    No Brembo’s to keep the car at an attainable price. $28K for a proper hot hatch. Hyundai blew this one out of the park.

This dealership is not, they have 2, this one for 29k and another without performance pack for 26k, you should try to find a non greedy dealership, because they are privately owned, this dealership in video i live 3 miles from, and i looked at the N without the performance pack and there was no extra charges.

    Love, Love, Love this Turbo Hot Hatch from Hoonigan , Hoondai, Hyundai! As a Focus ST3 owner I really dig the fact that Hyundai will build a Manual Transmission car like this. Man is it light! 275hp. AWD would send me over the top and I would just have to go buy one today. That fact that it has a third (fourth) door for the backseat which is actually useable means the world to me. This thing is fun as Hell and practical. Ya can’t beat that. I don’t mind the sea of black interior at all. I love the styling inside and out. MSRP of $28K WOW if it’s true. I’m going to go to a Hyundai dealer and check out of they put a “rip off sticker” on this car with $2K worth of locking lug nuts and Scotchguard seats. I would refuse to pay for any of that nonsense. Fantastic review Joe! A half hour just flew by. I can’t believe how hard charging toward 50K SUB’s you are. Your moving at the speed of light. That would be 186K miles per second for you physics people out there...

    Joe is spot-on. I like mine a lot. This is definitely a car geared explicitly towards the driving enthusiast, and it is very clear that almost all of the money you spend on this car goes to performance-related features and designs. It drops many of the features you would find on other cars around this price range, and adds on performance features you often don't see on some cars costing $15,000 more.
    I am blown away that I was able to buy a car with this degree of performance capability, customizability, desirable driving features, and performance-related electronics for around $25.5k. The handling is insane...this thing was built for amateur motorsports usage and it is going to be an autocross machine. It has features like LED headlights, functional air intakes that actually cool the brakes, proximity entry/push-button start (with a special 'N' key fob to boot), --truly-- good OEM summer tires on both trims, the ability to adjust how the one-touch turn signals function, a killer instrument cluster, an adjustable lumbar support, an actually quick-responsive and functional infotainment system with CarPlay/Android Auto, a crazy good exhaust note for a 4-banger, a full track computer that can log data over a duration, a spectacularly-implemented driving position and manual transmission, and the ability to adjust the suspension stiffness, steering sharpness, throttle response/exhaust output, impressively good brakes for floaters, allowable TC oversteer, and rev-match aggressiveness (and on the PP model, adjustable exhaust valve function and LSD lock.) There are cars costing quite a bit more that don't have nearly this many features.
    Certainly, other features are less-desirable or lacking outright, and this really is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get design. The plastic interior is one...this interior has more plastic than many cars I owned from the late-1990s and early-2000s. It is really basic. The cloth used on the seats is plain and simple (though the comfort/support/bolstering is exceptional). There is only one power outlet (though two USBs). The car does not have: the ability to store garage door opener signals, heated seats/mirrors, auto dimming mirrors, power seats (other than lumbar), blind spot detection, auto-up/down passenger windows, and various other features that have become extremely common on even relatively less-expensive vehicles (and, for that matter, many features that the high-trim (non-N) Veloster offers.) They don't even offer this car with options other than the Performance Pack, which solely adds performance features. There is also the caveat that the three-door design is a love-hate situation, and four doors are often more desirable for those constantly transporting passengers. Ultimately, it is very clear that the money spent on this car has gone to its performance attributes and that the primary designer knew exactly what they wanted the end-product to be, and exactly who they were building this car for.
    So, if you are looking for a car that is insanely fun to drive and you prioritize the driving experience over non-performance features or high-end interiors, you should absolutely take one of these for a test drive.

    Joe, you are spot-on with this review. I had the chance to drive one yesterday...and to be honest, I'm thinking about trading in my STI for an N. Hyundai's decision to build an intermediate performance car between the WRX/ST/Si/GTI and the STI/RS/TypeR/Golf R is ingenious IMO. The car is an immense amount of fun, completely ready for amateur motorsports use out-of-the-box, but maintains a degree of civility that is exceptional.
    And other Makers are definitely in BIG trouble...this car does not feel like a first attempt at this segment. It feels like a car made by a Maker that's been dominating this segment for years and has a very good understanding of exactly what enthusiasts like. If this car sells well, I feel like Hyundai could pretty easily build a higher performance N variant that dethrones the CTR and RS.

