      I don't think he's laughing. It's sort of a tick. But he really needs to learn how to read expressions and respond accordingly. He took the wrong tone from the very beginning. The bond was revoked already. You need to be apologetic and persuasive and appeal to the judge. Why was he adopting a trial stance. The charges were serious. He seemed to minimialize them as if the judge was in on his old boys club. And he needs to learn how to apologize. He must have spoken 10 sentences before he apologized and then went on to trying to persuade the judge to change his mind about the bond as if the judge accepted his apology. If I were the defendant, I would be shitting bricks about now.
      By the way, I call BS on his excuse. Notice in the beginning when the prosecution said they didn't know where the defendant was, and see the way he said, "he's here" like he knew it would be a surprise.

      @@branchcovidian2001 His "reasonable" put his client back behind bars, and almost got himself sanctioned to boot. You don't jabber about witnesses at a bond hearing, ever. That was not "good" defense lawyering. It was outright stupid. Good lawyers know what is appropriate, and what is not, in court and out. They also don't verbally assault or defame the prosecution without sound evidence to support such an attack. They also know not to advise clients regarding criminal behaviour, other than to say, "don't."

      I don't think he did tell his cient that. I think that was a spur of the moment lie to 'win the case' at hand and then immediately realised that he's destroyed his career for one case and one defendent. He's desperately trying to back out of it without admitting he lied, which would be just as sanctionable.

      They aren't stuck with what they get.Which is good...they should have that right.

      @greenman6141 Рік тому +4

      @@JodyOwen-we6oo As I just responded to someone else...people are not forced to stay with a court appointed attorney.
      I'll repeat what I wrote: - using as examples cases that are well known in the media..so people with have familiarity with them.
      For example, there is a woman in Florida who has been in jail, awaiting trial, for over 3 years. Her attorneys, because we are talking very much about the plural, are court appointed. She has been through 6 sets of them, and the 6th is on breaking ice.
      People are not forced to accept the attorneys that a court appoints, just as attorneys are not forced to stay with a client appointed to them. Which is right. Certainly someone in a position as vulnerable as a defendant without resources should not be wholly without say in who and how they are represented in court.
      Though it is also true that sometimes a court will not permit an attorney to dump a client (eg Kurt Nurmi trying to sluff off Jodie Arias) or a client to sack an attorney (eg Jodi Arias trying to get rid of Kurt Nurmi...a year later).
      A working relationship has to exist, and overwhelmingly involves a sympathy in style and manner.
      Go to court sometime to watch. Blustery bullshitting attorneys often appear to be the sibling of a blustering bullshitting client. Soft spoken attorneys don't usually last with clients who believe shouting is a good idea.
      Look at Trump and his bench of creatures. They are all completely at ease with lying on national television. That is NOT something that the vast majority of reputable attorneys would do. People have styles....
      You, for example, rely wholly on trying to insult me and overblown vocabulary, and you are very angry, very angry with someone you've never met, never spoken to. Someone who you are attempting to bully ...or trying to impress other people with your shouty response...without ever checking to see whether: you dolt...I AM A FRIGGING ATTORNEY.

      @@jakemoeller7850 they have a witness that's not there, supposed messages that they don't have copies of, etc.., But again, I was more referring to personal experience of bonds being revoked over crap, my employee had a no contact, the girl claimed he violated it, on her word the arrested him, he sits in jail for 5months til his lawyer finally presented video of him at a restaurant at the supposed time he was beating on the door. I had a friend who's girlfriend called the court and said her boyfriend was drinking and getting high when he had a court order to remain sober, bond was revoked yet 3 months later in court the urinalysis they tool on his arrests showed he hadn't done anything. I was more referring to the fact they let this prick out facing several charges and some serious, he's in court as he should be, and they're throwing a hissy fit over him not turning himself in. Every day people jump bail, I've been one of them, yet this kid is there, but we still get 10 min of how the judge is just so angry and so shocked and the defense attorney "shouldn't do that right now", "I just can't believe it", "we need to investigate", I mean come on, it's pathetic.

    In Calif. domestic violence cases, the victim does not have anything to do with pressing charges, just the prosecutor. Also, the victim is not required to attend court for any reason, it's completely taken out of their hands. And rightfully so. Too many times abusers will continue to abuse their victim trying to get them to drop charges.
