I've started skateboard 3 months ago, i like how you explain how to do tricks with a nice calming voice, since now i can do small ollies and manuals thanks to your videos and i hope i can learn more tricks :D
The absolute number 1 tip for newbie skaters is to BEND YOUR KNEES. By bending your knees you are also applying pressure to your board making it so that you actually STICK to the board without falling off. Not only that but EVERY SINGLE TRICK quite literally requires you to BEND YOUR KNEES. I see a lot of Skateboard tutorials forgot to mention this crucial tip.
True af. Ive been strugglin with ollies while moving and I just never been told to bend knees on landing, tried it and now its getting better and better
I’ve been trying to learn how to skateboard since for two years now but my only issue is that I’m embarrassed to skate in public. I feel humiliated because I’m a complete beginner. I never realized how difficult it is to leave your comfort zone update : got the skateboard and am gonna go skate with a friend whos gonna inline skate but hey at least we are skating together 👍👍
It is, I complete agree with you. Try going early to the park, there less people at that hour, or, if you have the chance, clear a small space, at least good enough to practice your ollie
@@tbh_feavzz nah you don't suck, you're just inexperienced, and we all are to our own extent. Also don't let the public embarrassment deter you from skating in public. Learn to enjoy skating for yourself, not for others, it'll also help you greatly to keep skating even when you have no one to skate with. When I first started skating, I fell off my board many times in public over the smallest thing, going down a driveway I would get so scared halfway down and I would jump off my board and end up tripping in front of strangers, an old lady once thought I was mentally insane because I hit a pebble and fell on my back really hard but all I did was laugh while laying on the ground for a few minutes in pain from the impact, but I learned to enjoy skating no matter how terrible I may be at it. Skating and just cruising around in public also indirectly teaches you one key role to improving at anything, learning to be comfortable stepping out of your comfort zone. Enough ranting from me, y'all keep skating 👌
The thing is, if you are polite and don’t cut people off and stuff like that, people will be supportive and nice, 99 percent of the time people are focusing on their own stuff and don’t really care what you are doing, so just go to a skatepark and practice :)
Another good tip is you don’t have to rush into tricks. Just spend time cruising. The more comfortable you are on the board the easier some tricks will be. Also a good way to get used to the the board changing high or dropping is to practice riding down curbs. Always start small even if you think its too easy start small and build from there. I started skating when I was about 7 years old, I remember seeing my brother doing kick flips on his skate board. I rode around the closest flat Area near my neighbourhood. I could only go forward, I gave up only after buying it because I knew it would be to hard. It’s been 5 years later and I’ve decided to have another go and this time not give up so this video really helped me to understand the basics.
UA-cam recommended me a couple of your shorts, subscribed. Idk what it is, but the atmosphere in your videos is just really comfortable and has a sense of familiarity, feels like I'm hanging out with a super chill old friend. Got my first ever board yesterday, spent the evening practicing balancing, pushing and stuff. In an hour I went from being unable to stand on a board to going down a little hill turning left and right. I'm having an absolute blast with skating, my only regret is not having tried it out sooner. Gonna watch more of your videos and keep improving 💪🏼
i started picking up skateboarding again after a decade + more years. i started skating when i was in highschool, it was just for about a month then i got injured and stopped. now i'm reaching my 30s but i don't want to regret not picking it up again. i struggle as i gained a lot of weight but i will keep on going!
Love it man. Definitely agree that if you can make it, going into a skate shop is a must. The crew at my shop are all so chill and super excited to help more people get into skating.
Hi!, I'm 45 years old now and slowly learning all of this again. I really find your videos helpful as I watch and learn again and at the same time teach my 7 year old daughter. More power to you!
I got my board around 3 years ago, I’m still a beginner, I haven’t gotten on it in a year, I plan on going back to the park I just wish I had more skater friends
Starting my skating journey after putting it off for years. I have many of my dads amazing boards, but he died last year, thanks for helping me connect with his passions ❤
I used to skate but my board was crap and got stolen, got a new one and I immediately ate concrete. I put a big ol bandaid on my elbow and kept going :)
I’m 23 years old, bought a skateboard to cruise around town. Feel a little embarrassed around my neighborhood, been practicing with kids biking around, but that’s ok their parents are cheering for me 😂 Today was the second day of practice, I try to learn how to tic tac. I have full protection, I did a really bad fall and it scared me now. I’m in a process of acceptance : I’m going to fall a lot but that’s part of the journey to get better
Hey Wavy can you please do a full part 2 about getting comfortable on your board because I’m having a really hard time getting comfortable on my skateboard.
