I just noticed the lines 'poison from the entrails of a dying beast' reminds me a lot of two famous scenes in fantasy: The first one being Siegfried slaying the dragon Fafnir and being bathed in his blood and the second (likely inspired by the first) being Túrin Turambar slaying the dragon Glaurung in the Silmarillion, where the poisonous blood of the dying dragon (almost) kills Túrin. I find this to be a striking picture, especially with this line. Just... I don't know, I felt like sharing it.
Tinfoil guess: I think Aeron will skinchange a kraken, realize it after Euron has already won the battle and consider sinking the silence. I believe he'll decline and slip out of the kraken's skin, because he's a coward. So Euron will think Aeron did everything he wanted and be unaware of the secret power he has and the climax of the Aeron story will be Aeron finally standing up to Euron, possibly when it's far too late.
So I didn't find ASOIAF till GOT came out. After seeing the first season, it grasped me so firmly I couldn't not read all the books in 3 months. I've been going crazy not getting TWOW. I really hope that we get it before House of the Dragon comes out in a year and a half.
Every now and again I come back to some of Preston's classic theories. These videos have so much rewatchability I couldn't say how many times I've watched em.
My theory: if everything indicates that Euron will be defeated, it's because Euron *wants* to be defeated, and the Iroborn forces annihilated. I believe he also sent Victarion on a suicide mission, hoping he and his forces will be annihilited as well. I believe he's in league with the Others, trying to weaken human resistance before their assault (in this case, he's weakening the Ironborn and the Reach, maybe hoping that krakens will come and cause as much damage as possible to both sides), just like Littlefinger is weakening the Vale (and possibly the Riverlands), Ramsay is further weakening the North, and Cersei has been f*cking up the entire realm (well, I guess that's just because she's crazy).
Less "in league with" than "using" Euron is a wizard accelerationist who sees the Others the same way white supremacists see the chaos global warming could cause: An opportunity., he wants to end the world by any means at hand so he can ascend and become the god of the next world. He doesn't have to be working with the Others to go nuts (Oldtown has a fuckload of hidden magic contained by the maesters and he may simply be planning to burn it all and try to start a Magic Chernobyl), but they could prove convenient and either way the Ironborn are expendable. The analogy to Ramsay, Petyr, and Cersei is pretty spot on thought, they're all agents of chaos destroying everything in the face of an existential threat to humanity (the others) in an attempt to climb the chaos ladder and gain power. Euron is just crazier, more honest, and doing it BIG.
your writing and explanatory skills and your breakdown for even non-readers to easily understand is super admirable, and this video is amazing! and uh, if you need a guy to do the voices for you, i can do it :)
I believe this battle is inspired by the battle of salamos, between Greece and Persia. If so the iron born may use alchemist fire to create a smoke screen while the move boats up river or pull the on land while the enemy fleets crash into each other, or in this case are devoured by squids.
I saw In Deep Geek’s take where he theorized that Euron will use the battle as a massive sacrifice to enact a magical ritual to use Dragonbinder to enthrall the dragons to him, though it won’t completely succeed. He’ll probably get just Viserion. But perhaps Preston and Robert are both right. After all, both scenarios only help Euron. Not only would summoning krakens help seal a victory and ensure him navel superiority, but it would further enshrine his forces to him and make him look like a god.
I think not. The blood ritual is there to lure krakens, yes, but moreso, everything else that dwells beneath. The Deep Ones. Hybrids of humans and monsters from the deep, they are mentionend in several instances and we actually might see their on-land version often (they become even more fishy in the water, generally). They will come and sack Oldtown, allowing Euron, posessed by Nyarlathotep as he is, to gain the horn of Winter and the black stone that was once found by the Bloodstone Emperor - the founder of the Church of Starry Wisdom which worshipps Nyarlathotep. With them, Euron can awaken the Old Ones and likely break the walls magic. The Others will free Nyarlathotep from his imprisonment in that cave, where he is held by the magic of the Children of the Forest. Thereafter, they'll free Chaos itself from the crypts of Winterfell - if they succeed. Azathoth. I mean, Euron does not even currently have dragonbinder. It's with Victarion.
