Interesting review, not sure I agree with your comment at the end which says the model 3 is better because of the charging network, the charging network doesn’t make the car itself any better
Counting the charging infrastructure in a review is like saying a Chevy Malibu beats out the Corvette because the Malibu can run on 87 octane gas while the 'Vette needs harder-to-get premium.
The quality of the interior is superb. The grille on the i4 is covered in plastic, and there are a few aerodynamic alloys. It also has a few blue accents strewn over the vehicle. However, availability to a stable fast-charging network, or the lack thereof, is currently disappointing.
Don't like the driver's instrument binnacle, as it has big gaps each end and from above! Well, I am not very tall, and I bumped my knees every time I tried to get into the back, knee room was comparable to Toyota Yaris and also my knees were too high, quite uncomfortable sitting position. I canceled my order placed in december, this being one of the reasons.
If you aren't tall, the front seat will be further ahead as well, leaving plenty of space for your legs in the back seat. If you are shorter, you will probably put your front seat higher up to see better, meaning the back seat travellers will get their feet under the front seats sitting even more comfortable. Rest assure, that if you are ok with the 3- or 4-series back seats, you will be perfectly fine in the i4 as well. However, tall(!) people won't sit that comfortable in the back of either BMW i4 or Tesla Mod 3. But, how often is that relevant, and for how long distances, or time...? I am waiting for mine, a eDrive40, hopefully arriving this summer.
I used to have a BMW. The build quality is much better then in my current Tesla model 3. However for me, the customer care has horrific at BMW. It´s not perfect at Tesla but they do try to fix issues (rattles etc) that I have had. At BMW they once actually laughed at me when I had an issue with a broken front seat. This was within the warranty.
Comparison against the other electric cars is interesting as well. Some people find the minimalism of the Tesla annoying and the car itself very ugly. I would have an i4 over a Tesla. Hatchback style boot is a giant win, easily compensating for the lack of a 'froot'. Here the Tesla network is actually already open for other brands. But bmw really needs to put the climate controls back in buttons... I hope they make a separate line so that we can ride if the ICE annoyances in their electric line up.
I along with probably 90% of the people watching reviews for electric cars are amazed at the price of these cars as they are way out of my spending league. Would absolutely love to get one as I do feel that they are the way to go to help save the environment and to drastically reduce the carbon emissions in the towns and cities.
And when you consider what you get from the likes of the bargain basement Dacia Sandero Stepway, (and Skoda etc) it puts all these new electric cars in the high performance high price bracket, beyond most people's wallets.
There are lots of EV that match an ICE on price. And people watching 4 series EV expecting Corsa money should just get that Corsa. Since that's probably the car type they drive ATM.
The best you can do for the environment is to keep driving your current car as long as possible, and switch to a bicycle when in town. EV manufacturing is actually not good at all for the environment. Of course, if you need to buy a new car better an electric than an ICE.
I just ordered the i4 and I will save about $30.000 over 5 yeas compared to my current diesel vehicle. This depends on many factors but try to make that calculation for yourself. In my case both the lease and running are cost clearly lower. I also save $500 a year on a city parking for example, no highway tax etc…no government subsidy towards the car
In the US there are incentives that are income-based to allow lower-income people to avoid EVs. In the California Bay Area, there is a $9500 incentive. There are other non-income based like the $7500 federal tax rebate. Also, other local non-income-based incentives add up to thousands more. I am eligible for the federal tax rebate and about $5250 more in incentives. Eligibility for one does not preclude the others. So, a low-income individual could discount $10K or more of the price and take the $7500 tax rebate to either make the car payments or refinance the car less the $7500.
Experience of cars design and manufacturing for almost a century finally pays off. It's not going to send Tesla packing, but definitely co-exists along side Tesla which is a good thing !
Slight error, when you lifted the bonnet you said the plastic cover was over the electric motor. This may be the case with the M50 version but the i4 40 is RWD only so does not have a motor up front I believe.
