Im a mechanic, in Western Australia, where or what programs do you use to get your wiring schematics
All my congratulation because your videos are very educative for technicians
I'm 68 years old. I've been renting since I was 15. Got my mechanic's license when I was 22. I was a long time ago. I listened to a lot of these videos as a refresher and find them interesting. Many of them are just so well done, but I have to say I wish it would leave the darned music out of them. I think if you're serious about the content, it's completely unnecessary. Anyway, this is another very well done one I think. Appreciate them posting it
Hi James, we appreciate your feedback. Thank you for leaving a comment and we hope you found the video useful!
Yes this was a very good video and thank you for that but the music is often distracting and I would prefer it not be included.
You can tell you're sixty-eight years old with your b*tching.
I’m 66 mech. since 1975, if you don’t like the music turn it down and put the closed captions on. I think the videos are great and the maker gets to choose.
@@Ecutestinglimited for those of us with hearing loss, the music is a problem
Absolutely flawless 18 years I've been a mechanic and now I'm trying to get into diagnostics and electrics this video has blown me away always been scared of getting into canbus to find faults the way you've put this across step by step is amazing I actually understood it which is hard for me as I'm more of a practical learner subbed 😊
Hi. Thank you so much, we're glad you found the video useful! Hopefully CAN Bus is a little less scary now 👍
You're not alone, there are countless 'Mechanics' who get hysterical at the thought of a complex topic, fear of an unknown entity can be daunting. newer technology is a never ending journey of learning.🙂
This is they way how a technition see the world, we know that most failures are some soldering points, the manual check shown in the video is to show you and understand that these black boxes arent black, you need just another point of view..
18 years and you are just now getting into diag ?
From a DIYers perspective... I have watched many of these videos from others including S.D. and this one is by far the best explanation I have seen and makes me confident in diagnosis. Thank You a Million.!

This is by far the best CAN-BUS diagnostic video I’ve seen in over 2-3 months of learning about CAN-BUS issues on my 2005 Land Rover LR3. Wish UA-cam would have shown me this at the start of my learning journey!
Thank you for the high praise, we're glad this has aided your understanding! Hopefully your Land Rover is all fixed now 🙏
Not yet - but I have a good plan for methodically diagnosing it now to find my issue.
Thanks for creating this content. I’ve searched the internet to course a wiring diagram for my car, but have yet to find one that is either free or at a reasonable price without having to sign up, be a member and say yes to conditions I don’t want.
NICE VIDEO!

Glad to hear that, thank you for your support!
amazing video! i have check my vehicle and diagnostics port obd does not have any wire in pin 6 and 14, is that normal? vehicle is and 2001 w168 mercedes
Got a failure by turbo pressure on a D5 volvo, could ne the sensor, a pipe, the turbo, in the end of logic it was a soldering point in the vct actuator.. Resoldered and it works, takes time, but any good diagnose takes time and feel what you are doing.. Great video, thanks how to do it manualy
Thank you, good job on the diagnosis! 👍
Amazing
awesome video. i have a quick question: is there any way to power on car headlights on table (using power supply / battery) that are full of LED and using CAN communication. thanks a lot
Tank you
Thank for your very clear instructions. To keep my VW Tiguan asleep, I have to latch the door latch, with door open, otherwise opening my door will wake up CAN system.
GREAT!!!
Thanks for your support David 👍

Sar good information ❤❤❤
Thank you, we're glad you enjoyed it! ❤
Wow i can just say woow👍👍👍
Good ❤❤❤
The video is good, but for more detailed and accurate troubleshooting, I recommend using an oscilloscope. You can distinguish between main line and sub line issues by examining the waveform.
Very great explanation. For trucks it's the same way to do a diagnosis?
Thank you! The fundamental principles and protocols of the CAN bus system are the same across different types of vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, buses, and even some non-automotive applications. However, the implementation can vary significantly between automotive applications and trucks, and even among different manufacturers and models. Trucks, especially commercial heavy-duty ones, may have more complex CAN bus networks due to their advanced systems for cargo management, additional safety features, advanced telemetry for fleet management, and other specialised systems not typically found in passenger vehicles. We would always recommend consulting your specific vehicles wiring diagrams and vehicle schematics before conducting any tests and making any conclusions. Hope this helps!
What are each of the modules shown in the diagram used to describe the can bus network?
Every educational
gold nugget :)
Great video just subscribe to your channel, having trouble with the 2016 Jeep grand Cherokee my lights stay on and cannot turn them off with the headlight control switch knob. The lights only shut off when my car is off and I can’t access my highbeams. Any idea what it it could be?, Already replaced the headlight control off switch what the factory went from Mopar and I also replaced the ambient light sensor in the middle of the dash and still same problem.
Great video and explanation. But, it all hinges on the troubleshooter having 100% familiarity with the physical routing of cabling inside the vehicle. i.e. where modules are actually located and how does the wiring loom run throughout the vehicle. Most factory wiring diagrams don't usually show that but rather show the wiring in a form of electrical schematic rather than the physical layout. So, it really boils down to personal experience with the vehicle being worked on.
How can you tell which modules hold the terminating resistors to each specific vehicle? I have 120 ohm resistance thru my can bus on my DLC port. I’m having a hard time finding the open circuit in my 2016 Hyundai sonata.

