      Don't know if anyone said it, but decibels are on a logarithmic scale. A difference of 10dB is equal to a 10X difference in intensity of sound. As you assumed, it's not linear. Hence the difference between 55dBA and 60 dBA is 60 has 3.17 higher intensity of sound. That said, a normal household refrigerator generates about 55dBA and a normal fully occupied business office or a conversation between two people sitting one meter apart is about 60dBA. Neither is particularly objectionable, but 55dBA is noticeably quieter.

    We have 2021 Model Y and recently test drove the BMW I4 35. The ride quality difference and interior noise levels are night and day apart. The BMW fit and finish was top notch as well. I inspected the entire interior and exterior with a fine tooth comb and found zero flaws. The panel fitment and paint quality was flawless. The BMW just felt bank vault tight compared to our Y that has rattles and bangs when driving over bumps. The refreshed Y can’t come soon enough as it’s aging fast against the competition in its segment.

      You Cannot compare your old 2021 to a new BMW! The Electrical systems are inferior! The wind noise coming off the side mirrors is rubbish engineering! Good luck when it’s out of warranty! BMWs are notorious for falling apart after the warranty. The front end of the BMW is not aerodynamic. If you want a dumb macho electric car, go ahead by the BMW. It has no charging infrastructure.! The computer system is garbage in the BMW. It will guide you to broken chargers that you have to insert your credit card in each time you get charge! The new model Y juniper is going to be out in a year and it’s gonna blow the doors off and BMW on the planet! BMW’s

      @@GuNzTaa"way better" how? Because of more charging stations? Ok...that's important but only a single factor. I *hate* the single touchscreen display for everything in the Tesla. You take your eyes off the road for way too long. On the BMW, you can see an option you want, three selections down, then just rotate the haptic controller "click, click, click, push" and know you've selected it - without looking at the screen. The Tesla is put to shame on the interior and there's loads of science baked into the BMW interior respective to driver distraction. It's as though Tesla doesn't care at all.

      @@GuNzTaai4 is way better. Better looking, avail advanced HUD, laser lights, adaptive air suspension, more luxurious and not as common as a Corolla. And you aren't stuck driving a Tesla. But the Lucid was EPA rated at 76 miles more than the BMW and only tied it. On Consumer reports 70mph test, the 271 mi EPA i4 did 318 miles. At 70mph! Tesla always disappoints.😊

    Agree. Love the i4, esp w/ the hatch, but bought the Tesla as it was about 60% of the i4 price (tax break) with the only charging network that actually works in US and continuing improvements over time. Maybe I’ll get a used i4 in 2-3 years.

    • @catbert7
      @catbert7 2 місяці тому

      Unfortunately, the hatch is literally the only advantage the i4 has over the new Highland Model 3, while the Tesla has all these:
      $17k cheaper, BEFORE OPTIONS (see below)
      +40 mile range, at the mid-trim.
      Much higher safety scores from Euro NCAP (and i4 is not even tested in the US, somehow... wtf)
      21 cubic feet of storage vs the i4's 10...
      Screen in back
      Better voice controls
      360 camera coverage, and playback, vs the i4's single backup camera
      Better app, driver-assist, infotainment, and other software
      FSD Beta as an option
      And all these standard, which are extra-cost options on the i4: Heated Seats, Ventilated Seats, Adaptive Headlights, Wireless phone charging, Heated steering wheel, Lumbar controls, Adaptive cruise control...

    Infrastructure has always been my gripe about charging. I live in the midwest and it seems many third party chargers are often off-line, very temperamental or simply don't work at any given time. It's frustrating and has the potential to put a driver in a dangerous situation or at the very least an expensive one.
    I am currently driving an i3 and will get the refreshed M3 performance when it makes its debut or the long range later in the year.
    Another thing that bugs me is that a lot of people still don't get how to charge. I've seen people put their car on a fast charger, call a buddy, then leave for an hour or so when there are level 2 chargers at the same location.

    Basically, 3db means there is double the sound pressure, 10db would feel like it's twice as loud. you can easily tell that something with an additional 3db is considerably louder. I'd agree with this totally I love my Model Y performance, but it's not that quiet, especially on the motorway.

    My i4 is 1 1/2 years old. Still consider it the best car I've ever owned. My first non manual too in MANY years. The Tesla was proof of concept but is now way overdue for replacement. Problems for the i4 are the range and charging network, so no more road trips for now. When its time to replace our ICE car, will get a plug in hybrid - if its a hatchback with sufficient brake regen for one pedal driving - which gives the control of a manual. At the time I purchased, credits were available on both cars, and the i4 was not that much more expensive than the Model 3 or Kia EV6. + a real dealer support network.

