Which is the BETTER Hot Hatch to BUY? 2020 Hyundai Veloster N or Veloster Turbo?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 жов 2019
- The Hyundai Veloster is that 3-door hatchback that has lacked power and performance, UNTIL NOW. The Veloster N is packing a powerful punch power wise. Under the hood the 2.0L inline-4 produces 275 HP & mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Veloster Turbo Ultimate has more amenities and options available to fit your specific driving needs. Even though they both Velosters are the same price, which is the better BUY?

If Honda had made this car and called it the CRX no one would question it and the lots would be sold out.
You are so very right Andrew!
Andrew Johnson the crx is way better looking in my opinion though
I agree man that will be a blow out sale
WORD!
YES ive always told my friends i could see it as the new civic eg hatch if honda were to ever do that lol . always reminded me of it cause of the egg shape (more so the 1st gen veloster) crx also but they made the crz already.
I’m the type of weird that would prefer a three-door over a two door or a four-door because it’s unique.
Me too. I thought that "compromise" was brilliant. Brilliant.
Buying a N very soon and I'm super stoked on it.
Such an amazing car for the money
Congrats! You are going to love it!
You will LOVE IT!
You'll love it. Got mine about 2 weeks ago and can't stop smiling behind the wheel.
I got mine 2 months ago. I'm loving every minute of it.
If the DCT N was out I would have gotten it over my GTI. The GTI does have way more aftermarket support. Burger does have a piggy back for the N that spices it up.
In my opinion this is the most underrated car brand in the industry! They make amazing cars that are extremely reliable! Great review I thoroughly enjoyed it👍👍👍
I really appreciate you letting me share it with you Victor!
Bro. Trust me. When Hyundai start selling alot. These cars ain't gonna be cheap
@@fakedazzleful They are just cheap because the interior quality is also cheap
@@fooball24H What are you talking about? A I30 is just a few K less then a Civic which has at least good soft plastic and hard like the Hyundai. I am not comparing this with a 1 series or A class thats dumb since those are 'premium' cars which prob you 'American sheep' doesnt understand. The only most overpriced cars are from the American brands those have cheap/bad looking interiors too.
@@fakedazzleful Hyundai-Kia is already world's 5th largest automaker. Surpassed ford and Honda.
Got an N from copart because they have been going for cheap. Compared to everything else I was looking at (most with lower cash value) these had a history of going for 2k-6k less. Was exclusively shopping for manuals, and got a repairable rear ended one with ~30k miles for 7k.
Koreans realy hit the spot when Hyndai and Kia bought each other stocks and started colaborating. The quality of the cars realy went up i think that now they are even better than some Japanese manifactures like Nissan and Mitsubishi.
You got that right, nissan is crap since renault took over. Mitsubishi is more or less dead.
@@eminye1 Suzuki are doing great and the cars cost the same price as Kia, had small engines and great fuel economy but they are not in the US i think. They are also the only "small" Japanese company that is still independet.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
@@ristekostadinov2820 Yeah Suzuki is building nice little cars and Suv but they will never build a car like this.
The most sporty they go is the Swift Sport and that is a small category little car and is not that fast ether although is fun to drive.
Mazda is doing well also from the Japanese manufacturers.
And Toyota is fine too but they are dropping in quality lately.
Literally everything in Asia was going under back in the late 90s. Korea the country itself almost declared bankruptcy. Hyundai came around and saved Kia from collapsing (since then Hyundai owns about 1/3 of Kia) during the crisis. Hyundai also went through major restructuring in order to survive too. New boss, new management throughout. That's why you started seeing major changes in their products in the 2010s.
Honestly this is one of the best veloster reviews i’ve seen
Thanks Johhny! That really means a lot!
Raiti's Rides no problem thanks for the video 👍
Got an N few days ago! Your reviews definitely pushed me to highly consider it!! Keep it up
I just drove the N last Monday and it was absolutely exhilarating ! Incredible performance and technology for the price . I’ll definitely be looking to purchase one right after Christmas .
you end up buying one?