Here in New Zealand the BMW is sold through a usual importer/dealership arrangement and is a lot more expensive than a Model 3 (which is sold direct). i4 eDrive 40 is $109,900. Base Model 3 is $72,400 and qualifies for an $8625 rebate bringing it down to $63,775 (the BMW does not qualify because it is over $80,000). Therefore, the big price gap means you are effectively paying for exclusivity and a load of knobs and buttons. I enjoy the handling of my Model 3 Performance but I also enjoy the minimalist interior, the ergonomics of it, the space, and the way it doesn’t try to look like an expensive or high-performance car. It’s simple and works really well. The traditional brands don’t seem to hold much advantage any more. Time will tell
@@KDR816 possibly :) particularly on pre-registered/ex-demo vehicles, which at a small sales volume may be a significant portion (e.g. several per dealership)
Looks ok but so many fundamental design flaws, it’s like the designers were only allowed to address certain elements of the car. As to manufacturers encouraging drivers to take their eyes from the road, why make such basic controls like the ventilation, air con etc difficult to access, it’s potentially very dangerous.
I love the look of the i4 and my PHEV company car is up for renewal next year. However, access to a reliable fast-charging network or lack of it is what is holding me back at present. If i could be sure of being able to charge it i would go for the i4 in a heartbeat
Agreed, at least the i4 HAS a heartbeat. Tesla has done a great job marketing a mediocre quality product and selling the charging at some sort of huge advantage which it really isn't. If it is such a big advantage why do you find Teslas using other chargers?
According to J.D. Power, Tesla vehicles had an average of 176 mechanical faults per 100, compared to 121 for the industry. They ranked tesla 30th out of 33 brands featured in a J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Survey released last year.
That is a little off but not by much. They've gotten a lot better over the years, with the model 3 actually getting decent reviews. But yeah, much lower than BMW regardless.

7:47 (the kick in the ball-sack) "...with a real-world range of 250 miles... that will cover a lot of the journeys you need to do". WTF? This, it’s all fine comparing it to Tesla but to say a 50k car is the future of EV is crazy. The future of EV is when a car comes out that with its classes average annual mileage it takes no more than 3 years to cover the difference in price to ICE
Not that comparable in terms of quality, weight class, appearance etc. Teslas have risen in price, and "comparably" equiped vehicles are no longer that far apart in price, especially after rebates in US.
Yeah but nobody buys the base Tesla Model 3 most people buy the Model 3 LR and by the time you get some half decent stuff on it, it is easily over £50k.
Those stuck on screens just don't do these high end cars any justice. Firstly, Tesla has MILLIONS of Tesla's on the road, Kia and EVERY OTHER EV MAKER, has hundreds, thousands, so how on earth can that be accurate 🤣 Typical Tesla jealousy using lies. Which car is faster, which car runs longer per charge, which car can do over air updates, which car has the most advanced Ai server farm with millions of Tesla's feeding it data over many years that Tesla has had cars on the road. Talk to any tech nut on the planet, Tesla is so far ahead, is the only that produces their own batteries, making them cheaper for what you get. By the time the others reach this level, Tesla will be so far ahead it will be laughable. Millions of cars on the road, not hundreds or thousands lol Research before making ridiculous statements with no backing! Tesla has no restrictions on giving patents or details of their operation, you can research it in full, and you will hopefully learn a thing or 2. But can you provide me any data on BMW'S tech....nope, why would they shoot them selves in the foot and show how far behind they are lol. Update: Tesla have lately opened their super-chargers to cars from other manufacturers so, if that was your key factor to make a decision, you might want to reconsider.
BMW looks much much better. If you charge at home, then the charging network is not a problem. At hotels there is usually a possibility to charge your car.
And since Tesla is opening SC Networks step by step...not even this is an advantage anymore for the near Future...Norway has opened...Netherland has some open Locations already
We bought the model 3 in November 2021. Sold it in Jan 2022 as the paint quality is unacceptable and Tesla refused to fix it. Wish we had gone for the I4. The Tesla service set up is seriously flawed. The service centres have no say on what they can do. They send photos and info to head office and they say yes or no. Not a good service at all.
I love Tesla so much, but cant get passed the way they look, which in my eyes is ugly. The model S is essentially 10 years old now and still being sold. Wish they would refresh their design and make them more appealing. When it comes to looks and build quality, I would choose the BMW from the two. However as a Range Rover driver & lover, I am waiting for the electric version & will get that.