Hi Nick. Happy new year and thanks for your support! 👍
Hi. what if diagnostic pc read:
1) there is a short circuit to ground?
2) A short circuit exist to battery (+) or an open circuit exist?
thanks
Very informative video!
I have communication issues with the transmission control module .
When connected to the can bus ,resistance reading was 40ohms,scanner showed tcm is not fitted although the gearbox functioned ok.
I replaced it with another unit along with the wiring harness .
Scanner connected to the used module but only for 2 times .
Gearbox functions well again but can't communicate with tcm for live readings and reset functions etc.
Do I have 2 faulty tcms?
How can I confirm this?
I checked grounds, power and can bus wiring ,all seems good..
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
I forgot to write that I also have no faults codes (communication or else )
In many newer cars in between obd port and can bus is gateway module so you cant always do a resistance check
Hi sir
That's strange as I'm using multieuscan on our citroen relay to diagnose faults which I've found and rectified. However it showing up a fault code of U1700 permanent U171A intermittent but it's not showing any engine warning lights .
I've searched rectifing fixes but it's hard to find the right method as none really point in the citroen relay fixes and all show fixes for different manufactures. 😕
Sir I am also coming across a can bus issue from the bcm and the resistance was way high the voltage was normal after disconnecting the battery or the bcm supply line the resistance comes back to normal the issue the power steering of the car is not working. The vehicle is fitted with a mdps steering since a can bus is shooting on I cannot take a decision regrading the problem
Sir, very nice
Sir, can high and low is dc voltage or ac voltage (signal)????
Sir, I reparing electric charger but this charger not on without bms battery ,, now sir how to on without bms battery for testing purposes.
Please guide. Charger use four wire can H, can L, ground1, and ground 2(bms use in)
Very well explained. But my question to manufacturer , why canbus is not redundant?.
Why there is no graphic way of presenting the communication devices in single page of display ?.
hello thankyou for upload, can u help we with following
I see that 1MBPS speed is called high speed bus is 500kbps is also supposed to be high speed or medium speed?
With the gateway in picture i have seen that there are still CAN wire coming to OBD plug, is this resistance test is still applicable at OBD plug ..
Hi, a CAN bus network with a 500 kbps transfer speed could be considered at the lower end of high-speed or at the upper end of medium-speed. In many contexts, especially where real-time communication is crucial and the standards specify up to 1 Mbps, 500 kbps would be categorised as high-speed. However, the specific application and the network's requirements (e.g which modules are on the network, drivetrain or safety critical modules will likely be on high speed), will ultimately determine how this speed is classified.
With a gateway module directly after the OBD-II port, if the network is correctly configured and the gateway module does not alter the termination scheme of two 120Ω resistors at either end of the network, you would still expect to see a resistance measurement of approximately 60 ohms across the CAN High and CAN Low lines. This assumes the measurement is taken with the network in a passive state. Hope this helps!
@@Ecutestinglimited thankyou for detailed explanation 👍
Hello, could you please help and give some tips or directions. I have Audi a8 and the readings for can high and low the same, and I have no communication with the ECM. Thank you in advance
Hi. Please watch the whole of our video carefully as we go through a methodological process of finding faults in the CAN bus network. At 6:00 in the video we go through how to diagnose just one module with no communication, and more details on how to determine the cause of this can be found in another of our videos here: ua-cam.com/video/Y3aoD5BMxQw/v-deo.htmlsi=c7zvIHLp8tBubx4F. Hope this helps.