Suspense is killing me, did you end up buying one?
Still waiting to find out
Joe got so good at this he's reviewing 2 cars at once! Awesome review both Velosters are great options against the competition given their price points.
As someone who lives in the Clearwater area it is refreshing to see such thorough reviews of reasonably priced cars
Thank you for making this vid I can’t get enough of the veloster N!
No problem Eric! I am so glad that you liked it!
Damn that "N" looks beautiful in that color combo
n... 😂
Probably one of the best hot hatches on the market today 👍 Hyundai has definitely been stepping up their game lately 💯
I totally agree with you!
Aye ramdog
I'd say it is the best one! I mean a focus RS might be better in some ways but 13k more! And it's not even available new anymore. So what other one is better for $27500?
@@rickya9593 fiesta st or focus st?
@@rickya9593VN is 30-35k still.
I’ve got a 2019 Veloster Turbo. I absolutely love my car. Put a full magnaflow catback exhaust on it as well and its pretty dang quick 👍🏼
The borla s type exhaust sounds really good on the turbo version too tbh more pops and crackles though tbh and a lot louder then the magnaflow lowkey wish I would have gotten the magnaflow though just because it’s a bit more timid then my current set up
The N is definitely a top contender for a new daily for me, always enjoy seeing what you have to say Joe!
I needed this review , I haven't finished it yet , I know it's gonna be great , have a great night/rest of your week
I am so happy that I could bring it to you!
@@RaitisRides I might have asked but will they make the n with paddles ?
Gabriel Scarretta as of right now the answer is no.
@@RaitisRides ok, thank you!
Thank you very much for this vid Joe, a much welcomed surprise for sure!
You are so very welcome Derek!
That N is on the short list for me as my Accord 2.0T 6 Speed is up next year. I want that Blue color. Hyundai is doing it up right.
Another good review Joe, I would pay the extra money for the N, sounds awesome, Hyundai has come a long way, take care brother !
Thanks Tony for letting me share it with you!
Wow! Two reviews for the price of one. Those mismatched door panels on the turbo are weird. If I were a young buyer I’d have to pick the N. The older me would pick the turbo automatic. Well done Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
It's like a Veloster BOGO! ;-) I think you hit the nail on the head.
Nice review man i really appreciated that specially when you were enjoying that velosterN that sounds so good
Youa re so very welcome! Thanks for letting me share it with you!
I remember driving this car back in 2018, before they hit dealers...and I have to say, I am looking into the Veloster N.. Love the car..
I think the black veloster N looks awesome!
I totally agree with you!
Hey Joe I test drove that 20 Turbo and it was fun. They even gave is a bit more room inside the 2017 was so tight. Thanks. Good review!
I am so glad that you liked this one! Youare so very right!
Raiti's Rides, I've started watching several of your reviews. They're great, and this is one of the best. There's one thing missing though...I have no idea where I can store my M&M's in either of these vehicles!
Hey what's up guys its THE MAN WHO CAN SEE THE FUTURE! You did it again Joe! Always knowing what I like before I know.
I just bought the 2020 Veloster N with the performance package and I love it!! I had the 2019 Veloster R-spec which I loved too but I had to try the N. There are minor things I which the N has that my R-spec had like the removable head rest in the back seats, on the N you can't remove the head rest and the reason I removed mine on the R-spec it's because it gives you more visibility in the small back window. I also liked the seats color line on the R-spec and of course that little silly race flag on the dashboard that the N doesn't have. I also wish the N will come on the Thunder Gray like the R-spec but there is no gray color on the N so I went with the black color.
The R-spec stick shift, it's all metal that on very hot days you can't even touch it, I always had to put a sock on it so I can drive it. I will still have to see if this happens with the N
Other than this silly things the N it's awesome, the driving feel smother and more quite than the R-spec and of course the performance package on the N makes it an awesome car.
When I bought the R-spec I always had that feeling that I should have gotten an N instead so I did it this time and what a great choice
Thanks for sharing that great input from your experienece!
