It is a huge stretch to assume that wanting to do nothing about the Vale during Tywin's small council is an anticrown position. Because of all the reasons you've mentioned there is no chance for Lysa backing up the Crown against Robb's case. So as long as the Vale stays neutral it's a success for the Crown. Doing anything may cause Lysa to start acting and that would probably benefit the North. It's better to "let her be".
The crack about the Golden Company "fighting for the losing side" probably has more to do with their 0-4 record in Westerosi invasions, rather than Stannis. (Either way, it's a downplay -- but that way it's more of a slam against the Company, "proving" his "loyalty" against Blackfyre rebellions.)
Man, next episode will be a blast. This is an interesting look back. I will say the two most suspicious positions Merryweather takes are the Iron Bank and the Golden Company. Mainly because he's lived in Essos for many years, he should be well aware of both the Golden Company and Iron Bank's reputations and M.O.s. The other issues I find less suspect, he councils inaction in the Vale and with House Frey, both of which makes sense for different reasons. The Freys it actually is good council, and in the case of the Vale, I feel it's more of an underestimate of Littlefinger and obliviousness to the Vale Lords. Also with the North I once again think Merryweather gives decent council. While he can believe Stannis to be desperate and on the brink of defeat, Davos is Stannis' right hand man and may have valuable information that could be used to defeat Stannis once and for all. I've always viewed the small council meetings as a way to show the differences in rulers from Ned to Tyrion to Tywin to Cersei. Hence why similar situations and problems are risen and different solutions are decided upon. Especially with Tywin and Cersei, that's why I think Merryweather coincidentally has some of the same views as his predecessors. To show when given the same options as Tywin how Cersei decides to handle the same situations. Its interesting to look back on not what is ultimately decided, but who is suggesting the solutions in order to find motive and common cause.
Honestly, I think Merryweather is a Stannis supporter. Causing strife between his enemies, pushing for a looooong trip from the North to KL for Davos (with lots of time to be ambushed.), and a consistent push to make sure the Crown underestimates and/or ignores Stannis' forces.

Not paying the crown's creditors ensured not only that the Iron Bank would support Stannis, but also that no one in their right mind would lend money to Cersei's government after that default. In a situation were Westeros' treasury was almost depleted due to the war, she basically lost any capacity of of acquiring financial revenue, believing that tax revenue alone would suffice her expenditures. To be precise, it is a common misconception that several people have here in my country, Brazil - and even some tax auditors and a minority of economists. Financial expenses and financial revenue are two sides of the same coin. But people insist on believing that a sovereign default would spare 40% of the national budget, instead of noticing that 50% of it is composed of financial revenue, that would simply vanish in that situation.
I was more excited for this than the Rick and Morty finale, and you did not disappoint! Now I'm even more hyped for the third installment; Preston v Rebellion Tracking: Get Hypppeeedddd!!!!!!
I love how during the Cersei chapter during the small council meeting it's perfectly clear that she is not fit to rule the kingdoms despite and in large part exactly because of her own deluded idea of how smart she is. Pycelle for the coward he is. Still gives very good advice, there is a reason he was able to keep his position for so long. If Cersei literally just listened to everything he suggested she would at the very least not make anything worse and even improve some things a little. But instead she pushes her own ideas without any thought as to the consequences. And she seems to enjoy young handsome men too much as well.
I had assumed that the mention of the losing side was just reference to their failed Blackfyre rebellions . But now that you mention that would be too much history knowledge in that meeting
Are you sure Horas and Hobber aren't flirting with Margaery? Her marriage to Tommen is unconsummated and can be set aside. Imagine, if Horas could marry Margaery, then King Aegon would write off Mace, Willas, and Garlan, in an attainder like the one Tommen signs against Edmure and the Blackfish in Jaime IX, ASOS. Then Horas could be Lord of Highgarden. I'm pumped to hear you talk about the Redwynes. There's a whole theory about them being Aegon supporters written out in a Quora post. The Redwynes are involved in so many suspicious things in the books: The cask of wine in Tyrion I, ADWD - suspicious. Varys' weird story about the Moonrunner - suspicious. The Lannisters keeping Horas and Hobber prisoner, threatening them, making Horas fight at the Blackwater - reasons for the Redwynes to hate the Lannisters. What does Paxter say to that? "Gods be praised!" (...) "A great victory for King Joffrey!" Kiss Lannister ass - suspicious. Testify against Tyrion for Cersei at the trial - suspicious. Shows indifference to the brutal murder of Rhaegar's children - sign of clear Blackfyre sympathies. Talk quietly with Mathis Rowan, a genuine Targaryen sympathiser, at Tommen's wedding - suspicious. Try to marry his daughter to a knight from House Lannister of no particular dynastic importance (yet) - suspicious. Horas and Hobber hitting on Margaery - suspicious. The big question is, what reason would the Redwynes have to support Aegon, as this is clearly in conflict to what Mace and the Tyrells want, which is to align with the Lannisters and slowly usurp their power through Margaery. To pull up a quote from a thread regarding a possible Redwyne-Aegon alliance: "aside from Highgarden itself, there is literally nothing that Paxter could want that Mace could not give him more easily than Aegon could." Well, that really hits the nail on the head, doesn't it? *Highgarden itself.* Through their mother, Paxter's sons are the next male heirs behind Willas and Garlan. Why shouldn't they want Highgarden?