    I drove both, bought the BMW...... Just so much higher quality materials, fit and finish, and it drives so well. Don't get me wrong, I like the Tesla, it's a nice drive, seamless tech integration, but for me I want a car, and I like quality, so BMW was an easy win. On my i4, when I change drive modes the range forecast changes immediately, e.g I am in eco pro mode, range is 300 kms, change to sport mode, the range forecast will drop to 275 kms immediately, and will increase when go back to eco pro.................... Great car, my first EV, very happy with it

    19:53 For those wondering about decibels and how it relates linearly here you go…
    Each 10-decibel increase corresponds to a tenfold increase in sound intensity. So, if you go from 50 to 60 decibels, it’s not a 10% increase - it’s actually 10 times more intense sound. The logarithmic nature reflects our perception of sound, where small changes in decibels represent larger changes in how we perceive loudness.

    Sound level is a complex matter. +5 dB is twice the power, but not twice as loud. It represents about a 25% increase in loudness. +10 dB would be a doubling. You'd definitely perceive -5dB as quieter. Those are nice figures for both cars actually.

    In the end it comes down to preference imo. Tesla is much more fancy but if you choose the BMW you know what you will get. A solid & high quality car. Or in other words: Teslas are extremely affordable in US, but only in US.

    2:26 There's no way those diffusers are functional. Not enough surface area to catch and slow down the underbody air.
    8:17 That's the seat belt warning chime.
    11:25 The 19" wheels will rob you of 10% range, so take 25 miles off. I have an E40 model with the 19s so the original range estimate of 300 miles is whittled to 280 in real-world driving experience (though that may have improved if I decided to use Eco mode at all!)
    16:19 Good call. I turned Lane Assist off soon as I got it (too many false positive alerts), and I don't experience any darting sensation at all.
    21:28 It's not the motor you have to worry about in such circumstances-- it's the tires. EVs put down a lot of torque through the wheels, and it does so by pushing through literal tons of sheer weight. Drive like a maniac and you're going to be replacing tires like crazy.

    I have a model 3 and i40, I’ve never used any of the lower kw chargers in store parking lots, anything under 50 isn’t worth it unless you’re really low on charge. I took a few hour drive to the beach last summer and the BMW did well and had a little bit more charge than the 3 did when we got to the beach. The suspension is a lot softer too, my 3 has coil overs and I keep them about 5 clicks from soft all around but it’s still a bit stiffer ride than the BMW.

It's been around for decades and is a proven means of lowering the time you spend looking at the screen. A touchscreen requires you to look at it the entire time you're touching options. On the Tesla everything requires touch navigation, everything through a single screen - I *hate* that, much longer time with eyes on the screen. just pointing out the reality that "i never take my dog anywhere" and daily driving a dog in a rural area vintage SUV with huge old windows and mulitple sunroofs that open up, making it feel super open like a convertible in warm weather...are very different urban/ rural routines for a dog. Yeah I have lived in town before with my dog and obviously you don't drive as much then - and you'd be in more traffic if you did, which isn't fun for you or your dog - especially on hot days. Dogs love riding in certain models of cars that have roomy interiors or are converted for dogs/ seats removed, with ample padding / footing and lots of air-flow through the interior. It almost makes more sense to buy a separate, beater old SUV to convert to your dog mobile, if you're in the market for a new BMW i4 and have the space. And fresh air flow is everything for dogs. "Dog Mode" on your Tesla is never going to be more comfortable than me leaving my dog in an old SUV with sunroofs open, shades pulled, windows half-open; this is common sense for people who breathe air and know physiology and understand dogs and heat and how they breathe etc. (unless it's like 100 degrees outside and you can't find shade, in which case you would want to be really careful leaving a dog in a car whatsoever).

      Tesla doesn't have to compete against its own lineup of gas, diesel, and hybrid vehicles in the same model family. In a BMW dealership you're walking past the 440i and 330e to get to the i4.

    • @trayvonlittle9326
      @trayvonlittle9326 3 місяці тому

      I don’t understand why that matters. Trying to mimic a gas vehicle with an electric drivetrain to me is a mistake. The i4 should have its own chassis and it’s own identity and should compete directly with Tesla not other vehicles in its lineup. People looking for an EV wouldn’t care much about the gas powered vehicles in the showroom Tesla is just objectively better.

    • @BogeyTheBear
      @BogeyTheBear 3 місяці тому +4

      It kinda matters because the gas-powered BMWs are themselves kinda good at being cars. The argument that the i4 is just a conversion from a gas vehicle has less punch when you consider that gas vehicle _is a BMW._
