This conviced me. I watched another guy on here who broke his quick by basicly abusing the knife. I was a little worried about my San Mai Master Tanto 12 as a self defense weapon, like say a guy swings a baseball bat at you or something. I know my Case Bowie is strong and now i know my Master Tanto is strong. Whats neat is it's like a small sword but only 14 ounces. It's awesome. I even prefer the hollow grind, i mean you talk about slicey sharp.
Yeah exactly. It looks amazing but when and how would someone be able to carry that thing in public. At least the XL voyagers and espadas can fit in a pocket. To carry that 12” magnum tanto I’d have to fit it through my belt. It’s too long to be carried for modern combat. Now if I was going to fight rebellious peasants or enemy samurai I would love to have that tanto in my belt above my tachi for sure, but I’m not able to walk around town with that in the current time.

Blade is not a machete, but was built for fighting. Definitely not my first choice for bushcrafting or hacking up firewood. The trailmaster would be more suitable for firewood duty, especially with a 3V blade...🤔
Hey Matt...just for my own edification... Are you trying to actually produce chips and remove wood when doing these or are you chopping straight in to check edge roll etc? Very difficult to see chip removal but I'm on a tablet. Great defensive knife...good video!
This test is more about what the chopping is doing to the knife itself. 1. Will the design hold of to the heavy shock of chopping? (The LTC did not, while the 4034 Kukri Plus did). 2. How are the different blade steel holding up under this kind of stress? (Edge retention, are there chips or rolls?, how easy is it to tough up/sharping once it’s not cutting paper? 3. Is the knife or design comfortable to use in my hand during heavy use?
The Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII especially in CPM 3V is a great knife, but not for bushcraft tasks, the best chopper from Cold Steel is in my opinion the Kukri knives especially the Gurkha Kukri Plus 3V, this knife is a real chopping beast.
I am deciding between this and the Warcraft (for a big tanto, I already have some "little" ones). One question- (sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it) Did the handle LOOSEN at all? After all the chopping, is there any "play" in the kraton (or "Kra X") handle? Thanks for the info 👍
Old video but good. I hike with mine in black bear country and use it as self defense from a bear (exceptionally unlkely) and from 2 legged foes (already brandished to scare away one of this kind of critter). It also works great as a light machete for brambles and low branches
Just so you're aware, that steel blade is much much harder than that wooden log lol the log is not what dulled your edge, take a look at the secure-ex sheath and any time your edge apex even touches it it immediately rounds the edge off entirely! All secure-ex cold steel sheaths do it...
Not true. I’m not a fan of the Secure-Ex sheaths by any means. I wish Cold Steel would provide premium leather sheaths or Kydex sheaths with their premium blades and leave the Secure-Ex for their “cost effective” knives like the SK-5 SRK or Kobun. I watched a UA-camr insert and extract a Cold Steel knife from its Secure-Ex sheath numerous times before any edge wear happened to the level that the knife needed to be sharpened. I’ve got multiple Cold Steel knives from the Magnum Tanto XII down to the little Counter Tac II and I’ve had similar results with my Secure-Ex sheaths. I’ve never sharpened one, inserted it into the sheath, then withdrew it and needed to resharpen the knife. It just doesn’t happen. If you constantly sheath and unsheath the knife. You will eventually cause it to wear. But the edges of the knives do not “immediately round off entirely” just from touching the sheath. The steel is a hell of a lot tougher than the GFN the sheath is made from. For the edge of the knife to take the kind of damage you’re saying it does, the sheath would have to be lined with diamond powder or sandpaper. So no. What you said isn’t true. Maybe 30 insertions and withdrawals might dull the edge. But one isn’t going to do it.
I will also add, you acknowledge that the steel is tougher than the wood he’s beating on. But you also state in the same comment that the steel isn’t as tough as the Secure-Ex sheath. So what you’re saying is he should have been chopping on that log with the sheath, not the knife, right? Because if the sheath is tougher than the steel, it must also be tougher than the log. Better sharpen up your Secure-Ex sheath next time you go bushcrafting. LOL!!
@@FriedPi-mc5yt hey smart guy, take your blade edge and run it up and down the side of your sheath with zero pressure like you're trying to slice the sheath and then take a close look at your edge it is the GLASS in the glass reinforced nylon that dulls your edge because glass is harder than steel

According to what you said though, just touching the sheath with the knife edge would immediately round the edge off. I've gotten brand new knives and they had a perfectly undamaged factory edge then the second that I slide it into and out of the garbage sheath that they came with ONE TIME thee edge is literally flat at the very apex, will no longer slice phonebook paper or shave hair off my arm I'm sorry but I am an edge snob and maybe my definition of sharp or dull is different than yours! But to me any damage at the apex is a dull edge period, I own over 700 knives right now and there is not a single one in my entire house at any time that you couldn't shave every little hair off your entire body with and whittle a single strand of hair.... So again, I implore you to take a nice freshly sharpened edge and just barely glide it along the side of your sheath and then attempt to slice phonebook paper with it afterwards lol because it won't!!!

The mere fact that this held up to this nonsense is a testimony to its build quality. Listen, if u want performance in the wilderness, there are better tools for the job. I 100 percent agree with you. But when an former CS employee, who is a friend of mine, give you a challenge to test a knife, you step up the the plate. But hey it is not a wilderness tool, but it stood up very well.

I have this one and Mtech one shaped like it. It actually chops ok..like smallish machete.

I don't understand. Never seen a .45 cal bullseye shooter demonstrate the efficacy of the same weapon on a qual hunt.