For power, maybe? Like how the Freys trust their kin about as far as they can throw them. Like Arnolf Karstark was trying to goad the Lannisters into killing his grandnephew, Harrion - kinslaying via proxy. Or how Leobald Tallhart sent his nephew Benfred to his death fighting Theon, so Leobald could usurp Torrhen's Square. Family, in theory, should love each other, but in this world, it's sometimes all about power. Plus, how likely is it that the beautiful Tyrells show much love and appreciation towards their ugly ginger cousins? Olenna has been a Tyrell for about fifty years, it's doubtful she's still close to her birth family. Paxter would be naturally resentful of Mace for being an arrogant twit, and Horror and Slobber would be resentful of their cousin, the Knight of Flowers, being so loved and celebrated (while also being so gay) while they're constantly mocked. And the Redwyne twins would hate the Lannisters keeping them prisoner, and along with their father, hate the Tyrells for trying to make nice with the Lannisters.
But wouldn’t Margaery technically have Highgarden before them? So they would obtain Highgarden through marriage? Just like how Sansa would be in line for Winterfell if Bran or Rickon could not inherit it. Because I think then the children may still carry on the name Tyrell unless one of the Redwynes does an Orys Baratheon and starts a new Redwyne branch at Highgarden.
Mic drop by Preston at the end with Blackfyre rebellion. I thank you again Preston Jacobs with lockdown your breakdowns buy me at least 48 hrs of GoT obsessive thoughts. Anyone every ask you to break down Rick and Morty and will you and Carmine be doing any videos soon?
Could Merryweather have made a slip? Myr was losing, and the golden company would move east to the winning side? He does have a Myrish connection after all.
They're predominantly green. The first thing I did was check they were green when I clicked. High-quality emeralds have SOME blue flashes in them, and Cersei's and Jaime's eyes are described as emerald in the books. That's actually what I liked about the picture.
Isn't it obvious? Orton Merryweather and Paxter Redwyne want to build a grand navy to accompany Wolverine across the Sunset Sea because not even psychics who know everything know what's over there. She's gonna need an awful lot of crewmen to satiate her bloodlust, after all...
I feel like the joke about being tired of being on the losing side is an allusion to the Golden Company's connection to the Blackfyre rebellion... For some reason.

6:56 Hold on one minute. I thought we concluded, years ago, that Lyssa Arryn wanted Tyrion to win his trial. When I re-read the books this became so clear. So Tyrion saying she needed to sorted out is another of Tyrion's follies.
That doesn't make much sense considering she was resentful enough after Tyrion won to the point of making him go through the road full of clansmen alone. Or am I missing something?
@@wizardsummoner9124 He was in more danger the Eyrie after having been responsible the death of Ser Vardis. It wasn't that she liked Tyrion, but she didn't want to be held responsible for his death. It was easier if he won. You can see she chooses the oldest knight, and makes him use an unfamiliar sword. I think there are other clues, but I forget now. But to your question, she couldn't have provided an honor guard to him if she wanted.
Preston, have you considered going over some of your older videos and releasing updates for the theories based on new info from Fire and Blood and other sources? I would love to see how the new info on Targaryen history changes your Dragon Genetics theories.
Speaking of the Vale , I'd wouldn't want Littlefinger in charge, nor would I want to make him an enemy... He is already very dangerous and hostile, but the latter is probably unknown and even if not, I'm certain that escalating it would cause more grief... It's thus a much tougher choice than many may think...
Littlefinger currently has to deal with Myranda and Nestor if he wants to control the Vale permanently. Things can go tits up for him even without the Crown's involvement.

Preston: "Next time, we will address the mysterious Redwynes (...) and, you know what, we're going to talk about Blackfyre Rebellions. Yes, that's right, we're going there."
Me: "HAZAAAAHHHHH"
Preston you are like the late, great Agatha Christie, you always leave us in suspense ......great video, thank you and stay safe in the Capital.👍👍
Love your content, Preston, keep it up! I can't wait for the next book to come, maybe in the next century, I know I'm being optimistic but who knows, we might get lucky
As always, your videos continue to impress!
