Well, the horns are a bit exaggerated on Adams’s board, but the wheels on Joe’s board are similar to a type of longboard wheels called “shark wheels” which are kinda square in their appearance
Its not realistic when it comes to those moves that they are presenting during the races. But the storyline, character development and drama is pretty realistic. But there are 3 unrealistic things that count as animation sins 1. Langa falling on his elbows and not ripping his skin of despire not having protectors 2. Adam begin in the Zone and explaining to Langa what is this. Is Adam like a 4 wall breaker. I mean he is delusional but WHAT!? 3. Adam begin forgiven cuz he has a trauma. He should be in jail! Or Joe should beat him up, or he should die in the end! What the hell...
A very sweet video about how sk8 portrays skateboarding ^_^ It's true unrealistic portrayals is jarring with literal lenses but that's why animation is best at capturing exaggeration. The best part of animation is that realistic isn't about capturing the physical aspects, but the emotional aspects! Pointing out that first ollie was a perfect example of this notion~
Actually there is a skateboard that acts like a snowboard, it’s called a Freeboard. Basically it looks like a skateboard with extra long axles with a swivel wheel in the middle on both ends of the board. It even has the same hook foot strap, but on both ends not just one like on the show.

i had to do a double take on the date of this video, i didn't realize its been 2 years since SK8 came out. it was a really good series and brought me back to my Air Gear days, another skate type anime that i love. i love figure skating but Yuri on Ice just doesn't do it for me unfortunately. i love the punk-esque side of skating. i really hope we get more skateboarding/roller skating anime in the future, i would love to support them.

Yeah no long boarder actually planks while going downhill, but if you look up downhill longboarding on UA-cam you can find some really cool videos of people making themselves really small to lower air resistance
The plank is fake, but there is a type of free ride longboard trick that puts you hands down on pavement with your toes on the nose of the board. It's a stupid freakishly hard slide that if you mess, up you grind your skin off your face. You have to have sliding pucks for most types of slides, like this one
I was pretty confused with langas skateboarding style! I used to skateboard and I ski while the rest of my family snowboards. I most definetly know my brothers, who are advanced snowboarders, would not immediately be great at skateboarding after taping their feet to the snowboard. I thought it was unique that they compared the two, thougj. also, dancing in skateboards is a thing?? what???

Dope video, I tried to get into skating a bit last summer but gave it up. This anime is low-key giving me motivation to pick it back up!

Yeah dancing on longboards is a thing, it’s not as dramatic as Adam’s dances but they look cool
