PT here, much respect to you on your opinion and outlook. It’s good to hear balanced outlooks on the professions. I tell my patients if you’re seeing a chiropractor and seeing good results than why stop!

Thank you Matt. In both of our professions, there are professionals and there are money grabbers that aren't interested in helping others. I just want more professionals like us out there helping people.

Thank you for being honest, upfront and forthright. Too many chiropractors and physical therapists view it as a turf war and it shouldn't be.

This is the best video I have seen on this question and the only one that is in line with my experiences in the real world - my chiropractor manipulates the spine, applies pressure where required to extend my range of motion and then concludes the session with exercises I can do at home... - I should probably continue seeing him 🙂

The science shows us that physiotherapists and chiropractors can get similar results, the big distinction is that chiropractic carries with it a risk of death or injury, while physiotherapy does not carry this risk.

hahahahahaha. Please tell me how often chiropractors kill people more than physical therapists. Most chiropractors and physical therapists do the same techniques, even spinal manipulations.

Also PT s in many situations use release and manipulation , it is not exclusive for chiropractors

    • @DrJeffreyOGuinSaintLouis
      @DrJeffreyOGuinSaintLouis  3 роки тому +4

Correct. It's not exclusive. Traditionally, more chiropractors do adjustments. More PT's exercise and strengthen. However, times are changing and there is more and more overlap. This is the message I was trying to articulate.

DPT here and just want to say, extremely well said. I get this question all the times these days. I answer it the same way, I tell my patients that you should barely be able to tell the difference as the best in both profession should be evidence based and treating very similar. I believe good PT's are utilizing hands on techniques, HVLA and dry needling along with corrective exercise prescription and the good Chiros aren't selling snake oil and are utilizing corrective exercises, rehab along with manipulation, soft tissue work and working towards getting a patient independent of their services and not dependent as the case was for many many years. Great video sir!

PT’s are trained in manual manipulations but differing state regulations dictate what they can do in that state.
For this reason many PT’s will not pursue additional certifications in manual manipulations.

Insurance, there's the difference. It favors p/t's. I've had to stop my chiropractors, because I could no longer afford $40 each time x twice a week for 3 months. P/t $10 co pay. Big difference.

Insurance doesn't cover it because it no different than getting a palm reading. It's fake. Theses people aren't real physician, although they would lead you to believe that. The practice of chiropractic "medicine" was concocted by a man named DD Palmer who was a scam artists. He said these secrets were reveled to him is a seance by a ghost.

Seems amongst the professions, there is a wide range of how in depth the services of each can be. Some are doing bare minimum “do these exercises 3 X a week” or “5min adjustment” ; vs services like those seen on UA-cam with massages, adjustments, muscle scraping, stretching, ice, heat etc .

The placebo effect for chiropractic is nevsr zero. Orthopedic treatment should involve low enrtgu and high amplitude as physical therapists perform. The chiropractors do the opposite, high energy and low amplitude.
I am a family physician. I gross anatomy disections it was obvious the spine is so well designed that you are not going to manipulate the vertebrae with any kind of manipulation. There are dozens of muscles attached to the spine that can spasm causing back and power extremity pain. No one is realigning the spine.

I dont know in the states, Im from europe. But Im in college at physiotherapy and you learn much more than a osteopath for example, osteopathy is techniques of manipulations and chiropraxy is one of those techniques. Im physiotherapy you learn those manipulations and a lot more, you Will not just get patients with problems in joints or whathever. You Will learn about cardio and The respiratory part, you Will learn how to treat patients with tetraplegia or paraplegia. And much more but that depende of The school, Im in One of The best college of my contry and there you learn how to prepare atletes, you learn how to work with Kids and babys in pediatrics and Next year i will leram about do rehab on hidrotherapy. Só if you want more knowledge you should go to physiotherapy, trust me, in my college we have osteopathy and i study with people that had finish the course and now are begining physiotherapy and They say we know much more. They may know more about manipulations but we can intervain on só much more áreas if you compare. Now if you want The One who gets you a job easliy i dont know, it depends of your country, on mine you see a lot more physiotherapy than osteopathy, and chiropracter you dont see, its rare.

Big difference between the 2. PT is a an evidence based practice. Chiro is not. PT is a regulated medical profession, chiro is not. You study PT in a proper medical university for 5 years, it is a bachelor degree study with a PT board exam. You sudy chiropractic where? Exactly my point.

Most back pain heals itself in 4-8 weeks. Stretching and strength training are what's needed to fix most back pain issues over time. Physical therapy is active treatment where the person will make body changes with the help of a professional over time. Chiropractors Crack backs and think that will fix pain over the long term. It doesn't. Chiropractors are like a massage. Physical therapy helps you heal. You didn't explain the difference in education or belief at all. Physical therapists massage mussels and cracj backs because it feels good in the short term, not because it helps In the long-term. That's why they have you work on stretching and strength training. You don't seem to know the industry well. There is a big difference between active and passive therapy.

Thank you for being obsessed with my videos. I see that you have left comments on many of them. Unfortunately you missed the points of what this video was about. It was just trying to discuss that there shouldn't be a competition between chiropractors and physical therapists. I wanted people to understand that they should find a quality physician either way. Also, your comment about MOST back pain heals itself in 4-8 weeks is misleading. You're referring to acute back pain. Many people who come to youtube looking for answers have chronic and recurring back pain and want answers. Finally, in response to your "chiropractors crack backs and think that will fix pain over the long term". I NEVER said that. You obviously have beef with the chiropractic profession and are taking your issues out by leaving comments on my videos. I love the interaction though, so keep going and leave more comments on more of my videos.
