    I just started flute making and got my first flute to work. I fell in love with the sound. The quality is really bad but I can hear the notes and have now decided that flutes are cool as shit. I am going to give making a flute a second go. I love how dead honest and critical you were. Now I have a much more disciplined and detail oriented mindset towards the next project. Thank you for the inspiration.

    wow, the tone between the mid-level and the cheap dizi is so different. maybe not noticeable to beginners but those with a few years of musical experience will definitely notice. it also seems like techniques such as flutter and double-tongueing wouldn’t be produced as clearly on the cheap one. super helpful video!

    I just got mine from Hong Kong China and I think the blow hole is drilled off center a bit. it's hand carved, and I got it from family over seas. the little one works great, but the full size one makes noise but not unless you hold it with both hands and at an angle.
    the small one was 95¢ and the full size one was $11.95

    You should put tape or membrane on all three in stead of one tape and two membrane when comparing.

    I think you must warm up your mid-level flute membrane first.. So it could sounds good. How you apply the membrane also affect the sounds of the flute

    Actually from the two D key flute, the cheaper one has higher sound and sounds better tuned than the mid class D key flute.

    Question:
    Used to play a clarinet. Now, been thinking for a while to learn play this flute. Is it going to be a little easier to learn the lips position for this flute?

    • @Chiinnature
      @Chiinnature  6 років тому +24

      nope, clarinet is much more "brain free" because you really just blow into it (I am a clarinet and sax player too) and the flute requires a more indirect way of blowing, you have to "sharpen" your airflow to one point to make it sound, it's different but it won't be hard to learn for sure

    Thank you for demonstrating the different tones of the flutes! If I may ask a question: is dizi easy for a Western flute player? I have been playing the Western flute for almost a decade, but I am not sure where to start in terms of the dizi.

      I did a workshop recently and you can definitely adjust to it. It's similar to the difference to maybe a piccolo. I don't mean that it's the same kind of difference, but the difficulty level is about the same, so if your quick to adjust, you should be able to play well in about a week😁

    Whats the difference in price between the three? Is the mid range harder to play? So less buzz without the membrane it seems. I love the A key dizi but my hands are tiny so probably can’t cover the holes.

    Really doesn't seem a fair comparison with tape used on the first one. The tape will make a huge difference on sound quality and won't give you the lively and distinctive buzz behind the notes.

    When you ve spent 320€ on getting a medium-level guitar, then compared to it, 150€ isn't much to pay for a professional level Dizi instrument (Sound of Mountain). The way i view it, coming from some years of guitar playing. What are your thoughts on this view?

    • @blaskkaffe
      @blaskkaffe Рік тому

      I know I am bumping a 5 year old comment but here is my take on it:
      A mid range guitar would be equal to a set multiple keyed Dizi if you are going to be able to play together with other instruments and to be able to play songs in all keys without being too limited.
      I just started out but as far as I have researched you will most likely need more than one if you are going to be playing a lot, but a single one can be perfect for learning to play the instrument but can be limiting.
      Buying a $150 Dizi is a perfectly reasonable thing to do if you are serious about playing, but you will most likely need a couple of more in different keys.
      I still struggle to get sound so take my view with a grain of salt.

    I've noticed I can actually tape the blow hole and blow into the membrane hole and get a lot lower tone ? Is the dizi ever used this way ?

      @Chiinnature  8 років тому +3

      +Stiven Vukcaj buy a dizi, around 20 bucks range on amazon maybe, and make sure you buy from sellers that are music stores. Then use a piece of transparent tape (thin tape) to tape up the membrane hole, and start learning how to play a sound. When you can do it, everything will come along as you goof around! :) I suggest a C or D key as a start

      maybe you should study music before you buy it because you won't understand anything. or get a teacher. recommend to try piano first or something.
      B C and D are notes, and for bamboo flutes they are keys. It mean the range of notes it can play. The tape is a special membrane that makes the sound as beautiful as it is, without it it sounds dull, like you can clearly hear in the video.
      If you have no music experience please listen to him and by the cheapest one and play around with it. Don't buy some expensive beautiful instrument if you don't know about music..