I am interested to know how you feel today about the N? Are you still happy with it? How is the daily ride compared to the R Spec? And did I understand that the new N is quieter than the R Spec was?
@@t.k.morris yah, I was hoping for an update as well. I really hope it's a manual!
So other then horsepower and looks their pretty much the same. As I'm trying to decide. Could I get N hp with a turbo?
@@t.k.morris Hi, I know late reply sorry. After two years I’m still driving the N and I still love it. Compare with the R-Spec well the N it’s a faster drive plus it doesn’t have the fake turbo sound that the R-Spec has, with the N is a real turbo sound :), you can also choose how you want the N to ride, smooth or not, quiet or not and you select that on the different settings the N has, I usually drive it on Custom
Iv had my N for a few months and im in love. Its actually way better than any review iv seen. If anyone is getting one, be stoked. Its the best of both worlds, I used mine as my daily driver and its so smooth and roomy, then i can take it to the auto cross and kick some serious ass. Its perfect. Im so happy.
Congrats Sarah! Thanks for the compliment and I think you are so very right. What color did you get?
@@RaitisRides The best color there is! Performance Blue
I’m totally getting the Veloster N it looks cool! Just need a little practical on the manual and this is the car to start!
Never really liked small cars other than the old school civic hatches but I've like this car since its introduction and that N model sounds beautiful not to mention how fast is it at that weight. Another great review.
Joe im ordering my N this weekend, im so excited! I haven't even driven one yet because the dealership im buying from hasn't had any yet so its great to get your input.
Paul why would you order one if you haven’t driven it? It’s an amazing car but I’d have to drive it before buying one 😅
Congrats Paul! You are going to love it! I really appreciate you saying that!
It's good I promise!
@@codymurphyfit9389 There's enough content out there showing how amazing of a car it is and i got to sit in one and feel it out at least. I highly doubt there's going to be anything to be disappointed about.
Very informative and professional review as always Raiti👌
Mandatory Sunroof delete hurts bad but other than that N is the obvious choice. No power seats for $30K is lame as well. But this N does so many things right that I can get over it’s shortcomings.
Very good points Philip!
Awesome review Joe! This ones ur best yet!😁
Thanks for saying that! It really means a lot!
Nice review! Joe, owning a FiST, you know which one I would have to have. Veloster N all the way! I hope they offer it in brighter metallic colors in the future as mine is bright metallic neon green.
To be fair, yesterday i was wondering when will the Veloster N review pop out on your channel ;P Such a nice surprise i guess haha. Great vid!
I am glad that I could deliver for you!
I actually drove and enjoyed both the same day..... but I ended up picking the veloster N! But I got to tell you I would have been happy with either!
Gotta Love the new N!!!! ❤️ I was with Hyundai when they came out with the Veloster in 2012. What a let down, however since they redesigned it with independent rear suspension and put it on the Elantra Sport platform it really came alive!!! The Accent was a nice little car but it wasn’t rite to use as a base for the Veloster. My wife has a 2015 Elantra Limited and it has been trouble free since day one. All I have done (besides oil changes, tire rotations) is new tires, front breaks and that’s it. Not one warranty issue. Love my Hyundai! I may have to pick me up an N next year when I get a new car. Thanks for your report Joe!! 👍🏻
I'd get the N just for the exhaust sound and the pops
AGREED!
I got the N for the exhaust sound and the pops 😂
Getting an aftermarket exhaust for the veloster turbo gives you sound and pops all day
Best review so far you make me Buy a Veloster N !
Thanks Jess! I totally agree with you!
I have the 2019 veloster turbo in black and love it definitely will get up and go
I have a veloster 2.0 premium as my daily driver. If i'm going for the fun factor, I would definitely learn to drive stick and buy an N.
Only if I could get a Veloster N... one day it will happen.
You can do it!
I'm pretty sure Joe wants the N as his daily driver I know I would. Keep up the great work. I'm holding out for the Kona N
That would be a blast!
