When judge Simpson says "Is there anything else Mr Bennett" is the time for an unreserved apology.
Possibly but he always says that….could have apologized but perhaps just moving on is the best thing
If I paid for this lawyer I would definitely be looking for someone else
Id still ask for another if it was public.
SadieMccollough-mf3jl0 seconds ago
@jefflitchford1422 Agreed. The problem is that it's very hard to find a good attorney who will take the case of someone who had problems with their previous attorney. It is assumed that the client is difficult and thinks they know more about the law than a lawyer. Been there on a civil matter with an incredibly incompetent attorney who just kept escalating the situation. Rejected several times before finding an excellent lawyer to dig us out of the mess the first one created.
“You have raised the ire of this court” is the BEST way to say “Y’all pissed me off!!”
Judge Simpson is one of the most well-spoken judges I've ever heard. I love listening to him.
The fact that he did not apologize shows just how arrogant he is.
I was writing my comment, looked down and saw yours and rewrote my. It literally started, "The fact that he didn't apologize just show.." LOL Great minds!
I am flabbergasted he didn't though.
No matter how you look at this... which side...
The defendant knew... he was a fool as much as his defense attorney was.
racist perhaps?
how do you know he didn’t apologize? he didn’t have to do it at the podium. he could have already offered one.
@@theothersongsonthealbum2598He didn’t or Judge would have referenced it
When Judge Simpson is upset, love how the Sheriff is also upset. His respect for the judge is clear.
I am FLABBERGASTED that he didn't apologize right out of the gate. That just tells you he feels like he did nothing wrong despite the judge telling him to his face on the record he has never been insulted like that in A QUARTER OF A CENTURY! Wow...
Simpson is so great! No, the def. atty didn’t apologize…and judge continued fairly, rationally, and following the law….NOT his feelings about the atty or client. He is what the legal system can be when everything works the way it should!! BRAVO 👏👏
Love this guy - no nonsense. America needs more guys like Judge Simpson.
He’s awesome…only complaint is he adjourns cases too much
google him and you may think otherwise
@@theothersongsonthealbum2598truu
I don't love how he handles landlord tenant cases all the time... but overall - yeah, I agree. He's so honorable.
Amen to that!
“ I do not make my decisions out of anger.”
Such wisdom
The Defense Attorney owes an apology to Judge Simpson. No respect!
To be fair his first priority is to his client and not the court. He is working his tail off for his client. I’d want him as a lawyer. With that being said he is pissing off the court at his own peril.
@@blainedavid9115 Making statements that unnecessarily draw the ire of the Court does not serve the interests of any client. You should for sure NOT want this guy as your lawyer.
What should he apologize for? Defending his client? You show respect to the process not the Man.
Absolutely.
@@TommyEsquire Exactly. This guy is a train wreck of a lawyer. This is like the 3rd or 4th time, that I've seen this guy pull a similar stunt in front of Judge Simpson. He can't control his mouth or his emotions. Outright accusing the court of bias and deliberately penalizing defendants, ON THE RECORD? Judge would have been well within his rights, to slap him with a contempt charge - but as he said, he didn't want to penalize the defendant, for his attorney's poor behavior.
The defense attorney step in it almost immediately.
def att: "He has no criminal history & this only happened because he was intoxicated."
Judge; " he was driving"
def. att.: "no one proved he was intoxicated"
Completely agree. That lawyer should’ve begun with an apology.
When Judge S says "Go ahead, " it means stop while you are behind
I would have fined him $1000 for contempt for accusing the Judge of bias. That is totally contemptuous.
That lawyer has “NO RESPECT” for the court.
Defense failing to lead with an apology is unprofessional.
Wow, nice work judge. Defense attorney you forgot to give the judge something. He will not forget that.
And Judges have very long memories ………
Defense attorney didn't start with an apology???
Arrogant & can't read the room.
You have no idea if he apologized
Maybe he was just hoping he'd forget it happened. Ha ha.
@@joshuawidener8407Not on the record, he didn’t. He absolutely should have apologized on the record.
@@karenneill9109 that's childish. He doesn't have to do it on the record and shouldn't. That's not particularly professional putting personal things in the record.
@@joshuawidener8407he acted a fool on the record so he certainly should have apologized to the court on the record.
Some lawyers are so disrespectful 😡
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This is what integrity looks like. He could've made his client pay, I've seen it happen. Judge Simpson is a great judge and I wish more were like him
"Calm down" is one of the least effective phrases I know of.
Exactly...
CALM DOWN!
@@Anthro777 hold my beer
It really is shocking that an apology was not immediately forthcoming.
It's not just you, Squishy. An apology is due.
The lawyers has ZERO situational awareness pertaining to the court.
I would have FIRED that lawyer before I stepped foot in that Court again
Sometimes you can't unless first receiving permission from the court to dismiss the lawyer from the case and have new representation submit notice of substitution of council
@@0sleepninja0 And anyway this client does not exactly have a history of making solid life decisions..