I would say learning to get comfortable on your board is to really just cruise around on it, get used to how it feels, I just cruise around my college campus because there’s so many types of terrain, hope that helps!
just started at 23 after getting my own board at new years :) because i surfed and snowboarded going forward isn't too hard but man am i scared of doing anything more! thanks for showing the basics well, now i can practice them until i feel more comfortable!!
This encouraged me to start practicing over the weekends and when I have free time, since I've had a skateboard for a year now and I've been too scared to try it
I recently watched sk8 infinity and really wanted to give skating a try, my birthday is in 2 months and I'm copping a nice board of good quality. I'll 100% come back to this vid to learn skating once again. Also subscribing cause I love your vibe and your teaching style :D
I asked for a Skateboard for Christmas cause I wanted to learn. My Sister's BF got me one from a skate shop called Zumiez, it's nice quality and I love the design! I've been following you since October and I'm ready to learn.
Zumiez is fine but shop local!! Everyone is really nice and way more invested in helping you because they care more about skating and having you come back as a repeat customer
I have been skateboarding for almost 2 years and when I started I didn’t fall it’s like I was born for it now I’m learning how to do a pop shove it the landings are so hard 😂
the reason why they use the term goofy is that the cartoon character called goofy used a surf board with right foot forward so people started calling it goofy (ps its goofy from micky mouse)
yo, thanks for this video, i hit a stoprock in december and couldnt skate or run for like 3 months bc of surgery. so its time to learn how to do this stuff again
0:07 nobody else is commenting on this, so I will. I'm sitting at my desk with a sprained ankle studying to become a great skater starting as a novice. I've got my very first manga book in front of me - My Hero Academia Volume 31. I open this video, and at the time stamp, I see a Dabi board. Rather ironic, isn't it?
@@Ajanimations17 Thanks for your comment, I was confused about what I commented at first, but I remember it now. However, your comment takes me back to my carefree days and now I've got the motivation to make time for skateboarding again. Thanks :)
Thanks I needed this, it help me a lot and hopefully It will help more people. I really like your videos, is like learning skateboarding with a good old friend. And i thank you for all your videos!
Keep cruising like this as much as you can and you'll get really comfortable and you won't even notice. It took me at least 4 months as I would only skate on weekends due to other priorities (adulthood🙄). But I started noticing I was getting comfortable cruising when I started pushing without getting out of balance and I could basically just stand on the board with my lead foot for forever. Bend them knees, practice tic tacs, pivots and turns, practice stopping and mounting techniques, roll off and on mellow banks gradually progressing on steeper ones and transitions and next thing you'll know you'll be practicing moving ollies!! Good luck and always have FUN!! 🔥
I tried to learn how to skate a while ago but it just didn’t click, but I just picked it up today and although my form is questionable I can balance on the skate board and push myself
I watched CallMeKevin's skateboarding video and now youtube's like "OH HERE YOU GO MORE VIDS ABOUT SKATEBOARDING". I never touched a skateboard before. I am not complaining
@@Rdubs_ Its actually doing great, I know how to balance on my board and stuff like that but I can't do an ollie for the LIFE of me. My timing is off but thats really my only issue
Man I broke both my arms skating and now I have rods in them and the doctor said that I would have a very slim chance of using my arms and thank the lord I can use both my arms but don’t give up ima go back to the skate park but never give up what u love I want to get in the Olympic skating
I would not jump on my board before knowing how to push just to check if I’m goofy or regular… you can easily slip and fall like that and might give up skating immediately!
I didn’t know anything about skateboarding until I saw this, I love the video and thirty-forty minutes of practice and now I learned to turn (but not to good) I love this video.