He has an focus rs. Probably spends all it’s time in the shop lol.
If only the N could come with the interior of that Turbo trim it would be perfect.
That is a good point!
I had a Honda Dealership special order Civic R seats in an Accord, so maybe that’s possible.
Amazing fricking review Joe I'm so glad. Personally Joe I don't like any of the Hyundai Sedans believe or not I'm just not a fan of the sedans, coupes, hatchbacks, hybrids, etc.... Overall great review. Would love to see the All New Hyundai Tucson N when they hit the Dealership's fresh from the trucks whenever they r released. Thanks Joe.
Thanks for always letting me share these with you!
@@RaitisRides U bet brother
I have that exact "sunset orange" veloster turbo ultimate but a 2019. absolutely love it. surprisingly roomy for being a small hatch
I love my 20 Veloster 1.6T Ult. DCT , such a great drive, whith amazing features. Recently got my ceramic tint 15% not too much but looks clean. As well just ordered Injen SP Cold Air Intake System (Black) - SP1342BLK for more rumble and hisses. First new car I've bought and the bank doesn't have the pinks .. i do.. I have 0 regrets after 2 years and 38kmiles. Amazing vehicle that is fuel efficient and fast when needed. They dont make them anymore so get it while u can.. mIINE WAS 28k brand new and went up to 32.5k even after 5k miles and a year (crazy wholesale market). Now im making it a sporty sleeper. Great video!
I have a 2019 VN performance pack and have seriously enjoyed it. 15,000+ miles and counting.
I appreciate you sharing your input and perspective! Thank you so much for watching!
I love this car! It reminds me of my way back when 2005 SRT-4.
Ooo! I’ve been looking for a nice hatchback but most of them are on the slower side. I’m definitely checking this one out!
Is this an extremely early Christmas present? A review of an otherwise underrated car?
Merry Christmas! :-)
@@RaitisRides Have you heard anymore if the N that you showed at the car show will make its way into production or was that a custom one off thanks.
I would hardly say that the VN is underrated. It literally won PCOTY
Great job in your review
Thanks for saying that!
"veloster N is easy to drive" meanwhile there is me stalling the thing 6 times before I can get it out of the slightly sloped parking space...
also I am almost 7ft tall so this car is a little tight for me but still manageable without the sunroof. I am really happy that this car still offers 3 pedals in 2020
Robert PL9501 yeah too bad the seat doesn’t go down any further and the clutch is super sensitive. I can hardly drive mine when my shoes are wet because they catch on the mat.
Great review! Thanks
Great review!!!
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
I’m in a 2005 Chevy Cobalt SS SC I bought new. In 2012 my wife got a brand new Elantra GT that I’ve been very impressed with. We recently had it serviced and while there I sat in a new Veloster N.
I’ve still got to test drive it, but I’m pretty sure after 15 years I’ve finally found my replacement car. It’s just so weird I can’t help but love it, just like my SS Supercharged.
I totally get that feeling! You have a very cool Cobalt!
It’s such a Frankenstein. Italian five speed transmission, SAAB stamps all over the engine, plus those aluminum A-arms up front, that awesome 7-speaker Pioneer sound system, and of course the factory Autometer boost gauge in the A-pillar. My kids love riding in it, but I think they’ll like the Veloster even more.
The fact that I can soon afford (and most people reasonably) is mind blowing, type of shit that just makes you smile
Thanks for the great review. I'd be interested on your thoughts about the driving dynamics between the R-Spec and the N.
I had never driven a manual car before I test drove the Veloster N. Stalled it twice in the drive. I guess I did pretty good.
It's a learning process no big deal! You can do it man!
Be careful Joe doing 70 in a 35. We care about you brother.
Thanks my friend. I promise I did it as safe as possible.
The perfect comparison video wow!
Raiti no lie the one liners are fire 🔥
Thanks Daniel for letting bring the heat!
Good review, for the price and warranty, good cars.
Thanks for saying that! It really means a lot!