I don’t really Tesla, however, other than charging network, with fully loaded options, technology and the performance are way way ahead of other manufacturers…
Not really. This is a myth of the past. The other companies have caught up, if there are any differences anywhere they are negligible. Most people will need to charge away from home very occasionally and there are now plenty of chargers around, especially with the Tesla network opening up. As for performance, this is absolutely meaningless, all these cars are crazy fast.
Not sure about the numbers per year, but the estimates were too low ... if you order now, you have to wait for about 16 month. BMW is currently ramping up a second production line for Engines...
I need to sit in the back of this again. I'm almost 6' and I say behind my driving setup and my knees were touching the front seat. I don't sit unusually tilted back or anything. Weird.
unfortunately it is a very long waiting time to get one... nearly 1,5 year !! And a strange conclusion, because Tesla has a bigger network for loading it has the better car ??
I don't see how anyone can recommend a model 3, is build quality not a thing? Imagine reviewing any car on the planet, and coming to the conclusion that a tesla is better Call me when your rear lights are full of water or when your power steering fails or when your paint-job isn't even or when you have rust problems (especially Model 3). or when your windows don't close or when your doors open by themselves or when your lights don't work properly or when your trunk lid is full of water or when your front seat feels loose or when your car won't start because it's cold ...but by all means, keep recommending that to your viewers.

What better tech does Tesla have? The BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, Audi, Chevy, and Cadillac, to name a few all have the same tech. Maybe not the fart mode and other shenanigans but it has drive (autopilot) and parking assistance that actually works (BMW has reverse assistance), drive recorder, and climate control. Most Teslas don't have the FSP beta that they have been promised for the past how many years? 5 or more? If all Tesla has is tech then they are truly losing the game because that's EASY to do. The tech is software that anyone can add. Tesla doesn't have a market on software developers. Check out how well BMW's HUD works. Oh, I forgot Tesla doesn't offer HUD. Sorry but let's just be honest. Tesla should be afraid. The only edge they have is fast losing ground. I appreciate their lead on moving EVs to where they are now. However, they should get out of the way if they aren't willing to continue innovating, improving the quality of their cars, or updating their design which hasn't changed in the 10 years they've been around.

Four versions, two RWD and two AWD. The RWD are the E35 and E40. The E35 has a smaller battery than the other three (the other three all have the same size battery). Why cant we just get a really nice sedan, that looks and functions like the fuel variant, but is electric? Why do we have to have these massive silly touch screens 🙄
Totally agree. Having to do everything on a touch screen is so distracting for the driver. The other thing that strikes me is that the gap behind these big screens will probably become a dust trap and very difficult to clean behind?

The closest supercharger here is around 40km. I'd rather charge at home for cheaper price. Never understood that supercharger discussion. For me one of the biggest advantages of EV is not to waste time to refuel it! 99,5% of my use case solved.
Yes I agree. After all the check out, we bought a i4 today. It is so beautiful and smooth. Tesla is good to play with it if you have the money and more than one car in the garage. People just don’t know how many problems that Tesla has. The sudden slow down or try to stop with no reason can scare the drive to death. I won’t even dare to try. Inside is terrible. It looks like a newly constructed house with bare walls. 😢😂
It depends. If one is doing long distance driving regularly then the Tesla is King. If one is doing a daily commute within the max range of the car then the Polestar 2 and BMW i4 are better cars in terms of comfort and luxury.
Let’s address another thing - the one nobody is addressing in all these videos: can you trade in your old ICE car when buying a new Tesla? I don’t want to deal with hundreds of phone calls and a range of potential buyers wasting my time. If I want to buy a new Tesla, I have to sell my old car myself. That is also a huge advantage of the legacy car producers which will let you trade in your old car.
Tesla vehicles are quite expensive to fix. According to RepairPal, the average yearly Tesla maintenance cost is about $832 per year. The average among all car brands was a much lower $652 per year. Teslas also have the third-worst reliability score among all automakers.
Do you own a new Tesla? How much are you spending to fix yours? I own a 2021 Model 3 for the last 1.5 years. and have spent $0.00 to fix it so far. Everything but tires and brake pads (hardly ever used) ar covered under warranty for the first 4 years. There is no scheduled maintenance to pay through the nose for, but if you are wise you will have your brakes cleaned and lubricated once a year, again because they are seldom used. Older Model S and X are less reliable.