I was reading a earlier Tyrion chapter when Varys mentions rumors including 3 headed dragons and mentions a Krakan rising from off the Fingers and attacking a Ibbenese whaler. I had to screenshot it and rewatch this
There's also a decent amount of similarities here to another historical sea battle. The battle of Salamis between the Greek alliance and the larger Persian fleet when they attacked the bigger force within a narrow channel. The larger Persian fleet couldn't maneuver well there and the Greeks somehow picked them off one by one. The Persians tried to block off the ends of the strait with their ships but it didn't matter because logistically they had issues communicating orders to their larger fleet to act in a coordinated manner whereas the smaller Greek fleet was landing more effective precision strikes. Thematically the battle of Salamis makes sense if they are going for a crushing defeat of a superior naval force.
Euron really is a monster in the TWOW chapter... his lips blue from drinking the blue warlock wine, he straps the Damphair AND his lover (whatever her name was) to the bow of Silence. That's really off the charts even for a GOT villain, Euron starting to make Ramsey look like a sissy. As the author suggest, the blue warlock wine has turned Euron into a mad-man and there's bound to be all kinds of horror and brutality in the Ironman chapters, when Winds of winter comes out in either one or 25 years that is.
Robert Maybeth her name is Falia Flowers and she is pregnant, Euron also killed three of his brothers, raped two and maybe even abused Victarion since Victarion thinks there is something disturbing about Euron's nakedness
Grrm will never explain the telepathy that is in the story, it will just be there for those who can see it and the rest will just see krakens pulling down the enemy ships of the greyjoys etc
Hmm, maybe Crows Eye will win the battle against the Reach’s Fleet, but Lord Hightower/Sam will be able to stop him from taking Old Town itself. Lord Leyton is just sitting in his tower waiting to be an awesome reveal
We know that George uses sigils to foreshadow upcoming battles. For example, I noticed that house bar emmon's sigil (a trapped swordfish) foreshadows that house bar emmon's ship, the swordfish, gets trapped in the battle of the blackwater and pierces (like a swordfish) a hulk filled with wildfire. Since the battle of blood mirrors the battle of the blackwater we could also expect a piercer here, but one that releases blood instead of wildfire. And what house lies right next to the battle? House Bulwer, whose sigil is a bull's (piercing animal) skull (they will die) with it's background being *blood*.
Are Krakens instruments of the Drowned God's will? If so, perhaps keeping A A Ron alive (and strapped to the prow of his ship) is in order to use him as a sort of shield to keep the Krakens from eating Euron's ship? I can't see Krakens as being in the thrall of the storm god, as why then would the Iron Born use it as their sigil? If so they'd use a dead, or chained kraken to show their lack of fear and dominance over the storm god.
Euron's need for Aeron's "holy blood" is not about attracting krakens to the surface. Aeron is just one man. His few pints of blood, among thousands needed to attract krakens, wouldn't be significant. No, Euron is saving Aeron and a motley collection of other holy men for some other purpose. Just because Euron said that "all gods are lies" doesn't mean that he has no religious belief, especially in himself as a god. He meant literally that he wants Aeron's holy blood because it's somehow useful because of who Aeron is.
When stannis is thinking about taking claw isle there's something said about there being a horn that calls crackens from the deep. That would be useful for eurons plan.
I know this is one of your older videos, but I really like how you broke down the forces and such, makes it easy to look at the overworld and see where these fights will be
Theory: Crows eye thinks his brother have magic abilities and feed him with meat from priests of other cultures to awaken his power. He is also torturing, making him crave death and his drown god. Maybe he think that once pushed far enough, Aeron will summon the krakken? A desperate way for an underdog to win.
