the tire threading thing.
My cars are from the year 1968, 1974, and 2005 so I’ve never experienced any of those
Those are the best cars my friend
Mine is also from 2005, i have heated seats and I agree I don't want to live without them, all other things just annoy me most of the time especially keyless entry (and I drive modern cars all the time...)
Edit: new car, ok, so turns out Bluetooth and Auto headlights are quite nice, still didnt get keyless as i still hate that.
My car is from 1949 and has factory seat heating but I only drive with sunny weather so I never use it.
I can't live without a manual transmission.
Why
Kaisuhina because I enjoy driving, not just sitting down and flexing my right foot.
But i have two left feet
Mr Dayum Fine. You should get a car with a true manual transmission. That would get old quick!
Jordan Prier eh? I have an 05 Civic Type R. That's manual
cooling seats though...
Wait 4:14 is that how you check your blind spot? daym bro
I love cooled seats. I actually have it on my car.good in the summer
@@kevinisenzo7945 Yep cooled seats are just as nice as heated.
I Have them in my Passat and they are Amazing
When your car has 0 of these features... :(
i made it 69 likes buddy :)
@@HEATHENS5074 ha ha bad luck bro
@@dietznutz1 f you lol
We can live without everything in a car except heater and aircon
you can live without AC easy too. Just live all your life without it and you'll adapt
Aren't the steering wheel and pedals etc technically inside ur car and u kinda need them
Heater is actually necessary in germany to get a car road legal because if windows fog up, you cant see. But ac is not necessary. And i dont need it as well.
Pretty much
Wow, you must be such a good driver.
Didnt you guys talk shit about keyless cars and buttons on car wheels in another video?
*shot fired* 😂
I have a van, bigger than that suv, no camera, no parking sensors and no dents on the rear.
Heated seats!.. Cold climates, OK. Give you that.
Rubber, 👍
Steering buttons, 👍
Lights, avoid bad drivers to be identified.👎 and avoid.
Clavius Magnus Yes of course, I just had to point that out since you said in the first comment it doesn't happen at all
Sir Wafel I don't feel a blind spot on my car...
Clavius Magnus and this is MR I never fall off the horse 😂
I have a 1990 jeep and have none of these features and I Love driving it more than any other vehicle
yep I can easily with without any of the items on this list. I also have no problem turning my head
really?! not even heated seats?
Same but I have a 1991 Honda Prelude
Power steering, air conditioning, heated seats, cruise and automatic lights. These are all i need and got in my 90 volvo 940
No power steering, air conditioning.

Adaptive cruise control can't though, too intergrated with the car
The Torque app can display remaining range pretty easily based on miles driven and how much the fuel pump is pushing.
You can install aftermarket cruise control kits. All you're missing there is a radar and an ECU to control maintaining the distance.
Things that i would say modern car should have:
ABS, power steering, heating, air conditioning, automatic lights/DRL (i want those because you have to have lights on all the time in the winter period in my country), good seats and i think thats enough.. eh yeas tachometer
I wish the damn touchscreen/connectivity stuff would be optional so I could just put my own radio in it and that´s it...
I never use my radio when im driving
I do use it when im waiting for something etc when im sitting with engine off
And of course Manual Transmission
+Anargya Atha Of course, that shold be standard
edit: oh yeah lets include aux
Well, there are a few mid90s/early2000s cars I want (won´t care which one I actually will get of them) and one of them only comes in automatic, but I prefer manual too.
The only modern car technology i cant live without is the passenger side Ejecting Seats... They're very useful...
My volvo v70 2007 has all these options...
well yea it's a volvo, of course its 10Years ahead of this Skoda :D
(with some thinkering i could add all except maybe the blindspot to my Volvo 850 from 1994 aswell)
My renault megane 2003 has all these too
Keyless start?
Kaisuhina ofc it has keyless go volvo made it since 2004 ...
My 2006 Rav4 has all these too
There should be a device in your car that warms or cools the shift knob because that shit can get hot as fuck in the summer.
How about the steering wheel?
Collins LFC they have that alreadt
Cooled steering wheel :)))
I know there's heated steering wheels but I don't know about cooled steering wheels. My car has a black steering wheel and boy does it get hot in the summer to touch!

