For all those saying it’s a bad deal - Wicked good cupcakes has been acquired for 350 million dollars by Hickory Farms. They must be super happy that they didn’t have to give away any equity.
How that work for Kevin dose he still get $0.45c a jar or dose he get nothing??????
I was think keep all company a better deal if their going sell it
Yes now that begs the question what happens to that 45 cents per jar?
@@jaimhaas5170 The purchasing company will buy out Kevin’s royalty, paying him a multiple of their sales up front to get him out

Which means they sold a ton, meaning they lost tons of money.
The way Mark wanted to try some of Daymond's cupcake and he kept saying no 😂
He already had two himself
The way Mr. wonderful handed the cake down the line was hilarious.

And daymond no no
They went on to become one of Shark Tank's more successful stories. Got a great bakery, a spot at a mall and Kevin regularly promotes the product. plus they were able to repay the 75k soon after the show aired so good for them.
Someone else commented they later sold the company, I’m glad they were successful with their business. I live in MA and travel into Boston regularly, I wanna look up if they still have shops I could go to and try one of their cupcakes @
Reeallly!!!! That’s soo good to hear! After seeing this pitch I was like oh no they’re going bankrupt! So glad to hear the opposite
Still terrible, they would have done that without the deal.
@@mrhumble2937 Don't think so. The food business is very competative. It's always out with the old in with the new. If it wasn't for Kevin people would of forgotten and went on to the next piece of cake.
@@mrhumble2937 seriously. 45c in perpetuity for just $75k? Mr wonderful straight robbed them. Prob biggest robbery ive seen in the show. Look at marks reaction to them accepting that ridiculous deal

WGC was acquired by Hickory Farms for $14 million. Kevin was absolutely right when he said “I’m going to be very happy.”
Kevin’s deal was painful but he made these women millionaires.
YES I REASD THE COMPANY IS WORTH 14 MILLION.
Butttt Kevin had no equity, so he wouldn't have gotten paid if the company sold.
@@MAGAprincessHe still has his royalty deal with the new owners, and since they are able to produce way more he actually makes a lot more money on these cupcakes now. It was a situation where everyone won, the previous owners got paid millions for the business and Kevin still continues to make a lot off it.

Edit: Just saw the update. SHOCKED that they made it. But very happy for them!
Do you see even in 2022 there's hundreds of different cupcake shops in small large cities. Some national chains some Mom and pops. I don't think it's stopping anytime soon

I can only find two sources that even make mention of the price, one of which says it was an undisclosed value and the other which reports $15M. He Offered a Fixed Amount (Not percentage). The best move the Mother and Daughter can do is to add an additional $1.40 Mark-up for the Cupcakes. Which I don't think will hurt their business if they're gonna have good marketing and talk to people who can extend shelflife and give them Patent to be able to sell them at grocery stores, price clubs, and coffee shops.

Can't believe they countered with a royalty lol
Recently they sold the company at very high price but Kevin didn't get money because he don't have any equity in the business but he earns over 1 million from royalty
@@Asif-io6mh Not having equity doesn’t mean anything, in an acquisition deal the purchasing company will buy out Kevin’s royalty upfront. That’s why he loves doing royalty deals. The value of a company’s equity may go up or down, but a Royalty based on dollar figure will remain constant.
That's true I expected him the counter with 20 to 25 cents a cup
@@ov824 my dog...it means EVERYTHING. Obviously, he didn't have the foresight 12 years ago, seeing this company sell and have the kind of exit it had. His royalty was NOTHING in comparison to what he would have made on the exit, if he had some equity in the company. Wicked Good Cupcakes retained 100% equity of the company. They sold over 250 thousand in the first week this episode aired. They were able to swiftly pay his loan back and that .45 cents per jar, was nothing to them. He could have made MILLIONS MORE from this deal, if he had equity

I remember being at the Quincy Market in Boston years ago, I saw a cupcake stand with a lifesize Mr Wonderful cutout next to the stand etc. Not sure if this is the same deal or company but for the hour i was having lunch i didn't notice a single person buy anything from them. Either way, hope they were successful.
The business was sold for 350 million eventually and Kevin collected more than a millions dollars in royalties so they did pretty well.
"I hate the margins"
Damn! I love Kevin!
Barbara called them to say she loved the product and for that reason she's out
Mark just eating more and more lmao and the "pass it over here" lol
I just checked there webpage and they raise there prices in double the amount so Kevin was right with that deal they were going to be able to restructure there business.
Well its not their webpage anymore, they were bought out.
Unfortunately, I do that all the time too. Most of the deals where a shark gets involved, they raise the prices. So it's a blessing and a disguise. The viewers are happy they got a deal but they have to pay more for it now. I was just looking at the Fish Fry pitch. On the show they were already in Wal Mart for $4.95. Now it's $7.99, but inflation probably has something to do with it.
@@aznnp77 I'm sure supply and demand plays a role, not just the sharks getting involved per se. Once the company gets more established/well-known and has a larger customer base, they have more demand, and so price goes up simply because people are willing to pay more for the product. Nothing has intrinsic value -- it is worth an agreed upon price for which the seller is willing to part with it and the buyer is willing to pay for it. Virtually all companies (except for some which have more philanthropic intentions) experiment with different price points to determine what their customers are willing to pay and then settle on a price which yields the most profit. If they find over time that 100 customers are willing to pay $20 for a product but 80 are willing to pay $50, you best believe they're willing to lose 20 customers to double their profits.
Mark is so funny I love him
They sold for $350 million to Hickory Farms man they could’ve made so much from the equity
These cupcakes are wicked expensive. About 11 bucks a jar...
Kevin should really be getting a lot more than 45 cents

I think in an update I saw the founders said they got acquired for 40 million? Not 350. Both founders maintained equity, so yeah in the process they may have lost a bit in royalties to Kevin, but I'm sure they're doing just fine lol.
And they kicked butt after!!!
"means forever"... "my goodness" hahah
I love sweets and I’m tempted to buy some but seem pricy. $40 for 4 jars. It must be really good
I wouldn't eat them every day, mostly for the reason you mentioned. But a few times a year, they do hit the spot. I usually buy them around the holidays to give to family, too.
It’s half about the taste and half about the aesthetic; they’re more of a holiday thing. It’s easy to do yourself though if you can cook and do crafts

They were better off borrowing the $75,000 from a line of credit/bank.
Exactly. It’s just 75k, not 750k.
It’s not just about the money, you’re getting exposure from the show and a shark who has many connections.
They made 350 million and kevin made a million!
@@rauldana7435 true. And that 75k is pocket change for Kevin lol
