I think it worked really well for Jaguar , I live in London and I saw all the models ,the XF really evolved in time ,I personally love it.
definitely forgot the bmw e39 5 series. Facelift was ahead of its time. Legendary Angel Eyes and Celis tail lights.

BMW E39 was the biggest IMO. First bimmer with Angel Eyes, and the LED tail-lights together with the M package just makes it a completely new car.

Man, that's so true. For me it's especially true for the mk3 Focus. When it first came out I thought it looked ugly as fuck but when the facelifted version was released I didn't mind it as much.

Very true. It has a menacing face vs the facelifted calm luxury like front. It's like a thug got his act together and started wearing a suit. He looks classy now, but you know he's still a thug if you push him lol.
I actually prefer the pre face lift either way both are very nice looking cars.

The facelift is absolutely hideous. I'm still baffled how they managed to fuck it up this bad.
In my opinion one of the most underrated facelifts is the BMW E90 (to the LCI model).
Yes all around was changed like for example the tail lights were a bit Mercedes then changed it with classy red lights and front lights were updated by the reflector at the side of the lights

I personally like the E90 pre-facelift, it just looked so sporty and agressive, like a BMW should. It especially looked good as a 330i, with the chrome grille and ellipsoid wheels. The facelift just made the car look so complicated, and the ruined the hood, with all those silly creases.

I think one of the best facelifts ever was the 2nd generation of the Ford Focus. The Model that got introduced in 2008 looks sooooo much better than the older one. (Best noticable on the Focus ST)

i like both in their own way, but personally id take the pre-facelift ST. i actually think the mk2 focus STs (both facelifts) were some of the best looking cars ford have made in the past couple decades, along with the mk1 RS (just my opinion)

People complained that pre face lift is stripped out of a Ford Fusion, so the change (might take a while to get used to) is much welcomed.
In some angles, the newer version lookls somewhat sleeker, so I wouldn't say it's worse, it's just somewhat rounder and not that sharp. Biggest problem: the 2015 model was bang on, especially the Ford Shelby GT 350R

Mazda RX8. Not only was a good facelift, but it fixed quite a few issues with the engine. Most notably the oil starvation in the rotor housing (no more pre-mixing the fuel)

I'm not a huge fan of the mustang face lift. I think it kinda gets rid of the mean, muscle look.
I think the facelift is reminiscent of the 2005 V6 mustang. In my eyes, the tip of the hood extends too far downward, almost lending a beak-like appearance to the front of the car. Mustang could have done without a facelift. MX5.....the new MX5 is much better looking than the 2.5(NB).....at least the NAs looked cool and appropriate. The NBs were just ugly, like they simply took the NA body and rounded out the headlights and lengthened the tails but neglected to do anything to the rest of the body. I think the new MX5s look like mini F-Types.....if only MX5s had the balls of the F-Type.......

I used to not like the look of the new mustang but when I saw it in person at the Detroit Auto Show it looked stunning. The pictures do not do any justice towards the looks of the car
It is funny because I actually think exactly the contrary, I think that the new ones looks much more aggressive!
I don't want to say the facelifted E46 looks bad, but when i was shopping for my E46 the facelifted modell was out of the question. I'm glad they never upgraded the E46 M3 looks because the Pre Facelift looks so much better imo. It has something special, whereas the facelifted front looks a little too generic.

the e46 facelift while looking more modern, will never beat the timeless and aggressive design of of the prefacelift. there's a reason they never made the M3 in a facelift.

1999 SN-95 Mustang. My personal favorite facelift. Everything was sharpened and given an angular rather than rounded and softer look.

Toyota Camry XV40 - that facelifted grille is just ugly, and the rest of the car was still Xanax.
Fiat Multipla - removed the 'interesting'front styling and replaced it with blandness while remaining ugly everywhere else
Pretty much every Fiat Punto facelift i.e. Mk2 facelift, Punto Evo. The latest one is still uglier than the early Grande Punto.
Nissan Kumquat and X-Trail. Their jaws just dropped and are now scraping the ground.
GM full-size 1500 truck 2016. Replaces the "work-ready" look with too much bravado.
Vauxhall Calibra. That V-grille just didn't work, and the 2.0 Ecotec engines were problematic.
Saab 9-5, for when you want to name your car Dame Edna.
Nissan Latio, it's trying to be a Predator-Lexus only crappier and Xanax-ier.
Hyundai Coupe MK1 facelift looks like a terrible crash repair done while on drugs.
Citroen Xsara. Went from a handsome, if dull car to a fish-mouthed monstrosity from Chernobyl.
Mazda3. That gaping grin-esque grille is quite a mess.
Mazda5 same as above.
Mitsubishi 3000GT. The newer headlights are ugly with the paint.
Mitsubishi Lancer (2016). Out goes the stylish Evo-style grille, in goes Xanax overdose. Also, R.I.P Evo.
Daihatsu Sirion. Front end went from ugly to uglierest in 20 seconds.
B6 Passat. The move to B7 (it's just an updated B6) removed the stylish looks of the B6 and replaced it with the most vapid design of the last decade.
These are only a few of the worst facelifts ever.
the 2013+ Ford Fusion/Mondeo was a drastic improvement over the 2012 and older models.
just look at that mazda, just as happy as a shibe-dog, looking forward for a sunny day on the race track.