Thank you so much for the follow up. Can’t believe the defense attorney did not apologize for his actions from the day before. But in true Judge Simpson fashion, he moved on impeccably.
You have no idea if he apologized or not
@@joshuawidener8407of course he didn’t.

He accused the court of bias on the record so he should apologize to the court on the record. He did not.
@@SteffieDee46 no, he shouldn't. The court isn't the place to deal with squabbles like that. Grow up
I’d be so embarrassed if I were a magistrate and Judge Simpson declared a decision I made regarding bond conditions as “abuse of discretion.”
There’s been a lot of those lately for magistrate fink. Almost every bond reconsideration hearing is about a bond that she set 🤦♀️
I saw an episode where she gave James Johnson no bond, when everyone else had some high ones
@@heyitsMDtrue
@@Ittheyzezermeowpurrwow… that’s very odd
Dude...the audacity of that attorney! he completely insulted Judge Simpson, didn't apologize, then at the end thanks the judge and looks on expectantly as if he expects the judge to be nice to him. I hope he realized how badly he's messed up. I doubt it, but I hope so.
or the judge is just a judge it happened no apology needed. Move on. holding grudges is stupid.
I think this is the 3rd or 4th time, that I've seen this same attorney act the fool and draw Judge Simpson's ire.
To keep repeatedly fouling up in front of the court like this, the man is not only unprofessional, but also very "slow on the uptake" as well. I'd go so far as to say, by his demeanor, personality, and conduct, he's simply just not suited to be an attorney.
I wonder how many more "screw-ups" Judge Simpson is going to allow, before he gets so fed up he recommends sanctions against Mr Bennett - or at the least slaps him with contempt.
Remember, the atty may be a public defender. Overworked and underpaid, case load may be 25-50.
he needs to retire/find another job, perhaps he has a drug/alcohol issue or dementia, regardless other attorneys need to bring his behavior to the bar
Most reputable attorneys, would have recognized that His Honor asking the attorney “Is there anything else” was…an opportunity to apology, if not a not-so-subtle hint.
let me find out simpson locked up a attorney 😅😂 that would be epic!
have a great weekend squish!
My God listening to this yesterday in real time on the docket stopped me in my tracks. I listen to his dockets all the time in my air pod (I'm a civil def lit paralegal) because I learn a lot and THIS was so wild I set my alarm to watch the second half today. The pure fact that this attorney did not immediately start by apologizing is disgraceful the way Judge Simpson just quietly walked out of the court room staring. This defense attorney down was perfect.
Thank you Squishy!!!!
Why didn't he apologize to the court? I really hope the Judge files a complaint
You have no clue if he apologized
@@joshuawidener8407His apology should be made as public as his disrespect was..
@@JayBee1212 that's childish
Well, if he’s going to make such a defamatory, accusatory, statement about the Judge and the court on the record, it’s not unreasonable to suggest that he either recant or apologize on the record, especially for his own reputation.
@@joshuawidener8407we do know that he didn’t apologize at the time of this video. It would have been prudent to apologize at any time up to or at the beginning of the second hearing.
The attorney's offense was on the record. His first action on the record now should have been to apologize to the court, *on the record.* An apology should be at least as public and notable as the offense. A public loud abusive act isn't atoned for by a quiet private apology... even assuming that there was any apology at all.
This was so good. I just can't believe the attorney didn't apologize to Judge Simpson!
I can’t believe the lawyer didn’t apologize
11:40 "Does she have to keep moving?" - get 'em, Judge!
Such a blatant demonstration of lack of integrity that the lawyer never apologized to the judge on the record. I sincerely hope he did so privately as Judge Simpson definitely deserves that respect!!
FIRST thing as defense attorney I would have done...
Apologized to the court!!!
What a jerk lawyer!
What does this guy not understand about "license revoked"? He's not supposed to be driving - sober, drunk, daytime, nighttime, happy, sad, etc. etc. He's not supposed to be driving - period.
Oh, boy! Part 2! Thanks Gardener. Warming up a cuppa and settling in.
WOW! The defense lawyer has no class, not even a hint of apology for what he implied yesterday 🤬 Not even his assistant will not apologize 🤬
If I were this defendant, I would be asking for a continuance in order to find new council.
That defense attorney is sleazy with how he is essentially blaming the victim and minimizing his defendant’s actions. I need to go take a shower.
That’s his job.
@@DIEGOSHAYBut he does such a bad job of it. We say his actions on two days in this. Court. And with what I saw, I wouldn't want him representing me in court. Such a terrible court presence he has.

The court should be respected at all times. Simpson has used his position as chief judge inappropriately to try and get a family member off. He had to work hard to stay a judge. Even a judge can have a skeleton in his closet, and I'm sure that would maybe change the only to something less final.
@@DaleDixWould have to see facts on that. Find it really hard to believe.
@Grace-tc1lq google Judge Simpson judicial misconduct case. He was suspended by the Michigan Supreme court in July 2017 for 9 months without pay and fined

Thanks for the follow up. I was hoping you’d remember for us!!!