I'd love to start skating it's like one of my dreams I even bought a skateboard but the thing is that I don't have any flat concrete place near my house or even in my town and it's ruining everything :')
literally everyone in college told me to start skating because i look "chill af", but i didn't want to look like a poser and infiltrate/mimic/or even mock a subculture so i always turned it down but now i finally gave in (after finding a ripndip t shirt in a thrift shop for 5 bucks, i see this as a divine calling)
Hi I'm a beginner, I just bought my skateboard yesterday and I want to go to a better place to go and practice oh and I got my first off balance yesterday you see my left leg kinda land in the wrong balance but I'm ok though 👍
I just found an abandoned Skateboard like an hour ago and im planning on starting to learn once i get it fixed up (the wheels are pretty old and the board seems to have some water damage and is kinda splintery)
I'm 3 days in and you think just riding around for a couple hours a day will be good? I've tried to ollie and am kinda getting the hang of it already but cant land a clean one.
Bro I fractured my wrist when i fell while skateboarding, and every time I have a little fall, I automatically think I broke my wrist again. And it’s really hard on me when I try my Ollie’s. Stay safe guys!❤
I have been trying to get my first Ollie and I kinda did it but not very high lol and right now I'm dealing with panic attacks so I can't really go outside because of how scared I am :(
I'm excited to learn to skate, I just ordered my first skateboard, I'll try to really enjoy it and be good at it, it would surely but my mind in the now ( present ) and that's a win for me .thanks for the tips
I don't usually comment on videos but I legit needed to for this one bcs i found it comforting as a beginner. gave me more confidence in ridin my skateboard!
I've been practicing my first few times on a smooth floor in the basement so far. I'm very new to skateboarding, and find that the board rolls veeery easily whenever I step on or off. Here, the board looks quite stable while you're doing various feet positioning at around the 9:00 mark. Is it my floor being very slippery, or Wavy being super good at countering the board's tiny movements?
i think its just getting used to the tiny movements and keeping your legs/feet still on the board, im not very good but i just learned to ollie while moving.
@@Th4r1anP4ws Well, I'd like to, but I haven't found any good place for a 36yo to learn this properly alone without looking absolutely silly. So no, it's just sitting there, collecting dust... :(
Hey Yung wavy, Im new to skating so where can I skate where there is smoothish concrete and no people around?? My driveway is super rocky to skate on! Thanks!

broooo, you are trying to go way too fast man. dont try more advanced tricks when you cant ollie. try get more comfortable cruising around on the board, work on the basics, get them down and then go onto kickflips and heelflips

I started to skate like a year ago. I was unemployed and had nothing to do with my life so I just picked up skateboarding. It was fun. I skate everyday until I'm eventually burned out. Then I got a job and completely ditched all my skating stuff. Then after almost a year, I picked up my skateboard again and surprisingly my balance is still good. I can still cruise around my neighborhood with no problem at all. I might actually do it seriously now but of course only on my day off. Not trying to get burned out again.

You've encouraged me to start skating again after months of not trying, thanks
35 year old here about to learn skating as a new year's resolution!
Still going?
How’s it going?
I use to skateboard back 16yrs ago I stopped in my late teens. This video really helps get back into it thank you
Love it man.
Your vids are my fave. Your chill and fearlessness makes me feel chill and fearless with it. Never stop skating!
About to start soon, just saving up for a good board, can’t wait.
I just wanna thank you yung wavy for inspiring me to start skating a while back 🤝❤️
Starting my skating journey after putting it off for years. I have many of my dads amazing boards, but he died last year, thanks for helping me connect with his passions ❤
I started skating yesterday and I felt like everyone is watching and judging me 💀
Also had a great time falling on my knees💀
I used to skate but my board was crap and got stolen, got a new one and I immediately ate concrete. I put a big ol bandaid on my elbow and kept going :)
I'm back after a 2 year break and I fell right on my back today 😭😭 gotta love it tho
Good luck as usual don't give up haha, one important thing is learning how to fall so you don't sprain any of your body.
I definitely recommend this video to people getting started .
Hey Wavy can you please do a full part 2 about getting comfortable on your board because I’m having a really hard time getting comfortable on my skateboard.
