Maybe your car stopped running at a stop light; you turn it off and turn the key on and it starts up normally, or maybe something else doesn't seem to work properly. Lets find out from Pat what this could be.

Excellent tip to which I would only add that when ignition failure is a possibility start at the spark plug and work backwards through the wiring. No spark at the plug is a more definitive starting point although this still leaves a number of potential causes that you will need to eliminate one by one...

Are you talking about an ignition switch or an ignition lock cylinder?

Helps answer that the Ignition switch remains in operation while the vehicle is driving. Should be obvious; but I was wondering.

I had an ignition switch go bad in a 1989 Lincoln Town Car and it was like the car was possessed it did weird weird things. Luckily a new ignition switch was only $9!

It's not your car that's possessed,your money maker mechanic and electrician are rigging wiring and fuses and disconnecting things. I caught mechanic cutting fine wiring and making a dud join which undoes itself through bumps and vibrations while driving. Big MFAHs !*@#?

When i remove the key from the ignition switch the courtesy lights, radio and lighters still go on and off intermitently , is this a syntom of bad ignition switch ? thanks for your help.

OK.U have a lot of expert knowledge. Just advice how to replace original VW GOLF IGNITION switch for a Universal IGNITION switch which l'm told is cheaper and easier to install than repairing old switch because I'll need an expert only repairing ignition to get it right not a chance and there's a lot around.

I had intermittent click no start on 04 Maxima. It took me long time to figure out the wiring for the ignition switch was damaged by the dealership installed alarm (T-tap quick connectors)

Do new switches go bad? Right away I mean. I rebuilt an old jd skid loader, everything Electrical new and lost spark. Still turns over. Now to fix,again... Swapped coil, nothing.p

Starter or ignition switch? Why my ignition switch starts my car and stays stuck ? It sounds like if I start my car when I turn it to the Run. When it’s on run it turns on and stays stuck sounds like if I were to be doing it??