Still halfway through, worth mentioning there is something of a parallel between this battle of blood with Euron at the south east while in the north west ironically there is an Ironborn in Cotter Pyke on Jons/living side in the Southron role while there are heaps of "dead things in the water" in place of Krakens (Squishers?) etc. That could be the "black tide" as well?
Some Ironborn longships were burned in a surprise attack launched by the Northmen (Dustin and another house I forget). We learn of it in a Daavos chapter.
my theory on the kraken horn from house Celtigar is that it wont summon a kraken but a sea dragon, which as we know the iron born have massive connections to because of the Skelton of Naga on their home islands
Unrelated thought... when Quaithe warns Denny: "beware of the perfumed seneschal" what do you think is the probability that she talks about the ship on which Tyrrion, Penny and Moquoro were travelling? I can't really remember what was her name, but it was something in that context... so could the warning be: beware of Moquoro, Tyrrion, Penny or of all three of them? P.S. Sorry if there is some misspelling, I've read the books in a language different than English!
There are a few candidates for the perfumed seneschal. That ship being one of them. However, I'm of the mind that shes planting mistrust and doubt in Dany. There are only a few characters that serve as "exposition vessels" Quaithe, Old nan, and the Ghost of High Heart come to mind. They are the only characters that are typically 100% correct likely due to GRRM's original idea of a trilogy and the need to move the story along. However, I mistrust Quaithe because of her "close" relationship with Dany and GRRM's love to subvert tropes. I believe Quaithe wants something from Dany and does not or rather did not want her to go west. I think the Perfumed Seneschal is either Reznak mo Reznak, The Fragrant Steward carrying Tyrion and company, or Archmaester Marwyn on the Cinnamon Wind.
I think the kraken just speaks of Euron. He's probably going to lure an attack on the south of the strait after he's already attacked the north with his missing ships. Then use the higher number of war ships to destroy the southern fleet. The blood in the water just means a massive battle.
I find the separating of the fleet significant. I think likely the ironborn at oldtown are bait to lure the redwyne fleet away, maybe as a complete sacrifice and maybe not. But if Euron joins them I think he has some plans first to take advantage of the distraction with his fleet
>GRRM calls him dumb as a post >He's a reference and satire of Conan the Barbarian books >He's a jock type character in an ASOIAF book >He has an ominous priest predicting 'great things' for him >He's cut from the show >He has a manipulative older brother while he has a more black and white morality How doomed is Victarion, Preston? Pls say not very
Yeah, I don't understand that one. Preston and Carmine alluded to the fact that Preston is 'disliked' amongst the asoiaf community and that they would be discussing it on a patreon podcast. I haven't heard said podcast or aware of the reasons he his apparently disliked.
Apparently hate was built around some kind of misunderstanding...? Well, it's not healthy to be guessing in a matter like this one, so let's just wait for a patreon exclusive. I think that it's supposed to be uploaded for all to see in 4 or 5 months.
such an in depth analysis blows my mind. both for the time it took you to research and put together, and for GRRM to think of all these intertwining prophesies, foreshadowing and plot points. how do you guys do it?!
I'm surprised you didn't pick up on Aeron being dragged by the arms by two of Euron's soldiers bearing him like a cross up a flight of stairs, his feet hitting every step. Aeron will be strapped to the front of Euron's ship, Silence and because he is "The Prophet" the Krakens will not attack Euron's ship. He even looks like Jesus and his first ever chapter in AFFC is called "The Prophet". Pretty significant Jesus imagery. That is why he won't be attacked by Krakens.
Isn’t the Lord Hightower doing research into magic (telepathy I guess?) so wouldn’t that be a pretty big factor in the battle of blood too. Like it’s mention multiple times through the series I’d assume it would would have some relevance. Great video everything you do is quality whether its narration or just video love what you do!