I agree
I would say learning to get comfortable on your board is to really just cruise around on it, get used to how it feels, I just cruise around my college campus because there’s so many types of terrain, hope that helps!
I’ve just found a new hobby and it’s skateboarding, I’ve been starting it on a longboard but I’m buying a skateboard soon.
7:47 the way bro managed to roll that entire time
just started at 23 after getting my own board at new years :) because i surfed and snowboarded going forward isn't too hard but man am i scared of doing anything more! thanks for showing the basics well, now i can practice them until i feel more comfortable!!
This encouraged me to start practicing over the weekends and when I have free time, since I've had a skateboard for a year now and I've been too scared to try it
I was considering if I wanted to try skateboarding or not so when I saw your video, it encouraged me to try! Thanks for all the tips!
I recently watched sk8 infinity and really wanted to give skating a try, my birthday is in 2 months and I'm copping a nice board of good quality. I'll 100% come back to this vid to learn skating once again. Also subscribing cause I love your vibe and your teaching style :D
Happy early birthday!
@@averyzh tysm!
You got a board yet bro?
@@vince8684 oh im going out to buy it tmrw, will give an update!
@@shubaan sick dude, how’d it go?
I like what you doing bringing people to the skate family skate community and your videos are so realxing
yo, thanks for this video, i hit a stoprock in december and couldnt skate or run for like 3 months bc of surgery. so its time to learn how to do this stuff again
That’s god (or if your not religious fate) saying your gonna be a legend,a goat, a master
@@Ajanimations17 Thanks for your comment, I was confused about what I commented at first, but I remember it now. I haven't devoted much time to my boarding skills as of late, as I've been busy with school and such. However, your comment takes me back to my carefree days and now I've got the motivation to make time for skateboarding again. Thanks :)
Im 15 and considering buying a board, so this video is super helpful! I hope im not too old to start but ill try my best anyways
The only reason I picked up skating after I got hurt 1 month ago was because of you and your vids and just today I finally got the slappy nose slide
Learning how to bail and taking a fall. Will boost confidence. Can't be afraid. Most attempts of any trick, usually fail. Do or Don't. ALMOST!👍.
Today I did the splits on accident while skating, I’m pretty flexible so I was fine but I feel bad if it was anyone else 😅
Having a dabi skateboard really is good motivation for getting my a$$ up and start skating
I tried to learn how to skate a while ago but it just didn’t click, but I just picked it up today and although my form is questionable I can balance on the skate board and push myself
U really help with my skateboarding this is the best skateboarding video yet!
Your videos motivated me to start skating and I’m loving it 😊
This is gonna help a ton of ppl 🖤
Bro thank you SO SO much for this vid. That helped me damn much dude
I watched CallMeKevin's skateboarding video and now youtube's like "OH HERE YOU GO MORE VIDS ABOUT SKATEBOARDING". I never touched a skateboard before. I am not complaining
thank you so much for this tutorial, this actually seems pretty helpful when I start teaching myself how tomorrow. respect bro
How’s it going?
@@Rdubs_ Its actually doing great, I know how to balance on my board and stuff like that but I can't do an ollie for the LIFE of me. My timing is off but thats really my only issue
That’s awesome. Keep going man
Man I broke both my arms skating and now I have rods in them and the doctor said that I would have a very slim chance of using my arms and thank the lord I can use both my arms but don’t give up ima go back to the skate park but never give up what u love I want to get in the Olympic skating
Yo this helped a bunch and really like all the stuff you do!
I’ve been really nervous to skate outside because I have trouble with learning to turn sharp corners and doing tricks so thank you.
Following your tutorial videos & it's helping me a lot, gracias mate ❤️
I'd love to start skating it's like one of my dreams I even bought a skateboard but the thing is that I don't have any flat concrete place near my house or even in my town and it's ruining everything :')
literally everyone in college told me to start skating because i look "chill af", but i didn't want to look like a poser and infiltrate/mimic/or even mock a subculture so i always turned it down but now i finally gave in (after finding a ripndip t shirt in a thrift shop for 5 bucks, i see this as a divine calling)
Very nice informative video just subbed and started skating again after 20 years. Have a blessed day.