A. Tesla is not a "typical" US car and, B. BMWs are full of plastic and are known to be a nightmare to maintain (I own one, don't even go there - I am now a self-taught mechanic, thanks to BMW).
The ride of the BMW i4 is sublime, but it feels a very dark place to be. Was too low with too small storage for me. Ordered a Model Y after test driving every conceivable option (ioniq 5, ev6, i4, mustang ev, eqa)
That's reassuring for me. Model Y on order. It was the natural next step after a Model 3 (we have acquired a dog....) but I did wonder if I should have looked at other options in greater detail. Model Y interior trim is noticeably better than my 2020 Model 3, though I am happy with that.
Show me Tesla's decades of engineering and design experience. The last time someone used buttons for turn signals was in the 60's. There's a reason why wheel stalks work so well. The fact that Tesla would cut corners by eliminating something as practical (an inexpensive) as that-- it does not inspire confidence in the sincerity of their design philosophy.
Had the chance to drive both recently. And I found out that the two cars are worlds apart. The Tesla is cheaper but can't hold a candle to the BMW in terms of quality, handling or styling. BMW the best choice on EV market.

I hope they make a separate line so that we can ride if the ICE annoyances in their electric line up.
The Tesla is butt ugly.
Tesla is a nerd car
4:38 "There is no delay when you swipe"... shows a swipe to the left and absolutely nothing happens on-screen. LOL
Experience of cars design and manufacturing for almost a century finally pays off. It's not going to send Tesla packing, but definitely co-exists along side Tesla which is a good thing !
Slight error, when you lifted the bonnet you said the plastic cover was over the electric motor. This may be the case with the M50 version but the i4 40 is RWD only so does not have a motor up front I believe.
that is true, it covers the void generated by the designers' laziness
Time will tell
don't dealers make discounts?
@@KDR816 possibly :) particularly on pre-registered/ex-demo vehicles, which at a small sales volume may be a significant portion (e.g. several per dealership)
Looks ok but so many fundamental design flaws, it’s like the designers were only allowed to address certain elements of the car. As to manufacturers encouraging drivers to take their eyes from the road, why make such basic controls like the ventilation, air con etc difficult to access, it’s potentially very dangerous.
It's unnecessary but it's at least not as dangerous as removing all stalks or having no HUD
What interior color/material is that ? Is it Napa or Merino leather in Cognac or Mocha? Looks beautiful!
Tacora red Vernasca leather
I love the look of the i4 and my PHEV company car is up for renewal next year. However, access to a reliable fast-charging network or lack of it is what is holding me back at present. If i could be sure of being able to charge it i would go for the i4 in a heartbeat
Agreed, at least the i4 HAS a heartbeat. Tesla has done a great job marketing a mediocre quality product and selling the charging at some sort of huge advantage which it really isn't. If it is such a big advantage why do you find Teslas using other chargers?
My i4 eDrive40 will come with an adapter that will allow me to use the Tesla chargers.
Tesla owner here. Can confirm. More problems with this car than anything else Ive ever owned.
@@TheSlideshowtube That is disheartening!
@@TheSlideshowtube and I've done 100,000 miles in my model S over 6 years with a few problems but no worse than other cars I've owned. But I've only serviced it once and saved thousands on petrol.
Every single thing is reported with a Tesla though, you use the app to book a service call. So a lot of those "faults" will be very minor and fixed under warranty or with over the air fixes.
7:47 (the kick in the ball-sack) "...with a real-world range of 250 miles... that will cover a lot of the journeys you need to do". WTF? Any vehicle priced north of £50k needs to cover ALL journeys you need to do. Do they expect you to have a small £30k run-about as well to cover the rest of the journeys?
'Harry's Garage' review makes a mockery of those claimed figures. I agree, for these huge price hikes, we ought to be looking at better mileage.
Never been to a petrol station during a journey, eh?