No apology?? Really??? How unprofessional. And his client is what I refer to as a scofflaw. He's willfully violating his DL restrictions, (allegedly) assaulted a woman and who knows what else. His story is definitely sus.
I don't like to judge by appearance but that goofy looking schlub nodding along as if his attorney is a legal genius says it all.
It's like his attorney couldn't find a sign language interpreter so had to go with a wife beating mime artist.
God Bless you judge Simpson.
If falsely accusing the judge of judicial misconduct (which being biased would be) doesn’t get you a contempt sanction I don’t know what will.
Judge Simpson is incredibly generous with mercy in this instance because if I’m doing my job as good as Judge Simpson and some schmuck comes in and falsely accusing me of bias you better believe I’m gonna give him a sanction.
That lawyer needs to go take a class on court decorum and what real bias looks like because JS is as far from biased as any judge can get.
The defence attorney needs to apologise to judge Simposon the court and his client, in trying to argue for his client he got ahead of his skies and insulted the court in a way that requires some form of sanction.
100% john!
Attorney made this lovely Judge so irate he adjourned the case for a day. Then, his Clerk annoyed the Judge by constantly moving to hand Att stuff....and when questioned by Judge....not one of them apologised? Yeah...this Firms future isn't looking bright at all

Thanks for the follow-up. I love follow-ups and imagine most others do too. ♥ Also the closed captions help a lot.
Yesterday the defense attorney was accusing the victim of being intoxicated maybe. Today he is admitting his client was intoxicated. He does not know when to stop talking.
When the judge asked “Does she have to keep moving?” Or I my words: lady, sit down!!! Finally!
Seriously scrwed up not apologizing.
Well that didn't work out too well for the defendant. Having worked in and out of the courts and apology would have been the first thing.Any respectable attorney would have done.
And that’s the whole point - any respectable attorney - no one standing at the podium fit that description.
No apologies, just ignored the incident? How disrespectful of the court and Judge Simpson. He is one of the fairest, most beloved of judges and I feel so badly he was treated this way by an attorney of all people.
I was #2 to like this video. I've been Waiting on pins and needles for this update!!!! Thank you Squishy!!!!!!!!
Every person in MI should see this so no one hires that POS attorney again. He’s the reason as lawyer jokes exist. Love the commentary today!
Thank you for Part 2!
"No soup for you!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am so glad that we are able to watch actual court cases. These crooked attorneys and judges should be exposed and held accountable. Judge Simpson and Judge Boyd in Texas are my favorites. Now, this attorney should be held in contempt, in my opinion, for being so disrespectful and he shouldn't get away with his actions. He must be making big bucks representing this defendant to act this way.
The defendant (whether innocent or guilty) should have fired his lawyer the first time he insulted the court.
There are plenty of cases where someone will commit an offence and the friends or neighbours will say ‘he was such a nice guy, I never thought he’d do something like this’. Furthermore, he’s an alcoholic, so perhaps while sober he’s the nicest guy in the world, but it sounds like he drank on this night and that’s when he becomes abusive. I doubt it’s the first time this has happened and of course the victim feels guilty because she’s probably been coercively controlled to believe it’s her fault, evidenced by her statement in the letter or on Facebook ‘I know you only did it because I…’ I believe she was trying to keep his keys away from him because he wasn’t supposed to be driving.
I think if I was the defendant , I would have expressed my sincere apologies to Judge Simpson on behalf of my attorney who clearly is of the mind set he’s superior to a well respected fair minded judge , regardless of sentencing outcome
You know when judge Simpson starts blinking really fast you are screwed 🎉
Oh goodie two drunks on the road instead of one. Has anyone heard of a taxi?
And Lyft or Uber...😂
Wow.... I've never seen a defence attorney or any attorney act like this towards judge Simpson. I laugh also at some of the excuses the defence comes up with. That was one of the worst I've heard. Also you can just tell that this guy just doesn't care about the law.
Thank you old squishy gardener, I've been waiting for this!
I noticed the lawyer didn't apologize to the court!😡
No apology?! I would have grovelled. Wow, this guy is a piece of work.
This lawyer is awfully casual with his stance and address of the court. Standing aside, legs crossed, leaning on the podium to begin.
Q: When is it OK to drive without a license?
A: NEVER!!!
"Telling her to calm down actually escalated the situation..."
Well, the defense attorney said at least one believable thing here. 😏
That attorney should have apologized to both his client and the judge for the stank he raised in court.
Old simmo is such professional after the previous interaction. to come back today and carry himself the way he did just wow what a guy
The irony is that this judge would never talk to a prosecutor like this.
The defendant looks more ashamed at his choice of attorney than for what he did :).
Man, I’d find myself a new attorney ASAP!
I love your videos. I love that you give us a heads up and I will watch all ads if it helps you! Thank you.
His attorney just said, he was drinking, and shouldn't have been. Now it's an allegation. That guy is worse than, I have to be nice, dumb. He followed her home. She's driving drunk, and he knows she's drunk