1. Autonomous emergency braking
2. Rear cross traffic alert
3. Pedestrian detection
4. Parking sensors
5. Rear camera
6. Apple CarPlay
7. Adaptive cruise control
8. Heated and ventilated seats
9. Keyless access
10. All wheel drive( i know its not a feature but its a deciding factor in my book)
Bonus features blind spot and lane keep assist
I'd never experienced heated seats until I hired a car in Canada. I gotta say that when it's -20 degrees outside heated seats and heated steering wheel are amazing!
I'm more likely to need air conditioned seats when driving at home though.
i love car throttle but this seems like a sponsored video
i'm sure if it was sponsored they wouldn't take kindly to him calling the car ugly xD, they've probably been given the car for long term review and so what else are they going to use if they are making a video about new car features? it's not like anything is unique to the skoda.
IIRC, its Ethan's new car. He got rid of the Suzuki and bought this.
I though he bought a Karoq... But yeah, a Skoda SUV anyway.
Since every of those features are not exclusive to Skoda or VAG, no, it is not. I actually have all of them on my Renault.

These are all lazy person gadgets, as long as I have some heating in my car I'm happy
same with me man... in my car i only have that and my sweet sweet music :) (i have to adjust my side mirrors by hand) outside the car there is no adjustment from the interior :D
Count me in the group :)
Y'all are weird
No... we are all good drivers and know what is essential!
But most of all If I don't have stupid electric gizmo's on board it cant break down! It make life simpler and better!
Do I need trip computer - no I fuel up to full and drive to 1/4 it is simple
Do I need keyless - no and no one can copy my code and steal the car
Do I need blind spot - no I watch the mirrors and know where and how many cars are around me and look over my shoulder when make manoeuvres.
Do I need heating seats - no in a minutes my but is already warm by my own temperature
And so on and so on!

Heated seats are a necessity in Finland, especially wjere I live. The -30°C weather kills me in a car for some reason
I dont have any of these features in both my cars...love it when its old and simple

Marcus H did not know that. Mercedes invented the ventilated seats.
the tyres on the m3 look so sexy
Love fat tyres done right.
Keyless entry, push button start, auxiliary input, heated / vented seats (vented are key), and Bi-Xenon / led headlights are all features that are necessities when looking for a car. Leather as well.

-Electric powered steering
-lights that go on when you start the car, and go off when you turn the car off
-sensor for the rear windshield wiper
-fuel range
Wait... heated seats exist? And blind spot detection? And keyless startips? Man my mum's 2017 Corolla is getting old ay?
This entire video is basically an advert for that Skoda 😂
It's not really. It's Ethan's new car.
its a real good car for the price though feels very expensive has a lot of features looks decent enough

@@Khalidelbakkalielamm It definitely isn't, it's his bloody car
I don't even need power steering, makes you feel more connected to the road and the car.
IF the steering is also good
things i cant live without
1. Hydraulic steering
2. everything analog
3. key entry and start [remote and just key]
4. dials to adjust the back rest
5. Power windows
6. heated seats
7. acerage consumption gauge digital
I agree on the Bluetooth, steering wheel volume thingy, rear view camera (on big cars), keyless entry&start, and multi information display on dashboard

- Touchscreen
- Automatic lights (high-beam headlight)
- electronic handbrake

Modern cars are convenient, but they are also mostly plastic, and entirely boring...
Brodie Bennett True. Cars with plasticky interiors are uninspiring and characterless.
unless it's a chiron/mclaren/any other hypercar/supercar
In old cars pretty much everything is plastic. It all depends on class
Great car
Anyways the list is just "common" nice features in new cars, not really "new features" and even then plenty of features which are really modern are not mentioned e.g. android/apple car play, self parking, talking about auto lights.. adaptive lights and auto dipping... etc ... etc.
racecar dislikes this video

I have a few ideas that u guys should add to the Car Throttle app, 1. Project Car community, one community for anything project car. 2. Detail community, a community for detailing tips, questions, and other detailing related stuff. 3. Wheel and Tire community, a community for people to ask what wheel specs would look better, what offset is best, tire size, and to maybe buy sell and trade wheels with other CTzens, and share wheel knowledge with the self claimed experts. Please help me get Alex's attention
Auto Lights are in EVERY Škoda from 1998 and later, because in Czech Republic it is needed to have your lights on 24/7 so Škoda makes them turn on to full power automaticly for a long time
why do you love skodas so much XD greets from czech republic!

I can live without everything except for air conditioning.
Air conditioning is a must in the hottest part of California, where temperatures regularly reach 100 degrees.
100 degrees, thats boiling hot.... :P
He's talking about degrees Fahrenheit.. that's around 38 degrees Celsius.
I dont have air conditioning in my Fiat Panda...
evokki0075 puahahahahahahahahahahaha