We bought the 2020 veloster n with performance package in the racing red from the new port richey Hyundai in July. By far I think the red is the best color choice. Sorry we bought it before u could review it lol
I'm going N! That thing is awesome!
It's nice to see you enjoy the sound. I'm still keeping my Mustang ;-)
I know you love that Mustang!
You're the man Sir.
Very good review thanks you
Thank you! You are so very welcome!
I have a '20 Veloster Spec R. It's pretty quick, agile, and set up so the controls are all easy to reach. The clutch is really easy, not light, just smooth and predictable. Some clutches require varying degrees of force on the path down and back. I hate those, because I always end up misjudging how much foot pressure I need and popping the clutch, which causes the car to jerk around. The gears have a wide range, so traffic isn't terrible, but stop-and-crawl is every bit the PITA you'd expect with a manual. Still, I'd rather deal with that annoyance and have something really fun to drive than not.
Storage capacity is surprisingly large. I got a whole queen bed and frame plus some some other stuff from Ikea in it and was able to close the hatch. It's missing a few amenities my Optima has that I'd like, such as automatic climate control, but that's a minor thing. Otherwise, my only real complaint is that the shift indicator is set way too low. The car wants me to shift around 2k rpm and if I follow its recommendations, the engine really bogs. Under normal driving, I shift it around 3.5k and that works fine for me.
i want this to be my very first car
Cool comparison, F1 cars have the triangle "brake light" to show when their conserving and saving electricity, not for braking or in fog.
Love the video sir ✌🤞🤞🤞😀
great video, thank you so much
You are so very welcome!
If looks are important then you will buy the turbo. It’s beautiful. I personally wouldn’t zonk anything on that beautiful vehicle. If performance is more important to you then you purchase the ‘N’. Great video once again!! We’re not worthy.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
OK I changed my mind I want the ultimate like my wife does! Too much stuff missing out at the end model I realize it’s more of a racing model than the ultimate but I like my creature comforts
Depends what kinda driving u do. If u just a cruiser u don't need the N model but sacrifice sum gas mileage & get WAY more performance & LSD better handling & 1 of the baddest hot hatches around lol
You hit the nail on the head George!
You said 201hp and 295lbft of torque for the 1.6T. Torque is incorrect but you probably know by now! Great comparison thank you!
I’m 95% sure I’m going with the N in black by Xmas. Price & warranty not a bad deal at all!
I had a 2012 Veloster. It is the most deceptively roomy car I have ever owned.
My son is 6'5" and for in the back seat.
Tons of legroom up front.
I'm looking at the 2020 Turbo with DCT next. I'd get the stick but my wife has arthritis and can't drive a stick anymore.
Happy wife, happy life.
Having a third door seems bizarre you might as well put all 4 great review though liked the in depth insight
Nope, because the driver side door is huge which makes getting in and out way better. This definitely isn't a family car and that should go without saying.
Stil rocking my 2013 veloster turbo... I'm amazed they continued to make this weird car.
I'm right there with you with a 2015 Black Turbo. Thing is.i like.the more aggressive shape of the older Veloster.
I would definitely choose the Veloster N, just wish the pano sunroof was an option. Black with that red looks amazing. (Nissan called and wants their Nismo trim back) Just wonder if the OCD in me would ever get over the different design on each side of that car to make the 3rd door function.
Same here Wayne!
I bet the neighbors in that same neighborhood love you!!
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I appreciate you watching!
First car a 2017 veloster super fun affordable car and might trade in to keep the brand
Nice comparison. I am considering the 2021 Veloster R-Spec ($23,000) vs 2021 Veloster N ($33,000). I prefer the N but for $10k less I might get the R-Spec. I am not happy Hyundai increased the price of the N because now I am second guessing myself and comparing it to a Mustang GT 301a Manual ($36,000) which just complicates my decision making. The only downside of the Mustang is that I have had a 2017 model and sold it because I felt guilty spending so much money on fuel and being stuck in traffic and not really getting to enjoy all that power here in California moving at under 20 mph. Decisions, decisions, decisions. It is a great time to have options though. :)
Yeah I'm thinking about getting the R spec as a daily driver... good mpg and enough power to have fun with
You all should see the Korean version with the Alcon massive calipers and sick 19-in Wheels. Alcantara steering wheel and recaro style one piece buckets. Absolutely stunning car. Comes in DCT also... Course we didn't get it.