@@michaelgoode9555 I have = but not for 50 minutes, have you ever eaten there? :-)
@@gazgandalf4854 30 mins is more than enough. With my kid we stop every 200 km for 15-20 mins. If it was an electric car, then no problem with the range at all
oh man that sucks they dont have buttons for the climate control...thats a dealbreaker for me
What is the most likely thing you're going to adjust in the climate control? The temperature.
The temp controls are always on the screen at the bottom. No need to pull up a new page in order to adjust it.
I4 edrive40 is a respectable competitor to model 3 base and long range both.👌🏻
Can we please stop using the term "Tesla killer" it's like when people use to say "iPhone killer"
Not killer... No supercharger access.... Yet!
Lovely car. We had the 2022 X1 for about 8 months before selling it. The drive 8 was so bad, particularly without a controller, that it had to go! We are now in an iX3.
That dashboard looks like an after market add on. Really not good on a car way North of £50k
3:35 screen tacked onto the dash with a crude looking strut!
@@FairlyOldGit Exactly, that also immediately struck me. That's completely dead space behind the screen, and is going to stack up dust and dirt over time. Don't understand why they didn't just make it a solid base behind the screen so it would also integrate much more nicely with the entire dash.
Nah in person it looks terrific.
But it starts at £51k, Tesla’s are £42k
Tesla M3 from £46k now mate.
Teslas got like 8k€ more expensive this month, here in Germany at least, i guess the all electric future is delayed again
Yeah but nobody buys the base Tesla Model 3 most people buy the Model 3 LR and by the time you get some half decent stuff on it, it is easily over £50k.
That BMW is roughly AUD$110k in Australia, compared to $80 for the revamped M3LR.
funnily in canada it's the opposite. Model 3, model Y and this i4 are the same price... Yes that's right, model y same price as model 3...
Why do they still have those protruding gear sticks in the centre console? They should've been gone in 2015. Take up so much space.
Those stuck on screens just don't do these high end cars any justice. The designers are totally dropping the ball and probably pandering to gamers of all people who just want something that looks like a screen. They simply don't match the interior. This one even has a ugly support at the back to stop it from sliding into you lap. Madness. Sack the designers.
What about lumbar back support? And hardness of the seat?
I'm a diehard Volvo fan, but after getting an i4 xDrive 40 as a rental under my insurance coverage. . . . I feel like I've found my next car. It's incredible.
It's a shame it doesn't look more like the concept honestly. The design is a bit 'meh'.
In The Netherlands the Tesla charger network is open for non-Tesla cars. I guess that makes it a draw…
So in Spain and I guess in the entire EU sooner than later - if not already.
I would love to buy an electric car but the UK charging infrastructure for it is naff
Around 60 to 70% of UK electric car owners charge at home, and use public charging on just a handful of occasions each year....
I would still prefer an estate. In fact I would never buy any other type of car than a compact estate. It seems I'll have to buy an Opel Astra.
Judging a car by the charging network make no sense. This a brilliant car for no doubt.
Nearly one third of EVs had a fault, compared with a rate of 18.6% for gasoline vehicles. Kia was the most reliable EV maker in the study, while Tesla was the least reliable
Lol what a load of crap! Firstly, Tesla has MILLIONS of Tesla's on the road, Kia and EVERY OTHER EV MAKER, has hundreds, thousands, so how on earth can that be accurate 🤣
Typical Tesla jealousy using lies. Millions of cars on the road, not hundreds or thousands lol
Research before making ridiculous statements with no backing! Tesla has no restrictions on giving patents or details of their operation, you can research it in full, and you will hopefully learn a thing or 2. But can you provide me any data on BMW'S tech....nope, why would they shoot them selves in the foot and show how far behind they are lol. They're still using an ice chassy ffs, still has the axle hump 😂
Yes, but Kia's EV is uglier than Roseanne Bar.
Update: Tesla have lately opened their super-chargers to cars from other manufacturers so, if that was your key factor to make a decision, you might want to reconsider.
Not true! they have opened only a few on a trail basis atm
so basically if i live in a area where tesla chargers r few and far between the i4 would be the better car? assuming i hav the money for either
Can't wait. Just ordered one
BMW looks much much better. If you charge at home, then the charging network is not a problem. At hotels there is usually a possibility to charge your car.
