How do you prevent distortion? I’ve tried shooting at 24mm and it just looks wrong, I have to shoot myself at at least 50mm before I think I “look good” and also have nice background blur. But then it’s kinda awkward to be that far away from the camera, especially in small room. Am I just over thinking it?

I can't get rid of a feeling that your face looks much narrower on screen than in life. Everything seems to play into this feeling. Portrait orientation, your natural slimness, vertical haircut and probably the camera settings and your distance from the camera. I hope my comment is not offensive, it's not about your look, it's about my perception only.

4k on the eos r6 may overheat and just stop your work. And for shorts 4k is overkill.
It’s bc shorts don’t accept 4k and only accept 1080p like tiktok and other platforms.

I believe you can also do your formating in post in PrPro and Davinchi Resolve. Those are the only 2 NLEs I use.
I'm still a little confused about what framerates to choose for recording, but why 24 instead of 30?
More natural since it has more motion blur , also movies are shot at 24fps too.

It's because 24 fps is the lowest fps an eye can see and still be smooth if he chose to use 60 fps the video would look a bit weirder