Hey what's happening Joel i♥️ the snap crackle and pop with the veloster N 🖐👍
Joe I love your videos just sub.
Do you think everyday driving is it worth getting the Turbo instead of the N (wet trans) just because they both have a 13 gal tank. Gas mileage is a bit important but I also live in FL so you know how hard it is to get on the entrance ramp of a Hwy and will the turbo get me on there fast enough, if not then I’ll go for the N.
I think I wet my pants when I heard the Veloster N exhaust. WOW is all I have to say...
It does sound oh so good!
If the Hyundai dealer doesn't try to rip you off then both are fine cars.
Give Rob a call they are good people there!
Have a 2010 Cobalt SS. The VN reminds me of its excellent price to performance ratio. Seriously considering picking one up. That 10 year warranty helps with some peace of mind. Thanks for the dual reviews!
Veloster N PP all the way. The anti lag and e-dif are just amazing.
I totally agree with you!
E diff or any lsd diff 4 that matter work great imo
George R The edif really helps on a nose heavy fwd car.
@@NvrchFotia I've have 8th 9th & 10th gen Si's & there just a mechanical limited-slip differential & they work perfectly good soon as I'm going thru a corner a little bit of gas & it turns in Sharp as hell I drove the performance version Veloster it didn't feel too much different than what the Civic did when you hit the gas mid-corner... The Veloster felt like it was much tighter in the steering but it was too rough of a ride for me for a daily driver that's why I stick with the Civic. + the Civic gets like 40 MPG & I have it tuned with exhaust. Civic is way more refined of a car in general. Veloster more of a race car. Not particularly what I'm looking for in a car
I'd say avoid the earlier models, I got the 2013 year, it was really just experimental car with that turbo engine and Hyundai had to upgrade several parts inside the engine, because there were plenty of engine failures. There were also a couple of recalls related to fuel delivery and ECM reprogramming. Also the ride was much harsher/worse than either of these cars. I had to downsize my wheels to 17s, just to get it acceptable on not so perfect roads.
That N is pretty hot. I have a GTI but I'm really liking how much more aggressive the N looks.
It is a fun car to drive!
Those pops and bangs sound good to bad they are fake coming from the speaker. LOL!
I am going to say you are being sarcastic.
I love the Veloster however the prices in Australia are a complete rip off. The turbo premium model we have, which is equivalent to the orange one being reviewed, is nearly $48k on the road!
I was looking at the base model with the 2 litre engine and 6 speed auto. No sat nav no digital radio no push button start , cheap looking full cloth trim. $36k on the road.
I can buy an i30 n line turbo hatch for the same price of $36k and get the turbo engine, full leather interior sat nav digital radio and much much more. Basically the exact same spec/equipment as the US turbo model reviewed here.
These velosters are not selling well in oz at all because of this.
They make you pay a huge premium (almost 10k more!) for the look, which is much better than the bland i30.
Regardless you'd have to be a fool to pay these prices for what you get in comparison to the i30.
Great car reviews Joe.
Keep up the good work. 😊
Great review as always. I really want to trade my 2014 Mazda 3 for the Veloster n, like right now! I'm 48, am I to old for this type of vehicle? 🙂
Never too old
Definitely not. This car will make even the blandest of commutes a blast. While forum demographics don't necessarily represent the real world, most of us owners on the forums are at least in our 30s. I think part of it is fewer younger people drive stick?
HELL NO you are not to old! Go get her!
AGREED!
I totally agree with you Zac!
Velostar Turbo N love the pops and crackles! I do not like the IPad infotainment. I would love to test drive this one!