I was more excited for this than the Rick and Morty finale, and you did not disappoint! Now I'm even more hyped for the third installment; Preston v Rebellion Tracking: Get Hypppeeedddd!!!!!!
BACK !!!
This is the shit that makes us love you Preston. Never stop.
But now that you mention that would be too much history knowledge in that meeting
i cant wait for the next one, i never thought Taena could have other intentions tbh
Thanks preston, love ya
I almost went insane waiting for this. Thank you Preston
The Redwynes are involved in so many suspicious things in the books:
The cask of wine in Tyrion I, ADWD - suspicious.
Varys' weird story about the Moonrunner - suspicious.
The Lannisters keeping Horas and Hobber prisoner, threatening them, making Horas fight at the Blackwater - reasons for the Redwynes to hate the Lannisters.
What does Paxter say to that?
"Gods be praised!" (...) "A great victory for King Joffrey!"
Kiss Lannister ass - suspicious.
To pull up a quote from a thread regarding a possible Redwyne-Aegon alliance:
"aside from Highgarden itself, there is literally nothing that Paxter could want that Mace could not give him more easily than Aegon could."
Well, that really hits the nail on the head, doesn't it? *Highgarden itself.*
Through their mother, Paxter's sons are the next male heirs behind Willas and Garlan. Why shouldn't they want Highgarden?
Tyrells and Rewynes are cousins. Why would they want to usurp their own family?
Because I think then the children may still carry on the name Tyrell unless one of the Redwynes does an Orys Baratheon and starts a new Redwyne branch at Highgarden.
these are the kind of vids i been waiting for :) :)
I like these type of videos where he takes one chapter and dissects it with that patented tinge of Preston craziness.
Been waiting for this since part 1 came out of a dream
My phone just popped the notification and I paused Buffy and came right over.
Interesting that there is so much focus on the Iron Fleet. One would wonder how you could forget about it.
Love the new series. Keep it up PJ!!
Ah yes, winds of winter. This basically has become the continuation of Ice and Fire
I just spent half an hour looking for the intro music.
HELP
Its a jingle from my video software, Final Cut Pro X, called Elysium
@@PrestonJacobstheSweetrobin thanks!
Could Merryweather have made a slip? Myr was losing, and the golden company would move east to the winning side? He does have a Myrish connection after all.
Preston's Taena voice is SOOO HOT.
Cosigned. Emphatically cosigned. With a flourish.
loll!
So this is yet another not a lonely song video.
Always look forward to your uploads.
Back are we and
46K people are still watching videos about an unfinished book series that is 9 years old. Thank you, Preston!
14 years???? You’re timeline is way off
@@210SAi Not way off.
NoLord the book series is decades old. The unfinished book would be 9 years and counting which is what I believe you meant to say.
PJ on blackfire rebelion ? Can't wait for this !
Waw mysterious ending, bravo Mr Jacobs, you are a master at storytelling through analysis.
Great video! Though the fact that cartoon-Cersei’s eyes are blue and not green keeps bothering me😂
They're predominantly green. The first thing I did was check they were green when I clicked. High-quality emeralds have SOME blue flashes in them, and Cersei's and Jaime's eyes are described as emerald in the books. That's actually what I liked about the picture.
Anne Davis that may be true, but in my head they’ve always been green.☺️ Great attention to detail though.
Isn't it obvious?
Orton Merryweather and Paxter Redwyne want to build a grand navy to accompany Wolverine across the Sunset Sea because not even psychics who know everything know what's over there.
She's gonna need an awful lot of crewmen to satiate her bloodlust, after all...
simply amazing how you do this
Thanks Preston, thanks your grace.
I feel like the joke about being tired of being on the losing side is an allusion to the Golden Company's connection to the Blackfyre rebellion... For some reason.
Great analysis PJ.
The ironmen are still wary of the Neck/crannogmen they wanted everything north of the Neck.... i found that funny/very interesting. They and the Frey's are the only two people/houses/group that give them respect to the crannogmen/The Neck at 10:20.
God, this is just wonderful.
@@ThereIsNoLord
Killing Tyrion meant war with House Lannister.
Exactly what Lysa wanted to avoid, and Cat to bring on.
You listing Cerceis problems made me nervous
The only way I’ll ever rewatch GOT is if HBO overdubs all of Charles Dance’s lines with Preston’s Tywin voice.
Preston, have you considered going over some of your older videos and releasing updates for the theories based on new info from Fire and Blood and other sources? I would love to see how the new info on Targaryen history changes your Dragon Genetics theories.
Speaking of the Vale
, I'd wouldn't want Littlefinger in charge, nor would I want to make him an enemy...