Question for you Preston if you see this- do you think there was any magic keeping Aemon alive at the wall? His final 2 Samwel chapters sort of imply he suddenly got ill. They chalk it up to "cold preserving" but there's so much magic being used by and beyond the wall I'm suspicious. Great video, the final portion that brought in The Damphair was a great kicker that I didn't see coming.

I was surprised you didn't say that Euron is not actually in those ships and he is communicating with Aeron telepathically, making him (and the reader) think he is there. All ships go down while he is somewhere in the other 800 ships and closing the trap.
You’re my favourite UA-camr of all time, don’t take this the wrong way, but I listen to your videos every night to fall asleep to :3 it’s because I find your voice very nice to listen to and your videos are always so smart and engaging and takes my overactive mind off everything else and just concentrate on your amazing theories and the amazing books! Thank you so much for all the work you put in
Little Bee and Nutmeg I do the same thing
I fall asleep to them if I have heard them already
Glad to know I'm not the only weirdo out there :p
You put it in words
Little Bee and Nutmeg i call it a Presterosi nightcap.
Could the Red Water relate to the REDWYNE straight???
Zeery it’s certainly no coincidence, you should know that by now

You, good Ser, are well trained.
This is probably the one of the best videos you've done
Tinfoil guess: I think Aeron will skinchange a kraken, realize it after Euron has already won the battle and consider sinking the silence. I believe he'll decline and slip out of the kraken's skin, because he's a coward. So Euron will think Aeron did everything he wanted and be unaware of the secret power he has and the climax of the Aeron story will be Aeron finally standing up to Euron, possibly when it's far too late.
Wow this is a good idea
This mirrors Theon (at least in the show) turning down the opportunity to challenge Euron and save Asha during the Iron fleet raid.
Aeron will become the avatar of the Drowned God, enslaved by Euron, then he will die imo
So I didn't find ASOIAF till GOT came out. After seeing the first season, it grasped me so firmly I couldn't not read all the books in 3 months.
I've been going crazy not getting TWOW. I really hope that we get it before House of the Dragon comes out in a year and a half.
😔
One of these days maybe lol
I am so happy at least one of my ASoIaF creators will be able to keep coming up with content until George finally delivers WoW. So creative and fun.
love the kraken scream effects.
IF anything else happens, George will have been wrong.
No
Something else will happen and the creator of the universe can't be wrong
Preston Jacobs is wrong about every thing including his own name . He is that name is Hodor and he's ugly and stupid

Euron's ship the 'silence' has a blood red hull right? Wouldn't that camouflage his ship is the bloody sea?
Depends on the color of the sails, but possibly
your writing and explanatory skills and your breakdown for even non-readers to easily understand is super admirable, and this video is amazing! and uh, if you need a guy to do the voices for you, i can do it :)
Wouldnt the straights be more shallow than the open sea though? Would there be krakens lurking bellow?
Straits. Spell.
I believe this battle is inspired by the battle of salamos, between Greece and Persia. If so the iron born may use alchemist fire to create a smoke screen while the move boats up river or pull the on land while the enemy fleets crash into each other, or in this case are devoured by squids.
Awesome! Preston's ability to draw parallels from G.R.R. Martin's intricately detailed clues & thematics is truly Sherlockian.
Does this mean that RedTeamReviews is a "Watson" to his "Sherlock"...? :3
It's elementary.
17:20 YAS!! I like this parallel between the two battleships. You got me convinced! Epic video from start to finish.
As if I couldn't get more hyped for winds of winter...
Preston should just finish the books for George.
This is by far my favorite theory from Preston for its sheer magnificence
I was reading a earlier Tyrion chapter when Varys mentions rumors including 3 headed dragons and mentions a Krakan rising from off the Fingers and attacking a Ibbenese whaler. I had to screenshot it and rewatch this
Preston, you are what I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving
Don't forget about his pretty intros! ;)
Thematically the battle of Salamis makes sense if they are going for a crushing defeat of a superior naval force.
yeah put greek ships had better crews and better ships, its the oposite here.