And since Tesla is opening SC Networks step by step...not even this is an advantage anymore for the near Future...Norway has opened...Netherland has some open Locations already
we dont want screens we want buttons and dials
A very balanced discussion. Thank you.
Love the shallow depth of field
What color is the reviewed car and is the interior Sensatec or leather?
tesla 3 is super ugly, you should have mentioned that, that is a game changer for coolness factor
Is it clearing bump's in the street's?
I don’t really Tesla, however, other than charging network, with fully loaded options, technology and the performance are way way ahead of other manufacturers…
Not really. This is a myth of the past. The other companies have caught up, if there are any differences anywhere they are negligible. Most people will need to charge away from home very occasionally and there are now plenty of chargers around, especially with the Tesla network opening up. As for performance, this is absolutely meaningless, all these cars are crazy fast.
Yes if it does not have so many problems talked by the users 😢
Are they going to make more than 10K a year of these?
Not sure about the numbers per year, but the estimates were too low ... if you order now, you have to wait for about 16 month.
BMW is currently ramping up a second production line for Engines...
@@josefv-y8m That does sound problematic. The i4 doesn't use an engine.
I need to sit in the back of this again. I'm almost 6' and I say behind my driving setup and my knees were touching the front seat. I don't sit unusually tilted back or anything. Weird.
I’ll wait to see how reliable they are after six months.
The stupid sub woofer in the back looks like something you’d see in “max power” magazine
unfortunately it is a very long waiting time to get one... nearly 1,5 year !! And a strange conclusion, because Tesla has a bigger network for loading it has the better car ??
I don't see how anyone can recommend a model 3, is build quality not a thing?
Imagine reviewing any car on the planet, and coming to the conclusion that a tesla is better
Call me when your rear lights are full of water
or when your power steering fails
or when your paint-job isn't even
or when you have rust problems (especially Model 3).
or when your windows don't close
or when your doors open by themselves
or when your lights don't work properly
or when your trunk lid is full of water
or when your front seat feels loose
or when your car won't start because it's cold
...but by all means, keep recommending that to your viewers.
I dont think you understand. TESLA is not just a car but it comes with its tech/updating software and infrastructure. In which, BMW does NOT have.
The argumente of tesla superchargers is actually not very relevant at all. I have hD a model 3 and now driving a etron. I never needed to charge at a public charger or supercharger even one time. Im charging at home and at work no problems at all.
Hey man how come the claim range is 367 but you said 250 miles where is the proof????
BMW: OHhh you mean you like our normal looking cars more than the Star Trek spaceship vibes?? Alright you freaks here you go.
BMW, etc need to get the UK charging network as good for them as Tesla.
They have a charging network - Ionity, but is quite expensive (double the price of tesla),
@@davidcaia2559 not really as soon you have a charging card from OEMs, which own Ionity...with this it is half the price.
Without this OEM card, it is a blocking Fee for other OEMs like Tesla as long there are only a few chargers available.
It's a work in progress. The likes of Gridserve, Ionity and Fastned are building large charging hubs in the UK at the moment.....
We got one for my son today and we love it. Tesla is not our interest. No way to buy the Tesla. ❤
Another nice BMW with great fit and finish, yes, but the Tesla Model 3 Long Range has better tech, is faster, handles better, has more range, charges faster on a far superior charging network, has more space for occupants and luggage AND is way less expensive. Looks and style are subjective.
Actually around the same price-wise
@@lukepliska1879 I don't know which specific models you are comparing, but that's not what I see here.
Have you driven both cars Philip. T ? Or are you just comparing video's you saw ?
@@peterpoppe4855 Hi Peter, No I have not driven the BMW. Just gathering conclusions from the many reviews I have watched, plus the published performance specs, plus the published pricing and what is included in the various packages. I have owned many German cars and definitely prefer the build and finish to my 2021 Tesla Model 3 Long Range, but looking at the Canadian pricing again today, the Tesla is catching up quickly the the price of the i4M50 which is now only about $3-5000 CDN more expensive. Interesting. My Tesla price has increased about $12,000 CDN in the last 1.5 years since I bought mine. I am enjoying my Tesla, but I am always keeping a close eye on the competition and on the development of the CCS charging network in Canada. The i4M50 definitely more price competitive than Audi, Mercedes or Porsche. Competition is good. Phil
BMW I4 and Polestar 2 are great EVs , the charging network in mainland Europe is excellent.the tesla Supercharger network is also open to all EVs in Europe too anyway.