I have... had..gave it to my dad, a 2003 Passat VR5 and it was without a doubt, the worst car I have ever owned. Utter unreliable piece of shit. Complete opposite ot me 1995 Golf 3 back in the days. Now I drive a late 2005 C5 3.0 and it is much better build car. It is on a whole different level than the Passat.

Mechanically it is robust indeed, but the electronics are very bad. If you open the forums, that would be enough internet for a whole year. My father has a 2000 Golf 1.9 TDI and that thing is over 500 000 km and it is still running strong. The 1.9 TDI and 2.0 HDI are probably on the best diesels ever made.

Volvo S-40 change from phase 1 to phase 2, what a beautiful car it made, from the old H4 to clear optic H7 and newer bumper with color coded rub guards and damn it looks awesome compared to the old one

I'd say the 2015 Dodge Chargers were a perfect example of a facelift done right, taking the 2014 Charger and completely reimagining it with sleeker styling features and a much more aggressive look.

I don't think the mustang is supposed to be a family sedan or low end slow sports car but... to each their own I guess. Designers running out of ideas these days tbh. I miss the muscle car concept.

The Mazda 3 complete makeover from Gen 2 to Gen 3 is awesome. I have a Gen 3 Mazda 3.
I think the facelift given to the 1999 Subaru Impreza was the best IMO.
It got sharper bonnet lines with redesigned vents, new grill, bigger sharper looking crystal headlamps and a more aggressive looking front bumper and fog covers. It still looks fresh and modern today
How can you forget the lamborghini diablo, the current ford fiesta and focus, the E90, the clio 2 and the list goes on

Sneaky_Krait. You don’t know how happy I am to see someone else who agrees with me, and, I used the wrong words, the 2015 R8 is and will always be favourite car too!! That thing looked absolutely gorgeous, but when 2016 hit, and Audi announced that the new one came out, and that the new one would replace the current, I was absolutely heart-broken. In fact, before anyone knew a facelift was coming out, I was afraid what Audi would do to it, it already looked perfect, and I knew that they were either gonna fuck it up, or not bring any change to it, because any change to the design of it would’ve ruined it.
I’m so depressed, but happy as well, to know that someone thinks the same.
Sneaky_Krait. I’m 14 right now, and to let you know, I first saw such a beauty when I was 6, and I saw the Iron-Man movie, in 2008, which had the main character drive around in an R8. It was love at first sight.
I would rather have a used 2006 Audi R8 than a brand new 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus, no joke. The 2006-2015 R8 was sooo good. Too bad they don’t make it anymore.😩😪

The newest R8 is beautiful in its own way but the 2007 model is just so clean that it will be a classic. The 2013 facelift is also nice with Audi's new lighting system and dualclutch gearbox, but it misses something the 2007 model did have.
I also think of the facelift of the VW T5 or the Passat 3b, in my oppinion, the facelift of both looks nicer than the prefacelift.
My car is a great facelift example imo. A VW T5.1. The new bumper and headlights make it look and feel more like a car than a van, which is what I wanted when I bought it

I saw the thumbnail and was like "Hey, this was the car I was working on today, the hell?!".
Well, I would say it's a good quality car! Not the best I've seen, but, it wasn't any sort of bad. It looks presentable. The interiors are all "leather" (maybe, or something alike) and it has these wood panels on flat areas. The dash buttons also seem clean. I didn't like the door handles.

IMO the best facelift done was Mercedes W212 E-Class and the C-Class of that era as well. the pre-facelift cars look older than their previous generations. After the facelift the only outdated thing about Mercedes of that era is the interior. My uncle's 2004 E-Class looks more classy than the pre-facelift W212 generation cars

350z: 2005 and 2007. The changes were very subtle but they made a hell of a diffrence.
Volvo S/V/XC60 2014 face lift was subtle but really lifted the cars IMO.
The Porsches 996 and 997 facelits are brilliant

The Peugeot 306 facelift brought it in line with the 406 correct....but not the image you showed. It was the pre-facelift 406.
The facelift 406 (image you showed) was another radical facelift that really improved that car.
I liked the 99-00 Civic, 05-06 Rsx, and early 2000 nsx face lift