      If you listen he said Hyundai said we won't get an AWD version just yet we'll have to wait "that's what the Hyundai representatives are saying." @ 6:35

    This car will be a big hit IMO, outside looks super clean, my big zonk will be the same you said, that interior man, doors panels look so bland and to much black, but I’m pretty sure the performance aspect of it will overcome that and that exhaust sound....geez...way better than a Type-R, I’ll love to test one for sure. Personally I've never even noticed the lack of amenities in this car because I bought it for driving enjoyment. IDK why anyone who has to have leather seats or a sunroof would even be here. Go get your automatic, loaded up econobox and be done with it, this isn't for you. Would also say that if you are looking for straight line performance, GTFO of here too. This car isn't even built for that. It's got what it needs to do the job it's intended for, why are you looking at a car like this if you don't know how to make turns? This has to be one of your longest test runs ever but you know what, that is OK. This will be our next car. Hyundai did so much right with this car it is amazing especially at this price point. They made all the right decisions with how to spend the money. It was a sad day when I had to let go of my Honda CRX I had from high school BUT knowing this Veloster N exists makes it all OK. In my mind, this, not the Honda Civic Type R is the true successor to the Honda CRX and unlike my old CRX, it has back seats. I'm not even going to talk about the CR-Z. Well done, Hyundai. Well done.

Don't want the blue paint and a black car with red exterior trim AND baby blue seatbelts, no those belts would drive me nuts. Just a quick comment about the Veloster N. I did a few local to me (New Jersey) web searches and I went to a few Hyundai dealer websites and I can not find this car anywhere. I have no doubt that this thing is going to be marked up thousands over MSRP by greedy dealers. I will do some more research and let you know what I come up with. Joe, are you saying that you can get one or more from the dealership that you have a relationship with? If so this might be a way for people around the country to order this car without dealership markup.

    Great review as always and thanks again Tom. One question to any mechanics or wrenchers in the audience, I heard that in an interview Albert Bierman said that the crackles and pops (aka the Rice Krispies) are a result of tuning the turbos to spool during shifts and not just because they sound cool. Does that make mechanical sense? I seem to recall some manufactures, like Jaguar, allowing extra fuel into the exhaust for the purpose of those rice krispy treats, but not for any performance reason. In any case, it is the most unexpectedly throaty exhaust I’ve heard from such a small car. It’s like the Rick Astley of hot hatches.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  5 років тому +1

      Mitsubishi is even worse. Ridding the recaro was bad enough and then getting rid of the car entirely.

      With the auto-rev match downshifting on the Veloster N it is better.

    Went to 3 Dealer's to compare price
    Honda type R $38,064
    Veloster N $37,465
    That's only $599.00 Difference.
    This is Ontario CA.
    Also noticed that Honda is willing lower the price compared to Hyundai.

    • @RaitisRides
      @RaitisRides  5 років тому +3

      That is crazy Daniel! Here in the USA there are dealers still marking the heck out of the Type Rs!

    • @PiroFyre
      @PiroFyre 5 років тому +1

      It sounds like the Hyundai dealership is marking up the Veloster N and I would not recommend buying into their markup. The MSRP of the Veloster N is $30k and they want to charge a $7k markup.
      The Honda dealership is also marking up the CTR too because the MSRP of those cars are $36k for the 2019 models. 2019 CTR models reached dealerships around October to November of last year so that dealer might have been sitting on it for a while now and are willing to let it go for MSRP.
      You live in one of the worse states for specialty cars like these. Those dealers over there are trying to get as much money as possible because they know what kind of car they have. You should've seen when the 2017 CTRs first came out. Dealers were marking them as far as $50k and people were buying them. One guy that wanted the Veloster N got fed up and bought one from Pennsylvania, flew to PA to sign paperwork, flew back to CA and had the car shipped back to CA. It sounds like a lot of work but he probably saved $3k doing all this compared to the what the dealers in CA were going to charge him. CA dealers is just a shitshow. Even I bought my Veloster N at MSRP of $30k and not a penny more.

      Thanks for the information,
      But I might wait a till October and see,
      If they lower the mark up.
      I think they would like to move them

    IDK why the things like the G-sensor dosen't record information, or at least hold it temporarily. As far as I could tell from my test drive, that information was only available in real time. Seems like a missed opportunity or overlooked element.