The eDrive40 m sport pro pack is the one to go for. Better handling, stearing, comfort, looks and hatchback practicality gives it the win over the Model 3 for me.
Other than the base model is £10k more expensive and the waiting list is significantly longer 😬
@@petermosley4515 68db at 130km/h compared to 73db is worth it.

How many models are they of the i4
Four versions, two RWD and two AWD.
The RWD are the E35 and E40. The E35 has a smaller battery than the other three (the other three all have the same size battery). The E40 has the longest range because it has the same battery as the AWD versions but only one motor.
The AWD versions have two motors and are the X40 and the M50.
The M50 is the top-line most powerful version. All the fancy stuff that's an optional add-on in the other models come standard on the M50.
Why cant we just get a really nice sedan, that looks and functions like the fuel variant, but is electric? Why do we have to have these massive silly touch screens 🙄
Yea, just like the ix3 but different form factor
Totally agree. Having to do everything on a touch screen is so distracting for the driver. The other thing that strikes me is that the gap behind these big screens will probably become a dust trap and very difficult to clean behind?
it has i-Drive, what are you on about? one of the few that actually use physical buttons for phone calls, menu, navigation, etc ett. then you got voice commands on top of that.

The closest supercharger here is around 40km. I'd rather charge at home for cheaper price. Never understood that supercharger discussion.
For me one of the biggest advantages of EV is not to waste time to refuel it! 99,5% of my use case solved.
why is everyone obsessed with beating Tesla, the object to beat ICE cars????

Come on. Driving Tesla 3 is like driving a go cart made of recycled cans and PET bottles. Driving BMW is... is just a pleasure.
Seeing those prices damn inflation hits hard.
Looks nice 👌 👍🏻, A Tesla looks like a bar of soap in comparison 😂
Every time I hear "Tesla killer" I give instant dislike. Just don't do it!
Yep. Just another EV cliche.
Same exact review for every Tesla beater video, it doesn't have the supercharger network.
And strangely enough, most people don't need it....... I've had my EV for just over 2 years. I have yet to even touch a Tesla Supercharger.....
I’m liking the new style
Had a look at the lead time for one of these? Not good
Tesla vehicles are quite expensive to fix.
No. Cus no supercharger network.
Having had experience of American build quality, the typical US car starts to fall to pieces after about two years.
A. Tesla is not a "typical" US car and, B. BMWs are full of plastic and are known to be a nightmare to maintain (I own one, don't even go there - I am now a self-taught mechanic, thanks to BMW).
Not driven either but in terms of just looks the bmw wins.
The ride of the BMW i4 is sublime, but it feels a very dark place to be. Was too low with too small storage for me. Ordered a Model Y after test driving every conceivable option (ioniq 5, ev6, i4, mustang ev, eqa)
Also once I specced the m40 to match a model Y, it was £63k!!!
That's reassuring for me. Model Y on order. It was the natural next step after a Model 3 (we have acquired a dog....) but I did wonder if I should have looked at other options in greater detail. Model Y interior trim is noticeably better than my 2020 Model 3, though I am happy with that.
You not like the driving position Chris...do you sit higher in the Model Y then?
Hi, yes, much higher in the Y.
That percentage difference between claimed range and real world range is criminal
Show me BMWs world wide charger network…
Show me Tesla's decades of engineering and design experience.
The last time someone used buttons for turn signals was in the 60's. There's a reason why wheel stalks work so well. The fact that Tesla would cut corners by eliminating something as practical (an inexpensive) as that-- it does not inspire confidence in the sincerity of their design philosophy.
I remember the old VW advert,it’s like a golf, all EV reviews now it’s like. Tesla…..
The only reason to buy this over a Tesla is if you want to be a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian.
To be a Tesla killer it needs at least £15K knocking off the price.
Fiant Punto is quite cheap. Isn't it a Tesla killer then? BTW You can find 50k offers for i4 at various dealerships.