Thank you so much dude! Even though I’m not new to skating it’s been real helpful :)
Hi I'm a beginner, I just bought my skateboard yesterday and I want to go to a better place to go and practice oh and I got my first off balance yesterday you see my left leg kinda land in the wrong balance but I'm ok though 👍
Getting my first skateboard this friday.. Kinda nervous but the vibe of this video is really informative! Thanks for explaining so calmly ^^!
I’ve been skating for about a week and I Alr had a bad fall, I literally can’t move my shoulder
Always stoked for these videos from Yung Wavy :)
Nice vid bro, keep up the good work!!👍👍
I just found an abandoned Skateboard like an hour ago and im planning on starting to learn once i get it fixed up (the wheels are pretty old and the board seems to have some water damage and is kinda splintery)
This is so encouraging it inspires me and makes me see skateboarding as a feat I can in fact conquer :D thank you!
I am trying to skate right now! Working on my balance and push, and man is it fun!! I hope I have the preservernce to keep going!!
I have been trying to get my first Ollie and I kinda did it but not very high lol and right now I'm dealing with panic attacks so I can't really go outside because of how scared I am :(
And one time I messed up outside and the other more experienced skaters laughed at me
@@wafflekatsad cruel world I was good years ago stepped on one recently and can't remember how to ollie
Saw this a year later, hope you're okay now, people are cruel ☹️
I'm excited to learn to skate, I just ordered my first skateboard, I'll try to really enjoy it and be good at it, it would surely but my mind in the now ( present ) and that's a win for me .thanks for the tips
Just enjoy the skateboarding process.:) it doesn't matter what you do and which way you do the tricks:)
I don't usually comment on videos but I legit needed to for this one bcs i found it comforting as a beginner. gave me more confidence in ridin my skateboard!
DAY 1: I brought new skateboard. I tried it and fall. But I'll keep trying.
Your my hero academia dabi board is awesome, I recognised the eyes and around them
Guess imma goofy skater 😂
Its good to start as a kid
I've been practicing my first few times on a smooth floor in the basement so far. I'm very new to skateboarding, and find that the board rolls veeery easily whenever I step on or off.
Here, the board looks quite stable while you're doing various feet positioning at around the 9:00 mark.
Is it my floor being very slippery, or Wavy being super good at countering the board's tiny movements?
i think its just getting used to the tiny movements and keeping your legs/feet still on the board, im not very good but i just learned to ollie while moving.
hey r u still skating? Any updates after 1 yr?
@@Th4r1anP4ws Well, I'd like to, but I haven't found any good place for a 36yo to learn this properly alone without looking absolutely silly. So no, it's just sitting there, collecting dust... :(
@gamerjema243 awh you should hop back on! Even a road will be okay. Find a road or a driveway is an area people don't go in :)
@@Th4r1anP4ws Thanks! Might hunt a little for a suitable place again come spring. Maybe on a sunday morning haha
My dad bought me an skateboard long time ago and I think it’s about time I put it into work!
Hey Yung wavy, Im new to skating so where can I skate where there is smoothish concrete and no people around?? My driveway is super rocky to skate on! Thanks!
Look for parklots or empty skateparks
Go outside man 🤘🏽
skateboarding is a very public hobby, though it may seem intimidating at first the best places to skate are skateparks and they will most likely be busy. hit them early in the morning or in the night if you’re intimidated by others but just know that everyone is very welcoming and very helpful! :)
This is the most chill dude Ive ever seen
I've been skateboarding since the 6th grade. I'm gonna start the 10th grade in the Fall and I can only Ollie. I've been trying and trying but I can't 180 I can't Shuv-it I can't Kickflip and I can't Heelflip 😭
broooo, you are trying to go way too fast man. dont try more advanced tricks when you cant ollie. try get more comfortable cruising around on the board, work on the basics, get them down and then go onto kickflips and heelflips
your atmosphere is so calming
My dream is to skate with you 🥖🥖
As a kid I always wanted to skate, but I was too scared of getting hurt... I am now 32 years old and finally decided to start and your videos have been a great companion. Thank you so much, you're a chill guy. 🛹