And the worst part is Euron unlike Ramsey isn't chaotic and erratic. He has the air of it being deliberate and it adds that air of dread
Definitely analyze more of these battles. This was awesome.
Grrm will never explain the telepathy that is in the story, it will just be there for those who can see it and the rest will just see krakens pulling down the enemy ships of the greyjoys etc
This is one of, if not the best theory of yours, great work
Hmm, maybe Crows Eye will win the battle against the Reach’s Fleet, but Lord Hightower/Sam will be able to stop him from taking Old Town itself. Lord Leyton is just sitting in his tower waiting to be an awesome reveal
This is so well done, it's incredible.
Martin is such a gifted writer
This was super well done. Just wanted to say great job.
I am 6 years late on this video but I can't wait to read this in another 6 years
We know that George uses sigils to foreshadow upcoming battles.
Seven years later and we’re still stuck wondering
And the man does it again! My compliments sir. I really love this scenario. I hope George does too.
A desperate way for an underdog to win.
it has been 1,953 days since this video was uploaded & 4,278 days since a dance with dragons was released.
Maybe the "Holy" men will be used in some way to protect against Krakens
YAS!! You hinted at your theory for the battle of blood in previous videos and now I get the full tell!!! ''Tis a good day.
The Silence's hull is painted red, so it may not be visible to a Kraken in a sea of blood.
Thank you!!! Just for posting anything!!
Some Ironborn longships were burned in a surprise attack launched by the Northmen (Dustin and another house I forget). We learn of it in a Daavos chapter.
Glad to have you back, Preston :D
my theory on the kraken horn from house Celtigar is that it wont summon a kraken but a sea dragon, which as we know the iron born have massive connections to because of the Skelton of Naga on their home islands
Great video! And thank you for keeping it in one part. The waits for part 2, 3, etc are mood killers.
Why is nobody else talking about this? This theory sounds spot on asf
These are some rather astute observations. I will be very disappointed if we don't get a kraken attack in TWOW.
Tyrion translated it as te "Stinky Steward", so yes, it might be that
I thought the perfumed Seneschal was Reznak mo Reznak
I always took it to mean Varys.
I always had a feeling it was varys....because he keeps changing his personality with smell
You should do a big series where you predict how the stories for each character will go down based on foreshadowing, George's other stories, etc.
This is fascinating. I totally missed these details.
>GRRM calls him dumb as a post
>He's a reference and satire of Conan the Barbarian books
>He's a jock type character in an ASOIAF book
>He has an ominous priest predicting 'great things' for him
>He's cut from the show
>He has a manipulative older brother while he has a more black and white morality
How doomed is Victarion, Preston? Pls say not very
As soon as I saw there were only 36 ships there I knew he was luring the fleet in for a trap. The think about the kraken wasn't so obvious though.
nearly at 150,000 subs, congratulations Preston! I member subbing years ago when you had just started out. Much love Ser Preston.
Same here. Sometimes I wonder, though... how many of these 150k subs are haters who subscribed just to come here and down-vote Preston's work?
Awsome video.Really well thought out.I want Winds of Winter now!
“Where I’m from ,we call them Krakens” ☝🏻🤓
That intro is everything
Euron video? HYPE
Stannis Baratheon Hail the one true 👑
Stannis Baratheon honestly Euron, Stannis and Varys are my favorite characters in the books.. Show wise I hate them.. Completely ruined
Love this new map format
The show could have had some real pirates of the caribbean epicness if they’d portrayed the book’s version of the ironborn
The opening jingle from the Alan Watts library talks! Love Alan Watts.
Wow this stood out to me so much in these comments
Old Leyton and his mad maid are definitely cooking up something in that tower.
I'd recommend contacting RedTeamReview. Send him your question and he probably will read it to Preston during one of their podcast episodes.
that's a great fucking question
Impressive animation and analysis, as always!
